War

I know that the author has captured in the writing of the young American writer truer words about the battles and struggles. Death is enviable when 2 armies clash. Some will die and others will live to continue the fight. Those soldiers, seamen, airmen that die in battle or in uniform join the countless thousands who have gone before in the Field of Green as General Wheeler stated. In this case, those in uniform know intrinsically that although prepared and equipped, death in war is always possible but not to them. The description of being shot and seeing your buddies killed beside you is very different than the hype in training. That sound, that peace, that surreal atmosphere makes it all to real. Great story

This book follows the story of a woman (Marty) that becomes a reporter for a New York newspaper when it was almost unknown. She is shuns by here male counterparts. Marty gets a break finding information that the other paper reporters could not get and is hired. She follows the training of the
Lightning Cavalry and ultimately ends up going to Cuba to report on the invasion of Cube fighting the Spanish. This is a time when women were not looked at as anything other than homemakers. She ultimately gets rewarded as one of the best reporter of the war. There is plenty of action and suspense to keep your interest. The writing is very descriptive and almost makes you seem to be there.

I am a Huge fan of Robert Vaughan. Reading his books without hesitation. I am not a fan of war writings at all but figured I would give it a try. This book was extremely detailed and informative. I learned many things that I never did in school. That being said I can’t be totally positive about this book due to my own personal taste in literature. That is my own opinion. Nothing to fault the author for. At least I stepped outside the box and tried it. Just not for me. Those who like the war drama and tactics… it would be perfect for you.

Great history lesson

I learned more about the Spanish-American war from this story than all my years in school.
Add in some romance and include Teddy Roosevelt in a story. It's a win-win.
