If you’ve ever stared at your phone, waiting for a “totally into you” match to text back (only for them to vanish into the ether), then Ghosts, Texts, and Exes is your new best friend—and possibly your only date for the evening. This book does what every jaded swiper secretly it spills the tea on the outrageous world of online dating, all with a healthy dose of self-awareness and a few well-placed curse words. Think of it as a survival guide for anyone who’s ever cringed at a “sup?” opener or considered taking up professional ghost-hunting just to track down that vanishing Bumble match. The author manages to capture every nauseating, infuriating, and occasionally hilarious moment that comes with navigating dating apps, from the dreaded group-photo profile (who are you?!) to the overconfident text-gamer devouring Doritos while promising you’ll “never walk again.” Yet, beneath all the sarcasm and well-timed one-liners, there’s a surprisingly uplifting core yes, online dating can be a dumpster fire—but sometimes, out of that fire comes a real connection. And even if you don’t find your perfect match, you’ll discover something equally your own boundaries, your own confidence, and the reality that life is more than just dating. Family, friends, hobbies, and your passion for work can be just as fulfilling. In short, Ghosts, Texts, and Exes delivers the comedic catharsis you didn’t know you needed. Whether you’re a seasoned swiper or new to the madness, grab a glass of wine (or a stiff drink) and prepare to laugh, cringe, and maybe even tear up a little. Because if there’s one thing this book proves, it’s that while online dating is a circus, at least you can enjoy the show.
Boy, does my past self feel validated! I'm no longer in the online dating circus as I've found my person, but I've been there.. who hasn't, right?! That dating malarkey is hard!
It's absolutely hilarious. Yes, I found myself smirking, grinning, and full-on belly laughing my way through this book. Rocci definitely has a way with words.
Clearly, she has a super fun and rather vibrant personality, and I was here for the ride. Reading her dating 'Story times,' I felt like we were long-time friends, and I was getting the low down on her recent dating highs and lows. I loved how easy it was to connect to the book and the author.
Of course, this book is going to be a handy survival guide for the single readers out there. However, I think it's perfect for anyone, single, divorced, married, cohabiting, etc etc. Not only will you get the giggles, but you'll also get some actual sound advice that doesn't harm to be implemented in those already solid foundations you may have built.
What a cracking read. Thank you to Rocci for reaching out and offering me the opportunity to read this book.
First of all, a big thank you to the author, Rocci Jackson, for sending me a copy of her book! The cover art is just the coolest!
I really enjoyed reading this one. While I haven’t been on the apps or the general dating scene in over 8 years, the book was enjoyable and informative nonetheless. I know friends of mine who are on the apps and this is their daily struggle, too! I definitely would recommend this book to them specifically. It is such an easy, quick read that made me laugh, smile, and shake my head along the way.
Also, major props to Rocci for bearing her true soul and sharing all her own personal stories! I am sure it is super helpful to people going through the online dating scene to know they’re not alone.
This was a fun read! It reminded me of the days when I would read about relationships in cosmo! Although I’m a little bit older than probably the intended audience, it was enjoyable and at the same time worried me for my teenager. Dating nowadays sounds awful 🤣🤣🤣
There were a lot of fun stories and valid points throughout! I really enjoyed the author’s humor and she also used her own experiences throughout as well that gave it a feeling of sitting down and chatting with a friend!
So this isn't my typical book I read, but when the author reached out to me, the cover really caught my eye! I know dont judge a book by its cover, lol! I have been married for years, so when my husband saw the book, his response was, "You already trying to get rid of me?" LOL! Even before my husband, where I live, dating sites are just for the "deadbeats." I know that sounds mean, but it's the truth. So I never had interested in them. But this book was like getting advice from a best friend or a big sister. I definitely had to look up a few words that I hadn't heard before, but other than that, I really enjoyed reading this book, especially the side stories! I had a few good laughs along with it and learned a few new things. I would recommend this book to any single ladies or gentlemen.
single & ready to mingle?👀 are you taking the online dating route?👀 because if so- rocci is delivering you the ultimate guide on how to try and secure your match!🎣
whilst also discussing the mishaps that are faced along the way! and trust me.. we’ve alllll been there🫣🤣 including many personal stories that make you laugh and may also find some relatable!🫣🤣
i’m engaged to the most incredible human- so this guide is not needed BUT this was still a relatable, funny, witty, realistic read and even if you’re not in the online dating pool yet.. but think it might be for you in the future, save this book for when the time comes so you know what to expect and how to set up your profile!🤪
rocci reached out to me offering me the opportunity to read their book, which ofc i wouldn’t turn down as i feel it’s important to help our indie authors out as much as possible, when possible!🫶🏼
the personal touch and seeing rocci’s own personality come out on these pages was incredible!🤭 such a vibe!!!
Ghosts, Texts and Exes 📱 I was approached by the author on here and asked if I would read their book, so here we are. I will admit, the first half of this book I felt like I was not the target audience for this read and honestly had a bit of a hard time following along- I've never used online dating or dating apps and really didn't date much as a teenager. I met my husband at 18, moved in at 19 and we've been together for 11 years but it was interesting seeing what some people deal with and a lot of this applies to making friends which is how I took it for a large part. The last half of the book is more about once you've settled into a relationship and how to make it work- this section resonated with me and helped me talk to my husband about a few things I had been thinking about lately. I didn't always see eye to eye with the author or agree with all the advice they were giving and there are certainly some ideas I wouldn't personally entertain but that's just my preference. I liked the writing style a lot though, very casual, almost like having a conversation with the author themselves. The personal stories was a nice touch. Would definitely recommend if you're navigating the choppy seas of online dating and dating apps. This is my 3rd out of 10 books out of genre for my resolution this year!
Happily married for 15 years, one may wonder what I am doing reading GHOSTS,TEXTS and EXES.
Thanks to bookstagram, I had the joy of chatting with the author and she noted her book was available through Kindle Unlimited.
Happy to read something out of my norm, I had a good time reading this one. Many anecdotes are literally laugh out loud and even the advice works for "dating" your spouse.
Thank you to Rocci Jackson for the encouraged to read, even if you're an old married gal like myself, you will get a kick out of this.
Such a fun read! I’m married so I’m no longer in the dating world and I haven’t been for quite some time, but this was still an entertaining read! All the personal dating stories sprinkled throughout the book were hilarious and had me looking forward to the next one. Not only that, but it was like reading a book from a big sister giving you dating advice which I felt was really personable and fun. Definitely recommend!
First, a big thank you to the author Rocci Jackson for sending me an ARC! 🙌 I really enjoyed this one — it was such a fun and relatable read. If you’re out there navigating the dating world and want some inspiration (or tips!) to make your dating profile more fun, this is definitely the book for you! 💕📱
Absolutely laugh out loud hilarious. I loved it - especially the chapter on how to know which person you want to focus on. Great questions to ask yourself at any point in a relationship.
3.5 ⭐️ Thank you to Rocci Jackson for sending me a copy of this! Even though I am married, I met my husband on Tinder 🤣 Which makes this book both hilarious and way too relatable.
I picked this up partly because I went to high school with Rocci, but also because the topic genuinely intrigued me. Knowing her fun and vibrant personality back then, I had a feeling this would be an entertaining read... and I wasn’t wrong! Having navigated the wild circus of online dating myself, and eventually meeting my husband through Tinder in 2016, I could relate to so many of the stories and themes she touches on. You could say I found one of the “unicorns”, sorry, ladies!
What stood out to me was Rocci’s casual, conversational tone and sharp wit. The comparisons, humor, and vivid imagery made the whole thing feel both relatable and refreshing. Even if you've never dipped a toe into the online dating pool, there's still a lot here to enjoy.
If this is her debut, I’m really excited to see what comes next. Wishing you all the best with your writing journey, Rocci!
This is not my usual read but let me tell you: I loved it! It was so funny and lighthearted while also being brutally honest. There were times when I laughed out loud at Rocci’s personal stories and others where I felt such validation in my struggles😂 To everyone who has participated in online dating, I urge you to read this book and laugh at your stories!
I’ll be honest, nonfiction isn’t usually my thing. I’m a fiction girl through and through, and I rarely stray from my comfort zone. So if I hadn’t received this ARC, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up. But I’m glad I did.
Rocci Jackson delivers her stories with sharp humor, brutal honesty, and a level of relatability that made me feel like I was catching up with a friend over coffee. From cringe-worthy first dates to ghosting disasters, it’s the kind of chaos that makes you laugh, wince, and nod along—even if, like me, you’ve never touched a dating app in your life.
I’ve heard bits and pieces from friends about the world of swiping, breadcrumbing, and awkward DMs, but this book gave me a real glimpse into what it’s actually like. And honestly? I think I’m good just living through Rocci’s stories instead.
What really stood out was how she brought her mom’s experiences into the mix. That generational perspective added so much depth and heart. It showed that while the methods may change, the emotional rollercoaster of dating doesn’t.
Would I have reached for this book as a nonfiction reader? Maybe not. Would I recommend it to every friend of mine who does love nonfiction? Absolutely, enthusiastically, YES.
Thank you for trusting me with your ARC and for writing something so personal, funny, and surprisingly comforting. It was a wild ride, and I loved getting to experience it through your eyes.
Welcome to the world on online dating- are you ready for the circus 🤡 This book is a wild ride of navigating the dating apps.
This was such a fun read, only pages in and I was already laughing out loud (not at but with the author bc been there!). I thoroughly enjoyed the realness of the book, lets be honest most books about dating are typically boring how to guides. This not only acts as a how to guide but its witty with great tips and stories strewn throughout- you realize you are not alone in the dating circus 🎪
So whether you’ve already found your Shawn or you are still looking, I’m happy for you or I wish you luck- this is an honest and on point book about dating in the online world.
Thank you to the author, Rocci Jackson, for the opportunity to read this book. I received a gifted copy and am leaving my review voluntarily.
When the author reached out to me, I was immediately intrigued by the cover, premise and title. This is one that I didn't need for myself - I've been with my person since I was 18 - but I can now offer as a suggestion to my friends. I never experienced online dating because of this, but what a wild ride for the ones who have!
The author gives tips and tricks with wit and humor, as well as first hand accounts of her own dates. If you're looking for a guide book and some moral support on your journey to finding the one in the digital age, check this little book out!
Thank you to Rocci for a digital copy of the book in exchange for my honest review!
What a fun and relatable read! If you want to laugh and feel validated while getting valid dating tips this book is for you. I wish I had read it before going on a date with a murderer but hey better late than never right?
This was a highly entertaining take on online dating. As a single woman who's used online dating this gave me a lot of good laughs. Highly recommend if you are or ever have used dating apps. The storytimes were great! And so relatable.
This book takes you on a journey through the ups and downs of online dating, with success stories and major turndowns. It rummages through what you should do and what you shouldn't do, as well as, all of the red flags and green flags that you should look out for. This book is an amazing journey through the world of online dating, it captures everything from "What should my profile be?" and "Should I be interested or not?"
Jackson incorporates just the right amount of humor and informational context. When you're reading this book, it's as if you're talking to a friend about the good and bad of dating. There is a mixture of information and stories from personal experience. As she tells you just what to do, she'll also give you an example and a wild story of her own, that gives you a sneak peak into what she is talking about!
This book is perfect for those participating in online dating, but also for those who are single, married, or currently dating someone, that either just needs a good laugh or some actual advice. Believe me she has a lot of advice to give!
This book made me feel seen, because I am a single woman and have tried multiple dating apps, I can relate to some of the things that Jackson has to say!
I definitely recommend this book to everyone that is trying to find love, whether through dating apps or in person. This book has the perfect step by step to help you figure out what exactly you should do, and more importantly, what you shouldn't do.
This book will give you a lot to think about, as well as, a lot of laugh out loud moments. If you are going to get into this book, grab a drink and maybe a snack, because you'll definitely need it!
This was a great laugh from the first page until the last. I had such a fun time reading this book and was just what I needed. Full of dating stories and advice on how to date in the modern online world. Some of these stories were down right hilarious, and the advice is pretty sound and gives options to those who are still in the dating pull. If you need just a quick, fun read, then this book would be perfect for you. ☺️
I went into this audiobook blindly, so when I received a copy of it, I didn't realize it was a non-fiction. Overall, there is good humor, and I was chuckling a few times. I'm glad I never had to experience online dating, and because of that, it was hard to relate to it.
As a wedding planner most of my couples have met online. Though I’m not currently in the online dating world it fascinates me to see the ins and outs of how they met and how online dating is these days
I Love the real life “Story time” experiences… I couldn’t even imagine stepping into the dating world at this phase of my life. I give everyone who is doing a huge high five. You are awesome!
Funny and quick witted. Highly recommend for those in the online dating world and want a little laugh but also taking in some advice!
I have never considered myself more thankful to have avoided the circus better known as online dating! Rocci tells hysterical stories of her own experiences online dating and provides great tips and tricks of how to navigate the chaos of dating apps and what to do after you match. You will be giggling non-stop while reading this and maybe even learn a tip or two that you can apply to your current relationship!
Ghosts, Texts, and Exes by Rocci Jackson is an outstanding, gut-punching look at the world of internet dating. This book casts lights on the insanity and confusion of today's dating world, served with a side of laughter and a pinch of vulnerability. Jackson's work is a hilarious gold, brimming with sharp brilliance and unabashed honesty. I was carried into a frenzy of honest, emotional moments that made me say, "This is so me." . Aside from the laugh-out-loud moments, what truly distinguishes this book is how it addresses the true heart of dating: our own self. Rocci Jackson doesn't only mock the calamities of online dating; she also examines the aspects of ourselves that contribute to these train wrecks. There's something tremendously refreshing about the way she combines her biting wit with self-reflection, making this book as much an experience of personal development as it is a hilarious take on terrible dates and ghosting. It's the perfect blend of wild honesty and naked vulnerability, inviting you to chuckle at the absurdity of it all while at the same time pausing to think about it. . But, beyond the honestly sharp, beautifully funny stories, the Author informs us that, while internet dating is a circus in and of itself, it also offers us with an honest chance for self-discovery. You might leave this book grinning at the most cringe-worthy scenarios, but you'll also realize that the sincere victory in dating is getting to know and respect your own value. The pop culture references are entertaining, and the line about profile images being "the stage where the biggest lies are told" is pure comedy genius, but her message is tender: life is more than dating. Our ties with family, friends, and oneself are equally valuable. . Rocci Jackson has written a truly great book here—one that entertains and touches the heart. Whether you're in a relationship, married, or navigating the wild world of dating apps, Ghosts, Texts, and Exes will make you laugh until your sides hurt while also making you think deeply about your own experiences. It's an ocean of emotions and humor, varying from amusing to melancholy to very cathartic. And, while it may provide you with a new perspective on your previous dating experiences, it also gently reminds you that we all deserve to love ourselves fully, regardless of whether we find that perfect match in the end.
Reading Rocci Jackson's Ghosts, Texts, and Exes was an eye-opener for me. As a 20-year-old lady learning to be a judge, I had never used an online dating app or dated anyone before, so I had no idea what to anticipate. I've heard a lot of people talk about their experiences with online dating, but this book provided me a completely different viewpoint. It's incredible to think about how much I learned simply from reading this! I had no idea how confusing and crazy the internet dating industry could be. . What truly struck me was how real everything felt. Jackson speaks freely about ghosting, awful openers, and cringe-worthy profile photographs, but she also admits to her own role in all of this. It's more than just pointing fingers at terrible dates or texters; there's a lot of self-reflection. And for me, even though I'm not currently dating, this was an important lesson in accountability. Sometimes the way we present ourselves or connect with others online can be just as important in dating success—or failure—as the other person. It's taught me that knowing who you are, creating boundaries, and recognizing your worth are the most crucial lessons in any relationship, romantic or otherwise. . I also found myself giggling and cringing a lot throughout the book because I could completely connect to the situations Jackson described—despite the fact that I'd never used a dating app. Her ability to capture these goofy, embarrassing moments in such a hilarious yet supportive way reminded me of the importance of having a sense of humor in life, especially when things don't go as planned. It made me more conscious of how we all have moments when we put on a front or misrepresent ourselves, whether in dating or in everyday relationships. . To be honest, Ghosts, Texts, and Exes has been more than just a hilarious book for me; it served as a subtle yet significant guide. While I may not be swiping on any apps anytime soon, this book helped me gain a better knowledge of human behavior, relationships, and even how we interact in today's world. These skills will undoubtedly serve me well in my future job, as I learn to judge circumstances, relationships, and people with a deeper knowledge and a sense of humor.
My first Rocci Jackson read and I was giggling like a fool! 4.5 star read for me. My husband and I met on a dating app and we love to laugh over our completely different experiences. Reading this book brought me back to a time where everyone I knew was giving me advice on how to navigate dating apps, yet none of them had ever even been on a dating app and had met their partners organically so tbh their advice was annoying AF. This book brought back the online dating PTSD of "what's up" -instead of actually attempting to get to know me. And "send pics" -as if the pics I already posted on my bio weren't already the best pics I have. And my personal fav bio description: "Just ask" -okay so you're already showing me that you're willing to put in zero effort and expecting me to pull the info out of you. My only cons to this book were the few slightly judgmental tones the author had towards some potential dating app-ers appearances: someone who "wears a hat in every pic because he's covering up a bald spot" -everyone needs a balding king or queen in their life. Or someone who is into "wearing a snake as a necklace" -I LOVE someone who has the capability to nurture small odd creatures. And someone who "wears sunglasses because they have tiny little dot eyes or eyes so wildly cross eyed you're not sure if they're looking at you or at a squirrel across the street"...ok something no one can control and that's what dating apps are for: everyone! This dating app guide book should be for everyone too! Even the "bearded lady" (shoutout to all my PCOS girlies) *eye roll* because we aren't allowed to use any emojis according to this book *laughing face* Overall, I loved this read and wish it was around while I was navigating the world of dating apps <3
While the methods of dating may change with each generation, the emotional rollercoaster of dating remains the same. Rocci Jackson has written the ultimate guide to the world of online dating/apps and then what to do when you meet someone worth dating. The author bravely shares her own personal stories and mishaps while also giving plenty of helpful advice. The first half of the book is about finding someone and the second half dives into how to help your relationship succeed.
Review: All the single ladies…. This book is written in a conversational tone and the author’s wit and vibrant personality shines through. This is like grabbing a cup of coffee with your bestie the morning after a date and hearing all about last night’s adventures. The author is brutally honest and includes her own firsthand dating experiences. This reader was laughing aloud through much of the book. Her cultural references to movies, songs, artists and more are entertaining, and she is not wrong! This is the perfect survival guide for singles diving into the online/app dating world. The author’s advice is useful and reads as if it was from a best friend or big sister. A quick, lighthearted and easy read perfect for anyone dating or someone looking to “date” their partner.
Thank you to Rocci Jackson, the author, for sending me a copy of this book. All opinions are my own. Pick up a copy at your local independent bookseller or library.
Ghosts, Texts, and Exes is the kind of book you'll want to give to your friends, sisters, and mother—or read aloud with a glass of wine and laugh until your cheeks hurt. It's deliciously insane and significantly relatable, with a sharp sense of humor that will keep you thinking about the stories long after you've finished the book. This book is about life, love, and finding humor in the midst of chaos. You'll leave feeling empowered and perhaps even happy that you avoided the stresses of internet dating in favor of something more grounded. . There's a deeper message wrapped among the jokes: recognizing your worth is the true reward in the dating scene. Yes, internet dating can be a circus, but if you can laugh at the craziness while still finding calm within yourself, you've succeeded. Jackson's writing is compelling and addicting, and while it will have you laughing nonstop, it will also make you think about your own relationships and self-esteem. I enjoyed how she could turn even the most cringe-worthy circumstances into humorous brilliance, all while promoting the value of boundaries, self-love, and understanding that life is so much more than a dating app profile. . This was the book I didn't know I needed but felt extremely happy to have read it, this was my first non-fiction of 2025 and it surely won't be my last, Rocci Jackson is such a fascinating writer!
Ghosts, Texts, and Exes is a witty and insightful look into the modern dating world specifically online dating and it really doesn’t hold back. Rocci Jackson delivers honest advice, real red flags, and personal stories that make you feel seen, especially if you've been through the dating trenches yourself.
I genuinely laughed multiple times while reading, and I loved the inclusion of personal experiences that remind readers they’re not alone in their dating struggles. Rocci’s voice is casual, authentic, and feels like a friend walking you through every stage from profile setup to spotting toxic patterns.
The reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because there were a few perspectives I personally didn’t align with, but that could be due to where I am in life. I’ve found my person and I’m no longer navigating the dating app scene. Still, I think this is the perfect guide for anyone stepping into (or back into) digital dating. Who knows you might realize you’re doing it all wrong, and this book will definitely help you get on the right track.
Whether you're new to dating apps or trying to make sense of the chaos, this book is packed with humor, heart, and helpful advice. A great, relatable read for the modern dater!
Ghosts, Texts, and Exes by Rocci Jackson was not what I was expecting, but in such a good way. While I've never used a dating app or done any kind of online dating myself, I know plenty of people who have, and I think they would absolutely get a kick out of this book.
It really puts online dating and dating apps into perspective, whether you're trying to find "the one" or just make a fun connection. Jackson includes some hilarious dating fails and funny metaphors that had me laughing throughout the entire read. The author is so inspirational, too. The amount of things she's experienced and all the jobs she's worked—I'd lose my head!
This book is full of dos and don'ts and expands on the different types of people you can meet and the stories you'll have for a lifetime. If you're looking for a fun, comedic read, and you've experienced or are currently going through the world of online dating, this book is perfect for you.
As a bonus, this was my first ever autographed book, and it came with some cool gadgets like a keychain and stickers! Thank you so much for sending me a copy and I look forward to your future books that you have mentioned in creating in this book
