“She Looks Like Fun” by Constantinos Koumontzis is an intense and gripping read. The story revolves around Ann Bonny, a schoolteacher in Chicago who harbors a shocking double life—one her colleagues know nothing about.

The novel opens with Ann hurrying home after school. She has a chilling reason for her rush: Mr. Walter’s body lies in her bathtub, and if she doesn’t act quickly, the neighbors will soon notice the foul odor. Ann has stolen chemicals from the school lab, intending to rid the world of men like Mr. Walter. She uses them to dissolve his body, leaving it to decay while she tries to maintain a sense of normalcy.

But things don’t go unnoticed. Her neighbors, Kate and Roger, complain about the strange smell, adding to the mounting tension. As the story unfolds, readers are left wondering—will Ann’s carefully constructed life as a teacher collide with her darker reality as a call girl?

Fans of psychological thrillers will find plenty to enjoy here. The book’s title is fitting, the cover design is appealing, and the story’s relentless psychological tension keeps the pages turning. With its unexpected twists and shocking turns, “She Looks Like Fun” will hold readers captive until the very last page.

The Review

This was a compelling, gripping psychological thriller. The suspense and drama of the narrative create a sense of tension from the get, allowing readers to feel like they are hanging over the edge of a rooftop, their heart in their lungs, with every twist and turn in Ann’s story. The vivid imagery in the author’s writing style and the haunting atmosphere the storyline brought to life were very cinematic, keeping the reader engaged with this cast of characters throughout the narrative.

The powerful, driven character arcs and the novel's dynamic themes really brought the whole thing together. Ann is a complex character, often balancing her work and social life to maintain her cover, with her nightlife activities a constant struggle. In one breath, she can be completely dumbfounded by the idea of a “happy hour” hang while easily able to plan out a gruesome crime. The concept of hidden secrets and of not knowing a person or their motives fully, while also exploring morality and justice in a society that often overlooks those who need them most, made this thriller stand out.

The Verdict

A haunting and chilling blend of horror, thriller, and suspense that evokes a tone similar to Breaking Bad, Dexter, and Killing Eve, author Constantinos Koumontzis’s “She Looks Like Fun” is a must-read psychological thriller for the fall season. The twists and turns this story takes and the cliffhanger finale are perfectly set up thanks to strong characters and complex narratives and themes that challenge the reader’s perspective several times throughout the novel.

I found myself in a very uncomfortable space. It challenged me to re-think my true feelings about situations and people that I was usually self-aware and judgemental. Revenge and murder never felt so honorable. His character development is unparalleled. I look forward to the sequel or better yet a series on the screen.

1.5 I had a hard time with this book but I finished it. It’s a lot like the mind fuck series from what I remember just with less smut. Not my style but if the author does a different style book I might be interested.
