Filthy Fix

Rate this book
I’m a dirty mechanic who’s all jokes—but she makes me want to be more.

When Ellie walked into McCafferty Customs looking to fix up a vintage motorcycle, I knew I’d do anything to help.

Turns out she needs to sell her ex-husband’s bike in order to open a taqueria.

Enough said. I’ll give her half-off the repairs in exchange for a daily delivery of homemade Mexican food—my absolute favorite.

Seems like life handed this sweet divorcée some lemons, and she wants to make margaritas—despite a jaded heart and layers of self-doubt.

I’m proud to do my part in bringing more diverse cuisine to Montana, but honestly, it’s the late nights and shared laughter that have me hooked on this woman.

She's even got me learning Spanish.

Still, she doesn't need a goofball like me trying to convince her to trust again when she's been hurt so badly.

She’s daring me to grow up, put down roots, and prove that good things can happen to the class clown.

But am I brave enough to risk my heart?

Filthy Fix is a short, steamy, instalove romance where a young motorcycle mechanic convinces a fiercely independent divorcée that tacos and trust might just be the perfect recipe for a second chance at love.

Whether it's romantic midnight rides under the stars, steamy kisses against chrome and steel, or searing touches amidst the grease and gears, the rough and rugged mechanics of McCafferty Customs are ready to rev your engines and take you on the ride of a lifetime.

Filthy Fix is Book 3 of the Deepwood Mountain: McCafferty Mechanics series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, reverse age-gap, curvy divorcee gets her hunky mechanic romance. Ellie is a 38 year old sassy, feisty, and curvy Mexican divorcee who loves to cook. She longs to open up her own taqueria. Kyle is a 28 year old hunky, charmimg, and flirty bike mechanic. When Ellie shows up with her ex's bike, she is looking to fix it up and sell it to start her business. Kyle is immediately taken with the Latina beauty and makes her a deal to do the work cheaper for dinner. She agrees. OMG... these two!!! 🫠🥰😍. I am totally in love with Kyle. This might be my favorite Lexi book yet. I loved the flirty banter. Watching Kyle with his niece and nephew caused my ovaries to explode. Their chemistry was pure panty-melting fire, and the ending was so happy. I loved everything about this one so much!!!!!.

A Sweet Romance

This is an age gap, second chance romance that melted my heart. Ellie found just the right man for the job. Kyle made a deal with Ellie…he would fix her bike but she had to bring him meals for two weeks.

Kyle was all about making Ellie’s dreams come true.

Ellie got her ex's motorcycle in the divorce. All she could think about was selling it to fund her dream of opening a Mexican restaurant. But the bike currently wasn't running, so she brought it to McCafferty Customs to see about getting it fixed up. Turns out, it will cost more than she wants to spend. But when the mechanic finds out why she needs the money, he makes her an offer.
Kyle loves Mexican food, and there really isn't a good Mexican restaurant around Deepwood Mountain. So when Ellie comes in with her ex's bike that she's looking to fix up and sell, he offers her a discount on the work if she'll make him dinner for a couple of weeks. She's sceptical, but agrees. Win-win.
Ellie's ex had always told her that her dream was stupid, that she would never be capable of opening a restaurant. But as soon as he tasted her food, Kyle knew she could do it. The food was delicious. He would do anything he could to help her realize her dream. He even suggested a food truck, which would be a great way to start out.
But it was more than just the food. As she spent the evenings feeding him and passing him tools as he worked on the bike, Kyle knew it was her, too. Ellie's ex had done such a number on her self esteem. How could Kyle convince her that she was worth so much more than her ex told her? That she was worth so much more to him?
This was a good story. Kyle was so supportive of Ellie, even though she still doubted herself.
We get to catch up with the McCafferty Customs family, who also help Ellie when her ex comes threatening her. It's good to see her gaining her confidence after having been put down for so long.
I'm looking forward to the next one!

He knows how to use his tools and she can definitely cook

Filthy Fix is the third book in the Deepwood Mountain: McCafferty Mechanics series. I am so enjoying this series as each book is a delicious and captivating bite that is more than satisfying. The story is about Ellie, a recently divorced thirty-eight year old woman who arrives at McCafferty Customs towing a vintage motorcycle that she want to be rebuilt. She got the bike in the divorce settlement and has plans to sell it so she can use the money to open her dream....a taqueria. Kyle is twenty-eight years old and is one of the mechanics at the shop. He is the one who looks over the motorcycle and then talks with Ellie about what she wants to do. As it would cost to much he makes a deal with her after finding out about her dream, as he loves Mexican food. If she brings him dinner each night the next two weeks he will work on the bike and cut the cost in half. Ellie agrees but she is not sure about what to expect, and she is right to. Ellie is an excellent cook and over the next two weeks she starts to get to know Kyle and by extension his sister and her two kids, as they stop by the shop to see Uncle Kyle. Kyle knows what he wants and he also knows how to help Ellie make her dream come true, and make it very successful. Plus he knows how to use his tools and Ellie is more than satisfied with his service.

Who knew that his love of Mexican food could bring him so much more?

Eloísa, or Ellie, as she's more commonly called, had been recommended to take her 1972 Harley Sportster to McCafferty Customs shop in Deepwood Mountain to be restored. It was the only asset she received from her divorce from Ben. It's a classic but is in terrible condition. She hopes to get it restored before selling it for enough money to open her taqueria restaurant, her childhood dream.

Her marriage to Ben only lasted about two years. But in that time, he had eaten away at her self-esteem until her childhood dream of opening a taco restaurant had all but disappeared. He'd also broken the bond between her and Letty, her only sister. Now she's determined to follow her dream. What better way to finance it than with the profit from Ben's bike?

Kyle owns the shop. He's taken with not only the beautiful woman standing before him but also with the bike. Unfortunately, it will be too expensive to fix for only a net profit of $2,000 to $3,000 when it's sold.

He'd noticed her checking him out, and he loves Mexican food, so he proposes a barter. He'll do the work for half price if she'll fix him dinner every night for the next two weeks. It's a deal she can't refuse!

He is a mechanic at McCafferty Customs, if you have been reading the series you have already been introduced to him and his fun loving personality. If you haven't each story still holds as a stand alone. He is working in the shop when she shows up with a rusty chopper on a trailer looking for for some help to get it road ready so she can sell it. She got it in the divorce from her jerk of an ex and she wants to sell it and open the taqueria of her dreams. When he hears the word tacos come out of the beauty's mouth he offers to work in trade for dinners. She was burned in a bad relationship, and is reluctant to start anything new, especially if it will derail her plans for building her own dream, but as she gets to know him she starts to see he is nothing like her ex, and might be her biggest cheerleader. This is a sweet story. It is instalove for him, when he falls first and hard. He just has to convince her to take a chance because he knows what he wants. This is a quick read, but still full of sweetness and spice. Oh they have chemistry, and when she lets down her defenses, things get hot real quick. A big beefy hunk with killer biceps who keeps showing up and letting you know that you rock his world...a perfect book boyfriend.

Filthy Fix is everything I love in a quick, feel-good romance: a flirty, lovable hero with hidden depth, a bright, determined heroine chasing her dreams, and enough steamy chemistry to fog up a garage window.

Kyle is the kind of “dirty mechanic” who knows his way around engines and emotions. On the surface, he's all jokes and easy charm, but when Ellie needs help with her vintage bike—and a fresh start—he shows a whole other side of himself. I loved how supportive, sweet, and subtly vulnerable he was beneath the grease-stained grin.

Ellie is an inspiring heroine: strong, self-reliant, and ready to turn heartbreak into something beautiful (and delicious—hello, tacos!). Her journey toward trusting again felt authentic, and her chemistry with Kyle is off the charts. Watching them bond over late-night shop talk and spicy food was heartwarming and addictive.
This one hit the spot—hot, heartfelt, and full of character. Filthy Fix proves that the best love stories are sometimes built from scratch, with just the right mix of laughter, trust, and tacos. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves steamy, swoony romances full of second chances!

This is SUCH a good series. The Mechanic shop has its pulse on the read of the month!! It gets addicting fast!!

We are finally getting to Kyle's story. Don't worry this can be totally read as a standalone. I, for one, have been reading the entire series. Kyle has always been the mouthy, funny, flirty mechanic never afraid to speak up, even if it gets wrenches thrown his way.

He didn't exactly see Ellie coming, but he isn't wasting a moment. As much of a joker he is, he sees the gems some don't appreciate. He didn't think twice when Ellie needed help to find a way to do just that, and if that meant getting his favorite thing to indulge in...food.....then win win.

Kyle's humor and easy going ways to a joy to read as he gets to know Ellie. She can see his skill, his passion, love for family and chosen family. and the heart of this big biker mechanic.

I loved every bit of this story. you can't help but fall in love with both of them, and the journey as they fall in love. The little ways he shows how he treats Ellie, his belief in her, and the future he wants.

Every book I saw this is the best, but Lexi always managed to make you fall in love with ALL of them!!.

This book had me by the stomach when the Mexican dishes were described.
Seriously, though, I loved how Ellie was determined to follow her dreams and start her own Taqueria, using the skills she learned from her beloved grandmother in Mexico. Her self esteem had taken a beating from her ex, but she persevered. What I liked about Kyle was his unwavering support of Ellie. Plus he was hotter than hades. The eye candy never hurts.
I’m not normally a huge fan of Age Gap romances- in either direction- but the age gap in this book wasn’t something for me to ignore like I usually do, but to embrace, because of Kyle’s attitude and the positive plans for their future.
The story was fun, steamy, and absolutely delicious.

Kyle is the charmer and joker of the group at McCaffery Customs, but even he is a softie inside. That was obvious when it came to interacting with his sister and her kids (his nephew and niece). Still, he's a man who knows what he likes, and when he sees it he goes after it full throttle. I had to hand it to Ellie, she was one tough cookie. First for putting up with and surviving the stiff she did with her now ex-husband, but also scraping together a way to make her dream a reality despite the odds. She never expected to get Kyle's support, or that having it would become so important not only to her emotionally but to the success of her business. This story is a bit of a slow-burn as she has been beaten down by life and it takes time to rebuild her self-confidence and willingness/ability to trust. It helps that Kyle is nothing like her ex (who we get the wonderful displeasure of meeting). Just how long will she be able to keep him at arms length when his mere presence sets her on fire?

4.25 stars. Ellie, the female lead, has dreams of opening a taqueria but needs funding. Deciding to sell the asset of her ex’s motorcycle that is hers as part of her divorce settlement, she takes it to a recommended restorer.

Kyle, the male mechanic lead, is immediately attracted to Ellie and also her bike. Hearing her situation, he offers to work for half price if she’ll keep him fed, since he adores Mexican food. Ellie agrees.

But as they spend dinner together each night, feelings Ellie never wanted or expected start to arise. Can Kyle convince her he’s sincere, and worth taking a risk on?

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, contemporary reverse age gap romance. I enjoyed Ellie’s determination to succeed at her dreams. I enjoyed Kyle’s gentle pursuit. I enjoyed the building intimacy. I enjoyed integrated and supportive secondary characters.

“His gaze drops to my lips. “So I’ve got a weakness for complicated women and good queso.”

Time for another ride with McCafferty Customs!! Well this isn’t fair - mixing my favorite food with romance 💘 but I’m not complaining 😁. Ellie trying to open her own taqueria and heal from her divorce. Kyle is magic with motorcycles and offers a price reduction if she provides her delicious food for two weeks. Plenty of steam, family time (❤️little Evan) and Spanish lessons! Kyle is such a perfect guy - he melted my heart with how supportive and caring he was. I beg Lexi Hayes to write another epilogue at least 5 years later 🙏🏻.

Ellie’s (h) ex left her with nothing but a busted Harley and a broken dream, but she’s determined to start over—her own taqueria, her own rules. When Ellie trades home-cooked Mexican dinners for a discounted bike repair, the last thing she expected is falling for Kyle (H), the younger, inked mechanic who sees her fire, not her baggage. But with every shared meal, every late-night laugh, and every lingering glance, Kyle chips away at her defenses, and things heat up. He doesn’t just want to fix the bike—he wants to prove she’s not too late, not too much, and definitely not done. A steamy, age gap, blue collar, small town romance, exploring starting over, finding strength after heartbreak, chasing your dreams, and falling for someone who sees you as you really are—mess and all.

Ellie did not get much from the end of her marriage except her husband's vintage motorcycle. She needs to get repaired so she can open her taqueria. When she walks in she catches the attention of a younger man, Kyle. He assigned to work on the project but Ellie does not have enough money to complete the work needed. He offers half off all the repairs for daily homemade Mexican food, his favorite cuisine.

She agrees and they get know each other over her daily visits. He determined to make her his but she is a little concerned with being ten years older than him.

I loved these two, he is just what she needed after the jerk of an ex she had.

Biker romance.
Ellie has just divorced her ex-husband and received an old motorcycle to restore as payment for her divorce. She decides to have it restored and sell it so she can open her Mexican restaurant. While taking the motorcycle to the garage, she meets a handsome mechanic, Kyle. It's love at first sight, even though she had promised herself she would take time for herself.
Kyle is a mechanic at a motorcycle repair shop. When he sees the beautiful Ellie in the garage, it's love at first sight. Ellie can't afford to pay for the repairs, so he offers her a deal that would allow her to see her every day.

Ellie aka Eloisa has a dream of owning her own taqueria which means to get her ex-husband's '72 Harley Sportster repaired and sold for a down-payment. It was part of the divorce settlement. Cost estimated as $3k;so she agreed to a deal of make her Mexican for dinner as part of the discount price with Kyle, the 'hot' mechanic. Kyle loves Mexican food. Follow the repair, food enjoyed and the flirting between the two of them. Kyle is 10 years younger than Ellie, but it doesn't matter to him. Will he be able to convince her? What other worry does she have? Will it be a deal breaker?.

Kyle definitely is the one who can fix Ellie's broken bike and broken heart. If she agrees on the best deal of his life - free Mexican food.
It was funny, flirty and very engaging short steamy read. And Ellie gets not only great man for herself but also sense of community and family of McCafferty Mechanics.
I love books of Deepwood Mountain: McCafferty Mechanics series, sweet and heart warm. Kyle is always protective, even from the smallest shadow of her past. Amazing instalove romance, great contribution to the series.

McCafferty Mechanics make custom motorcycles in Deepwood Mountain. This is the third book in a hot and steamy series, but doesn't have to be read in sequence.

Ellie is newly divorced, and, as part of the settlement, received a motorcycle that needs work. She wants it fixed up so she can get the most money possible for it so she can open her dream restaurant.
Kyle is willing to barter with Ellie to get the motorcycle fixed, and hopefully win her heart as well.

Ellie has arrived in Deepwood to get the best company to fix up the rusting bike that she got in the divorce settlement.
Then she can sell it on and move on to the next chapter of her life and start her business.
Everything changes when she meets Kyle the young burly guy who’s going to do the work and restore the bike.

A great third instalment in the series I can wait for the next book and who is the focus of that one.

I am enjoying the McCraffery Mechanics so much; this book is a fantastic addition. Ellie wants to open a Mexican restaurant, and to raise money, she is planning to sell her ex-husband's Harley, which needs a lot of work. Kyle offers to do the repairs if she will cook for him for the next two weeks. I love this plot! Kyle is determined to win Ellie, and she is healing from all the hurts of her past. This was an engaging reverse age-gap romance that brought Ellie and Kyle together. She's starting over after a rough marriage and divorce. He's a mechanic and biker and is immediately smitten with her. He offers her a deal for working on her ex's bike and it lets him see her every day ;) She's sure she needs to move on but his gentle and persistent support shows her a new path to her dreams. I love how patient he was but that he put his heart on the line with his openly communicated desire for her. This got them both a wonderful HEA and I enjoyed the reading ride :D

Holy macaroni this was SOSOSOSOoooooooo GOOOOOOD!!!!!( good…not god🤨)

But seriously…take a hunky tatted mechanic and make him crazy for an independent, sexy, older, sassy, fierce woman and her culinary skills for Mexican food???? Gah!!!! Can I get one too??? (The tatted mechanic…not the woman…)

This was so sweet, and so sexy, and so heartwarming (the younger guy helping the woman who had been treated like crap by her crappy ex find her strength and trust in love again🥰). Easy to read and really well written🤗.

Loved this ❤️ 💖

It is such a sweet story of Ellie's second chance at love after her divorce.

It's hard not to love both Ellie and Kyle, they are just too cute. His possessiveness and determination not to let her previous bad experience, stop them from exploring their connection, just adds to the overall story.

Definitely 5 ⭐️ from me. A must read.

This was my first book by Lexi Hayes and I enjoyed it. I thought the writing was quite good and I liked how romantic Kyle was. He was also so supportive and protective of Ellie. There wasn’t a lot of depth to the story but that’s to be expected from a novella in this genre. And I thought the epilogue could have taken place a few more months later. But it was still a fun, sexy read. Recommended.

What a delightful book. Kyle and Ellie were wonderful characters. Kyle was such a riot and had such a big heart. Ellie was fierce and open to find a new path in her life. Their dialogue was so fun to follow and the side characters added a lot of entertainment as well. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book that I'm so glad I had a chance to read.

Beautiful definition of family
“Filthy Fix” by Lexi Hayes

-This heartwarming romance proves that appearances can be deceiving.
Kyle, the rugged mechanic, is tender, loyal, and irresistibly drawn to Ellie.
Their chemistry sizzles, but it’s the strong, loving portrayal of family that lingers.
A feel-good story wrapped in grit, charm, and emotional depth.
