Wild animals often travel to find food, shelter or a place to breed. But this is becoming more difficult and dangerous, as construction and land clearing are affecting their habitat.
Creature Corridors follows kangaroos, koalas, birds, fish, crabs, cassowaries and lizards through wildlife corridors that exist across forests, rivers and seas. These corridors provide paths and spaces for them to move around safely. Discover how we can share our world with animals in this delightful and engaging story.
Reading level varies from child to child, but we recommend this book for ages 5 to 9.
This lyrical, beautifully illustrated non-fiction picture book informs 4-99 year olds about the effect of human activity on wildlife safe pathways. The reader is taken on a journey through the wildlife habitats of seven Australian animals, that have been encroached upon by urbanisation, industrialisation and land clearing. We are shown what is being done to restore safe corridors for these animals to find food, shelter and breeding places. There is a lovely rhythm to the story, and young children will be reassured by the ‘safe path’ that concludes each scene. The lyrical language is enhanced by vibrant colours used in the illustrations. Although this story is about wildlife corridors in Australia it is relevant to all industrialised countries. It is a perfect way to start a conversation about looking after our wildlife. Creature Corridors will have an important place in public and school libraries. Backmatter provides more detailed information in child friendly language.
