Known as the NHL’s grumpiest player, it’s obvious that I’ve always made it a point not to get to know anyone outside of my family or my team. After losing my dad as a kid, I never wanted to put myself at risk of feeling that kind of loss ever again. And it’s been easy to go through life this way—closed off. At least… it always has been until I’m forced to volunteer at a youth hockey clinic.
When I see Cash Greene take the ice, I know right away that he’s different than most players his age. And when his mother, Freya, comes to pick him up at the end of the session, I find myself immediately charmed. And I know one thing for sure—that won’t be our last encounter. I’d make sure of that.
For a man who’s avoided getting to know people my entire life, I’m as shocked as anyone when, suddenly, I find myself going out of my way to be around not only Freya, but her three kids, too. And when her youngest, Aviana, is in dire need of a surgery that her mom can’t afford … I somehow convince Freya to marry me for my health insurance.
As my feelings grow deeper, what may have started off as just as marriage-of-convenience turns complicated fast. I just hope that Freya will let me love her like a true husband and stop pushing me away to keep herself living in the past.
Hannah Gray spends her days in vacationland, living in a small, quaint town on the coast of Maine. She is an avid reader of contemporary romance and is always in competition with herself to read more books every year.
During the day, she loves on her three perfect-to-her daughters and tries to be the best mom she can be. But once she tucks them in at night--okay, scratch that. Once they fall asleep next to her in her bed--because their bedrooms apparently have monsters in them--she dives into her own fantasy world, staying awake well into the late-night hours, typing away stories about her characters. As much as she loves being a wife and mom--and she certainly does love it--reading and writing are her outlet, giving her a place to travel far away while still physically being with her family.
She married her better half in 2013, and he's been putting up with her craziness every day since. As her anchor, he's her one constant in this insane, forever-changing world.
My fifth Hannah Gray book. It’s been literally 2-3 months since I touched a marriage of convenience or sports romance, which feels illegal — and while writing this, I just realized I haven’t read a single mom book since FEBRUARY… who even am I?? Immediately fixing that.

Wake Me Up promises grumpy NHL player × single mom × forced family bonding × MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE???Yes. Inject it in my veins.
I wanted to cry for the entirety of the first couple chapters. I wanted to cry at the end. Hannah Gray never fails to deliver.
The end of another HG era. Another journey full of roller coasters.
Freya & Tripp 🏒💕 NHL goalie Single mom of 3 & widow He’s grumpy except to her and her kids Marriage of convenience He calls her “wife” and “darlin” The kids. God the kids. All three. Loved them.
This man was OBSESSED.
“Running away again, darlin’?” he drawls into the cold night air. “You should know by now, I’ll just keep chasing you.”
I am entirely too sad for the end of this series but excited to see where next we go.
This is my favorite book in the series. Ans I loved all of them so that’s saying a lot.
Tripp and Freya were absolutely everything and I will never get over them. They will live in my head rent free forever because I love those so much💕
This is hands down one of my favorite marriage of convenience stories that I have ever read.
✨ Hockey Romance ✨ Single Mom ✨ Love after Loss ✨ Marriage of Convenience ✨ Grumpy Goalie
This story wrecked me. I’m talking full crying in the prologue and alternating between crying and swooning the entire book.
Freya is one of my favorite FMCs I’ve read in a while and I loved how strong and resilient this woman was. And she was such a good mom, I loved her so much.
And Tripp … I loved him from the moment we met him but this grumpy goalie was way more than meets the eye. I will always fall for a man that steps up for kids that aren’t theirs and Tripp fell just as hard for Freya as he did for her kids.
This story had so much heart and I loved how Tripp opened up for Freya and how she was able to find love again. I honestly just loved this story full stop.
And the spice…. Hannah never dissapoints with the spice and these two were no different. I was sweating 🥵🥵
Also we get a sneak peak at what comes next and I am DO HERE FOR IT! This books was everything and I loved every second of it .
It’s a surprise to exactly no one that I loved this book, but I will add to that by saying Wake Me Up is Hannah’s best writing in the series. The emotion behind the story of a widowed mother of three who is willing to do anything for her kids’ health and happiness and the quiet hockey goalie who falls hard for her and her children has all the emotional pull Hannah is known for, and it’s the perfect end for the New England Bay Sharks series.
I always love a single mom, but adding the widow aspect created a unique layer to Freya, who struggles to balance the desire to stay true to her first husband while falling for Tripp. My favorite part of the story by far is the way her kids are the ones who give her the strength to move on and find happiness in her life again. Tripp’s patience, understanding, and thoughtfulness all make him one of my favorite MMCs.
I adored Tripp, Freya, Cane, Cash, and Aviana from cover to cover, and when I say my excitement for what comes next can’t be contained…I’m truly surprised people the next state over didn’t hear my squeal.
Absolutely incredible. I don’t even know if I can put into words how much I loved this book. Tripp and Freya’s story is such a beautiful way to end an amazing series.
This is an emotional one. Love after loss always hits a little harder, but my goodness is this story everything I could have hoped for.
Tripp, oh Tripp. I am obsessed. I love him. I love him with my entire heart. He is literally perfect and you will not change my mind. Freya is a widowed mom of 3 kids, whose priority is her children and her children only. Tripp meets Freya and her children and he makes it his goal to do everything he can for them and hopefully be in Freya’s life one way or another.
This man is so patient, kind, loving, selfless beyond measure and has the dirtiest mouth. 🤭
Even though Freya is guarded and has walls up like no other- Tripp wants to do whatever he can to make her life easier, including marrying her before really even knowing her.
Watching their relationship unfold was truly wonderful. To see her fall in love and let someone in her heart again was the sweetest thing. The way he is with her kids… also swoon.
Honestly, I am so sad this series is over but this was such an amazing book to end with.
AND I am feral for what’s to come!! 🤭😍
What to expect: 🏒 Hockey romance ✨ Widowed FMC 🏒 He Falls First ✨ Single Mom 🏒 Marriage of Convenience ✨ Slow Burn
Thank you so much Hannah for the opportunity to read this as an ARC for my honest opinion and review!
This is the final book in the series, and it focuses on Tripp and Freya's journey. Freya is a devoted mother who’s been through a lot after losing her husband in an unexpected accident. She’s determined to raise her three kids and stay loyal to her late husband—until Tripp enters her life and changes everything. When her daughter needs surgery and Freya is short on money, Tripp offers a surprising solution: a marriage for health insurance. Freya insists it’s just business, but as they spend time together, she can’t help but fall for him.
Tripp is a sweet, grumpy hockey goalie who is instantly smitten with Freya. I loved how he quietly takes care of her. He knows she’s still grieving and respects her need for space, but he’s always there for her in the most thoughtful ways. His bond with Freya’s kids is so heartwarming; you can really tell how much he cares for them, and it’s wonderful to see how they start to warm up to him, too.
Freya is such a strong, independent woman who loves her children fiercely. Even though she’s still in mourning and finds it hard to let anyone in, Tripp gently helps her lower her guard. He shows her that it’s okay to open her heart again and that she deserves happiness and love.
This story truly tugged at my heartstrings, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Tripp and Freya share such sweet and passionate moments, and the scenes with the kids are just delightful. It was also lovely to see familiar faces from previous books in the series. This is a fantastic series, and I love how all the characters finally find their happy endings!
Ms. Hannah Gray!! To the front of the class!!! I have a BONE to pick with you!! Did I ask you to traumatize me like this?? To make me cry uncontrollably for hours until my lungs and head hurt??? No I did not...yet here we are 😩😩 WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME!!!! No but seriously...this is HANDS DOWN...my favorite book written by Hannah EVER!!! Freya and Tripp have officially become my TOP Hannah Gray couple. This is the 5th and FINAL book in the New England Bay Sharks series...I can't even believe I'm saying that...and I will tell you right now that it is the most emotional of them all...you will 10000000% be sobbing before the first chapter is done...and tears will continue to flow throughout.
This book revolves around our notoriously grump NHL Goalie, Tripp and the widowed single mom, Freya. Freya loses her husband tragically, leaving her to raise her 3 kids on her own...it's been years but it never gets easier....she lives her life for her kids and puts herself on the back burner, much like a lot of moms do. She's at a hockey clinic for her son when she catches the attention of one very tall and very grumpy professional hockey player...Tripp.
Tripp is LITERALLY known as the grumpiest player in the NHL...a title he wears proudly. At this hockey clinic he is very impressed and sees talent in a young boy....but what really stops him in his track is the beautiful blonde who happens to be the boys mom. The minute he sees her, he knows shes the one for him and will stop at nothing to make her his.
Is this a sports romance? Yes... Is this spicy and all about two people finding each other?? Also, yes... but it is so much more than that. Hannah touches on the topic of grief in a way that I don't think any other author has been able to do. She taps into that guilt that a lot of women and even men feel when their partner passes...especially when their partner is truly the love of their life. There is a feeling of guilt and almost betrayal that takes over as they start to feel like they are doing something wrong by moving on. Hannah handles it beautifully and shows that love comes when you least expect it...and loving someone after loss doesn't mean that you stop loving your previous partner...that love never dies...you just learn to love someone else in a different way while still keeping them in your heart.
This is a marriage of convenience and I loved it. Tripp sees that Freya needs help with her daughter...being a single mom with a child who is chronically ill and in desperate need of surgery isn't easy...and Tripp offers her a way to take the load off...he's willing to do anything to help Freya and her kids and marrying her to make sure she has the medical coverage she needs is just one of the many ways he does. Not to mention, it's his way of having her in his life...he's willing to accept any small part of her heart that she offers because he is THAT in love with her. He knows she is struggling with grief and at no point pushes her or forces her to choose him. In fact he encourages her and her children to keep her exes memory alive...he doesn't want to replace him...he just wants a chance to love them and be their for them.
Tripp has his own issues in the grief department and you see how being around Freyas kids and helping them through their own pain was almost healing for Tripp. In helping them he truly helped himself and learned to be a little less rough around the edges...even if it is only for Freya and the kiddos. 😉
Now...the spice?? Tripp is a man to be RECKONED with...he knows what Freya needs and he is prepared to give her everything and more. The mouth and HANDS on that man are DIABOLICAL and I mean that in the VERY best way. He makes sure she understands that he is there for her and is ready to give her what she needs...she just needs to trust him...and boy does she ever.
I am SO SAD that we are having to say goodbye to the Sharks, BUT, it couldn't have ended any better. Tripp and Freya were THE couple to end on...THE couple of the series...we get to see all of our favorites and even get some sneak peaks into the next series and whats in store. I loved everything about this book...I will definitely be doing a re-read with a physical copy to highlight ALL of my favorite Tripp and Freya moments....even the sweet kiddo moments. 🥰
Thank you so much to Hannah Gray for not only allowing me to ARC read this beautiful book, but for allowing me to be part of your team. You are truly amazing and I love you!!💙

Another book in the New England Bay Sharks series that I devoured! Freya and her kids have been through it with the loss of her husband/their father and she is just trying to stay afloat and do what’s best for her children. But when Tripp comes into their lives, everything just seems a little better…and even the kids notice. I love how patient and sweet he is, despite being known as a grumpy goalie. You can feel the tension between these two, but I love the vulnerable side as Freya learns to navigate through her grief and how Tripp is there for whatever she needs.

Thank you to Hannah Gray for letting me read/review an ARC.
I am so sad that we are at another end of an era from Hannah Gray but I am so excited to see what she has in store for her new series! She ended this series with a BANGER! I am so happy we ended it with Tripp! I was looking forward to his book and Hannah delivered!!👏
This story was literally everything!! I felt all of the emotions. I mean Hannah had me crying just from the prologue! Their story was so healing. Tripp will quietly love her even knowing she won’t be able to give him her full heart and he is okay with it. He just wants to make her smile! Tripp is everything! He is so patient and caring! The way he looks out for Freya’s children warms my heart 🥹 Tripp is so precious and I can’t get enough of him!
I am so sad to say goodbye to my bay shark babies but I cannot wait for Hannah’s new series!! I am so ready for second generation for the puck boys!!

Tropes: 🏒Hockey Romance 💍Marriage of Convenience 🏒Widowed FMC 💍Single Mom 🏒He Falls First 💍Slow Burn
My girl Hannah set the tone of this book with the PROLOGUE! Did I shed tears in the prologue? You bet your bottom dollar I did. Did I cry throughout this whole book? Yep, yes I did. Am I ashamed of that? Not one bit. This one is definitely an emotional read and if you have a trigger warning of death in regards to a spouse and a parent, then go into this one with caution. But it will be so worth it.
I will say, I am unfortunately a member of the dead parents club, which is a club I don't wish on anyone. But with that said, I related to this book on such a deep level. It brought up a lot of emotions for me and in a way was so therapeutic. The one thing that I believe Hannah does well is writing difficult topics. All of her books in this series touches on a difficult topic and they are so perfectly executed and this book being love after loss is no different.
This book follows Tripp, who is the goalie for the New England Bay Sharks and is known as the grumpiest player in the NHL. And Freya, she is a widower and a mom of three children. She takes it one day at a time and has vowed to stay loyal to her late husband, that is until she meets Tripp. The way that Freya had such a hard time opening herself up to a love that she deserves after her husbands tragic passing, is truly heartbreaking. But leave it up to Tripp to be so patient and relentless. Like this man doesn't want to take her husbands place in her and her children's lives but he simply wants to be a part of their lives and love them the way they deserve. And that right there is enough to make you melt.
I am so sad to see this series come to an end. Hannah, this one was truly special. I loved every single one of these books. You did a fabulous job at incorporating difficult subject matters. And the easter eggs for what is to come has me screaming!
You should most definitely read this book if you like: - Hockey Romance - Marriage of Convenience - Widowed FMC - Single Mom of 3 - Love After Loss - Emotional Read - Slow Burn - He Falls First and HARD - Close Proximity
* I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Hannah Gray on allowing me the pleasure to read Wake Me Up as an ARC in exchange of my honest thoughts, opinions and review.
God. Damn. It. Hannah. I refuse to admit how many times I cried during this one! I cried, I swooned, I kicked my feet and then of course I cried again. But oh my gawddd what a beautiful love story! I loved watching these two fall and man oh man do they fall hard. An absolute masterpiece as usual my dear!
Tripp Talmage. Talk about a man who falls HARD. This man was gone for our girl the second he say her from across the ice. Tripp literally would turn the world upside down for Freya and her little family. I mean name another man who falls for the single mom with a sick baby girl and offers to marry her to guarantee she gets the surgery she needs..I’ll wait. I loooved watching Tripp fall oh so hard and to wait for Freya to catch up with him. He was so patient and I loved him even more for allowing Freya to heal in her own time. So dang beautiful.
Freya Hale. My strong ass mama! This girl has been through literally hell. She lost her husband tragically and is now raising 3 little ones. But man, watching her heal and realizing she could love again pulled at all of my heart strings. The moment Freya realizes she’s allowed to love again and be a woman again will forever live in my heart. I absolutely loved watching these two, they were so sweet and heartwarming and oh so spicy. ❤️🔥
Talking about spice, gooood gawd. Let’s just say this man has a way with words and I will never look at a coaches desk the same way again 🤭🍑
I can’t wait for what Hannah has up her sleeve! It’s gonna be a wild ride babyyy!

Because I absolutely couldn’t stand Freya. Her character arc made no sense, whatsoever.
Also, it’s a romance book. It’s supposed to be about the love of your life (which is what she only called Jamie), not the guy that comes after as a consolation prize. Tripp deserved better.
Seriously, though. I would understand if she said that *she* wasn’t ready to move on. That’s not what she said, though, is it? Nah, she considered being with another man cheating, because of the marriage vow. By her definition, all widowed people should stay alone and miserable, because they once promised forever to someone. I’m pretty sure it’s “till death do us part”, not immortality, but what do I know. She wasn’t even pressured into thinking that way, everyone encouraged her to move on, even her late husband’s mother was clear on the fact that he was an awesome guy and wouldn’t want her to be alone for the rest of her life. It absolutely didn’t make sense, then, for her to think that moving on was something wrong and unforgivable.
I couldn’t even take her unfounded guilt seriously, since she suddenly dropped it like it was nothing the moment they got handsy with each other. Be so for real, girl.
To be fair, that going from 0 to 100 made no sense across the board. They barely knew each other, almost never actually talked and then bam! They’re in love. Huh?
On the plus side, I liked everything else in the book, besides the romance storyline. The prologue made me bawl my eyes out, the kids were freaking awesome and the hockey guys were fun as always. I just don’t think Hannah Gray should write second-love type of romance, because it’s the second one of hers I’ve read and in both cases the other main character feels like a consolation prize, not… well, not the main character in the other character’s love life.
OK, I had a bittersweet time while reading this book. I will be 100% honest I am not ready for the New England Bay sharks to be over. But if we are going to go out with the final book, Hannah Gray blew it out of the park with this one Tripp Talmage is for sure my number one and that man can do no wrong.
This book was emotional. It in the prologue made me cry, and it definitely took you for a ride. This book is Tripp and Freya’s story. Tripp is the goalie for the New England Bay sharks and Freya is a single mom of three kids who are absolutely adorable (cane, cash, and avianna). On the outside, looking in you would think that these two were from completely different worlds and would not have anything that would make their world collide, but they truly were destined to have their adorable meat cute and for their worlds to be interconnected. They need each other in a true found family situation.
Without trying to give too much of this book away and trying to convince you to read it because I could not put this book down.I had the hardest time wanting to read this book more but also at the same time wanting the story not to end. The growth and situations that both Tripp and Freya have to go through, as well as navigating the addition of her three children adds to the ability Hannah has at writing a story that can be captivating, emotional and heartfelt.
This story is not just about Tripp and Freya, the Adorableness of Freya‘s kids I swear some of their one liners were just ridiculously amazing! This book made me feel all the emotions and the lead up to what’s to come for the next series just has me jumping for joy! Hannah’s books always keep me coming back for more and itching for the next release!
Wake Me Up is book 5 in the New England Bay Sharks series featuring Tripp Talmage & Freya Hale.
After the sudden loss of her husband, Freya is busy raising their three children and working at her grandfather’s bakery. Five years later, her son Cash attends a hockey camp ran by the Bay Sharks and Tripp is one of the coaches. Tripp takes interest in Cash’s potential and when he meets Freya he wants to know more about her.
In the 5 years since her husband passed ,Freya has never given another man a moment of her attention as she doesn’t want to go against her vows to him. However when one of her children requires surgery that her insurance won’t pay for , Tripp offers to pay but Freya immediately turns it down.
Tripp offers another solution but Freya doesn’t want to do it. She eventually relents as she feels it is the only option she has. The more time Tripp & Freya spend together, the more the tension continues to spark and when it eventually snaps, it leads to quite the payoff.
Freya begins to worries that Tripp will want a family of his own and knowing she can’t give that to him, she attempts to sabotage everything. Can Tripp convince Freya that she and her children are all he’ll ever need?
This story was extremely emotional at times but in the best way possible. It moved me to tears and also left me with a splitting smile on my face. Tripp was textbook book boyfriend material, and I loved how far gone he was for not only Freya but also her children. Freya has been through so much but still found a way through for her children and of course the kiddos were the icing on the cake! I highly recommend picking up this book and the entire Bay Sharks series for that matter!
Thank you Hannah Gray for my copy of Wake Me Up. 🤍 I received this book for review, all opinions are my own and given freely.
Hannah has become one of my favorite comfort read authors. Wake Me Up is the final book in her New England Bay Sharks series and boy did she end on a banger. NHL goalie MMC, widowed FMC with 3 kiddos, he’s grumpy as all get out but soft for her and the kids then throw in marriage of convenience?! Stick a fork in me. I am dooooone. The prologue had me in tears amongst other parts throughout the book. This book is heavily emotional, touching on grief and healing, second chances and just felt so raw and real. Easily 5 stars from me!
Although I am sad to see this series come to an end, I’m pumped to see what Hannah has in store for us. Whatever Hannah writes, I’m going to read so LFG!
Hannah had me in tears during the prologue and throughout the whole book! 😭 This was such a beautiful story about life after the loss of a loved one and allowing yourself to be happy. Tripp Talmage was just 😍😍😍. Loved this grumpy goalie so much and he was the absolute definition of “if he wanted to, he would”. The way he loved Freya and the kids was 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🥰. This was a slow burn but so necessary for the storyline and the payoff was 🥵🫠. My heart was so happy by the end ❤️. What a great way to end the series!
-hockey romance -single mother -marriage of convenience -widowed fmc -he falls first
ohhhhhh the tension & the angst were SOOOOOO freaking good at the beginning of this & for a good 80% of this whole book!! the switch from that to conclusion was a little fast but the dynamic with their relationship & freya's kids were soooo stinking cute! i loved them!
Wow did I think Tripp was a grumpy man. Boy I was wrong. The reason for the marriage. Chef kiss. I also was HYSTERICAL in the prolog. I warned you.
It was nice to see everyone getting a happy ending and being healthy at the end. I highly recommend if you like to follow the journey of falling in love again after loss. This one was a tough one for me to read as I lost my mom and it has been a journey for me as well. I could never imagine losing my husband I felt for Ferya.
Wake Me Up delivers a beautiful story full of raw emotions that completely captured my heart. I literally needed tissues 4% in!
Tripp and Freya’s story was full of emotions, intense feelings and undeniable chemistry. Pulled together by chance, these two were able to connect on a deeper level and be vulnerable with each other. The attraction might’ve been instant but the way they worked at building a deeper connection and relationship was simply beautiful. I loved the way Tripp was able to encourage her to communicate her feelings and needs when all Freya wanted was to close herself off. Their chemistry was also scorching hot! Tripp’s dirty mouth was chef’s kiss. That man had me swooning and sweating at the same time. And as hot as he was, he was also a big sweetheart. You can definitely see this side of him with her kids. The fact that he could see himself in them and offer the support they needed was some of my favourite parts of their story. Avy, Cash and Cane were the sweetest kids.
I have to say that this might just be the author’s best work yet and it was the perfect way to end the New England Bay Sharks series. 1000/10 recommend!
I’m also super excited for what comes next after that ending!!!
I would like to thank Hannah Gray for the opportunity to read and review Wake Me Up.
This was my favorite Hannah Gray book, hands down. I balled my dang eyes out multiple times. it was everythinggggggg I want in a book. Tripp is a man made in heaven.
& the lil surprise at the end!!! are you kiddddddding me! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
oh, this was one of the easiest 5 star reads in a while 🥹😭 i sobbed too hard. I loved too hard. All these characters and their development is beautiful. It's definitely my favorite of the series, and I can't wait for the 2nd gen🥹
It’s been 3 days and I can’t stop thinking about this book. It felt exactly like the puck boys did and was sooooooo much better than bite your tongue. Such a beautiful story and now I am so pumped for the second gen!!!! More Cam hardy and Isla? Heck yea give it to me now 🥰
My rating is 3.7. This was an emotional book and I teared up a few times. Most of the time instant love doesn't phase me, but for some reason I struggled to believe this one. I've never been through their trauma, and Freya's soul crushing grief was difficult for me to wrap my mind around. I was surprised that 5 years later she was so dedicated to remaining faithful to her deceased husband. She was so messed up about it, that I think she should have sought grief counseling before getting in to a relationship with Tripp.
The kids were cute and I loved how Tripp was with them. He didn't get to know them because he wanted to be with Freya. He genuinely loved the kids and wanted to be around them for their sakes.
- Widow - Marriage of Convenience - Hockey Romance
This book deserves alllll of the stars. Tripp is literally what dreams are made of 😍
I swooned, I laughed, I cried….so goood! Freya and Tripp were the perfect ending to this amazing series!
Tripp was like no other MMC I have read from Hannah so far. I went through a roller coster of emotions, and Tripp was just amazing throughout. I loved that both MCs were in their 30s and going through real life problems and working on them together. It was very refreshing and worth the read 100%.
Thank you so much to Hannah Gray for sending this ARC to me and for allowing me to be on her content team! Its an amazing community and team to be on! 💕
✨ARC Review✨ If I didn’t have mom duty and could have finished this all at one time, I would have! What a way to end the series! I honestly believe the author is an emotional sadist from the way she started the book. She’s trying to make you cry with that prologue!
Tripp, the goalie of the Sharks, is known for his grumpy attitude and rough exterior. It isn’t until he meets Freya and her son Cash at a hockey clinic that his inner softie is exposed. He is immediately drawn to Freya and wants to be around her as much as he can. Some men would only use her kids as pawns to get to her, but Tripp is a genuinely good man and likes her kids as well.
Freya lost her husband in a car accident 5 years ago and has had to take on the role of both parents for her kids Cane, Cash and Avianna. Tripp is the first man she’s felt something for since then and she’s terrified for multiple reasons. She feels like she is betraying Jamie (her husband) and worries about how her kids will be affected if they get attached and Tripp decides to leave.
When little Avianna, who has epilepsy, needs a very expensive brain surgery that Freya cannot afford, Tripp offers marriage so that she can use his health insurance. Little does she know that he doesn’t plan on keeping it fake. Watching the two of them grow as characters and come together is beautiful, and so well written. I loved the kids and how they were such an integral part of their relationship and story.
The ending? It was perfect! I won’t spoil it, but it was the perfect way to end not only Tripp and Freya’s story, but the series as well. This can be read as a standalone, but it’s much more enjoyable after reading the others. Highly recommend! #hefallsfirst #singlemom #marriageofconvenience #hockeyromance
Freya and Tripp’s story has absolutely consumed me. The way Hannah wrote the children into this book is nothing short of magical—they’ve completely worked their way into my heart. What I love most is how Tripp is building individual bonds with each child, while also learning how to love them as a family unit, and we get to see it all unfold through Freya’s eyes.
Tripp’s journey is beautiful—he never really thought he needed love, knowing deep down his past relationships weren’t it. But he can’t stop thinking about Freya… or her kids. One of the most moving lines is when Cash thanks Tripp simply “for being my friend.” That moment alone is worth everything—it hits right in the heart.
Yes, Hannah gives us her signature hockey backdrop, but she goes deeper: showing the realities of the people who stand beside professional athletes, the struggles of parenting, and even how conditions like epilepsy impact daily life. She writes with honesty and care, weaving in triggers that feel raw and real, yet balanced with hope.
This is also a marriage-of-convenience story (my weakness!), layered with grief, healing, and second chances. Hannah perfectly captures what it feels like to lose a spouse young—how opening yourself up to love again can feel like betrayal. Watching Freya wrestle with those emotions was heartbreaking, but so authentic.
On the lighter (and spicier) side—let’s just say Hannah Gray knows how to write steam. The tension, the texts, the dirty talk—it’s top-tier spice. And yes, if a man tells you to sit on his face, you absolutely sit on his face. 🔥
This book is filled with grief, growth, messy love, kids who’ll steal your soul, and a hero who shows love not just to the woman he’s falling for, but to her children too. It’s tender, it’s sexy, it’s real—and I truly believe this is one of Hannah Gray’s best works yet.
This book was the perfect book to wrap up this series. I have loved every book in this series. Tripp is definitely one of my favorite MMC from this series. Hannah had me crying from the prologue. This story broke me from the pain of Tripp and Freya but Hannah put me back together with how beautiful there story played out.
Tropes: Hockey Romance He falls first Widowed FMC Slow burn Marriage of Convenience
Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tripp is at skills clinic that his NHL team has been putting on once a month. While at the camp Tripp hits it off with one of the kids. When Cash mom comes to pick him up Tripp has is drawn to Freya and feels things he has never felt. He knows he can’t hit on married women but there is something about her.
Hannah couldn’t have wrapped this series up with a more perfect book. I loved this series from the beginning. Logan Sterns will always be favorite man but I loved Tripp just as much as Logan. Each book of this series really brought you into the story and tug at your heart strings. I’m sad the series is over but excited the new series coming.
** I want to thank Hannah Gray for giving me the chance to read Wake me Up as an ARC. In exchange for my honest review and thoughts.****
