A Wolf's Heart
An orphaned wolf shifter growing up in the human world. I knew I was different from a young age, everyone is different, however it was my adoptive parents' warning to hide my wolf form that told me my kind of difference was bad.
A secret from the humans, lost from the wolves, I carved my own path, my own career as a homicide detective. I was comfortable and I was safe, until I was found.
A string of murders brought them to my territory. Ruthless and cunning, the last thing Kage, Rainor, and Weylin expected was that they were my mates. The last thing I needed was attention from the largest, wealthiest, and most dangerous pack around.
Now, a triggered heat, an alpha serial killer, and a shit ton of dark secrets begin carving a new path for me. Is this it? Have I reached the point where I bend and break? Perhaps the best thing my parents ever did was concealed me because, as it turns out, I have some secrets of my own.

February 13, 2025I don't know how to rate this. There were a couple of points I wanted to DNF but pushed through.
I loved the older FMC. I loved that she wasn't a wannabe or a scared little mouse like the Luna, Emma. She acted appropriately for her age, experience as a detective and her lack of knowledge of Shifters. All those things felt authentic. At the end of the book, her raging thoughts during the torture scene felt kinda off, then kinda acceptable, then were gone. That was weird. I do have to wonder why she never really questioned Rodney's (or whatever his name is) position as Chief of Police. She clearly thought something was up but she never thought to look into those feelings. There were times she felt stiff and robotic but I didn't have a problem with that based on how alone she was.
Kage is a flaming asshole. His callous disregard for everything is so detestable. I wanted to dick punch him when he told Emma she was to offer her "services" to Weylin and Rain. What the everloving hell!! I don't know how he can be so oblivious to the fact that "FOR THE GOOD OF THE PACK" is just a horrific justification to excuse doing any horrific thing you want. It makes everything acceptable. And the way he treats and speaks to Weylin. I just can't.
Don't get me started on the Max thing. That was bizarre to the extreme and I don't know if it can possibly be made sense.
And I'm having a hard time reconciling the Luna, Emma, and her role in the pack with the messenger calling Lila, Luna, at the end of the book. What exactly is a Luna cause it can't just mean "baby maker" like Emma is supposed to be?!
So, it sounds like I didn't like the book lol. I did...I think. It was so unique that I have to give the author props for telling it. It seems that there is a checklist for every trope. If you want to write a shifter, these things have to happen. If you want to write a brother's best friend, these things have to happen. Check check check. It's so refreshing to read something that ignores the box is supposed to be written into. But I still had things that squigged me out, made me roll my eyes and had me saying what the hell (and not in a good way)

I could not put this book down. I started this book on the way to work, and every free chance I got I would read another chapter. It’s now 6pm the same day, 3 hours since I finished work, and I have done nothing but read this book. The plot is so captivating and I love the characters! I absolutely cannot wait until the next book!

Get your tissues ready, this one takes you for a ride. Let me tell you, this book grabbed me by the scruff and didn’t let go. We’ve got an orphaned wolf shifter turned homicide detective living her best secret life until—plot twist—her mates roll into town like a trio of walking red flags with trust funds. Oh, and did I mention there’s an alpha serial killer on the loose? Because obviously, the universe wasn’t going to let her just vibe in peace.
Our heroine is a whole vibe: snarky, badass, and keeping her wolf-ish secrets tighter than a shapeshifter in skinny jeans. Her backstory? Painful but empowering. Her life choices? A+ relatable. And don’t even get me started on Kage, Rainor, and Weylin—the dangerous trifecta who somehow manage to be infuriating and irresistible. (Seriously, who gave them the right to be so hot and so annoying?)
The heat level? Let’s just say it’s giving volcano meets heat wave—triggered or not. The twists? Deliciously dark and twistier than my earbuds after five minutes in my pocket. And the sass? Sharp enough to cut through all the pack drama and then some.
If you love mystery, spice, and an MC who could out-sass a grumpy alpha while solving murders, this is your new obsession. Just clear your schedule, because you won’t be able to put this down. Now excuse me while I go howl at the moon and stalk the author for sequels (hopefully soon, that cliffhanger was tough). 🐺🔥

This is a start to a brand new series, and holy cow, was it addicting. Once I started, I couldn't put it down! The storyline was so intriguing that I was mentally and physically making notes and demanding more because it was so intense. It leaves you wanting more.
Lila is a wolf shifter who was abandoned to humans as a baby. For this, she doesn't feel a belonging on either world. She also doesn't know anything about the shifters' laws. She is a detective in the local precinct, and when bodies start showing up, she is tasked with the case. Enter Weylin, Kage, and Rainor. These three come in a sweep the case from her before inviting her back when they need her. What happens when they find out their fated? What happens when there is already another Luna? What happens when Lila herself is the key to this whole case?
This book is fast-paced. It's action-packed. The tension and drama are so thick that it's almost suffocating at times! The spice is off the charts!!! Kage is the cruel one. He is outright, mean, and manipulative and has so much groveling to do. Rainor is a beast, literally lol. He can't hold his wolf back and is terrible. He does come to terms through the book, though. Weylin, he is the goofy golden retriever of the bunch. He was there for her from the first second and was all in damned the consequences.
This book does end on a cliffhanger. It is not a big one but it does leave you with more questions then answers as to why.

I loved every moment of this book, it had me gripped from the beginning! One of my favourite things in the whole book was Lila's and Max's (her dog) bond/relationship throughout it all. It reminds me how powerful our relationships will animals can be and just loved it. The story, plot twists and the relationship development kept me invested and just want to carry on reading the next book!
Lila is a great fmc whose a homocide detective in a small town with her ex-police dog Max whose retired. I couldn't predict a lot of things that came plot wise while reading and that got me invested even more. I'm enjoying the lowkey obsessive nature of Weylin with Lila and love Rainor. Kage grew on me as the story progressed so looking forward to the next book for him to win me over more!
I can't recommend this book enough! Treat yourself to this and you won't be disappointed at all, a fab read!

Hi book friends!
I received an ARC of this book (thank you!!!) and finished it the same day. It was a smooth, interesting read.
I liked Lila. She's smart, friendly, and loves coffee. I liked the duality of Rainor. The book didn't drag, there was plenty of action and humor.
However, there were a few things I also didn't like. When a person makes it clear they don't want you, physically, I'd consider any sexual touch an assault. I didn't find the scene sexy, I found it uncomfortable. Voyeurism without explicit permission, I consider a gross invasion of privacy.
I disliked Kage for most of the book. I do admit he had his moments but if he died, I wouldn't shed any tears.
The ease that Lila accepted the revelation at the end was weird as heck. Also how she smiled at Kage while telling herself and them how she hated them. Though I liked Lila, her reactions where baffling to me. Especially during and after the Chapters that involved Malcolm.
To conclude, while some sections had my brows furrowing, I'd definitely read the next book.

This is the first book in a new series, and it will have you begging for more! The storyline is so unique to anything I've ever read before, and the world building and character growth is AMAZING!
The Fmc Lila is a tough as nails detective who also happens to be a shifter. She was adopted and raised by human parents who did their best to raise her, though they knew nothing of being a shifter. She has ALOT to learn, and her teachers come in the form of 3 Alphahole shifters who happen to be her fated mates.
This book will take you on a wild Rollercoaster of emotions and the storyline has all kinds of twists and turns!
If you love wild twisty stories, with hot wolf shifters, unaliving, lots of steam and a mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat then this is definitely the book for you!

This book was awesome. I wasn’t so sure with the beginning but got hooked. Overall plot was like a mürder mystery to solve beings Lila was a detective. Weylin was my fav of her mates; he was pretty goofy at times & extra clingy. Rainor was fighting his inner beast but Lila made them both feel seen. Kage though can park his behind in the corner & stay there lol he needs to unlearn what his father taught him about being pack. I felt a connection with Lila cause she’s stubborn, has some sass & I also tend to not cook well, (also I do the cold hand thing to my husband all the time cause it’s hilarious). The end had some unexpected twists & what happened to Max was weirdly funny (maybe not for him or anyone else but me).

This was my first book by Aly and I'm so glad that she was brought to me attention by a mutual acquaintance.
I love her writing style and the way this story and its characters evolve. On one hand, you have a strong and independent FMC and on the other hand, some very strong willed (and buttheaded) MCs, whilst trying to navigate their storyline.
My favorite were her plot twists, witty dialog and, yes, also her writing the characters how they are so you can only grow to kinda hate them and still sort of love them :D
Can't wait to read more from her and again am so happy that I (was) stumbled upon her.

Wolf shifter, reverse harem with fated mates. First in series? Our heroine was raised by the loving humans who found her on their doorstep, but she can shift into a wolf. The family hides it and she never interacts with other shifters. She has now become the local homicide detective and a series of murders occurs in her small town. The neighboring shifter pack's alpha trio comes to take over the investigation and surprise, they are her mates. The writing style of this book is just not comfortable. It is choppy and hard to read. It is correctly edited, but the prose and dialogue seem stilted. It is pretty dark and has many upsetting plot aspects, including eating hearts of people, and danger to pets.

This is my second time reading a book by Aly Westman. I had previously read “Saving the Halfback” and loved it so much! So of course I was so happy to read this book.
This book was a totally different genre from the last book. Don’t get me wrong, it was just as good, if not better. What made this book better was the shifter aspect which included mates, scents, heats and territorial, unhinged alphas. And let’s not even get into the twists in this book..there’s just so much you need to “see” for yourself.
Thank you, Aly Westman for another amazing read. I hope to read more about these characters in another book but I am down to read whatever you have coming out next!

I won’t be continuing with this.
The MC just isn’t developed enough—there’s barely any detail about her. What does she enjoy? What are her hobbies, her interests? Even something as basic as her hair or eye color is missing. It’s hard to connect with a character who feels so vague.
But the worst part, honestly, is the ML, Kage. He’s the classic type who instantly hates the MC for no real reason—overdone and frustrating. And don’t even get me started on the OW drama. I can’t stand that trope, and the whole situation with keeping Emma? It just feels like lazy conflict and unnecessary angst.
Disappointing, unfortunately.

Lila, abandoned at birth and raised by humans, has no knowledge of how to be a shifter or any understanding of shifter society and culture. She works as a police detective in the small town where she grew up, living a relatively normal and safe life—until the murders she is investigating bring trouble to her doorstep. This trouble takes the form of Kage, Rainer, and Weylin, who are her mates.
I must admit, I didn't particularly enjoy Kage or the other two main male characters. I found Kage to be especially cruel, manipulative, and self-absorbed. Although Weylin grows on you as the story progresses, and Rainer may be redeemable, Kage has a long way to go.

A Wolf's Heart by Aly Westman is the first in a new series. Your going to want to grab some tissues and get ready for a cry. I loved Lila. She is just so strong, so smart. If I had to pick a favorite it would be Weylin. Rainor for the most part was worthy of Lila, but Kage...he needs a d1(k pun(#. He needs someone strong like Lila to keep him in line. Loved it. But my heart broke for Max. Does end on a cliff hanger - can't wait for the second book!

Ok, I need the next one! This story pulled me in, with both an interesting plot and characters, and little twists here and there.
Lila was a strong woman, a wolf shifter and detective, who had been alone for a long time. Though her pup companion was awesome - Max was sweet.
She finds her mates, three men with varying degrees of affection for her. It took me a little time to warm up to Kage, but Weylin and Rainor were easy to like.
This story was emotional at times, but also sweet. I can't wait to see what'll happen next!
Ok, I need the next one! This story pulled me in, with both an interesting plot and characters, and little twists here and there.
Lila was a strong woman, a wolf shifter and detective, who had been alone for a long time. Though her pup companion was awesome - Max was sweet.
She finds her mates, three men with varying degrees of affection for her. It took me a little time to warm up to Kage, but Weylin and Rainor were easy to like.
This story was emotional at times, but also sweet. I can't wait to see what'll happen next!

absolutely amazing
I was in a reading funk and this got me out of it. I could not find an interesting book or book I haven’t read. I’m disappointed though… that this doesn’t already have a second book I can read right away!!! I’m always skeptical when I see few ratings but I think it’s because it just hasn’t gotten out there yet! So give it a try give it a read, you’ll only be disappointed it isn’t a whole series yet!

Really good story
Wow. Haven't read a great shifter story in a while, and this definitely was a great one. The twist at the end made up for the cliffhanger. I would say this was super spicy. Maybe 3.5 out of 5. Suspense was great. Didn't know how it was going to go, and while I kind of guessed how some of it would, I didn't expect it all. I would recommend this if you like RH and wolves.

I bought this book from the author at a book conference and I’m so happy I did. It was such a quick fun read! The story hooked me right away and I couldn’t put the book down. The spice was fantastic 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Weylin took my heart though I love the why choose trope. Can’t wait for book 2 to come out.

Well, that's a bit of a cliffhanger. I have so many questions. I quite like this story and couldn't put it down. Lila is one strong, independent FMC who I hope does not ever let the guys run her life for her. The personalities of the men couldn't be more different, yet they work well together. I am excited to read the second book and see what happens next.

A fabulous, enthralling, reverse harem that had fantastic world building and captivating characters. Lila and her dog, Max, were so likeable. She is a wolf shifter detective investigating a series of murders and meets Kage. Weylin and Rainor. Loved the character development, the plot twists and the secrets that are revealed.

This was a tough story. While there were things I liked there were things I did not care for and I will let others judge for themselves. Lila is put in a difficult situation from the start now up against her mates, who i have mixed emotions about as well. Then information discovered about her family and the cliffhanger. I'm curious how it will play out in the next book.

Man I loved this one! Reluctant fated mates wolf shifter RH. Nice tension and medium burn, FMC is likable, smart, intuitive but not perfect (which I like). The guys definitely have individual personalities (I loved Weylin!). It’s rare that a book makes me cry and this one def did. Cliffhanger made me immediately look for a book 2! Can’t wait.

it was a quick read
A lone wolf has bodies turning up in her territory with their hearts ripped out. Then she finds she is surrounded by wolves and that she has 3 mates.
I read this because of a booktok video I saw. Now normally this creator is spot on with her refs but this one just didn’t draw me in like I was hoping for.

This was a good, pretty unique shifter story that is well written. I liked Lila Rain and Weylin, but i really struggled with Kage. He seems like a douche for the sake of it, no tragic back story like the other 2, just a spoilt, narcissistic elitist arse.
