Short and Shocking! is full of stories with a twist in the tale - each surprising and stimulating in its own way.
Over forty stories in one book - all of them very, very short! None of the stories are more than two pages long, but each of them is special and thought-provoking. Drawn from a range of sources, including folk tales, urban myths, and narrative jokes, as well as original stories, the stories are ideal for use in the classroom or home.
I was looking for a book of short stories to read to my students if we have a spare couple of minutes at the end of the lesson. These stories are short and there are a few clever ones but many are uninteresting. Some are stories which I’ve heard before; the sort of stories and jokes that are passed on by word of mouth.
I was surprised by the number which featured stereotypical characters, e.g. the foolish man named Paddy, etc. so although it doesn’t actually say the “stupid Irishman”, it is still very clear who the butt of the joke is meant to be.
This book is a book with about a hundred one-to-two-page stories in it. I'm going to tell you about one of the stories. Weird Ben, a creepy old man with some weird stories, wanted to teach his grandchild about how to handle a duck-sized-horse. But, while he was doing that, a horse-sized-duck came up to him and asked Ben how to handle a horse-sized-duck. So, Weird Ben just told the same story but backwards. The, a few of their other questions were answered... This story and book is about humor, scariness, and confusion.
