I devoured this book in one sitting—and I don’t say that lightly. As someone who lives for young adult fantasy with rich worlds, deep characters, and dragons (especially dragons!), Dragon Origins completely delivered on all fronts. It was everything I didn’t know I was craving.

Right from the start, the story grabbed me with its unique take on dragon lore. This isn't your typical fire-and-flight dragon story—Aelann P. Jade gives us a legendary dragon destined to protect, a main character with a dangerously unpredictable power that literally kills those too close, and a rising threat of black dragons set on corrupting the land. The stakes are real, and the tension builds in all the right ways.

The world-building? Chef’s kiss. Jade crafts a land that feels vast and old, like you’re stepping into a legend in progress. You can almost smell the forests and feel the air shift when dragons fly overhead. The magical systems, dragon bonds, and lore behind the protagonist’s deadly ability all felt fresh and meticulously thought out.

But what truly made this book shine for me were the characters. I fell hard for the MC—flawed, fierce, and struggling under the weight of a power she never asked for. Her emotional arc was so well done, and the people around her (allies, rivals, possible love interests 👀) felt like real individuals with their own agendas and complexities. The relationships—whether full of tension, tenderness, or betrayal—kept me totally hooked.

And that ending?? Absolutely tore me apart in the best way. It wrapped things up just enough to be satisfying while leaving the door wide open for the next book (please let there be a next book 😭). If you love fantasy adventures with emotional depth, thrilling action, and DRAGONS (like, actual meaningful dragon lore—not just background creatures), Dragon Origins needs to be on your shelf.
