Single mother Tracey Hiatt prides herself on having a close relationship with her daughter- the kind of relationship she’s always wanted, but never had, with her own mother. When her mother suffers a debilitating illness and faces a lengthy recovery, family takes on a whole new meaning for Tracey as she finds herself pulled back to her ex, Steve Eldridge. There’s only one problem: he’s involved with someone else. Steve is drawn back into Tracey’s family drama and after her mother awakens from a coma believing he and Tracey are married, the two are forced to confront some fundamental questions about their relationship. Can they put past hurts behind them and take a leap of faith into a new future together?
Leap of Faith by author Michele Shriver is a sweet romance, albeit a story fraught with complications is also about second chances.
Tracey Hiatt is single mother and professor of law at Northern Illinois University. When her mother suffers a stroke, old wounds of a dysfunctional relationship between the two run hot at the surface.
When Tracey learns her mother Pamela has made her partly responsible for her advanced directive along with her brother Brian, she is stunned. It would seem rather odd her mother choose the child most hated of the three to decide her fate.
But when she wakes days later after brain surgery, Pamela’s memory has been lost and she believes Tracey and her ex-boyfriend and father to Lindsay, Tracey’s daughter, Steve Eldridge are married.
In order to keep Pamela from relapsing, Tracey and Steve go along with the ruse. Tracey and Steve’s charade and the healing that happens because of a little white lie, makes up the remainder of the book.
Michele is a talented writer. The story weaves the past with the present as we learn about two failed relationships and watch as the story unfolds and past hurts are reconciled with.
I love the ancillary characters, the support system that rallies for Tracey and Steve. It’s a real story, with real-life complications and a story that doesn’t go into over-drive rebuilding relationships, but does so methodically with twists and turns to keep the reader fully engaged and entertained.
I rate a book on two parameters. One, did I want to make it to The End, and two, was the story relatable. Michele’s story, but more so, her fluid ability to tell a story did both. There are no bells and whistles. The writing is clean, the story complex, the emotions completely human and not over-dramatized. I wanted to get to the last page and I rooted for a happily ever after for Tracey and Steve because they worked at it and it was truly deserved.
Fair warning, this book isn’t your run-of-the-mill. There aren’t pages and pages of hot sex used as therapy to bring two adults together, but a poignant story a mother and daughter building a broken relationship and a man and a woman, finding their way back to love through growth and compromise.
I am thoroughly impressed by Michele’s story and her writing. If you believe in love and second chances, I urge you to read this book. My rating – a must read.
Tracey has definitely had issues with her mom over the years, and it takes a life-threatening illness to make her start viewing things differently. Add in the stress of raising a daughter while being best friends, but not partners, with her daughter's father, it makes for an emotional start. Steve never really seemed to get over Tracey, but moved on when she rejected him, though he's been the best father his daughter could ask for.
When I first started reading, I didn't always like Steve, actually, because I felt like he made some bad choices. Then again, who hasn't made bad choices at some point in their life? He is a good man overall, and I hung in there to find out the reasons behind his choices. What it boils down to is that Shriver has written another realistic story that could happen to any of us. Life is messy and hard. But when Tracey's mom wakes up and thinks Tracey and Steve are married, Steve really steps up to the plate and does everything he can to help Tracey's family, being there for her like he always has been.
Some of my favorite scenes where when Steve and Tracey were either alone or on outings with just their daughter. The family dynamic is great and you can tell how much they love each other. It makes you hope this family can somehow find their way back together, but real life still gets in the way sometimes, which kept me on the edge, turning pages to find out whether or not they would.
Shriver writes compelling, realistic stories you can't put down! This book is another hit!
Leap of Faith by Michele Shriver follows the story of Tracey Hiatt and Steve Eldridge. The time never seemed to be quite right for the two. Over a decade later and a preteen daughter, Steve finds himself engaged to someone else and Tracey has her own trials to face. When her mother becomes ill and is in a deep comma, Tracey’s heart takes on an overhaul. She’s thankful for the co-parenting relationship that she and Steve share, but she’s surprised to find she longs for something more.
She can’t help but believe it’s too late. Too late to fix her troubled relationship with her mother. Too late for her and Steve to find happiness. Too late to find true love.
Michele Shriver weaves a beautiful story of heart healing and second chances.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
I started this book this evening and couldn't put it down. The author did a great job weaving the complicated story and characters together.
I have not read the other books in thsi series but I don't think that made a difference.
Life is about second chances, learning from past mistakes, and having hope that dreams do come true. Tracey and Steve have a complicated history and present -- but can their future be salvaged?
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
This was an extremely enjoyable read. It was not too angsty, not too dramatic, but definitely full of story, and passion. The main characters were brought to life very quickly, and so too was the whole cast of this lovely romance. I enjoyed the friendships and the boundaries that people placed on when they should or should not interfere, and the daughter added an interesting viewpoint.
All in all a very pleasurable book to read - thank you Ms Shriver.
I was sent a copy of this book by the author for an honest review, and I gotta say… I LOVED it. It was a good, clean, enjoyable read. It had drama and mystery, but not too angsty. Just comfortable and intriguing. I couldn’t put it down. I read the whole book in one day. Which is saying a lot when you have a rambunctious two year old wrecking everything he touches all day long!
Tracey and Steve share a complicated history that spans over twelve years, as well as an eleven-year-old daughter. Despite their failed attempts at romance, they are always there for each other and for their daughter. When Tracey estranged mother unexpectedly suffers a stroke and winds up in a coma, she will need Steve even more than she realizes. And he wants to be there for her…despite the objections from his live-in girlfriend. Question is: Can Tracey allow herself to depend on Steve after occurrences from their past? They try to fight their pull towards each other, both to protect themselves, their daughter, and their respective relationships. But sometimes, life pushes you together for a reason; you just have to have the courage to take that leap of faith.
Everyone else can see that Tracey and Steve belong together, but will they trust each other enough to take a chance at love again? Or will they keep their relationship a friendly one, focused on raising and loving their daughter?
Tracey is a bit skittish and indecisive, but she’s strong and definitely isn’t a disappointment as a lead female character.
Steve is a good guy, and I was rooting for him the entire time, hoping he’d start making the right decisions.
Meredith is a wretched biotch. That’s all you need to know about her.
And Tracey’s mother… you’ll love her and you’ll hate her, but her feisty butt is the glue that holds everything together.
The author did an excellent job with the timeline of this book. When trying to integrate pertinent information from a twelve-year relationship into the present story, it would be easy to leave things out or add too much or make the story seem choppy, but that didn’t happen in this book. Everything flows well, and you get the info from the past when you need it. And in just the right amounts. And without giving away too much too soon. Kudos to you, Ms. Shriver!
Because I am a Grammar Nazi, I will point out that there were a few editing issues with missing and/or extra words and words in the wrong order, but it wasn’t enough to take away from the story or to decrease my 5-star rating of the book. That’s how much I loved the story and the writing.
This story isn’t full of sex and heavy, angsty drama. It’s a clean love story that contains the real world drama of complicated relationships, both familial and romantic. If you’re looking for a refreshing read that keeps you interested and warms your heart, I highly recommend this book. Even if you aren’t looking for that, pick up this book anyway. It makes you feel that good!
The book revolves around Tracey, a single mum to eleven year old daughter Lindsey who she co-parents with her ex boyfriend Steve. The book starts with Tracey in the hospital, visiting her estranged mother who is currently in a coma. Feeling guilty over not having a relationship with her mum for so long, she decides to try and help her recovery. Tracey soon finds out that it’s not going to be easy when her mother wakes up thinking that Steve and Tracey are happily married.
This was a sweet, easy read. Perfect for reading if you’re relaxing in the garden or lazing on the beach. I enjoyed it and was happy not to have to think too much about what was going on. We get to see from both Steve and Tracey’s POV’s, which I think worked well. You get to see both characters struggle with their feelings from a man and woman’s prospective.
The side characters really helped with the flow of the story. It was nice to see Tracey and Steve being the hands on parents that Lindsey needed. Even if things were complicated in their lives and in their relationship, their main focus was their daughter.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Miranda from the start, so I was pleased her true colours showed through. I also liked the whole Diana storyline and that things were not as black and white as they first appeared.
This book really was a joy to read and I recommend it to anyone who loves a second chance at love. The title really hits the nail on the head; sometimes you have to stop listening to your head and follow what your heart is telling you.
I super love the last chapter of this book. The lump on my throat was was so big, I thought I was going to choke on it.
I love reading second chance love and this book has not disappoint me.
I love the simplicity of this story. Very relatable. Very realistic. Steve, who kinda knows what he wants, but just don't know how to go about it. As I have said, very realistic, so many guys out there, knowing what they want but not really know how to get what they want. I mean, Steve is obviously brilliant as a lawyer, Just a dork on his personal life. He is in an alright guy though, thoughtful in fact. Just needs to be pushed in the right direction. (thank God for Pamela)
I also love how Michele Shriver has incorporated Lindsay, Pamela, Brian, Kim, Justin and Sunny into Tracy's life. That the story was not all about just Tracy and Steve. Not all drama and gooey stuff but also about friendship. Call me a freak, but I really liked the fact that there was no sex scenes on this book. Sometimes, lust just masks what the true story is all about. This book a true vision of what love should be.
4.5 star for Leap of Faith. I love the title, makes us want jump and dive into life.
This was a good book although the beginning wasn't as interesting as the second half, but all in all a good story. Tracey is raising her 11 yr. old daughter, Lindsey, as a single parent. She is a law professor at NIC a local college. Her longtime boyfriend, and Lindsey's father, Steve, is also a practicing Lawyer in a prominent law firm about an hour away. Their relationship was always up and down until two years ago she saw him kiss another woman at their christmas party. Even though he told her it was nothing she broke off their relationship. Not to long after that another lawyer in the firm started chasing Steve. Merideth and Steve started a relationship and her proposed to her, so Tracey figures its time to get over Steve and move on. Her mother, Dorothy has a stroke and it puts her into a coma. Tracey and her mom were never very close and she hadn't seen a lot of her in recent years. She went to the hospital and found her brother, Brian, and her sister, Kim, at her mothers side. She always felt like the outcast of the family. The doctor suggests maybe music might bring her out of her coma, but they said she never liked music, only Tracey's song she sang in high school, Leap of Faith. So Tracey starts to sing to her mom and she does have a reaction so they try it some more and slowly she comes out of her coma. You will enjoy this story as Tracey finds out a secret about the chrismas party that broke up her and Steve and some more things that happen in Steve's life. I think you will find it really was A Leap of Faith
"Leap of Faith" is a wonderful and refreshing story about second chances in love and life. We all can relate to choosing paths of regret and wishing we could find our way back to the starting line. Sometimes we can and sometimes we can't. Fortunately, this is a story where you can relive the "can".
I really enjoyed Leap of Faith, there was no crazy sex and no emotional exhaustion. It was a book on the lighter side for those who just want to read about relationships and life. Tracey and Steve have a lot of background over their 12 years of existence with each other. They have both made a lot of mistakes driving them down opposite roads while still maintaining a superficial relationship for the sake of their daughter. Tracy tries very hard to make single parenthood work for herself and Steve tries to respect her stubbornness, but sometimes your heart does not always agree with your mind.
What was so special about this story is it was not just about second chances between Tracey and Steve. There was another relationship more vital in Tracey's life requiring mending that was the root of her mental emotion. We can all agree, a mother's relationship with a her daughter is the rock to everybody's story. Without our mothers we would all have a piece missing from our life's journey and in Tracey's life, she could not let go or be happy. I hope everybody will take the time to read Leap of Faith, we all can relate to Tracey's story at some point in our lives and appreciate a story about second chances in life and love. I rate Leap of Faith 5 incredible stars.
I liked this book, it was warm and sweet and romantic, I did however have some issues with it, which is why it didn't receive a 5 star rating.
The book is well written but I thought there was something lacking in the connection between the two main characters. They were in a relationship, had a child together and have separated. Tracy is single and lives alone with their 11 yr old daughter, while Steve is in a relationship with a co-worker.
Throughout the book, both parties have shown that they have not completely let each other go, be it her always going to him when she is down or in need of comfort in some way, or him always going to her when she needs him. And, as they do have a child together, it is to be expected that they share that connection. But, what didn't feel right to me was the way they interacted with one another. They are supposedly still in love but while they each think of the other, for me, there wasn't much of this connection that they are supposed to have. I didn't feel it. There was some jealousy on her part, going on a date with the hunky doctor when she realised how much he has moved on, but other than that, it felt somewhat stale. That didn't last throughout the story, however, it did pick and get better and it was a really lovely romance story.
Sarah's Review: Thank you to One More Chapter for reaching out for a tour opportunity. I read the blurb and I wanted to read more. This book was definitely one that I needed to read and it came at the perfect time. I had been reading sweet and virtually drama free romances this week and this one had just enough drama that I loved it even more.
When Tracey's mother becomes ill and she returns to be with her family, she is hesitant because of a strained relationship with her. However, when her mother surprises the family with who has power of attorney in a situation like this, she does the right thing and takes part in the decision making with her brother. When Tracey's ex and her daughter's father shows up at the hospital, Tracey isn't sure why he showed up.
Steve gets a call from Brian, Tracey's brother, to reschedule a court case because of their mother's illness and he knows that he needs to show up at the hospital. Steve is there for Tracey and Lyndsey when they need him and even when they don't realize they need him.
Even though Tracey and Steve are no longer a couple, they still have feelings that neither completely want to acknowledge until the truth comes out about what happened to end the relationship two years ago. When the truth comes out, there is drama but with all drama, the truth prevails and things can end up being corrected.
I hadn't read the previous lead up to this book, so although I sort of jumped in at the deep end, it was still fine. I would have liked to have known the previous history but still enjoyed this lovely book.
Michele Shriver, I have a couple of her books that I intended to 'get around to reading' but never did. I joined a blog tour and agreed to read and review this book. I don't know why I've waited such a long time to read her other books because going on this one, I am sure to enjoy them.
This kept me interested practically all day. I loved the chemistry between the two of them. Although I could guess what would happen, it still didn't take away the enjoyment of my reading.
I was shocked at who became the power of attorney though. That was a turn up for the books, but I later understood why.
At first based around her Mother who is severely ill in hospital, on her death bed really, no one knowing if she is going to survive or not, that kept me riveted.
Tracey Hiatt is a single mom and tries to build a bond with her daughter that she never had with her own mother Pamela.
Pamela endures a medical setback and this starts to show how family is supposed to be: close and looking after each other. Pamela's condition pulls Steve & Tracey together in more than one scenario, but is it too late for them to have a family happily ever after?
Pamela wakes from a coma thinking Tracey & Steve got married. Will the truth set them free? If Tracey takes a Leap of Faith which direction will it lead?
Lindsey is Tracey & Steve's daughter. She wonders why her parents never got married? "It's complicated." Will their complications find solutions to help them finally become a family of 3 or will discussing the past bury the knife deeper in Tracey's heart.
I really enjoyed this novel. I gave it four stars. It's nice to read something clean and not too X-rated. It was a fun & quick read. - See more at: http://kumikoleilostinabook.blogspot....
This book follows the story of Steve and Tracey. But I am getting ahead of myself. It begins with Tracey coming home with her pre-teen daughter due to her mother’s life threatening health issues. This throws Tracey also back into a world that includes her ex-Steve. The problem now is the Steve is engaged to someone else.
This is a story with love, romance, heartbreak, family, second chances and taking a leap of faith. Tracey is forced to take a moment and reconnect with her family and her past; it is definitely not under the best circumstances.
This story shows the struggles of what can happen in life when maybe you know what you want but just don’t know how to make it happen and are scared to try for risk of failure. Can Tracey and Steve get past their issues from the past to have a second chance at love or is it too late?
If you love a story that is truly relatable and keeps it realistic about the struggles of life, family, love, and finding happiness through taking chances then you will love this book.
OMG, this was such a great book!! Once I started it this morning I couldn't put it down till the end. If you love to read books about getting a second chance at love then this is the book for you.
To me, the synopsis says it all but I loved seeing the story play out between Tracey and Steve. When you learn the details of what really happened the night she ended it your jaw will drop but it didn't surprise me one bit.
After all the hurt and pain that they have both been thru, will they be able to put past hurts behind them and take a leap of faith into a new future together?
Other than 1 or 2 people, the secondary characters are great!! I noticed that while this book is a standalone that Tracey and some of her friends also are in other books by Mrs. Shriver. This is my first read by this author but it def won't be my last. I need to go back to the beginning and read about Tracey, Beth, Jordan and Sarah.
Go one click this book now...you will not regret it!!
As I read this book i felt a little weary as I noticed similarities to my own experiences especially with regards to my relationship with my mother. So to say that I was hooked from page one was NOT an understatement!!! That part of the story was incredibly emotional for me because I knew exactly what Tracey felt. Then we get to her relationship with Steve. That was my reprieve from inner turmoil because I could feel from the beginning how much he really cared for her and was just waiting for her to be on the same page or stop being so stubborn. It is never to late to make a change and take a chance at happiness. That's what this story is about taking a chance that you wont fall flat on your face and that you will find the happiness that you so desperately want in your life. A must read for everyone!
If you like second chances at love, then this is the book for you. Tracey is a single mom. She is raising her daughter with her ex (Steve, whom I loved). Although they never married.. they had a good relationship. Tracey seems to have some issues which kept her from every truly letting anyone in. Through it all Steve has stuck with her.
Now Tracey's mom has had a stroke and is in a coma. Steve is there for her. Like he has always been. Steve is engaged to a witch of a woman. She is pure evil and I didn't like her from page one. Something was off about her.
Anyways... sometimes it take something big in life to make you see what you had there all along. Tracey has a second chance to fix all the relationships in her life that needed to be righted. Tracey is lucky to get her second chance. Not a lot of people her one.
What a beautiful read. This book is about second chance love and forgiveness. Tracy has separated from her husband Steve...and they bring up their daughter between them. Tracey has never had a good relationship with her mum so when her mum falls ill and slips into a coma Tracey finds it a struggle to deal with her emotions. Steve helps as much as he can and when her mum wakes up she thinks Steve and Tracey are still married....the book from there shows how true love and forgiveness can work...the trials and up's and down's keep you glued. A lovely story and a worthy 4 stars!
I received this book for an honest review.. I have to tell you that before I read this I honestly didn't know anything about this book. As soon as I started reading I fell in LOVE with it. This was such a wonderful story of love, friendship, and being AWESOME parents. I really enjoyed this story. Tracey and Steve have an 11 year old daughter that they have been raising together but in different houses. This story is about two people who love each other but never seem to get it right together. This is a true romance.. LOVED IT
4 Blushing Divas Stars!!!! This book is about forgiveness and second chances, taking a leap of faith to love again. I really enjoyed this book. This is a complicated love story that was hard to put down. I have not read any other books by this author, but I plan to add her to my ever-growing TBR list. :)
