Moving on is not so easy!
Carson Bell had a lovely voice, a heart of gold, and was no slouch in the looks department. He was single handedly bringing up his daughter, Mia, because his wife, Alice, abandoned them when Mia was just a baby.
Alice decided to come back after ten years as part of her therapy. She had some things that she had to do: she would offer Carson a divorce so that he could move on with his life, and she would reconcile with those who had hurt her so she too could move on as well.
What Alice hadn't banked on was how much she still loved Carson. Moving on would not be as easy as she thought.

Quick and enjoyable read. I liked that the book didn't follow the stereotypical "dead beat dad" storyline but showed that there are responsible, honorable men in this world who take their God-given responsibility seriously. Carson's relationship with his daughter Mia was refreshing to read.

Alice on the other hand came across as being distant and self piting, which is understandable considering what happened to her as a teen. Nonetheless, I found her almost opportunistic in her relationship with Carson. She did not want to commit to staying with her husband and trying to work things out but wanted to enjoy the sexual benefits of marriage. The two should have worked on their issues before progressing to such intimacies - almost like putting the cart before the horse. Nevertheless, it was a good ending.

"Going Solo" by Brenda Barrett...

What is this novel about?

"Lead singer of the New Song Band, Carson Bell, had a lovely voice, a heart of gold, and was no slouch in the looks department. So why did his wife, Alice, abandon him and their daughter? And why after ten years was she now waltzing back into his life, wanting to pick up where they left off? Will Carson take her back, or will he choose to go solo for the rest of his life?"

What I liked about this book...

All I can say is that this was a good and very interesting Christian read about Alice and Carson. This author gives the reader a well written novel that will address many interesting issues especially those dealing with church people. It all goes to show one that it doesn't matter what position you may be in at church bad things can happen as it did for Alice. The storyline and characters were really off the chart in that it was all very well written and I found the characters well developed, well portrayed, colorful, real and believable that helped to give the reader a wonderful read from start to finish. How Alice made it though ten years after what had happened to her was truly something but it the end...well, this is where I will stop and say pick up "Going Solo" to see how well this author brings it all out to the reader.

What I especially loved about this read....

I love how we were able to see the 'Fruits of the Spirit" in this amazing novel....'Love, Forgiveness, Patience, and Longsuffering' and in the end we were truly given a sweet ending. All that is left is to get the next series...Duet on Fire.

A quick read about a woman and wife who returns to her island home to face secrets from her past that drove her away from her husband and infant daughter. It is an interesting somewhat predictable story. The writing will need to mature before I can label this a great read. I liked the characters, the underlying message about forgiveness and the expression of deep love between the main characters. I was occasionally annoyed by the pace but overall liked the book.

I don't know how Brenda Barrett does it?!!? She has a gift of weaving such intricate and in depth, story lines with authentic characters that you grow to love and connect with AND she does it usually in 200 pages or less. This is definitely what I consider amazing writing. Again, I am drawn to this new series and look forward to book 2. If you are looking for a quick, yet contemplative, faith driven, lingering story, any of the books by Brenda Barrett will satiate the desire. Great read!!

Wow! This book was an expected surprise. Very captivating. So many things to ponder when reading something so heartbreaking. I'm in awe and in love with Carson. His heart is so good....he's to be admired. I cannot fathom a life with so much promise being shattered and threatened by so many people on so many levels like Alice's was. Although my heart broke while reading this book I thoroughly enjoyed the love story and the journey of forgiveness.

Quick read about forgiveness, learning to let go of your past and how forgiving people who have hurt you is more for your sake than theirs. Carson & Alice's story is good. The characters and the situation in this story are real and their actions/responses are relatable. There are a couple twist and some ooh/aah moments. This was a good read and I would recommend it.

Smiling

This is a magnificent book with many themes and issues resolved. Conquering poverty, rape, teen love and dishonor. Bloomed comfortable living, adult love, loving for the child produced by rape and honor. I liked the total story and I am anticipating reading "Duet on Fire" after "Wiley Brothers" and "Pryce Sisters" series. Applause for a good read!

Excellent read

Excellent read, I enjoyed the characters and storyline. Carson’s wife Alice was estranged from him for 10 years. She has returned for closure and to set Carson free. Alice had a traumatic experience 12years ago that altered her life. This is her journey to healing and everlasting love.

Alice and Carson

I was very satisfied with the work of this novelist. The novel was clean, and ugly. Ugly because of ugly and sinful ways of humanity. Struggling in relating to the title of the book, but each page was interesting. I appreciate her spending time on the lingering trauma to rape victims.

It was an amazing story. Time and time again church members put their trust in the minister instead of God, only to be betrayed and yet in a lot of cases sexual assaults on female members mostly go unpunished.
Speaking about is a start, even when it's fictional

t was a nice quick read. Ended up surprising me because it started out incredibly slow but then built up into a pretty good read. I ended up sympathizing with Alice after the secret was revealed. I had figured out 1/2 the secret but not properly identified the culprit.

Enjoyed

Great story of love and forgiveness. Loved Carson's love for Mia and the understanding he had for Alice. I was proud of Alice she knew she could not handle what happened to her but when the time was right and she was stronger she knew what she needed to do.

There's a bright side

Out of all bad there is always something good if you believe in God he won't allow you to hurt too long. You reap what you sow. Children don't ask to come here ,but they should be loved no matter how they got here.

It was an interesting read. I enjoyed the way the storyline went. Especially how they were always in each others thoughts and dreams. To the point of comparing other possible mates to them..

Good Story

Brenda always gets 5 stars for her stories from me. It was a good story of how love will always win. Carson's love and faith along with his acceptance and love for Mia who was not his biological child is so inspiring. I will continue the series.

Forgetting those things that are behind

Alice and Carson found each other when they were young and went through happiness and later pain. Mistakes were made, pain was caused but they found each other again. Great story.
