Between Danger and Desire

Lab technician Stephanie Alberts was terrified. A crazed killer was threatening her. He'd been in her house, he'd taken her daughter. He wanted her to falsify important DNA evidence - or else. Stephanie could comply with his demands...or she could do what she'd vowed never to do again.

She could trust a man.

Stephanie knew Detective Reid Peters was hell-bent on rescuing her child and keeping them both safe. But the stolen kisses between Stephanie and the sexy cop were a dangerous distraction. Dare she hope that he could offer her and her lonely little girl what they needed most?

Jessica S. Andersen is an American writer of mystery and medical romances. She obtained a PhD in Genetics, but when she finally settles on a single career, she will have been many things: a doctor of molecular genetics, a patent agent, a freelance editor, a professional horse trainer and riding coach, a fiance and the proud owner of a pair of corgis. But if you ask her who she is, Jessica will say, "I'm a writer. The rest is all background research."

Jessica lives in a smal farm in eastern Conneticut with her own personal hero, Brian, as well as the corgis, two cats and a handful of young horses, who she claims are investments but never seem to get sold.

For some reason I always turn to these little romance novels as a means of relief and a bit of light reading. However I am always surprised at myself when I do the eyeroll at the cliché storylines. Yet I still cannot stop picking these little gems up. Don’t get me wrong, some are better than others, and in this instance this one belongs in the others category.

The story is the usual silhouette plot. Desperate female who acts all tough, enter man who is terrified of commitment, add in a load of emotional trauma and a tonne of baggage, a spark and hey presto you have a short romance novel. This book boasts breathtaking romantic suspense but i’m feeling more underwhelming, desperate romance.

To be honest all romance novels are a little bit far fetched but this one is totally off key. The story is based around a kidnapping plot of the main character Stephanie’s daughter, Jilly. Now, I am not a mother as of yet, but you can be sure if anyone threatened to kidnap my child of even attempted it, there is no way in hell I would be conscious of the appearance of the people around me, no matter how good looking they may be. Who the hell gets horny amongst a life and death situation? The last thing I would be thinking of is hardening nipples in the presence of a handsome cop, quite honestly I would probably pee my pants if someone was leaving me freaky messages.

The story dragged for me, it did pick up a lot in the ending. The last three chapters probably saved it from 1 star into 2. I shall keep going with the series as I do like the continuity in these and the whole lab scene is quite clever. Lets hope the next one is a little bit more believable, even if it is a total cliché. That being said, I wonder when my prince charming is going to sweep me off my feet, these things can happen right?

Definitely a page turner.

Detective Reid Peters is called on his day off to help a friend Stephanie Alberts to find her missing daughter. Jilly Alberts, Steph's daughter was found at a park. Reid doesn't believe that the girl wandered off and starts looking for clues. A man on the phone threatens Stephanie to alter the DNA for a case that she has. It is a race to find the perp before he escalates and tries to harm Stephanie or Jilly. Will Stephanie trust her instincts and allow herself to fall for Reid despite her poor track record with men?

I was disappointed with this book. No matter what crisis was happening in the heroine's life, all she could think about was having her wicked way with the hero. e.g. her daughter is presumed kidnapped, she is attracted to the hero who's come to investigate; a bomb goes off in her lab, they take shelter under a table, and she's thinking about how close they are to one another while watching what she thinks might be hydrochloric acid spilling all over him. I ask you!

Couldn't stop til it was finished

Well written and has good action. Characters were complicated, but not overly detailed. The ending was almost anti-climactic. I look forward to reading more by her.
