Unsuspecting Valentine starts with an attractive tenderness and an all-consuming passion that is mind-blowingly fascinating. Waverly, our gorgeous, soft-hearted bookstore owner, represents every book lover's wildest fantasy: a small indie bookstore loaded with dark romance paperbacks, a masked author event on Valentine's Day, and an anonymous admirer with untamed obsessive energy burning behind the scenes. The plot is short yet brilliantly thought of, this left me trembling with anticipation as secrets are revealed one compelling layer at a time.
.
Waverly's gentleness contrasted with Garrett's horrific, immoral desire. D. Raven writes this short novella with a fascinating, obsessive pace that makes it impossible to put down. Every word comes alive with a burning heat, and each chapter is packed with mind-blowing chemistry and uncompromising tension. It's a fever dream of veiled identities, sexual desires, and devilish ambitions wrapped in a dark, alluring knot.
.
Garrett Barlowe, disguised, tattooed, and gloriously insane, represents the tormented, volatile, morally grey MMC we crave in our worst fantasies. He's a contradiction: fierce yet graceful, possessive yet calculated, insane but incredibly seductive. His love with Waverly is alarming and strangely thrilling, like getting caught in a carnal hurricane you don't want to get out of. His every step is charged with vicious tension, he writes an entire novel only to get near to her. It's mind-blowing in the most disturbingly dark way imaginable.
.
Waverly, on the other hand, is more than a passive doll in his dangerous game; she is lovely in her quiet strength, intriguing in her kindness, and relatable in her starry-eyed love of dark romance. She represents all of us, the bookworms who fantasize about wrapped, all-consuming partners while arranging indie author events and obsessing about book boyfriends. The chemistry between her and Garrett is hot, wicked, and steamy.
.
D. Raven's style is vibrant with a riveting fusion of charm, chaos, and beautiful desire. The structure is tight, the design is smooth, and the tone is incredibly provocative. This is an electric, possessive, masked-lust dream wrapped in a package of compulsive story. Unsuspecting Valentine is the novella that every BookTok-obsessed, ethically murky reader fantasizes about cuddling up with on Valentine's Day. It's spicy, twisted, and insane in the most interesting way, and it's a compelling, breathtaking pleasure that you'll want to finish in one sitting.

D. Raven's Unsuspecting Valentine is a quick, delicious, and highly entertaining book that instantly gripped me. Waverly, the charming owner of a small-town independent bookstore who also happens to be a book influencer, drew me in from the first page. I enjoyed how enthusiastic she is about books and her community, and I really admired how she supports new authors. The Valentine's Day book signing she's doing at her shop was a total dream! But, of course, what truly characterizes this book is the twist - the mysterious author she's been speaking with online for a year, well, he's not what she expected.
.
Garrett Barlowe is one of those characters who explodes right off the page. He's powerful, magnetic, slightly scary, and really intriguing. "I mean..." He wears a mask, writes dark romance behind a pen name, and has secrets that have made me gasp aloud several times. The connection between him and Waverly is incredible—it's passionate, complicated, and absolutely intriguing. However, there is a compassion to their relationship that I did not expect. Given all of the dark romance components (yes, there is obsession, stalking, and some pretty steamy sequences!), there is also a deep longing to be seen and understood, which I found very touching.
.
D. Raven's power to keep the plot moving swiftly and clearly while maintaining emotional depth was especially remarkable to me. You get the thrills and intensity of a dark romance, as well as moments of laughter, vulnerability, and connection. Waverly and Garrett's scenes together are electrifying, and the spice is obviously ramped up, yet it never feels too much. It is once graceful and wild. I read this book in one sitting, totally immersed in the plot. The writing is fast, gripping, and entertaining—ideal for times you want something bold, sexy, and completely unfiltered.

I am still blushing and kicking my feet just thinking about it. Unsuspecting Valentine is the kind of epic passionate romance that makes you forget about the actual world because all you want to do is crawl into the pages and live there forever.
.
Waverly is the sweetest book girl ever. She runs a gorgeous small indie bookstore called Lovelorn Books and is a total book influencer. I loved her so very much that she felt like one of us. Garrett, our main character, is a hidden, enigmatic, obsessed, possessive, stalker romance author who is secretly in love with her and has written an entire book only to be close to her. He made me scream into my pillow. He's dark, broody, and sexy in the most dangerous way possible, and I was really into it.
.
The spice in this book is a chef's kiss. It's so hot it'll melt your brain and heart. I literally fanned myself the whole time. The tension, chemistry, obsession—it's all so intense and so good. Garrett is the ideal tortured lover, with a possessive streak that makes you want to reread every scene just to feel it again.
.
I have no words for how addicted I was to every single word. This is a little book, but it hits like a full-length novel. Every page was on fire. Every moment was delightfully crazy in the greatest style possible. I need twenty more books like this because it filled a hole in my dark romance heart that I didn't even know existed. D. Raven slayed this. This story was absolute masterpiece, and I was living for it. If you're into masked males, stalker vibes, deadly passion, and obsessively passionate romance, this novel will definitely wreck you in the most wonderful way.

Unsuspecting Valentine by D. Raven is a passionate, provocative, and completely swoon-worthy dark romance that feels like a secret whispered directly into your soul.
.
Our FMC Waverly is a strongly passionate woman who runs Lovelorn Books, a small-town independent bookstore full of mystery, romance, and love. She is also a book influencer, which means she is intimately involved in the literary community and uses her voice to promote books and authors. But nothing could have prepared her for the real-life surprise that arrives on Valentine's Day: G. Barlowe, the elusive author with whom she has had an online acquaintance for over a year.
.
What happens next will have you hooked in all aspects of the word. G. Barlowe isn't the soft-spoken woman Waverly expected. Garrett is disguised, hidden, awfully tortured, and unapologetically fascinated with her. His intensity is astonishing. His desire is mindblowing. And their bond is passionate, attractive and tinged with a dark pull that is dangerous and delicious.
.
If you're looking for something brave, unexpected, and just the perfect amount of insane, Unsuspecting Valentine is a fantastic option. It's fascinating, humorous and absolutely addictive — and honestly, I wished I could be Waverly for a day simply to have that hidden author moment in real life. This one will definitely end up in my "fun, spicy, read-it-in-one-night" shelf. Add it to your Valentine's Day to-read list; you won't be disappointed!
