Save a horse, ride a cowboy, indeed.
Sparks fly between rodeo partners Henry and Ansel on a work trip in Vegas, after Henry catches his girlfriend cheating on him with a competitor and Ansel steps in to protect, comfort and distract Henry with an eye-opening, game changing night out at a local drag bar.
The relationship here is fast-moving, with broody Ansel’s year-long pining and sweet Henry’s eager bisexual-awakening exploding onto the page over the span of 24-delicious hours in Vegas.
The sex scenes were really well done, considering this story’s short page count. Henry and Ansel’s chemistry was exceptional and they shared such a gentle tenderness between them, it was all too easy to see how these men fit together so well and why the transition from friends and rodeo partners to lovers came all so naturally to them.
It was a perfect little snapshot of a few pivotal days in the lives of these hunky cowboys, with a romantic epilogue to swoon over. I admit though, I was left wanting more—more plot (before and after), more relationship development, more emotional stakes… simply more time with these really lovely characters.

The casual misogyny in the beginning had me off side from like page 3, and then this was just shit after that?
Cowboys for the sake of saying it's cowboys.
Man goes from calling the man he's about to put his dick in "KID"
To calling him Sweetheart.... Honestly not sure which I hate more.
"You wouldn't mind doing it again? You wouldn't mind me getting you off, huh, kid?"
I WOULDN'T MIND IF I WASN'T THINKING ABOUT KIDS RIGHT NOW SIR.
This is in first person, so I get it... BUT THE AMOUNT OF SENTENCES THAT STARTED WITH "i" WAS AN ACTUAL JOKE?
I try to ease up again.
I feel is body tense.
I find some strength.
I use him like I would have only dreamed of using a woman. - real sentence, felt ick.
I gasp.
I open my eyes.
I don't want to see him stare at me.
I want him to join me.
Ugh whatever
Even for a novella, I still want them to have substance.
Also the man goes from straight and being cheated on to being into men in like 3 hours. wut?
"You wanna be hanhandled?" - said by experience (im assuming older, from the use of 'kid') gay man.
"Only by you" - man who was straight until 3 hours ago, and has never been mandhandled.

The best part is... that it's a novella so it's over quickly.
This book just gave me weird vibes... like it was written because MM is seen as... cool or something?
It just felt like it didn't come from a place of love, it came from a... lets make cowboys fuck, because that will sell and make money and it was kinda weird.

DELICIOUS and SPICY, I absolutely loved this COWBOY M/M ROMANCE! This was a very quick novella with only 95 pages, and 1 great love story! The story follows Henry Sky’s first trip to Vegas Redo isn’t going exactly to plan as his girlfriend dumps him for another man. But the only one who knows how to distract him is his roping partner, Ansel Cartridge. He big, and handsome, and can’t get Henry out of his head. Together they’ll explore the city of Vegas, and themselves, because “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” Would definitely recommend to those who love M/M COWBOY ROMANCES!

For a very short novella it was pretty darn good and nice spice! Took one star away just cause the end and jump was really severe even for a novella. Felt it could have been done a bit better even with just 10-15 pages.

Hey I loved this! Many thanks to @patrícia for putting it on my radar! I wish only that it had been more fleshed out and shown the roping competition/the MCs' skills and competence and joy of riding their actual horses, there wasn't ANY of that, which...author, that is a loss.
But what's here is lovely! MC Henry's reeling from walking in on his gf cheating with a playboy rodeo rider. Who steps up to comfort him/get him out of the spotlight? His talented rodeo roping partner, Ansel. And when Ansel takes him somewhere no one will hassle them, Henry starts looking around, and LOOKING around...and realizing he's never felt so comforted and safe and...something...as he does when Ansel's there with him. And ooooh, Ansel's been pining...! I loved the pining. The disbelief that this could really be happening...
Bi-awakening locked! Throw in a crowd of drag queens and accepting friends (I mean, for rodeo, this was idealized, the only fly in the ointment is the playboy character...TW for slurs), and this was just one delightful fall into joy and love. Save a horse, ride a cowboy indeed.

BAREBACK was hot, there are 2 other novellas availible. One looks like an MF primal play story and the other is a WW Sapphic revenge? Barnes seems very multi-genre! But they sure as hell can write a cowboy story, and honestly, I AM HERE FOR IT.
I loved Henry and Ansel. My only issue was it was 96 pages. I could have happily read 400.

BAREBACK was hot, there are 2 other novellas availible. One looks like an MF primal play story and the other is a WW Sapphic revenge? Barnes seems very multi-genre! But they sure as hell can write a cowboy story, and honestly, I AM HERE FOR IT.
I loved Henry and Ansel. My only issue was it was 96 pages. I could have happily read 400.

This was such a cute and spicy little read—short enough to fly through but packed with so much charm. Ansel completely stole my heart. He’s the perfect gentle giant with a streak of heat, melting the second Henry says, please. I loved how he wanted to protect Henry, even while guarding his own heart.
The pacing felt just right, especially with the epilogue flashing forward a year to their wedding—it gave the romance an extra dose of sweetness and closure. Henry’s longing to be loved and cherished for exactly who he is hit me right in the feels, and Ansel’s fear of being a regret or one-off made their journey toward love even more precious.
If you’re craving a quick fix of dirty-talking cowboys, humor, and genuine passion, this novella absolutely delivers.

Bareback is more smut than plot.
It's an okay book but it just wasn't for me. I really wanted some cowboy elements and there was really no cowboy anything. It's only a cowboy romance because they are both roping partners. The whole story did take place over a few days in Vegas so there wasn't really a plot and now thinking about it, maybe there wasn't space for it but either way, I enjoyed the smut very much. They scenes were very well written. I would have liked to have known Henry's age. Ansel kept calling him kid so was there an age gap?

I can't even begin to express how freaking good this story was.
When I saw that it was 88 pages, I settled in for a quick, smutty read.
But holy heck, was I surprised.
This story is FILLED with emotion, character development, angst, and swoon worthy lines.
It is absolutely PACKED with delicious scenes of discovery and love, and I was desperate for more!!
I would read an entire series about these two.
I really hope DR Barnes keeps putting out amazing work like this, because I am HERE for it!!

This novella came highly recommended by Bookstagram! The author was unknown to me, but that was just another reason to see what was up!
It was a fun and very fast read that was spice heavy and plot light. It is perfect for reading in-between books or as a last minute download to kill time.

New author to me and I was pleasantly surprised! This is a great cowboy MM read - with one who is gay (although not necessarily openly) and his rodeo partner - Henry - who is younger and "straight." Henry is dating a woman until he finds her in bed with the hotshot rodeo king. That relationship coming to an end, he finds comfort and friendship in his work partner.
