Secrets in Texas

Rate this book
After the wreck of her marriage, Detective Angel Harrison swore no man would ever control her again. Then she had to infiltrate a dangerous cult, and pretending to be a submissive wife was the only way in. Even worse, her new "husband" quickly aroused feelings ignored for too long.

Matt Stone had escaped Zion's Gate, but concern for the sister left behind had him agreeing to the cops' plan to return. Angel was good at playing the subservient wife--so good that he began to worry when the rebellious glint in her eye started to fade. After all, he'd been hoping for a permanent partnership. Assuming, of course, they made it out alive.

The premise of this book was interesting with hero Matthew and heroine Angel posing as a married couple to infiltrate a polygamous sect, Zion's Gate. Matthew is there to get his sister out. His crazy uncle is the leader. Angel is there to see if weapon and drug smuggling is going on. The story was good, but I'd have liked to have seen more time spent out and about the compound instead of in the house Angel and Matthew were staying at with Matthew's aunt. Still, it was a good enough read with likable characters and it was definitely different for a Superromance.

Another High School read. I enjoyed the characters. I love a strong female lead. Angel rose from the ashes of an abusive relationship to rebuild her life. She is sent into a compound to investigate drug and arms smuggling. Angel basically has to live out her nightmare where she has to play the subservient wife. A role she never wanted to play again. It is a romance so cliques were expected and I only read HEA so I was happy with the ending even though it was predictable.

Surprisingly poignant for a harlequinrom romance and completely, refreshingly clean. Many psychological levels with a promise of redemption, healing and hope!
