My latest series is Dr. Angelica Mortmain novels, a heart-pounding medical action thriller with a white-hot central romance, and it starts with LETHAL TREATMENT, out NOW!
Forget the romance, way too many dead bodies for me.
Dead lovers, dead kids. Dead...dead... dead. The deal breaker was the random OW that gets her eye poked out by a very unhappy cheated upon wife. Graphic and gross. 🤢
Laura Burnside is a good doctor and is frustrated that her efforts in Argentina are falling short. Her leadership in the GAO (Global Aid Organization) mission has been taken over by Armando Salazar, director and founder of La Clinica, a revolutionary medical center quickly becoming the heart of Argentina's health care system. Laura had met Armando's cousin, Diego a year before when he'd been in the US recruiting for La Clinica, and they'd gotten to know each other over the internet. Through Deigo's passionate emails, Laura fell in love, both with the man and with the mission. Only when she arrived, their love affair quickly turned bitter as it became obvious that Deigo had manipulated her for a wealth he mistakenly believed she had. Laura also couldn't get past her instant and intense attraction to Armando, everything she thought Diego was Armando is. Several weeks after Laura breaks off her relationship with Diego, they have a heated argument and Diego’s reckless driving causes his death and Laura’s very serious injury and the discovery that Laura is two month’s pregnant. Laura views her only choice is to leave Argentina where an unwed mother would be ridiculed and her child looked down upon. But Armando has deep hidden feelings for Laura and he refuses to let her go, so he offers her marriage using the excuse that she is carrying his cousin’s child and who better to be it’s father.
This is a fast paced, intensely emotional love story. Ms. Gates never fails to put me on the edge of my seat with tension filled action, witty and charged dialogue, and sizzling chemistry. Armando and Laura get to know each other through their work which moves from one crisis to another; from medical emergencies to the challenges of nature. It takes a chapter or two to get used to Ms. Gates style of rapid switching from hero to heroine point of view, but I love it! Her stories are always so vivid that I can see them in my mind as movies and I can feel the emotions as if I knew the characters personally. And as always, Armando is so devastatingly appealing that I was in a constant state of drool

Another book by Olivia Gates that takes you into another country and culture and teaches you so much about both within the framework of a burning hot romance. Armando is not only an alpha hunk, he is an incredible human being and humanitarian, and what we learn about Argentina in a time of upheaval is eye-opening and heart-wrenching. This is an incredible book I think should be a bestseller. But it's not even available to be purchased. Really, what's up with that? I think I'll write the publisher and demand that those early medical dramas by Olivia Gates are re-published and this time in formats and with titles and covers to befit the incredible stories within.
Definitely not my favorite book by this author, or by this Harlequin line, but I enjoyed reading it. It taught you a lot about the medical hardship in other cultures. I felt the connection between Laura & Armando was stretched and I just didn't feel the attraction there to any great degree.
Dr. Laura Burnside went to Argentina chasing her dream job to be head of Global Aid Organization there. Unfortunately, she was pushed aside and Dr. Armando Salazar is in charge instead. Now she's having to work under him, put up with his attitude, and to top it all off, she finds out she's pregnant when the father is already gone from her life!
Armando has worked hard to put together a great hospital to help the area and has many employees who are loyal to his vision. Laura is faced with a medical crisis, and as she recovers, he uses the time to re-connect with her about her feelings on the job and how they can incorporate their teams together more. When he blows her away with a marriage proposal and the wish that she stay in Argentina with him, will she accept?
