Despite a few slow sections, the book's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. I found it to be a highly interesting and enjoyable read, solid 4.5 out of 5 star read for me.

What starts as a dream turns into a nightmare you can’t wake up from.

Shruti lives a quiet life with her friend Meena, working from home. But everything changes when she starts having intense dreams so real that they feel like memories. One day, her colleague Vedha visits, and Shruti tells her a disturbing story: a girl named Maya, possessed by something sinister, killed her roommate Keerthi before ending her own life.
But here’s where the mystery deepens Shruti believes she read this story somewhere, yet there’s no trace of it online. What follows is a gripping psychological spiral. Was it just a dream? A forgotten past? Or something more terrifying?
The final chapter leaves your heart racing a woman named Arohi is convicted for using forbidden hypnosis to manipulate people into murder. The truth? It was never just a story.

" Her brow furrowed as she said stared, ' Is there anything under the pond?"
.
What will you do if the pond starts talking to you? What wish will you ask to the pond if it offers you to fullfill it?.
.
What will you do if you seen the mirror one day at antique shop & it starts appearing in your dreams? You are transporting again & again to that shop?
.
If i ask you if the dreams you are seeing turning true & it becoming difficult for you to differentiate between dreams & reality how do you gonna react?.
.
You're now wondering right....????
I also started pondering on the same questions while reading " Lucid Lies".

" What happens when your dreams refuses to stay in your head?" This very first line of the book description made me curious abt the plot. I read and unfold its unique plot. Shruti's life in Banglore becomes hell as she is seeing weird dreams & all her dreams are haunting her making her insane. Whatever she is seeing it happening in her real life. She wanted to know the truth what and why all these happeing to her. The pond, the mirror and the dreams all these things has started disturbing her. She was repeatedly dragged into the web of errie things.
.
I liked the unique plot of the author. I loved the writing style the rich vocabulary & the idea that author has choosen as the main theme. Little i felt in the begnning as author has streched the topic at some point it made me feel low paced. But later I thought it linked to the further things in the story so I think may be that's what he thought while writing at that time.
.
I will highly recommend you all to pick this book up. Its really unique & excellent. I congratulate the author for his first book. I hope to see more good books written by you in near future. Good luck.

I just finished reading this book and I'm still reeling from the experience! The book's unique plot had me hooked from the very beginning. The story revolves around a girl named Shruti, whose life in Bangalore turns into a living hell as she starts having very weird dreams that refuse to stay in her head. I loved how the author wove together elements of suspense, thriller, and psychology to create a narrative that's both gripping and thought-provoking.
As I delved into the world of Lucid Lies, I found myself pondering the most unsettling questions. What if the most ordinary objects held extraordinary secrets? What if the pond in your backyard began to whisper its deepest mysteries to you? What wish would you dare to ask of it, and would you be prepared for the consequences?
Or, imagine stumbling upon an antique mirror in a dusty shop, only to have it haunt your dreams and transport you back to that very same store. The lines between reality and fantasy would blur, leaving you questioning what's real and what's just a dream. The more I read, the more I realized that the truth is not always what it seems. I've never read something like this before.

What I appreciated most about the book is its ability to keep me on the edge of my seat. I wasn't able to keep the book down, I finished this book in just two sitting. It was truly fast paced and interesting. The writing style is engaging, and the rich vocabulary adds depth to the story. The pacing is well-balanced, with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end. The moment you think you've guessed the plot, another plot twist jumps in, changing everything. You'll think you already know what's going to happen or that you've figured out the characters, but actually, you know nothing. The way the story will shift your perspective and leave you shocked is fantastic. It's way more complex and surprising than you ever thought possible.
I also appreciated how the author explored themes of psychological tension, making Shruti's descent into doubt and paranoia feel eerily real. It was something unique to read. I didn't expect this book to turn out this good. But omg! It was incredibly awesome.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to the  fans of psychological thrillers. The book's ability to blur the lines between dreams and reality is both fascinating and unsettling. With its gripping storytelling and thought-provoking themes, this is a solid pick for anyone looking for a book that'll keep them up all night. It's a must read book recommendation and I'm eagerly waiting for the next part.

I'm still in shock from the experience of reading this book, which I just finished! I was immediately engrossed in the novel because of its original plot. The protagonist of the tale is a girl named Shruti, whose life in Bangalore becomes a living hell once she begins to have strange dreams that won't go away. I admired how the author combined psychology, mystery, and suspense to produce an engaging and thought-provoking story.

I started thinking about the most disturbing questions as I dug deeper into the realm of Lucid Lies. What if the most commonplace items have remarkable secrets? What if your backyard pond started to reveal its most profound secrets to you? Would you dare to ask it for anything, and would you be ready to face the repercussions? Or picture discovering an old mirror in a dusty store, only to have it return you to that exact place in your dreams. You would be left wondering what is real and what is only a dream since the boundaries between reality and fiction would become hazy. I became increasingly aware that the truth is not always as it seems as I read more.

The book's capacity to keep me on the edge of my seat was what I valued most about it. I finished this book in two sittings because I couldn't put it down. It was really fascinating and fast-paced. The plot is given depth by the rich vocabulary and captivating writing style. You are kept guessing right up until the very end by the well-balanced pacing and unexpected developments. As soon as you believe you have figured out the narrative, another plot twist occurs, altering everything. You will believe that you already know what will happen or that you have a firm grasp on the personalities, but in reality, you have no idea.

It's amazing how the story will change your viewpoint and leave you in disbelief. It's far more intricate and unexpected than you ever imagined. Additionally, I liked how the author examined psychological strain, giving Shruti's decline into uncertainty and anxiety a spooky sense of realism. It was a novel experience to read.

Lucid lies

A gripping dive into the blurred lines between dream and reality.

Sometimes the most haunting mysteries are the ones that live quietly within us(in a way it marks us)— creeping into our thoughts, blurring what’s real and what isn’t. This is the unsettling terrain Shruti is forced to navigate in The Answers Within Life: Raw and Unfiltered, a psychological thriller that twists the ordinary into something deeply eerie and unexpected.
It's easily a fun read because of the psychological elements.

Set against the moody backdrop of Bangalore, Shruti’s seemingly normal life is shaken when her intense dreams begin seeping into her everyday reality. What begins as unsettling déjà vu soon morphs into a gripping mystery, layered with psychological tension(which is a must- the tension!) and subtle supernatural threads. Is Shruti losing her grip on reality—or is she awakening to something far more disturbing?

Shyam Babu’s storytelling stands out for its slow burn suspense and the way he paints dream sequences with vivid, symbolic detail. The writing pulls you in—never overly flashy, but richly atmospheric and emotionally resonant. Just when you begin to feel steady, the plot takes a sharp turn, forcing you to question everything you thought you understood.

Though the opening chapters take their time to build momentum, the payoff is worth it. The plot thickens with clever reveals and an unnerving mood that lingers. A promising debut that blends psychological depth with a touch of the supernatural, this book will stay with readers who enjoy thrillers that get under the skin rather than just on the surface.

A Psychological Thriller That’ll Mess With Your Head (In a Good Way)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shyam Babu’s debut? Man, it grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. Picture this: Bangalore, weird dreams, and reality doing backflips. Shruti, an engineer just trying to get by, suddenly can’t tell if she’s awake or still stuck in some messed-up nightmare. And then—bam—her own name floats from dreamland to someone’s lips in real life. That’s the kind of thing that makes you want to sleep with the lights on.

But look, it’s not just some run-of-the-mill thriller with a few jump scares. Nah. This one digs into all the good stuff—fragile identities, the weirdness of memory, trauma that doesn’t stay buried. Babu’s got this knack for making shadows feel like they’re about to sprout legs. Sometimes the story drags its feet, sure, but then it’ll punch you with a reveal you didn’t see coming. Keeps you guessing, maybe a little too long, but honestly, isn’t that half the fun?

There’s hypnosis, there’s self-doubt, and honestly, at some point you’re not even sure what’s real anymore. Shruti’s world sort of folds in on itself, and you’re right there with her, questioning everything. Babu’s writing? It’s eerie—like poetry that decided to haunt your dreams for a while. And the ending? No spoilers, but let’s just say it sticks with you. Like, you’ll be brushing your teeth and suddenly remember a line and get goosebumps.

So yeah, if you’re into thrillers that mess with your mind and leave you second-guessing every shadow in your room, this one’s a solid pick. Just… maybe don’t read it right before bed.

What if your dreams start meddling with your reality to the extent where it is difficult to separate the two?

Shruti is a simple girl-next-door kind of a girl. She and her friend Menna live together and work in Bengaluru. School friends , they are inseparable and take care of each other. Suddenly , one day Shruti starts getting vivid and realistic dreams which linger in her subconscious long after she wakes up. The clarity of the dreams and their impact on Shruti , blurs the line between reality and dream world for her. But what is the reason for these dreams and what is causing these nightmares to become more and more realistic?

The story is a contemporary tale with a paranormal theme. The story brings together real believable characters with supernatural plot. Dreams so realistic that one cannot differentiate them from reality is an intriguing theme.

The descriptions of the dreams along with the spooky and eerie undertones will give the reader goosebumps. The simple narration and the suspense behind the dreams makes this a binge read. The mystery around the growing intrusive dreams in Shruti’s life will keep the reader hooked.

All the characters of the story are believable and relatable. Their confusion , their fear and the quest to unveil the truth is all narrated nicely.

The writing does feel a bit lacking at places. But the mystery behind the occurrences won’t let the reader lose the attention.

It is a good read for the fans of the genre or those who want to experience something spooky without feeling overwhelmed.

"Lucid Lies" by author Shyam Babu is a fascinating psychological thriller that explores themes of truth, perception, and deception, with dreams blurring the lines between reality and illusion.

The main character, Shruti, works in Bangalore and shares a flat with her school friend, Meena. Shruti experiences terrifying dreams that become part of her reality. Whatever she sees in her dreams, she can feel and experience in her real life, both physically and emotionally.

Shruti has many dreams, including one in which she receives a letter containing a photocopy of an old photograph of a vintage book that she had seen in her dream.

When she can no longer manage her experiences, she shares everything with her friend Meena, who takes her to meet Dr. Anika. How will Shruti's life move forward? Will Dr. Anika be able to help her, or will her dreams continue to haunt her?

I appreciate author Shyam Babu for his commendable storytelling, well-paced narration, and vivid descriptions. Each of Shruti's dreams is described so well that they feel real. The tension and suspense are maintained until the end, and the twists keep readers hooked. Every time I tried to guess the outcome, the novel took another unexpected turn. I also want to mention that I really liked the cover of the book.

"Lucid Lies" is definitely a must-read for fans of thrillers with suspenseful plot and supernatural elements. The twists and mystery will make you fall in love with the story.

"Lucid Lies" is the tale of Shruti, a young woman who relocates to Bangalore in search of a flawless new life. Her dreams soon become vivid nightmares, though, that begin to spill over into her waking world. As she tries to make sense of these disturbing experiences, Shruti is confronted by a horrifying question: Are these nightmares mere products of her imagination, or something much more sinister? The story gets more interesting as she sets out to find the truth before it catches up with her.

Shruti is a well-developed character whose emotional complexity and strength are felt throughout the novel. Her transformation from an innocent newcomer to a resolute seeker of truth is compelling and realistic. The secondary characters, with their own depth and subplots, add texture to the narrative, each contributing to the tension and intrigue propelling the story forward.

Shyam Babu is a good storyteller with a suspenseful and interesting writing style. The use of vivid language to describe Shruti's nightmares sets an unsettling mood that has readers on edge. Babu's skill in blurring reality and illusion only serves to build tension, keeping the reader wondering what is real and what is not.

I would strongly suggest "Lucid Lies" to anyone who likes suspenseful, brain-twisting tales. Shyam Babu's first novel is an edge-of-your-seat page-turner from beginning to end, and it will keep you captivated until the final page.

The distinction between dreams and reality is expertly blurred in Shyam Babu's eerily captivating psychological thriller Lucid Lies. The plot, which is set in the urban setting of Bangalore, centers on Shruti, a young woman whose seemingly ordinary existence takes a turn for the worse as her vivid dreams start to materialize in her everyday life. What begins as frightening nightmares swiftly transforms into a psychological maze that defies reality, leaving the reader and Shruti wondering what is real and what isn't.

The evocative tale and skillfully written suspense are what distinguish this book. The entire feeling of dread is heightened by the dream sequences, which are vivid, creepy, and exquisitely unnerving. An old story, a mirrored pond, and the enigmatic mirror are all deftly incorporated into the story to provide complexity and interest. The final twist is gratifying and surprising.

My favorite character is Shruti herself because she is an intriguing and relatable protagonist due to her sensitivity, developing paranoia, and urgent drive to discover the truth.

For those who enjoy psychological thrillers, I heartily suggest Lucid Lies. This first book is a must-read if you like novels that delve into the subconscious, warp reality, and leave you pondering long after you've turned the last page. Shyam Babu provides a terrifying, dramatic experience.

Sometimes, the scariest mysteries aren’t the ones that happen around us, but the ones that unfold inside our own minds. This book taps into this unsettling truth with remarkable finesse, drawing readers into a world where dreams bleed into reality and nothing can be trusted, not even your own thoughts.

Set in the vibrant yet shadowy city of Bangalore, the novel follows Shruti, a young woman whose ordinary life takes a chilling turn when her vivid dreams begin to manifest in her waking world. As she struggles to make sense of these eerie overlaps, she’s pulled into a deeper mystery, one that’s as psychological as it is supernatural.

What sets this book apart is its immersive storytelling. The author skillfully builds tension through haunting imagery and smart pacing, keeping the reader engaged and guessing at every turn. Just when you think you’ve caught the thread, the plot shifts, throwing your assumptions off balance.

The dream sequences are particularly well-done — evocative, unnerving, and rich in symbolism. Though the story starts a bit slowly, it pays off as the narrative unfolds with clever twists and a deeply atmospheric tone. A gripping debut that lingers long after the last page, this book is a rewarding read for anyone who loves thrillers that mess with the mind.

"𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐬 – 𝐀 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝-𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐖𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐖𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐔𝐩 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦🎭💭
Ever had a dream so 'real' that waking up felt like the actual illusion? That’s exactly where Shyam Babu takes you in "Lucid Lies"! Meet Shruthi—smart, ambitious, and utterly 'bamboozled' when her life takes a detour into the 'Twilight Zone'. With hypnosis, an ancient book, and a mysterious mirror in play, reality becomes one giant question mark. Who’s real? Who’s not? And why does every twist feel like a 'trap'? By the time you hit the final chapters, you’ll hear a little voice whispering, "Arrr matey," in your head—and trust me, it’ll haunt you for long.☠️📖

𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 & 𝐔𝐏𝐈 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 💸
One of the best things about this book? The insane level of detail! The author—being a software engineer—doesn’t 'miss' a beat. Case in point? Shruthi paying for an auto ride via UPI instead of fumbling for change. Talk about 'realism'! But just when you’re cozying up to the story, BAM—reality 'glitches', and you’re thrown into another mind-bending dream sequence. And that Arjun moment in Chapter 3? 'Total mic-drop. 🎤💥

𝐀 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝-𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠!🎢🧠
The characters—Shruti, Meena, Divakar, Dr. Anika, and Arohi—are like a well-mixed cocktail of real, human vibes. 🥂 The way the author dives into neurological themes? You can practically feel the brainpower that went into it! 🧠💥

𝐀 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝-𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐬 🚀🌀
The storytelling? Engaging. The plot twists? Wild. The vocabulary? Could use a little more finesse. But hey, when a book messes with your head this 'brilliantly', who’s complaining? With Shruthi’s confusion becoming 'your' confusion, and surprises lurking around every corner. The thrills are so intense, you’ll be gripping your seat like it’s a rollercoaster—no joke, you might even fall off the edge! 🎢 And the ending? Oh boy, you’ll have to read the last sentences twice (or maybe thrice) to fully grasp the twisty magic.

"Lucid Lies" is one psychological thriller that stays with you. And if that pirate phrase ever slips into your thoughts, don’t say I didn’t warn you. 'Arrr matey!' ☠️💀📚

'Lucid Lies' by Shyam Babu is a story of Shruti and her strange dream.

Her new phase of life in Bangalore was supposed to be perfect but her dream that's vivid and strange is too real to ignore. Every time she sees the dream she feels as if it's a part of her life. The creepy setup keeps her disturbed and tensed all the time. At first, she ignored it, but later, when the situation worsened, she decided to share it with her friend and doctor so that she could understand what was happening to her. When the doctor told her the reality of her dreams, she was left dumbstruck. Many secrets came out that made sense and cleared many doubts about her situation. It was a deep, burnt truth that came to life.

How did it happen? What was the secret? And why was she seeing those dreams?

The story is full of suspense; the book cover, the ancient mirror, and every other minute detail played a very crucial role in making it a good story. The characters also played great support for the plot. The suspense was maintained till the end and the complete read was a shocker.

If you love psychological thrillers, this read is for you.

Imagine this scenario,
You not being able to differentiate between your dreams and reality? You do not know if the things happening in your life are actually happening or just dreams?
Sounds super scary right? This is exactly what happened in Shruti. Her life was all good- her job, her home and especially with her best friend Meena by her side, she couldn't have asked for a better life. Things take a turn when she stumbles upon a mirror- a reflection and then all she knew was that her dreams refused to stay inside her head.
Personally, the book managed to creep me out. More than horror, it was psychological, and being a huge fan of such thrillers, I was invested in the book.
Amidst all the mind games happening to Shruti, i admit that I was still a bit jealous of her only because of her friendship with Meena (literally THE BEST friend) and of course, her brother Divakar. I also liked how sympathetic & smart Dr. Anika - the psychiatrist is.
I also got to learn a few neurology related practises and terms!
Would highly recommend this book to people trying to get out of a reading slump and to those who love psychological thrillers!!

Lucid lies by Shyam Babu is a gripping and mind blowing psychological thriller that kept me on the edge until the very end. From the first chapter, I felt pulled into Shruti’s world, where her nightmares start leaking into real life. It’s the kind of book that makes you glance over your shoulder, just to check if your world is still normal.

Shruti’s life in Bangalore turns into a puzzle she can’t solve. A pond whispers secrets, a mirror from an antique shop haunts her dreams, and suddenly, she’s stuck in a loop of fear and confusion. The author's vivid descriptions deeply captivated me. At first, the story felt a bit slow, like it was building up quietly, but once the twists kicked in, I couldn’t stop reading. Every chapter left me guessing, “What’s next?!”

What surprised me most was how real Shruti’s panic felt. The mix of suspense and psychology is perfect. It’s not just about scares; it’s about how the mind can trick you.

This is incredibly well-written, with a unique plot and mind blowing twists. If you love stories that twist reality, make you question everything, and keep you up way past bedtime, 'Lucid Lies' is a must-read.

You know when you wake up from a dream, and for a few seconds, you forget if it actually occurred? This is the realm of Lucid Lies. This is an experience, not just a story. This is an experience that will toy with your senses and make you question everything you think you know.

Shyam Babu takes you into a world where reality is slippery, like water running through your fingers. You are convinced of one way of looking at something one minute, and the next minute, you realize you have been looking at it completely wrong. This is so eerie and so beautiful and just unsettling enough to keep the pages turning long after your midnight bedtime.

The writing will drape over you like a forest fog—serene and still at first, hiding whatever accelerates your heartbeat in a shocking second when you really see it for the first time. Each chapter is a reflection, but not every reflection is accurate.

If you love books that play tricks on your mind, obliterate the boundary between reality and dreams, and not make the last page until you have no idea where the entire book went, then Lucid Lies is about to become the next book on your obsession list.

Ever had a dream that felt so real? A dream that makes you doubt? I've had sleep paralysis for a long time and it is scary, it seems so real but it happens to be a dream but then you wake up tired and exhausted yet it seems like a bad dream happening in real life where you were not conscious of the entire thing. Dreams can be terrifying at times.

"Lucid Lies" by Shyam Babu is one interesting book where the protagonist is lost somewhere between her dreams and reality. We all know hypnosis right? What if someone hypnotised you? What happens when you start to doubt the people around you? When your head starts to mess with you so much that you become deluded and lose sight of where to draw the line between reality and dreams?

The plot of the book is exceptional and mind gripping, and the fusion of an ancient tale, a book and an ancient mirror makes it even better.

The book is a mixture of thrilling dreams that allures you completely and keeps you hooked to it. What do you do when your dreams become so real that it becomes your reality?

The book narrates the unique experiences of a woman working in corporate while freelancing as a content writer.
Shruti shares an apartment in Bangalore with her childhood best friend Meena, who has been with her through thick and thin.

Lately, she's been having these weird fantastical dreams that feel so vivid and linger in her memory for days.
Increasingly getting disturbed, she grapples with her sanity as common experiences get blended into that mix.

Meena, ever the caring friend, takes her friend for medical help with the capable psychiatrist Dr. Anika, who diagnoses Shruti's worsening condition over multiple sessions.
Though strange artifacts accompany her.
Is this a deliberate action by someone sinister?

Along with Shruti's brother, Diwakar, the trio tries to get to the crux of the matter.
What is this mystery before it spirals out of hand?
Are our memories truly reliable?
What about trust when deeper motives are involved?

My thoughts:
•This tale will challenge the imagination of the reader with beautifully described scenes of incredible landscapes, bordering on gothic aesthetics.
•The writing is elegant, almost poetic, while weaving factual processes and fictional myths into an intriguing plot.
•The side characters are introduced gradually, which is a plus.
•The story has a cliffhanger, where the antagonist is planning something even bigger (or has simply lost her mind).
Moral: Never trust thy neighbor blindly🥤

Imagine the unsettling feeling of someone lurking in your mind, twisting your thoughts, and blurring the line between reality and illusion. This psychological thriller follows Shruti, a girl from Bangalore, who experiences just that—an eerie presence messing with her head. The story is packed with gripping moments, keeping you on edge as multiple events unfold simultaneously.

The writing is fast-paced, which is essential for a psychological thriller. A slow or incoherent plot can ruin the suspense, but this book maintains a gripping flow, making it an intense and immersive read. I was surprised to learn this was a debut novel, as the storytelling feels compelling and well-structured. While the character sketches are informative, they lack deep exploration, which could have added more emotional depth.

This book is a great pick for beginners looking to dive into the thriller genre. However, if you’re a seasoned thriller reader, you might predict some twists. That said, it’s still worth a read—you won’t regret picking it up!

"lucid lies"
Lucid Lies by Shyam Babu is a gripping psychological thriller that blurs the line between dreams and reality, keeping you hooked from start to finish.

Set in Bangalore, the story follows Shruti, whose life takes a dark turn as her vivid dreams start bleeding into her waking world. As she searches for answers, she spirals into paranoia, questioning what is real and what exists only in her mind.

The book excels in creating an eerie atmosphere with unsettling dream sequences and unexpected twists. The use of mirrors, the pond, and Shruti’s growing paranoia adds layers of mystery, making the suspense even more intense. While the pacing slows at times, it builds up to a mind-blowing ending that makes the journey worthwhile.

Overall, Lucid Lies is a fantastic debut that plays with perception and fear. I’m giving it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) because while it’s an engaging read, a slightly tighter narrative would have made it even more compelling. Highly recommended for fans of psychological thrillers!
