A group of billionaires face the ultimate reckoning in this twisty psychological thriller.
When the adult children of five billionaires are abducted by a shadowy group, their parents face an unthinkable ultimatum: pay the highest price or lose their loved ones forever. But as fortunes crumble and alliances fracture, secrets rise to the surface.
On a remote island prison, the hostages are pushed to their limits while the manipulative mastermind pulls the strings. Time is running out, and the stakes are higher than anyone could have imagined.
How far would you go to save your child? What price would you be willing to pay?
Danny Dagan is a law school graduate and web expert who always preferred writing fiction. After a corporate career in London, he moved to Northumberland, where he finally found his perfect writing spot: a garden shed with views of the sea and a castle.
Danny writes fast-paced, twisty thrillers that often touch on social issues.
I love a twisty thriller that makes you question your own sense of morality and this book certainly did that! This is a fast-paced, story full of twists and turns... that ending!
We follow a group of very rich people who have had their children kidnapped. They are prepared for ransom demands after all isn’t that to be expected? However, it soon becomes clear that if they want to see their children alive again, they will need to do much better than that!
I loved the range of characters we get to know within the story, some truly unlikable and others that had me hoping they would get out of the terrible situation they were in. I thought the author did a great job with character development despite the quick pacing.
The author skilfully manages to get you thinking about modern society and political agendas... quite apt for current times. Is it right that a handful of people have all the wealth whist others have nothing? How far would you go to make things more balanced? A truly great read that was both entertaining and thought-provoking. I highly recommend if you like high stakes thrillers with some twisted demands!

The Game by Danny Dagan is a fast-paced debut that’s impossible to put down. A quick, fun read that easily earns all five stars.
Five kids - all from billionaire families - are kidnapped by a group of vigilantes who purport themselves as modern-day Robin Hoods.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞: Heir Loss
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬: It’s simple - play the game. Win, and your child comes home safe and sound. Lose, and… well, they still come back, but in a coffin.
Oh, what a fun read this was! I fully enjoyed it. There are twists, turns, and secrets around every corner. The plot keeps you entertained while also maintaining a steady undercurrent of suspense - you truly never know what’s going to happen next.
𝕄𝕖𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖: 😂 “Why are you dressed like a nun?” “Survivalist stripper” “Uber submarine” “Masculine poor judgment” Still laughing.
The story alternates between the perspectives of the five “kids” (really adults in their late 20s) trapped on a private island, and their parents, who have gathered at an estate to play the game and to try to find a way to rescue their children.
Each character adds something special to the story. All of them went to school together, which raises the question: why these five? Why were they chosen?
I do wish there had been more games - and that they’d been a little more brutal. A bit more action wouldn’t have hurt, either. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the ending was absolutely perfect.
I listened to the audiobook while following along and would recommend both formats. The narrator did a fantastic job capturing each character’s voice.
Set in the UK, five people from rich families are kidnapped and held for ransom. It’s not a normal ransom but up to the families to determine how much to pay and the ransom would be sent to charities with the kidnappers not taking a cut. The kidnapped have no idea what their families are doing. It’s a great test of how much would you do for your kids but not lose too much of your wealth. For some losing their wealth impacted their companies and employees.
What drew me to the book is the cover. Dark and mysterious with an island, I knew it is book I would enjoy. There are several POV from the kidnapped to the families and also the government. One of my favorite views was the government as it’s a view you don’t normally see. The book is full of twists and surprises. I loved this book and will definitely read more by this author!
I chose this book due to the fantastic reviews so I am a little disappointed to only be giving it 4 stars. It was a very enjoyable read and it is a great story but it just didn't grip me quite as much as I had hoped. I like a book that I can't put down and this I felt, I could and did put down a little too often. Still this is a fantastic debut and I'll be keeping an eye out for Danny Dagan's next book.
The Game is an intense and gripping thriller that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The story is full of suspense, mystery, and unexpected twists that make it hard to put down. Danny Dagan’s writing is fast-paced and engaging, creating a tense atmosphere that keeps you guessing.
The book explores themes of power, survival, and human nature in a unique and thought-provoking way. The characters are well-developed, and their struggles feel real and compelling.
If you enjoy thrilling stories with deep emotions and surprises, The Game is a great read!.
I received a free copy of this book via Bernard's Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well this was a cracking good read! What a fabulous debut novel!
The ‘game’ begins as five of the wealthiest people in the UK find out that their children (young adults) have been kidnapped.
With the rules of the ‘game’ becoming public knowledge, and very large amounts of money being demanded in order to save their children, the parents employ PI Alex Czerniak to find where they are and rescue them.
This is a kidnapping like no other though and we read about it through various POVs which works really well. We have the hostages and where they are held, together with their kidnappers; we have the parents, and Alex, who have gathered together at Ewald House; and we have Downing Street and its staff.
I was completely stunned and gripped by what happened to the hostages - both during and after capture: such a very clever idea though! In addition to this, there is a struggle for power in government as the Prime Minister and Home Secretary do not agree on the stance they should take. Although this takes you away from the main story, I thought it was a good addition and added some humour too.
There is twist after twist and I just couldn’t decide if the ‘children’ would survive or not. And then that ending! I can’t imagine anyone actually working out where this is going to go - it’s unbelievably tragic when you realise what has been planned but there is such a powerful message behind it all.
This thriller was sensational! It had me hooked and reeled in before the first chapter had finished. The plot twist as to whom was behind the kidnappings was mind blowing. I didn't see it coming!!!! It tackles the social issue of the rich/poor divide well and with sensitivity.
The book was extremely well written and descriptive. Like all excellent with lots of twists and turns. The story flowed well and the ending was a bit of a cliffhanger for me so I really hope we get a follow up!
The characters were great. The five kidnapped adult children - Emily, Noah, Jonny, Ashleigh and Zayn - were all interesting. They didn't act like kids brought up in privileges which was actually a really nice experience! The parents - Peter, Cecelia, Theo, Davis and Nadia - were great too. The only one I wasn't too keen on was Theo. He was a bit of a pompous windbag! Alex Czerniak the PI was good. He worked so hard but a bit of a horrible time on occasion. I'm looking at you Mr. Theo Salt! The other characters were great and worked brilliantly in the story.
The book is written in third person. Mostly from Noah and Alex's POVs. There are a few chapters from Nessa's too.
If love a gripping and compelling thriller I recommend this one.
A good unexpected book full of a fair few twists. Moral choices have to be made when children of millionaires are kidnapped and a ransom is asked for but not for typical reasons. With a steady pace, this novel was well written and set in an almost surreal setting. The characters were well written but I feel we could’ve gotten to know the children more. The ending wasn’t as tidy as I would like though, leaving it open for a sequel possibly.
Danny Dagan uses devilishly devious plot devices to deliver an unforgettable debut. The story sparkles with originality and shines with an addictive and compelling authorial voice. The dialogue is so damn razor-sharp that at times I felt like putting on some protective gloves before turning to the next page. Danny Dagan is unique in being able to match the late, great Raymond Chandler with his slick, sexy one-liners. The characterisation absolutely blew me away and the character arcs as the plot unfolded added so much to the quality of the narrative and its clever twists and turns. Through his fiction the author raises some serious questions about the world in which we live and have to daily watch the rich get richer as the poor get poorer. Danny Dagan is a writer who deserves a place at the very top of the bestseller lists.
I love the cover of this book, the beautiful shade of blue somehow feels peaceful, and yet the overall picture somehow conveys the thrilling story within.
I was absolutely blown away when I realised that this was a debut novel, and am desperately hoping that it will become a series. For me it was both a sinister twist on the well known story of Robin Hood, and also an interesting narrative on wealth and what that really means. On paper, someone may have billions of pounds. Yet the selling of assets and companies to release that money leads to job losses further down the chain.
This story was perfectly paced and had me fully invested right from page one. I felt like I should have disliked the main characters, or at least their parents. And whilst I'd never agree with the methods that Robin Brigade used, the fact that a handful of people could solve poverty by sharing their wealth makes me uncomfortable.
The writing style had me fully immersed in the story. And the twists at the end, well I did not see them coming! The language used and level of description was absolutely spot on. The characters were all interesting both individually, and as a group.
This was an outstanding read, even more so for being Danny's debut work. He is definitely going to be an author to look out for!
A high stakes and suspenseful thriller that will have you hooked from page one.
The writing in this book is incredibly vivid, reading it truly made me feel as if I was watching a movie. I was fully immersed in the story from the very first page and finished it in only two days, a true page turner!
There were so many nail biting moments, interesting characters, and plot twists throughout the story. I enjoyed the quick pace of the story as it kept me engaged the whole time.
I absolutely love multiple POVs and this book definitely did not disappoint in that department. I loved that the story switched between the adult children being held captive on the island, the parents who are trying to save them, and the government officials. The story is honestly very thought provoking and the alternating POVs truly gives us a chance to explore the different opinions everyone has and the moral dilemma of the whole situation.
I found this to be a very enjoyable read and I highly recommend it. This is a great debut novel and I truly hope to read more from this author in the future.
On first reading the premise on the back of the book, I imagined this to be a Squid game/Hunger games genre of story, where the parents would be sponsoring the gifts their children would be able to use to survive. However, this book takes a very different turn. The author focuses more on the psychological impact an event like this would have on those involved and possibly society as a whole. The extent to which each parent will go to save their children and the morally dubious decisions they take to ensure their survival is what drives most of the plot forward. There are a few plot twists and reveals throughout the book, which are predictable for the most part. There are a few characters who don't contribute much to the overall story and could have either been more fleshed out or have their roles reduced. I would say the motive of the mastermind behind the entire plan is also a little extreme, but who am I to say how extreme some people with the right(or wrong) means can think?
Overall, it's a good read but a few changes could have taken The Game to another level completely.
This is one those books that feels like movie/tv show as you’re reading it. I love that the author was able to create such a grand atmosphere in this novel.
When the children of the 5 richest billionaires are abducted, their parents must make a hard choice. They can pay a hefty price to free their child or lose them forever. This concept is very unique and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The author combines multi-POV, high octane action, twists and turns with questions of morality into a thrilling ride you don’t want to get off of. This was such an entertaining read, that is especially poignant for the current times.
I started this book and read it in one sitting. I could not stop once I started reading. Danny Dagan writes like a seasoned professional and I cannot wait to read what else he has in store for us.
If you’re looking for a different kind of thriller that makes you think, please pick this up.
Thank you to Love Books Tours, Danny Dagan and Bloodhound Books for providing me the ARC to read. These opinions are my own.
This book drew me in straight away. An "episode" in chapter 1 and a kidnapping in chapter 2! It really set the scene for lots of drama and intrigue. I love the Robin Hood idea to the games - taking from the rich to pay the poor and suffering. This resonates with the current political standings of should the rich be taxed more? There are plenty of plot twists that all seem to come at once in the second half of the book, creating a more thrilling read The only thing I didn't like about the book was the Cancer storyline which I found very triggering as I have family and friends going through this at the moment so maybe a warning at the beginning would have been good. This is the Only thing stopping it being a 5 star for me.
This book had me gripped from the first page! Noah wakes up in what appears to be a psychiatric facility and he is told that he stabbed somebody. Later it is revealed that he is one of a group of billionaire's adult children who have been kidnapped and imprisoned on a remote island. Their parents are asked to pay ransoms, but there is a catch, the billionaires must compete against each other to save their children.
I enjoyed the different characters and reading how their pasts intertwined. There were some great twists and I couldn't put this book down!
The Game is a unique twisty thriller that has you questioning the morals of everyone. This novel is written well keeping the audience guessing, the morals of some of the characters were eyebrow raising. The concept of kidnapping the wealthy was interesting and seeing how it played out was gripping. The multiple point of views really helped create a picture and the more we delved into the story the more we learnt about our characters. This novel certainly had me gripped with all its twists and turns and an ending I didn't see coming.
Ok - how is this a debut novel? I read it, I loved it, I immediately went to find out what else Danny had written, and was DEVESTATED to find that this is his debut - because I need more. Now. Please.
The Game is a twisty novel, with an ending that you won't see coming, and lots and lots of angsty familial drama. As a parent, I was sat on the edge of my seat, reading about the rich parents trying to desperately save their children that had been abducted to an island, and in social-media esq way, were getting voted as to who was going to be killed next. The parent that had two children involved- it broke me! Which, in a novel, is quite simply beautiful - I love reads that make me feel. I loved how each character was different, and developed perfectly, with their own past history intricacies.
It's a book that will make you question, make you feel all the emotions, and be left yelling at the author for not having written more novels for you to read next. What have you got to lose?
(I'd like to mention, in case there are similiar people to me, that it's a trigger for me to see harm to a child, and I wasn't triggered by this book.)
The first chapter was extremely unsettling but addictive and really made me eager to read more. The plot was full of twists and turns and was told from several viewpoints. I'm not always a fan of that narrative ploy but it worked well here and added to the drama and the development of the characters. The plot was thought provoking and dark in places and mostly unexpected too... but I did work out one of the big twists towards the end, but whilst I was busy congratulating myself on that win, another twist sideswiped me altogether.... well done to Danny Dagan for a throughly entertaining, well crafted and page turning read.
I developed a soft spot for the PI Alex and would be happy to see him again in a future novel!
After reading the blurb I was running for this book. I thought the concept of the storyline was brilliant. Kidnapping billionaires heirs to get money to use for the poor / the more needed.
I did feel like it's was abit slow paced throughout, and got abit bored with the political parts - but that's just me with any kind of political chat. I zone out. But I guess it makes part of the storyline.
The twists at the end were unexpected and abit of excitement to end with. Although unsure why they would have done what they did..
An entertaining though not light-hearted mystery with the requisite twist ending. Also blatantly sets up for a sequal (not yet published), which I look forward to reading
Wow!! This takes you on an interesting journey that throws a number of twists and turns your way whilst also challenging you to consider a moral dilemma of sorts 🤔
Initially we're presented with a situation for Noah that really is the stuff of nightmares - waking in somewhere unknown, with no memory and presented with the fact something awful has happened. What happens next seems to be a bit fantastical and would make a fun movie. The addition of politics and the games at play there gives us food for thought and I couldn't help but stop and reflect at various points. Nessa's a wet blanket and I didn't particularly like her but I think she's representative of a system that has been failing for a while and that can change following a series of unfortunate events. She's a product of our messed up society as are a lot of the questionable characters in this.
I hate politics usually so tend to steer clear from them where I can. However, it does add a very interesting element to the story and helps keep the suspense as the parents battle to do what they think is right.
I think most of us would do anything and give anything to protect those closest to us because of the emotional connection we have to our loved ones. Is it logical though as part of a wider context?! 🤔 Could our actions, however noble, set a precedence that could contribute to the further degradation of a failing society?!
A fantastic debut novel by Danny Dagan. This thriller had me wanting to keep reading to find out what happened next. When the children of five billionaires are kidnapped and held to ransom, their parents are left to fret about how they are going to pay. The group that have kidnapped their children want the parents to take part in a game, where only the parent who pays the most gets their child back, while the others are all returned in coffins. Meanwhile, their children are on a desert island being fully catered for in terms of food, drink and clothing but secrets are revealed to them which change their lives. The question is, who will be returned to the parents? I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and enjoyed the twists and turns. Some of the twists I could see coming, but others were complete shocks. Trying to work out who was behind it all was interesting, and I’m sure Danny Dagan put a few red herrings in there to make sure that the reader was misdirected. Overall, it was an enjoyable novel and one that made you think, especially if all of the richest people in the world redistributed some of their wealth, how many people would benefit overall. I look forward to reading Danny’s next book, especially if some of the characters from this book that we’ve come to know are included!
The Game is a dark, intense thriller that had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I really enjoyed the Robin Hood sentiment of the book of taking off the rich to support the poor, I mean hasn't this crossed most peoples minds when we look at what is going on in the world.
I liked the characters in the book and particularly Alex, I would love to read more about him.
There were some dark moments during the story, which gave a rollercoaster of emotions, but it was good to see the character development that these moments then caused. There were several twists that I didn't see coming, and I will definitely be recommending this. A thrilling suspenseful story!
The Game is a fast paced thriller that had me hooked instantly! Told from a trio of perspectives, we follow the story of 5 people kidnapped just because their parents are billionaires. In a Robin Hood style scheme of take from the rich and give to the poor, the parents have to decide how much their children are worth in order for them to be safely released. For a debut novel, I was blown away at how well written this book is. Well developed characters who I felt I got to know, beautiful descriptions putting you in the middle of the scene, and a number of twists to keep you guessing at every corner. I will definitely be looking out for Danny Dagan's second novel!
