Not only did I not avoid fate, I actively taunted it, and now we’re all in trouble.
I spent my life running only to find out that what I ran from was the one thing I needed to survive: my pack.
A perfect quintet.
That was until an unexpected dragon shifter crashed into my world and changed the dynamics. Now I’m irrevocably tied to Talon, a fifth alpha, and one who’s under the control of a power hungry and evil shifter.
A shifter who wants to destroy the cities and return us to a single alpha rule.
My instincts tell me that Talon belongs in my pack with Hunter, Slade, Kellan, and Finley, but the hurdles we must overcome feel unsurmountable. Especially with tainted magic breathing down our necks, and betrayal around every corner.
It’s a race for survival. Not only for our pack, but the entire shifter world.
But I know we’re strong enough.
We have no other choice.

Unfortunately I found myself bored reading this book, nothing really happens until like 90% of the way through and even that was anticlimactic. Totally called her father being a witch/halfbreed - the death of fletcher was a total let down and was super anticlimactic.
I hated the 180 character arc for Finley, made him into this pathetic soppy mess, hated the complete personality change for the FMC she went from a complete independent gal to this soppy (literally) male dependant obsessed shifter. Yes I get mate bonds change perspective but come on, she folded quicker than a house of cards.

A Claim of Fortune picks up right where A Twist of Luck left off, but once again, Jaymin has included recaps of the previous books! That is some real MVP behavior, and we love to see it!
There is A LOT going on in this book, but it is easy to follow along with. There is the more in-depth introduction of the new character from that book 2 cliffy that is 😏 Plus, the character and relationship growth to match (romantic relationship and platonic/familial relationship).
Finley finally stops being an absolute grump (iykyk), and he is the biggest cinnamon roll to exist...after Kellan 🤣
Jaymin really did a great job with the connections and development of the relationships between all the characters. I am super excited to see what our dragons get into with book 4.
This book does NOT have a brutal cliffhanger (Bless you, Jaymin, you sweet angel), but there are open plot points that will be addressed in the final book.
I know that b-e-t-r-a-y-a-l is going to be ruthlessly addressed, and I cannot wait. Add in a dash of intrigue for the ending, and I'm already to devour the final book when it's ready!
Thank you to Jaymin Eve and her team for the gifted e-arc! All opinions are my own.
oh man...this hurts me to write this. Okay, so for the writing, I still love Jaymin and her books, this rating is for this book alone.
You guys....you GUYS.....I....I....I didn't like this! I gave it three stars because the series as a whole has kept me super entertained, but man oh man, I struggled through this one. Now, my review has to be taken with a grain of salt because I am normally the outlier. Seriously, I love a book--others hate it. I hate a book--most everyone else loves it. So, there's that.
Okay, spoilers past this point, so stop reading if you don't want to be spoiled!!!
felt like this book was just filler, a lot of it I could skip, and I wouldn't be lost at all, so I did a lot of skimming. It did end where I needed to read the next to get closure. I like the FMC and her men. Though things did get a bit repetitive, especially the nicknames.
Ok so here’s the deal: I loved this book… but I also have beef with it.
On one hand, I adore this series and these characters own property in my brain, so my instinct is to slap a 4-star rating on it out of loyalty. But if I’m being real? Not a whole lot actually happened. We got some solid character growth, but the plot? Kinda just... chilled in the background until the end, where it suddenly sprinted into chaos like it forgot it had somewhere to be. That ending? Completely random.
Mild spoiler ahead: I was also pretty frustrated that after all the build-up, her bonding moment with Finley got cut short—especially after we just spent an entire book with Kellan getting most of her attention. By around the 60% mark, I started finding him a bit irritating, to be honest.
That said, I’m still foaming out the mouth for this world and can’t wait for the next book. If I don’t get a tag team dragon fest…
I have so very many things to say about this book and series in general. So many opinions and so little time!
Let’s get this rolling shall we?
Emme has been captured again. Imagine that. Captured 3 times in as many books. Talk about history repeating itself or a FMC being too stupid to live. Sheesh.
I know two dragons are always better than one but in this case, with the already established group and their own set of problems it seems to be a bit of overkill. Not to mention he’s given a mixture of personality traits that already exist in the group. Let’s make him super alpha and super mysterious so he doesn’t seem like a jacked up version of Hunter and Slade mixed together.
Finley has been my favorite. I’m a sucker for a reluctant alpha. That was up until this point. I have slowly been losing patience with his sulking and generally crappy attitude all in the name of “past trauma”. While I’ve made it no secret that Emme drives me nuts I cheered her on during the cave scene with Finley. She gave him absolutely everything he deserved and I was so here for it.
The problem with the fall out with Emme and Finley? Finley does a complete 180 and is not the grouchy lumbersnack we know and love. He just becomes cinnamon roll #2. Could we get a little bit more transition before completely changing who he is?
I still hate the nicknames they all have for each other. Snow (gag), Golden (eye roll), Ice Queen (so original), etc they’re terrible and cringy.
I’ll say the first 1/3 to 1/2 of this book annoyed me to no end. It was too long and was slow but things got better. I ended up less annoyed with Finley and he became my favorite again because of his sex scene. He and Slade are the only reason I’m seeing this series through.
The battle with the bad guy was anticlimactic and surprise he’s not the baddest bad guy. Oooh ahhh. Who would have known? This book was filler and that’s all.
This series is wildin. It had me the first 20% but everything in the middle was just working through relationship issues, fucking and more fucking. The page count was RIDICULOUS for nothing of importance happening between 20% and 84%. And the whole super dragon thing towards the end?! Shifter RH’s are so out of pocket, I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Look, this series is mediocre overall but there’s only 1 more book in the series. IM COMMITTED AND ITS COMING OUT WHEN MY SEASONAL DEPRESSION IS AT ITS PEAK. IM SURE ILL EAT THIS SHIT UP THEN. 😂
I've been looking forward to this but am sadly DNF at 55%. it's not holding my interest. I know these books are disposable reads, aimed to be light and airy. However this entire book feels like a filler and I am disappointed.
Omfgggg the number of times this girl takes 2 steps forward with the guys and the 8 billions steps back is truly infuriating. I can’t finish it. Literal garbage. Dumpster fire. Zero redeeming qualities. Everyone is awful and I hated it.
I received an ARC of this book! Thank you so much Jaymin Eve!

❣️Review does not contain spoilers:❣️ This book…WOW! It took me a little to get into and then half way through I couldn’t put it down. I was waking up at night to read it and any spare time I had my nose was in the book. I love that. She began the book with summaries of what happened in the previous two books. That alone made it easier to jump right back into the story and connect with all of the characters. I am obsessed with all of the MMCs in this book, HOWEVER, Finley Thornton…..😍 you have my heart. There was a lot that happened in this book, but I feel like it developed beautifully and Jaymin wrote it so well. Finley and Slade grew immensely in this novel and I loved seeing the development of their relationship with Emme, as well as the continuing goofiness that is Kellan and the over protecting and daddy alpha that is Hunter. There were twists and turns and I ATE THEM UP. My second 5 star read of the year and it did not disappoint.
Book 4 cannot come soon enough ⏰ I’ll just be here waiting!!

I was so excited to finally see Fin and Emme get to know each other better and really open up in this book. But honestly, their connection felt a bit rushed. It lacked the slow-burn tension and sensual buildup we got with Kellan and Hunter. I know Fin’s been the grumpy bear of the group in the past two books, but his character development here felt a little too fast. Don’t get me wrong—when he brought her flowers, I was absolutely swooning (and laughing), but I wanted more from our lumbersnack. A little more steam. A little more tension.
As for Slade, I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t get more intimate moments between him and Emme this time around. I know I was just asking for more buildup with Fin, but with Slade, we’ve been teased for three books now—and that dragon shell is only slightly starting to crack. That said, I loved seeing those little sparks of sweetness peek through. I can’t wait to see how things unfold in the final book between him, Emme, and Talon. I just know it’s going to be good.
Speaking of Talon… I’m still trying to wrap my head around him. Honestly, I feel a bit of emotional whiplash—kind of like I did with Finley. There’s clearly still a lot of growth to come with his character, so I’m reserving final judgment until Book 4. But I’ll say this: it’s going to take some serious coaxing for me to be fully won over.
Now, I hate to admit this, but I found myself getting a little annoyed with our golden boy this time around. As much as I adore his character, he came off a bit too needy in this book. I know that’s part of his charm, but I literally caught myself yelling, “LEAVE EMME AND FINLEY ALONE!” He’s had plenty of time with her—time to share, buddy!
Hunter’s dominance really came through this time, and let me just say: I was clutching my pearls when he walked in on her and Kellan. That scene? EVERYTHING. He absolutely took control in this book, and I was 100% here for it.
All in all, I’m giving this one 3/5 stars. My expectations for Finley and Emme were sky-high, and I felt a bit let down by how their bond ultimately played out. Still, I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to see how everything wraps up in the final book. January can’t come soon enough!

I can't believe it took a couple nice words from Fin for Emme to fold and forgive him. A little of two books of constant belittling and making her feel like shit you fold like a house of cards? Girl...what happened to the independent and strong heroine from book 1. She was just a sappy horny mess the entire time. Nothing happens until 80%. The death of Fletcher was dumb af and anticlimactic. The biggest baddest enemy you have was defeated the first time you meet and within 5 minutes?? Tal was literally going to go with him until Fletcher hit his mate. Really...that's all it took and you finally change your mind? I'm so annoyed with this and the very ending.

Huge drop off, everyone felt like a caricature of themselves and some of the dialogue was unbearable - nothing subtle or nuanced about anything at all, the whole thing felt it was written by an emo teenager thinking they were acing ‘deep and meaningful’
Finley,Finley,Finley!!!!! I obsessed with all of them but the turn around that Finley has is so sexy! We love of a man that wants to be better for himself so he can be better for her! You get all the feels from this one and of course as always Miss Jaymin destroys us with revelations and cliffhangers! I cannot wait for the finale, it’s gonna be so good!!!
