Eun-Yo Song has beauty and popularity; everything a girl could want! All the boys declare their love for her, except the one she really wants -- heartthrob Chan-Gyeong. After a chance encounter with pop-singer Nan Lee, Eun-Yo hatches a scheme to become a star herself, and win over her dream boy. But little does she know that Nan's the one pulling her strings... and she's about to fall into his trap!
I wanted to like this. The art is pretty nice. But, the story was boring and full of conceited characters that think they're better than everyone else. So, I decided - after awhile - to not continue wasting my time on this.
'Star Project Chiro, Volume 1' by HyeKyung Baek is my second experience with manhwa, which are basically Korean style manga. After two of these, I think I need to try another one before deciding these aren't for me.
Eun-Yo Song is a beautiful high school girl who models her family line of children's clothing. Everyday her brothers decide what she will wear to school and by the reactions she gets from the boys, either the clothes are a hit or Eun-Yo is beautiful enough to overcome her style of dress. She meets a boy she likes named Chankyung Woo, then she meets a pop singer named Nan Lee. Eun-Yo wants to become a star and Nan has a weird kind of obsessive love/hate relationship with Eun-Yo. This is volume 1, so the story doesn't conclude here.
So the story elements are just odd to me. We have a beautiful girl modelling children's clothing and the boys are crazy about her. That seemed weird to me. Then we have plot elements that are supposed to be humorous like an accident that causes two teeth to fall out and a house fire that destroys a lot of money and scorches hair. The Nan character just comes across as mean and creepy and maybe that's the point. I just found it not to my liking.
I received a review copy of this manhwa from Diamond Book Distributors, NETCOMICS, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manhwa.
Eun-Yo is a pretty and popular girl caught between boys, her three brothers who have groomed her fashion, plain schoolboy Chan-Kyung and pop-singer Nan Lee to whom she falls into debt to. With possibly her only real friend, Hyun-Joo she struggles between world's familiar and unfamiliar, family, and what it means to have the freedom to do what you want. Mostly it's funny, but what is funny can be taken seriously.
Review: Eunyo is a sixteen year old girl who is famous for her childhood modeling career. Now because she is so pretty the boys love her and the girls hate her. The worst part is the boy she is in love with is not in her league and the one who wants her is a jerk. In this the first volume of the Chiro series who will get to be with Eunyo or is it too early to tell? I liked the premises of this book and at times the story was really good, but unfortunately I could not like the main character. She is so full of herself and so mean to the girls around her. Also she is so oblivious that things are not all that wonderful at home and that her brothers who have raised her are not as financially stable as they would like her to believe. I just felt she was to self- centered to see what was going on around her. Also she is not very smart and thinks because she used to be someone famous she can do and say anything she wants without repercussions. Time and time again this come backs to bite her in the butt. The guys in the love triangle at least make it somewhat more interesting. Chankyung, the student body president, is not who you would suspect Eunyo to be interested in, but she has a major crush on him. He is smart, sweet and he secretly wants to be an actor. When Eunyo is around Chankyung I actually found myself somewhat liking her. Chankyung is the only person that she puts before herself. Unfortunately, again this causes her to get herself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Then there is Inan, he is the famous pop singer who has his eye on Eunyo and has no problem stooping to black mail and trickery to get her. I did not really care for him or his methods. Inan did not care who got hurt in his pursuit of Eunyo. I will probably read the next volume just because you never know what is going to happen in a manga. Just because one of the volumes seems like the story will go one way does not mean that it is set in stone and that it will definitely go in that direction. For those of you who love manga and love a love triangle this may be a series for you. I received a free ecopy of this book from Netgalley for my honest opinion.
Picked up this one because I liked the other title, Bring it on!, by this author. It's about a mischievous pretty girl, and she knows it. Eun-Yo gets talked into trying out for a talent agency. She's not really into it, already adored by many, but helps out her friend. At the agency her friend unfortunately insults one of the stars there, he breaks her camera, they get into a squabble, and he says he'll pay for the damages if Eun-Yo auditions. Again unfortunately he also decides to add himself to the judging table where he asks her to perform humiliating dances, such as the "dog's leg dance" where your legs shake back and forth while your hands slap your forehead. Her pride works a little differently from some people, and she does it along with other things she makes up on the fly. She may be super self centered, but she's pretty ballsy and fearless.

I am a huge fan of Ouran High School Host Club, so I thought I'd give a different manga a shot. But, I was slightly disappointed. Though the concept of the overall story is really fun and intriguing, the execution fell flat for me. I felt like the way the story progressed was quite disjointed, or that some plot points didn't make sense. Also, the hero (one of them, at least) seemed quite sadistic and did nothing for me. He was just there, causing problems, and did not seem to have any redeeming qualities. The heroine was really whiny and immature. I did like the other hero, who was sweet and wanted to pursue the heroine. But there wasn't enough development of him either. This one just wasn't my cup of tea, but others who are really into manga of this genre may love it.
One of the more ridiculous manga that I have read. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have requested it, but after a break up, what better to read than some bubbly manga to cheer you up? The only reason I gave it such a high rating was the art work, and even of that I have seen better.
The plot was thin and the characters psychotic. Any stereotypical elements that are found in most mangas can be found in this book. Except cross dressing....
I seriously don't know how this manga received such high ratings. Maybe it was because I was raised on Cowboy Bebop, Gundam Wing, and Blue Sub. No. 6 that I expect more out of mangas.
I couldn't finish this, both of the main characters are selfish idiots. They're selfish idiots on purpose, it's one of those series where the transformation/growth of the characters is the main theme. But, I had to skim through it, they were just too stereo-typically stupid. I'm totally interested in seeing more volumes of the series, I want the catharsis of a happy ending, and to find out what weird things will happen in the plot to change the characters, but I'm not going to be able to read this one word-for-word.
This was cute and had some funny things happen. It is about Eun-You Song is a girl that is popular with the boys (not nice to girls). And she likes Chan-Kyung Woo who’s smart, nice and popular and he wants to be a star. Somehow she also meets pop-singer Nan lee, and these two just don’t get along. He keeps trying to blackmail her into things.

Not a bad start to a typical manhwa. The art is pleasing and the characters are interesting. The real meat of the plot is yet to come, considering the crossdressing hasn't happened yet. But I think I will have a better opinion after volume 2. The girl is pretty selfish, but likeable, so I have high hopes.
So, that was one of the more bizarre plot lines I've ever encountered. I did really like the artwork, especially how it varied in style from panel to panel.
Wow, I hated this. The main character isn't just obnoxious and awful, she's inconsistently written. One of the apparent love interests is a total manipulative creep. Nope nope nope.
