Everything is falling into place. I have an amazing job. I live in my dream house with my best friend. I'm finally picking up the pieces of my shattered life. So what if I’ve relegated myself to staying single for the rest of eternity? I have everything else I want. Who needs love, anyway? Certainly not me.

That is until my new neighbor comes crashing into my life on his motorcycle looking like every girl's tattooed, bad-boy fantasy come to life. A leather jacket and dimples shouldn't be that hot, right?

Not to mention he's my brother's best friend, and I haven't seen him in eight years—not since he skipped town after high school graduation and never looked back. It was a stupid schoolgirl crush. I shouldn't still have feelings for him. And I definitely shouldn't watch him working on his bike shirtless in his driveway every morning.

The thing is, despite his looks, he's not a bad boy at all. Luke Collins is the sweetest guy I know. It doesn't matter, though. He's too perfect, and I'm too broken. Nothing can ever happen between us.

But life has a way of laughing in your face at your best-laid plans. It's just one night. One night that turns into two, and before I know it, I'm tangled up with the man who deserves more than I can give him.

When my past comes back to haunt me, will he be my lifeline or will I fall back into oblivion?

I loved this book! From the very first page, I was in, and that’s mostly thanks to Emory, who is such a strong, grounded, and relatable lead. She’s the kind of character you root for instantly. And don’t even get me started on Luke… he is the ultimate book boyfriend. A hot, tatted-up biker with just the right amount of softness? Mala Scott really knew what she was doing.

Speaking of which: Scott’s spice scenes? Unreal. She brings the heat in a way that’s vivid without ever feeling overdone. It’s the kind of writing that makes you feel like you’re the one being flirted with.

Nate, on the other hand, was a bit of a challenge for me at first. He came off as pretty overbearing, and I struggled with him in the beginning. But over time, his layers peeled back, and I found myself warming up to him more than I expected.

Final thoughts: I need a Luke in my life, tattoos and all. This book delivered on everything: romance, heat, and heart. Highly recommend if you’re into swoon-worthy leads and emotional depth with a spicy kick!

Wow!

That was one spicy meal 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I didn’t expect much honestly since I know this is a debut romance novel of the author but I really enjoyed this. Not one boring chapter. Not one!

I love that it’s 🌶️🌶️🌶️ — I really did not expect that. I was reading this at work but needless to say, I think I did a good job hiding my emotions as I read through this 🤣

I love the characters. I even fell for that toxic ex 🤣 I think it’s absurd of me but yeah we need a red flag every now and then 😭 I need the author to write a book in this series for this character as a redemption.

The FMC’s character is a bit off for me though. She’s slightly discouraging. And I know she had the trauma but I really didn’t like the way she treated the MMC. He deserved so much.

And the friendships and her sibling??? Yessss please. I vouch for these kinds of people in my life. It is quite wholesome and endearing that they’re protective of the FMC.

Overall, this is such a good book. It was a such a page turner for me and I could not even wait for the release date of Ashfall. I’ve been simping for book 2’s couple since their “meet-cute.”

Btw before this review ends, thank you so much dear author for giving me this ARC. I feel so honored, not to mention that this is my first time. I hope when the second book comes up, I’d still be chosen as a lucky ARC reader.

3.5⭐️!!! You know what?? Hell yeah!!! I absolutely ate this up. This was such a lovely story and I enjoyed seeing the YEARS of history between the two main characters. The spice was incredible, I was blushing 🧎🏻‍♀️I didn’t ever feel super connected to or emotionally invested in the characters but the writing was easy to follow and the drama kept me locked in!!!

Will most definitely be tuning into Allie’s story.

*Thank you so much to Mala Scott for the eARC of Trustfall in exchange for an honest review*

The book is true , vulnerable , and a Trustfall , trust me on this ❤️

Honestly ? This book was a Trustfall for me and Mala Scott really caught me . I didn't really expect to be selected for an ARC review but Thank you Mala Scott for this amazing experiance .
Moving on to the book 😄 drum rolls 🥁🥁 please
It was a solid 4 stars .
Let's get into why the 4 amazing , super deserved four stars.
~the emotional aspect of the story . To leave a toxic relationship and commit to another one is really tough and I can't imagine the trauma Emory went through .trauma is caused , not only through physical abuse but through emotional abuse as well . The author really did well with portraying this in the story . It felt really real and not at all over done .
~Allie😌 . Honestly Allie reminds me of my own bestfriend and you can't imagine how great Allie was . I mean she was a great friend , picked up pieces of Emory and helped her rebuild herself every damn time she fell apart , was unintentionally funny , protective of FMC and also called FMC out on her faults .
~The FMC herself 💝👸🏻👑. She was actually strong . Sure she was sheltered but she kind of rebuilt herself and stood up for herself . I mean that takes guts . And she was not the badass-nothing-breaks-me FMC either , she was vulnerable , cautious and determined . She was human with human feelings who felt emotions and that was actually really comforting .
~Finally Luke Collins . Okay he did have his bad moments in the book but him protecting the FMC was realllllllly hot .

Now the reason for why I didn't give 5 stars ?
The MMC kinda got lost on me . Like he never really pushed enough for conversation . He just asked her once or twice maximum and then went like "what she needs now is not a conversation but ..." Like man just have a damn conversation and keep your hands to yourself for 5 minutes .
And also a few scenes were not really necessary like the bar scene with his friends actually made me feel kind of uncomfortable for the FMC . I got second hand embarrassment . And the nickname just didn't really fit , personally .

Overall ? The book is great . It's really nice and cozy read and tho Luke sometimes makes me wanna throw him off a cliff was actually sweet at times too . And I am really digging Allie and Ashton's book . Please 🙏🏻🙏🏻 author I am dying for Allie and Ashton's story . Back to Trustfall now , okay so do give this book a try , I promise it WON'T Disappoint .

The book is true , vulnerable , and a Trustfall , trust me on this ❤️

Loved it! Emory and Luke's story captured my heart, and the book takes you through lots of emotional highs and lows.

The character development is fantastic, and it totally sets the scene for the next book, too. I am grateful to have an advanced copy but sad cos it means I have to wait even longer for the next one!

If you're looking for some spicy romance with a good storyline, this is for you!

“Whatever your story is, it doesn’t define you either.”

ARC Review

Thoughts: Mala Scott hooked me into this book, and I loved every moment of it. Emory is written as a strong and grounded MC, and you can't help but root for her throughout this book. Luke… we all want one of those book boyfriends in our lives. I loved how we even got the toxic ex storyline, that you couldn’t hate, but also didn’t fully love—friends, lovers, self, all relationships perfectly written and delivered in this book. Mala Scott wrote out the FMC history of trauma in a beautiful way; pay attention to them, but still build the potential for character growth and personal strength to prevail.

Favourite Moment: The proposal, and also every moment where Luke was protective

Notes: How can you not love a protective MMC

This book was a breath of fresh air.

If you love a strong FMC, meddlesome straight forward best friend, over protective brother and an off limits brothers best friend then this story is for you.

Emory is picking up the pieces of her life after leaving a toxic relationship. Allie, her best friend has been there for her through it all, the other thing that has kept her going is her job as a nurse.

Luke returns to Emberfield after some time away. However he didn’t expect to come face to face with Emory, his best friend Nate’s little sister. Except she isn’t little, she’s all grown up.

Both of them have feelings for the other, the way they dance around each other, the flirting, witty banter, we knew they were going to fall for each other. But Emory is feeling vulnerable and cautious, but determined to not let her ex win.

Luke follows Emory’s lead, taking it nice and slow, he’s attentive, kind and caring, wooing her, definitely boyfriend material for sure. Luke wants to take there relationship public, but Emory isn’t ready, due to her past trauma. But when Jaxon, her ex comes back into her life, throwing her carefully crafted life into a tailspin, not to mention her brother becomes aware of her relationship with Luke, feelings running high.

But what Emory didn’t know was that her brother Nate knew what her ex Jaxon did to her, the sting of betrayal from her best friend Allie hurting her. Emory feels suffocated by her brother’s over protectiveness, putting him in his place.

In the time Luke has been with Emory, there have been little tells, that he suspects is a mechanism for what Emory experienced in her previous relationship, and now Emory finds herself in a situation, in order for her to heal and move forward she tells Luke, finally unburdening herself.

Luke makes a rash decision that impacts his relationship with Emory. He thought he was doing the right thing by helping her, but instead he is goaded by her ex which has consequences, breaking Emory’s trust.

Yet Emory takes the biggest risk of all, confronting not only Jaxon, but some dark truths about him and why he is the way he is, even though she was afraid, she took her power back, with him now out of her life, with a bit of help from Allie, it takes Emory some time to realise the monumental mistake she made walking away from Luke only for them to fall back into each other’s arms.

That proposal and there baby new was bittersweet and that is definitely a happily ever after I can get behind.

The spice was on point, I loved how Luke helped Emory explore her wants and needs, taking her to new nights. He makes his girl feel wanted, loved and cherished, loving her hard and giving her what she needs.

The author explored realistic topics in a sensitive manner, giving the characters a voice to tell their story. There story was easy to follow and the drama will keep you engaged from start to finish.

Can’t wait for Allie and Ashton’s story.

Highly recommend both the author and the book.

I received an ARC. Therefore, I am submitting a voluntary review.

Emory is putting the pieces of her life together after breaking up with her extremely toxic and abusive boyfriend. She’s sworn off dating and instead focuses on her job and her friendship. When Luke Collins, her high school crush and brother’s best friend, moves in next door all bets are off. Luke is a nice guy, and Emory feels she’s too broken to enter a relationship. Will Luke help her realize she’s perfect as she is?

I liked Emory as a character. She was resilient and vulnerable. She’s not perfect and still suffers from PTSD from her past relationship, which was horrific. It makes sense to me that she would be hesitant to start a relationship given what’s she’s been through. I liked her friendship with Allie as well. It was supportive and loving.

I had a hard time with the hero. His character was all over the place. He was described as a nice guy, yet would get jealous and possessive seeing Emory with males friends, even before they were dating. I think this was a misstep by the author. We don’t need to see him for her care in this way, and given what Emory’s been through, it would’ve made much more sense for Luke to be gentle and patient with her. I don’t know, it just felt like he was too close to being an abusive guy for my liking. Another issue I had with him was a scene when they meet his friends at a bar. Emory’s ex would use sex as a weapon to humiliate her. While he did check in and ask for consent before he touched her intimately in front of his friends, in his POV he does admit he was using it as a means to control her and show them she’s his. Again another misstep. This is exactly what her ex did to her, and seeing the hero do something similar was not sexy. From early on he suspects that she was in a toxic relationship, so it doesnt make sense for him to do that.

This was definitely spicy and there were vulnerable moments between the two where they let their guard down. I just wasn’t a fan of the hero and the dynamics of their relationship. I think we need a bigger contrast between him and her ex, and the hero walked a fine line for my tastes.

Let’s get into it because this book delivered on so many levels. Mala Scott’s debut novel packed an emotional punch, giving us a raw and realistic portrayal of healing, friendship, and love after trauma.

I loved the emotional depth. This book felt REAL. Leaving a toxic relationship and learning to trust again is so difficult, and Emory’s journey was portrayed in a way that didn’t feel dramatized or overdone. The emotional abuse aspect was handled with care, and I really appreciated how trauma wasn’t just brushed aside, but was acknowledged and explored in a way that made sense for the character.

Allie is the best friend we all need and I adored her. She reminded me of my own best friend, and honestly, she made this book for me. She was Emory’s rock and was always picking up the pieces, making her laugh, and calling her out when needed. Protective, funny, supportive; just perfection. I need Allie and Ashton’s book ASAP.

I love an FMC who feels real, and Emory was exactly that. She was strong and brave and it showed. She wasn’t some over the top, untouchable badass; she was vulnerable, cautious, and determined. She had been sheltered, but she fought to rebuild herself, and that takes true strength. Watching her stand up for herself was incredibly satisfying.

Luke Collins… mostly was great. Luke had his moments, especially when he was protective. Some of his actions were just so attractive, and I loved how sweet he could be. I did not care for Luke’s lack of communication; he needed to talk more. He had so many opportunities to push for a real conversation with Emory, and instead, he kept deciding now’s not the time. Like, sir, maybe now is exactly the time! I wanted to shake him.

Some scenes felt unnecessary. The bar scene with his friends? Yeah, that was uncomfortable. I got secondhand embarrassment hard for Emory, and honestly, I could’ve done without it.

It was overall a really solid and super enjoyable read! Even though Luke occasionally made me very frustrated, he had his sweet moments that redeemed him. The spice? Very well done. And the emotional journey was beautifully written, especially the heavy themes surrounding Emory and her past.

If you love angst, spice, and a romance that feels authentic, Trustfall won’t disappoint. Also, Mala Scott, if you’re listening... I am begging for Allie and Ashton’s book. 💀🙏

Thank you to Mala Scott for the eARC of this book!

Luke was the southern gentleman, line backer in high school that all the girls wanted and Emory was the quiet book worm and Luke was her brothers best friend. Fast forward 8 years. Emory is coming home from a crazy day as an ER Nurse and gets surprised to see Luke is her new neighbor. He moved back home to help with his fathers construction company. They have a secret situationship since her brother is annoyingly protective of her. Trouble starts when Emory’s toxic ex starts coming around again.

I absolutely loved this story. I loved seeing the growth in Emory after everything she went through. Emory’s best friend/roommate was my favorite side character along with Asher. Allie, was hilarious I loved her banter with everyone. Over protective brother, Nate, was doing too much and irritated me. Glad he came around toward the end but he was unnecessarily over the top in my opinion. Luke was swoon worthy from the beginning. A blue collared man with tattoos that rides motorcycles? Yes please. Also he read Twilight for her and if that’s not love idk what is.

"Falling in love is a lot like falling backwards and not knowing for sure if anyone is going to be there to catch you. What do they call it? A trust fall?"

To be completely honest with you, I didn't know exactly what to expect when I first started reading this book. We're welcoming a new author into our community and you could say she's "falling backwards and doesn't know if anyone is going to be there to catch her" by releasing her debut novel this spring.

Let me tell you, I think she'll be pleasantly surprised.

From the very beginning, I was entranced and picked up my Kindle anytime I had a few minutes. Emory had me with her witty remarks and Luke ... oh my sweet, sweet Luke - the praise coming out of this man's mouth had me GASPING FOR AIR! The way he was always patient with her, understanding no matter what and always thought about her needs first ... he literally treated her like a goddess.

Here's just a tiny glimpse into this:

•"I tip her chin up with my pointer finger. “You don’t ever have to be ashamed to ask for what you want, Emory. In sex, in life, ever.” "

•“So pretty,” he muses. “You’re doing so well, Em. You’re almost there, baby.”

I don't want to spoil too much, so we'll leave it at that for now. I just finished this book, and I'm already thinking about Allie and Ashton's story 📚💐✨️

Wow! What an incredible debut novel for Mala Scott! Trustfall is the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, emotional, and the beauty of reclaiming your life and overcoming trauma.

I loved Luke and Emory. Emory was sweet and gentle, but also sassy and a little reserved. With her history of an abusive relationship, her fear and reluctance came through, but her sass also shined. Luke was the perfect counter to her. He was patient, kind, understanding and ready to heal her wounds and show her that she is worthy of everything. I laughed, I smiled, I got angry, and I loved these two from the first page to the last.

The relationship development and pace made this story so much more realistic. It wasn't all roses as these two fought some hard battles and overcame a lot on the way to their HEA, but that made it even sweeter when they finally got their forever. The intricate details and spicy scenes were the perfect balance to the relationship while still taking into account the trauma that Emory needed to overcome.

Trustfall also did a great job laying the framework for the next books and I am already giddy and excited for the next one.

If you like really spicy romances (I'm not THAT into them), this would be a nice choice. I liked Emory, the FMC, her character was well written. Her strengths and her flaws made her a very believable character.

I tried to like the MMC but he just wasn't for me. For someone who was introduced as a sweet guy, I struggled to find that sweetness. Except for a few redeeming moments during some spicy scenes where he was gentle and attuned to Emory's moods, his jealousy, possessiveness and irrational flare ups pissed me off so much. There was also something about this line, "my girl likes praise" that rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know why.

I loved the side characters and the way the way the sibling and friendship relationships were written were so heartwarming. The platonic nature between Emory and Ashton was a breath of fresh air (go opposite sex friendship with no sexual tension!).

Overall, this is a good romance debut and I'm sure the author will do even better on subsequent books. I received a free ARC of this book and this is a voluntary review.

At first the book was slow for me, I guess because everything was getting introduced on who was who and what was what. After that the slow beginning, the book picked up and I could not put it down. Every second I was able to read, I read! I absolutely fell in love with Trustfall! I loved Luke the most, what a sweet soul that one is! Thank you Mala Scott for giving me the opportunity to read and review your book! I’m EXCITED for the next book!!

"Falling in love is a lot like falling backward and not knowing for sure if anyone is going to be there to catch you."

Reading a book by an author you've never read before, and in this case, a debut novel, is also a lot like a trust fall. Mala Scott was there to catch me and I will always trust her to do it again with any new book she writes.
This book checked all the boxes for me. Amazing character development, banter, a new book boyfriend, 🌶🌶🌶, ALL the emotions, and so well written it's hard to believe this is a debut. I laughed, I cried, sometimes both at once. I never thought I'd get emotional over chicken nuggets or tap-dancing, but I can't tell you why I did without a spoiler warning. But you should read the book and find out for yourself. I absolutely loved this book and I'm so excited for the next one!

A very angsty, emotional story. Emory had a traumatic relationship in her past that was still coloring her interactions. I understood her feeling like she was trapped by EVERYone in her life - her dad who ignored her but tried to tell her what to do, her brother Nate who had prevented her from having a life in high school right up to the present, her best friend Allie who kept a lot of secrets. Even Luke. They all, in one way or another, acted as if, and treated her as if, decisions about her life were something they were better able to make than she was. Everyone had issues, flaws and weaknesses but people worked through their problems and found forgiveness and happiness. Lots of heat, angst, all the feels. A two-tissue read!

If this is how debut author Mala Scott enters the world of contemporary romance, I can not wait to watch her career take off! #trustfall is a heartwarming, brother's best friend/guy next door, story of absolute goodness. If you want a man that will stand at your side and hold your hand while you walk your healing journey, champion you, and worship the ground you walk on, Luke is your perfect book boyfriend. Don't forget the quirky best friend who is the ultimate example of a ride or die bestie!!!
The spice was well done, but didn't overwhelm the plot, the romance touching and swoon worthy, and the challenges they faced made me root for them, scream at them, and left me oh-so satisfied. It's a phenomenal read!

I’ll be honest—I didn’t expect to love the brother’s best friend trope as much as I did in Trustfall, but Mala Scott completely won me over. There’s just something about Luke and Emory’s dynamic that felt effortless yet deeply emotional. Watching Luke help Emory navigate the weight of her past was incredibly heartwarming, but let’s be real—the real magic was in their chemistry.

The tension? Immaculate. The spice? Had me giggling and blushing like a teenager. Their relationship carried this perfect balance of comfort and heat, making every moment between them feel electric. And as much as I adored their love story, I’m now absolutely itching to get a closer look at Allie and Ashton’s dynamic because, let’s be honest, Scott knows how to craft a romance that keeps you hooked.

I absolutely loved this book! I'm a sucker for a brother's best friend trope.
Emory grew up with a very protective older brother. He never let her date in high school, so when she went to college she ended up dating the wrong guy who really broke her. She wasn't interested in love, but her brother's best friend, Luke moved in next door to her after living away for the past 5 years. She had always had a crush on him and it turns out he had a crush on her too. He slowly starts to break her out of her shell but they have to see each other in secret.
I absolutely loved Luke and thought he was such a great match for Emory. I can't wait to read what comes next in Emberfield Falls!

I really liked this debut! The pacing was perfect, the character development was great, and the blossoming romance (and spice!) had me rooting for the couple.

It was a great romance, perfect for my vacation (which is exactly where I was when I read it!). I'd highly recommend for anyone who enjoys an easy read romance.

Another amazing 2025 debut author that I’m pissed I didn’t read sooner 🙃🙃
I’m in love with Malas writing! 😍
I’ll tell you what- I eat up a brother’s best friend every. single. time. And Luke and Emory were no different. They secretly pined after each other when they were younger, but haven’t seen each other in years. But once they do 😮‍💨 The spice in this was top tier 👏🏼 I was wholly unprepared. One word- edging. 😏 but anyyywaayyyyss back to the plot. So good. Family drama, a take no shit bestie, an overprotective big brother, and a shitty ex? What could go possibly go wrong?? 🤷🏻‍♀️
But speaking of take no shit bestie… I’m immediately jumping into book 2 👀🏃🏽‍♀️

I don’t even know what to say… this might be one of my new favorites! Luke and Emory are characters you can relate to. The chemistry between them, the touch her and ☠️ vibes and just the love Luke shows for Emory… ugh I couldn’t get enough. I literally have not stopped thinking about this book since I started it! The relationship was quick but didn’t feel too rushed either. And the spice… omg! I loved everything about this book. My only complaint would be the pregnancy… not my favorite for a book but I can move past that because I just loved these characters soooo much!

This was cute! I found myself enjoying the dynamic between the FMC and her roommate Allie a lot. Reminded me a bit of myself and friendships I have. The romance was also cute and I enjoyed the level of spice as well. I’ll definitely be looking out for book two in the series and I’m intrigued to find out who will be the MC’s in that book and I’d it’s who I think it’ll be. Definitely recommend adding this to your list if you’re in the mood for a quick romance read.

A gut-wretching love story filled with passion, fire and angst. The main couple have their own problems and I like how it's not sugar-coated and instead addressed between each other. They are willing to support one another, even if one of them is too traumatized to communicate it properly. A really good read that kept me at my seat and really sympathize with them: especially Emory because she really did go through so much in her first relationship. She deserves all the love in the world.

I read this book in a day and honestly I couldn’t put it down! Everything in this book was written so well. I loved the vulnerability and the realness you get from the characters.

Mala Scott did an amazing job with this!

I’m honored that I got to read it and it’s definitely worth the read! I won’t get into too much of the book because I don’t want to spoil it but the trauma both characters have and how they come together to work through their own struggles is done so beautifully!

Thank you BookSirens for this free ARC, I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I had to admit, for me, the first 60-70% of the book was a bit monotonous in how the characters narrated their actions or their emotions. There were also some parts that felt forced or lacked of logic. However, towards the end, the story get more interesting. The FMC’s character development was nice, and the emotional breakdown was described better.

I enjoyed this brother's best friend romance.

Emory had a lot to overcome but honestly, who can resist an old crush appeared as a biker with tattoos holding a title of "new neighbour".

The first encounter was funny and cute as were the others to follow. There's a lot of drama too that kept it interesting.

A good debut!

Many thanks Booksirens and author Mala Scott for the opportunity to read and share my thoughts.

I liked this book until I started to feel like the MMC was a little toxic and not in the way I would want.. it’s also very deep and a little triggering if you’ve experienced domestic abuse or emotional abuse. I also think the FMC has some double standards that she needs to resolve.. it was good just have mixed feelings about some of the characters. This being said I’m interested to read about Allie and Ashton!
