Spencer Edelton, Third Marquess of Corey, was steeped in a quagmire of conflicting emotions. He had a plan, an endeavor to perform. Acquire the exclusive services of Miss Beatrice Primrose for a sennight and break her. The mental and emotional damage she had wrought upon his younger brother, Nicholas, couldn’t go unpunished. The first part of his plan worked, albeit at twice the price. With Miss Primrose securely tucked away in Bridewell, his country estate, all that was left to do was to break her. Beatrice Primrose isn’t the strumpet that Lord Edelton and the patrons of the Inn of the Red Chrysanthemum, an exclusive London house of ill repute. She, like his lordship, had a mission. Nicholas and his cousin William Edelton has raped her sister, Charlotte, and they had to pay for their transgressions. For six months she had teased and promised Nicholas out of a small fortune, without actually submitting to his desires. This abruptly came to an end when he proposed that she be his mistress. She loathed the man and his cousin.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander. This sentiment is often stated and applies well to this story. After succumbing the strength and forcefully delightful manipulations of Spencer, Beatrice exacts her revenge.
I was once again swept away by the passion, desire, and emotion reluctantly displayed by the characters. The reader is torn between Lord Edelton’s feelings of noblesse oblige and Miss Primrose feelings of justice and equality. This book provides the reader with a short and steamy interlude that will leave them panting for more. On to part three……….
