The four Miller sisters are injured when their buggy is hit by a car driven by Noah Hostetler who is on rumspringa. The oldest sister, Hannah, is the first to recover physically, but is left with a fear of buggies and worse still, unforgiveness in her heart for Noah. Can Hannah recapture the love she once felt for Noah? Will love be enough to heal the wounds of the past?
The Way Home is a happy, feel-good Amish Christian romance.
USA Today Best-selling author Ruth Hartzler spends her days writing, walking her dog, and thinking of ways to murder somebody. That's because Ruth writes cozy mysteries and adventures. She is best known for her archaeological adventures, for which she relies upon her former career as a college professor of ancient languages and Biblical history.
Hannah and her sisters are recovering from an accident that has left tehm all with varing degrees of injury. Their buggy was hit by a car on a misty morning - the driver being their friend Noah who was on his rumspringa. Hannah is struggling with forgiving Noah and also with the fact that she still has feelings for him. her mother is constantly trying to pair her off with men she thinks will be suitable matches for her daughter. This I have to say really annoyed me and took away from the enjoyment of the story. Can Hannah rediscover her forgiveness, can she still love Noah? Hannah's struggle was well written and believeable. I liked her sisters and the girl Mary that came to help her Mum whilst her daughters were recuperating. I disliked one of the men her mother was pushing towards her, he was so forward and didn't act in the manner I thought an Amish man would.
Hannah and her sisters were in a terrible buggy accident when they were hit by a car driven by Hannah’s boyfriend Noah. The book is about the sisters’ healing and Hannah trying to forgive Noah. Meanwhile Hannah’s mother is playing matchmaker.
An enjoyable read and I'd read more of her books. However the author clearly forgets that her main character is on crutches for 99% of the book when she has her character running and walking and other things that are not possible to do on crutches... also can't keep details straight from one page to the next (ex. the main character orders raspberry cheesecake and then the waitress delivers strawberry cheesecake, but there's no mention of the error). A good editing would just make this book better all around. Still a decent story line though.
This book is the worst portrayal of the Amish community I’ve ever read. The main characters mothers were mean, meddlesome, judgmental women. Everyone acted worldly except the fathers. Hannah’s sisters & mother treated her poorly, were selfish towards her and terribly nosey. The Amish are usually disciplined, have strict control on their emotions and walk in forgiveness. Hannah understandably struggled with it due to the accident, but her mother and her best friend didn’t even try to forgive. And the lies that were told by so many people! This is not a good Amish book. Don’t waste your time.
From the first page, this author repeated herself and the repetition continued through the entire book. One incident at the beginning & one at the end, with nothing else throughout other than a very un-Christian-like mother determined to make her daughter marry someone she didn't even like. And Hannah never even changed her attitude toward Noah till the last few pages. But if you'd like to picture gross food combinations, then this is the book for you. There are plenty of food combinations mentioned, all of which made me ill by just reading them.
Well, I certainly am not like the rest of the people that read this book. The first half of the book was redundant. She kept repeating the woeful tale of bitterness etc. When she finally got past all the repeats, it was somewhat better. I did not think it was well written at all. Sorry. Would not recommend.
Such a beautiful love story that all begins from a bad accident. The Miller Sisters end up being hurt in a buggy accident on their way into town on a cold, foggy, misty, morning. The 4 girls, end up all being injured, and one is in the hospital. Unfortunately, the accident is caused by the oldest sister, Hannah's, boyfriend, Noah, who is on rumspringa, and driving a car he borrowed from one of his english friends. This story is a definite page turner!! It's full of hurt, love, forgiveness, and much more. The turmoil, frustration, hurt, and angry feelings that Hannah goes through with the accident, and it being her true love causing it, throws her into shambles. But like I said, this is an amazing story to read and there are more books that follow this one!! I most definitely enjoyed reading it!!
The Way Home was a quick Amish romance story to read. The Miller sisters were all injured in an accident. This story feature the struggles the oldest sister, Hannah, had in for forgiving her boyfriend from driving a car and hitting their buggy. I was troubled by the actions and behavior of the parents throughout the story along with other characters spreading untruths. Readers who like clean Amish romance will enjoy this easy read.
A friend loaned me her paperback copy of this book with a copyright of 2018; however, the paperback version is not listed for the copyright year. I was not required to write a review but have expressed my own opinion.
I loved this well written book! The Miller girls are all in a buggy driven by Hannah, the oldest. Noah Hostetler was driving a car during his Rumspringa. The day was very misty and the roads were icy. He slides into the buggy and all 4 girls are injured. Hannah had always thought she would eventually marry Noah but now she was unable to forgive him. To make matters worse, her mother is set on matchmaking her to a local boy. Can Hannah find it in her heart to forgive? I received a copy of this book from the author and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
I liked this book because it not only had romance, but it also showed Christians how to grow more mature. Here is a paragraph in the book that I thought was good:"There is but one judge, and that is God. Unforgiveness is a form of judgment. Every time you feel anger, unforgiveness, or resentment, you at once must give it to God, even if it is many times in one day, even if it is many times, day after day.”. Forgiveness is a process, but it is one that must be done!
How do you forgive someone you really like but on a foggy day runs the car he is driving into the back of your buggy leaving you and your sisters with possible life threatening injuries? And then, there is the guy that likes you that you don't like back (as well as both of your mothers playing matchmaker). For a simple life, it sure gets complicated for Hannah especially with Noah. Ruth Hartzler is very good at bringing these stories to life. I look forward to seeing how Matchmaker Ms. Miller finds mates for her other daughters.
I enjoyed the development of the characters and the story line. However, I felt as though there was too much repetition in the dialogue and there was a great need for better editing to catch the many mistakes. Hannah was such a sweet character. She was often taken advantage of by others due to her compliant nature. It made me want life to be happier for her. There was a good lesson for all of us on forgiveness.
Noah borrowed a car, the roads were icy that early in the morning, as was the fog on the windshield. Collided with a buggy and the four girls went flying. For Hannah thought of marriage to Noah, being carefree, had it mapped out, before. The demand on Hannah seemed like a lot. They preach forgiveness and this was a big one for .Hannah and Noah. Good characters of how they matured and forgave what happened.
This is a good story. It has an abundance of naivety and simplicity. Ruth Hartzler is very good with this genre and knows exactly what she's writing about. That being said, I found the protagonist just a little bit whiney and her mother manipulative and overbearing. But maybe I'm a little too much in the Englisher world and don't appreciate the simple teaching and way of life that the Amish have. Still It all has a happy ending and that's really what counts.
Hannah Miller is in love with Noah Hostetler and wishes to be with him in the future. An accident that injures Hannah and her sisters is found to be at Noah's hands. While Hannah knows it was an accident her heart and the injuries to her and her sisters is causing a conflict with her heart. She believes she must ward off Noah now. They must both learn forgiveness, patience and have a little faith.
An easy read while recuperating. One fateful morning changed all their lives. Hannah & her sisters are in a buggy in the early morning mist; Noah is on his rumspringa and behind the wheel of a car that hits the buggy injuring all the girls. Hannah had feelings for Noah before the accident; can she ever forgive him?
Four Amish girls in a buggy early on a foggy, frosty morning and a young Amish man on his rumspringa driving carefully to work when an accident happens. What follows is the work of forgiveness, some medd, meddling mothers and two Amish young people trying to find a way forward together. At times I wanted to slap several people to get off their high horse but in the end, a nice read.
Matchmakers between two good friends hurt those they tried to match. Forgiveness is the underlining theme in this book. When Hannah finally humbled herself and sought counsel, she was able to forgive even though her mother wasn't. There is also a quiet matchmaker who does so properly.
I loved the characters..I was a little frustrated at some manipulation against the 2 main characters..the way two mother's tried to set up daughter and son seemed a little anti Amish to me, but it made for some drama and suspense.
The theme of this story. After a buggy accident Hanna cannot forgive her friend, Noah who caused the accident. Meanwhile her Mother is trying to get her interested in other boys.
I hardly knew it was about to end as I read it so fast. My attention was held the while time as I wondered what came next. I want ti read the while series now and the cozy mysteries as well.
I enjoyed this book. I liked how it flowed when reading. It was not one that would be happy, then a crisis, then joy, then a disaster, then engagement, then run away, etc.......those kind of books drive me crazy. I will read the next series. J 😉
This book would be fine for any age group to read. It is a well written good storyline! I appreciate that she has knowledge of Amish family life and the interactions
Wonderful story. Learned about Amish life. Hannah and Noah were perfect for each other. David got his just dessert. Hannah's mother was much too stern. The Bishop was surprisingly understanding and the person Hannah needed.
Well written book and the characters in the book were developed well. Enjoyed reading about each person and their thoughts. Definitely want to read more books by this author.
Excellent book. Clean and down to earth Christian romance. Forgiveness is crucial for those who love God. Main character finally realized what God required of her.
I've read a few other books by Ruth Hartzler but I've struggled with this one.
I admit that I'm only half way through. I'm not declaring dnf - just that, even though it's shortish, I'm putting it aside. Plenty of other books to read.
