If I could give this 6 stars, I would. Charles Sheehan Miles is seriously the most brilliant indie author out there right now. This novel, the next in the Rachel's Peril Series picks right up where Girl of Lies left us gasping and begging for more. The story was just as gripping and thrilling as the last one, if not more so. We learn so much more about this crazy family and the web of lies surrounding Adelina and her daughters. The character development is flawless and you become drawn and invested in these fictional people. It is so enthralling that I even find myself thinking about these characters long after putting the book down. As CSM switches POV's you are able to get a glimpse into each character's perception and personality and the writing is so well done that the transition is seamless and fluid. It is as if you are watching a movie. And academy award winning action suspense thriller that you just don't want to end. You will not want to put this book down, so carve out some time and enjoy the ride. You can't possibly be disappointed! I can't even wait for Girl of Vengeance!

Unbelievable...but I actually sympathize with Adelina...this series is unbelievably good...I'm just praying that my heart isn't smashed like it was in The Last Hour. The writing, the intrigue, the action...just in incredible. And I'm a political junkie as well as a lover of romance so this book has it all...can't wait till the next one comes out!

I’ve never personally met Charles Sheehan-Miles, but I find that he’s an amazing author. He first came to my notice with a pair of near-future SF/ thriller titles. Then he switched gears radically and cranked out a trio of romance novels featuring the Thompson Sisters. Now, he’s back in thriller territory, with another trilogy of books in which he’s wrapping up the very complicated story of that star-crossed family.

Girl of Rage is the middle book of this trilogy. The book features Andrea Thompson, who at age 16 has now twice been the target of professional assassins. To say she’s having a rough few weeks is perhaps an understatement. One would think that the daughter of the soon-to-be Secretary of Defense wouldn’t be having these kind of issues. One would be wrong.

Of course, Andrea is discovering that much of what she thought she knew about her family is dead wrong, including who her real father is. Apparently something about that fact is worth trying to very publicly kill her over. Also in peril is her mother Adelina, who we discover married Mister Thompson in Spain at the age of 16. Adelina is in California, dodging one assassin, while Andrea and her ex-soldier brother-in-law are dodging others in Washington DC. Also involved are not one but two princes, Saudi and British.

The story is fast-paced, although both action and characters are kept believable. Girl of Rage is a middle book in a trilogy, and so both relies on the previous book and ends at a cliff. But since they’re ebooks and priced right, don’t let that stop you from enjoying the latest from Charles Sheehan-Miles, America’s most criminally neglected author.

5 Stars!

Girl of Rage is book two in the Rachel’s Peril series by Charles Sheehan-Miles. It is not a stand alone book and must be read in series order.

The Rachel’s Peril series is a spinoff of the Thompson Sisters series. It is quite different from the Thompson Sisters series. The Rachel’s Peril series features the characters from the Thompson Sisters and adds new characters that are dynamic. The Rachel Peril series is a psychological thriller and political thriller blended with romantic suspense. You do not need to read the Thompson Sisters series to begin the Rachel’s Peril series. Charles Sheehan-Miles masterfully brings these characters and their backgrounds to life. You learn enough about each and every character to become invested in the Rachel’s Peril series. If you have not read the Thompson Sisters series, the Rachel’s Peril series will wet your appetite and send you one clicking this series.

Girl of Rage picks up where Girl of Lies (see review below) left off. The cliffhanger was intense and left the readers floored. The readers will appreciate the resolution of the cliffhanger is forthcoming in the beginning of the book. But that is only the beginning. The action picks up the pace and escalates. The intensity will leave the reader biting their nails, sitting on the edge of their seats, and invested in each and every character.

As the story begins to unravel, deep dark secrets will be revealed. The Thompson sisters are learning that their family life has been nothing but lies. Their father’s political career and dark secrets has not only shaped their lives but is threatening their future independent lives. He has been a puppet master with a cruel agenda. His sins are now reflecting on them. They will be the ones to pay the price.

As Richard Thompson and Adelina Thompsons secrets are revealed, the reader gets a true understanding of why the Thompson family had such a dysfunctional home life. While one parent, Richard, is still the cruel and ruthless master will an agenda that is unforgivable, we see an entirely different view of their mother, Adelina. She is on the path of redemption and is seeking to right her wrongs.

Each of the Thompson sisters have their own personal life dilemmas they are dealing with. There are business problems, alcoholism, grief, and baby Rachel’s life threatening illness. Rachel’s illness is the thing that brought them all together in the first place. Now the entire family is facing extinction. They are on the run, scattered, and in peril.

Lives were built on a web of lies and their lives are being blown apart. Everything they thought they knew about their family is questionable. They have been brought together for one sole purpose . Instead they are dropped into a war zone where the enemy is still unknown.

This book is written in multiple points of view. We meet characters from the past as well as the present. Each of the characters has integral role in the story.

Readers may question where is the romance? It is delivered throughout this series, through each of the sisters, in very subtle undertones. It is very clear that their love lives are dedicated, strong, and cherished.

Charles Sheehan-Miles has woven an intense story that is highly unpredictable. He keeps the reader captivated to the very end. He raises more questions and all the pieces of the puzzle are not yet revealed. I cannot wait for the next book to see how this story is going to play out. Look for Girl of Vengeance in August.

If you are new to Charles Sheehan-Miles writing, I highly recommend the Thompson Sisters series. It will not disappoint!

Charles Sheehan-Miles does it again with another brilliant book! I think it's impossible for him to disappoint me. This book is just as explosive and action-packed as Girl of Lies if not MORE! This book was fast paced and impossible to put down. It picks up where Girl of Lies ends. I'm usually pretty forgetful about books in a series and need a re-read, but chose not to with this and found it easy to immerse myself in this story as little details and snippets mentioned were enough to bring everything back to me without being too descriptive or repetitive.

I honestly didn't even know I liked political fiction until this series came along, but I absolutely love all the mystery, suspense, and unexpected connections as the story unfolds. We get a few answers from book 1, but no worries the evil Charles Sheehan-Miles replaces those with many more questions to fill your brain. ;) One of my complaints with the first book was the difficulty trying to keep up with all the characters. This one was definitely an easier read now that I'm familiar with everyone.. although some of their roles are still a mystery.

This book is told in multiple POVs which I really enjoyed. It adds so much to the story and I found myself completely getting caught up in the lives of all the new/side characters. We still get plenty of the Thompson has they struggle to survive and uncover the secrets surrounding their family.. and there is still a little romance in this book although it's not the focus.

Overall, I think this is a series that anyone can enjoy. The writing and storytelling is impressive, and this book is definitely one I could see on the big screen. You definitely must read Girl of Lies in before reading this book. The Thompson Sister books are optional, but they are fantastic and I would recommend them. Reading the Thompson Sister books will also increase the emotional connection to the characters.

We start immediately where Girl of Lies finishes, with Carrie's baby sister coming home to see if her bloody group is a match for little Rachel.

When immediately we spend some time with Andrea, the youngest of the Thompson girls, who has been hidden away for most of her life, living with family in Spain.

We learn why, as we go through the book, we get to find out why Mom and Dad are cold and distant.##Loved how we get a bit more of Dylan in this and hoping to see more of him in 'Vengance'

Carrie still amazes me, such a very strong, solid, independent lady with a fierce protective streak in her. She has been like that with her sisters and now with her Daughter

Alexander and Sara, both don't have very big parts in this part, that's not to say that they are not insignificant, the dialogue between Dylan and Alexander is very touching.

I had not warmed to Adelina, with her children throughout the three girls books. BUT she redeemed herself with how she dealt with Jessica, even telling her some of her past secrets.

I do believe that Richard is going to get what's coming to him, he certainly don't deserve to get a happy and carefree future.

Again, I hadn't appreciated how strong and independent Julia was, although things went totally against her and Crank, and I feel there's a lot of wrongs to be righted! She has such a good business head on her! I dont believe she will accept being accused of being in with her dad's deals!

Even though ther is a large political back story in this book, its all about the Love, Strength and togetherness they endure as a family, which I thinl began in Carrie and Ray's book, but having said that I dont believe that Richard will ever find peace, he is not a man of integrity, compassion or capable of love. It does make you wonder what happened to him in his childhood to have created such a monster!

This is the terrific book two in the Rachel's Peril Series. You need to read Girl of Lies before you read this one.

Although I have a long list of books to read I couldn't resist re-reading Girl of Lies before reading this.

This is an absolutely brilliant and superbly well written story. I thoroughly love this series. It's an action packed story that will have you sitting at the edge of your seat. Told in many points if view we really do get a great insight into the characters. . I love the Thompson family. So happy to read more about Crank & Julia- they are my favourite.

I can pick up any of this authors books and I know I'm going to love it. This author sure knows how to tell a story. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This book starts off right after the pulse pounding cliffhanger inGirl of Lies. Andrea Thompson came into the US to help her sister and found herself right in the middle of a political scandal in the making. She is in danger and has gone through terrible experiences in the past few days and her whole family is now under attack in various ways. And Andrea wants answers, as do the rest of the Thompson clan.

We see the fate of all those scattered after the evens from the first book. All of them are separated into various clusters dealing with multiple issues and fall out, being hit with accusations, and trying to stay safe from those that want to harm them. Their lives were completely spiraling out of control and it is one situation after another causing stress, anxiety, and outrage.

This installment is again told in multiple points of view of many characters in the present with some in the past. But they are clearly marked with character and date. I found this much easier to keep up with this time now that I know who all of the players are. The story is complicated and convoluted, but intriguing and action-packed. The secrets and mysteries as slowly unraveled throughout as the characters try to piece together what has happened in the past and figure out who is out to get them in the present.

We get even more history with Richard and Adelina Thompson: the parents from the original series. But basically nothing about them was what it seemed. What was beneath the surface was far darker and damaged than it appeared from the original series. Richard Thompson was a complicated man with many secrets. And Adelina Thomspon had reason to be detached and distant from her own life and children.

This was as much Adelina's story as it was Andrea's. We continue to revisit Adelina's past and her secrets are slowly revealed. She was a woman who suffered and coped in various ways ruining her relationships with her daughters. But the Adelina facing this new challenge is a different woman trying to make some amends. I actually found myself admiring her and I never thought that would be possible.

This series features the Thompson sisters on the edge. Everything they thought they knew about their family is questionable and built on a web of lies. Only Charles Sheehan-Miles could take his beloved characters, drop them in the middle of an action-packed political intrigue series, blow their lives apart, and watch the fall out. They are all fighting various battles and threats. But one thing about this family that we have always known is that despite their issues, they are a tough group. This book is full of political intrigue, suspense, action, danger, secrets, and lies. Someone is trying to take down the Thompsons and those associated with them to keep secrets buried. And they are willing to go to any extremes to do so.

We get many answers as the characters do and from the flashbacks. But then of course, also comes more questions. And the story still is far from finished or resolved. I got sucked into this installment faster than the first one, and it kept me engaged as I was trying to put all of the pieces together to form the big picture. There were plenty of twists, surprises, and interesting connections. And it kept me guessing and biting my nails in suspense. And when I got to the end, I was not ready for it to be over. I am looking forward to see how it all plays out in Girl of Vengeance.

How much did I love this book? Let me count the ways…

The way he kept me on my toes and turned me into a conspiracy theorist.

Truths turned into lies, and even the lies ran deeper than I could imagine. There is a depth in his writing that you don’t find often. From the multi-faceted characters to the environment to everything in between. No stone is left unturned, and even though you’re left with more questions than answers, you keep coming back for more. CSM’s writing is so fulfilling that even when you are hanging by a thread you enjoy the delicious torture.

The vulnerability and strength of Andrea.

Only sixteen years old and thrust into a family she doesn’t know, this young woman has continued to amaze me. Seemingly cast aside by those who should love her unconditionally, Andrea still remains cautiously optimistic. She doesn’t view the world through rose colored glasses and possesses a realism not usually afforded others her age.

The quiet stoicism of Carrie.

Though still reeling from the death of her husband, her world doesn’t stop moving. Even when chaos surrounds them, she commands the room. The scenes in which her inner emotions are exposed are raw and gritty and you won’t leave without shedding more than a few tears.

The reflections of Julia.

I loved that, more than anyone else, she seemed to come to the realization that not everything was as it seemed. Memories that once seemed so black and white turned gray, and Julia was left questioning everything and everyone. Empathy began to creep in and I feel like forgiveness is around the corner.

The protectiveness of Dylan.

Here’s a character that life has dumped all over, yet he keeps fighting. Without a second thought to his well-being, he thinks in the moment and takes charge. What I love about CSM’s writing is strength he develops in his characters. They become living, breathing beings that don’t merely exist between the pages. His stories come to life, and the multi-dimensional movie plays out in real time, keeping you on the edge of your seat.

The rawness of Adelina.

Like an onion, we are rapidly peeling her layers. Here is a character that throughout ALL CSM’s books, has been somewhat of a villain. Her inner musings are what drives this series, and you will find yourself bouncing between loving and hating her. Honestly, even two books in, I am still not sure what side of the fence I stand on. I certainly know and understand more, but there are still plenty of truths to be revealed.

The insightful nature of Sarah.

Surprisingly the voice of reason, she brought a much needed humor to this book. Her snarky attitude and call-it-like-I-see-it persona were refreshing. Even when people would lie to her, she could see right through them. Introduced in the last book, she really shines in this one. Her special connection with Dylan was one of my favorite parts!

The realism of the situation.

CSM doesn’t sugarcoat anything for the readers, nor does he ease you into it. From the beginning of this series we were quite literally knocked on our tails with supposed truths and revelations. Everything we thought to be true wasn’t and we had to learn the characters all over again. The authenticity that CSM brings to his books is that of someone who has not only done his research, but lived and breathed it to an extent. The background and locations of the story not only add to the experience, but they are almost a character themselves.

We are two-thirds of the way through this adventure and I can’t even begin to imagine where he’ll take us next. I know one thing for certain though; wild horses couldn’t keep me away!

Girl of Rage is the superbly-written second installment of Charles Sheehan-Miles’ Rachel’s Peril series. This book continues where the first book, Girl of Lies, leaves off and follows the lives of the Thompson sisters who we all met and fell in love with in the Thompson Sisters series.

This series is very different than CSM’s Thompson Sisters series. This series is intense, fast-paced and very complex. It is the epitome of a page turner and had my heart literally pounding more than once. This book alternates between several points of view and although I first thought this might get a little confusing I ended up loving that aspect of the story. This story has so many twists and turns and some parts are just information overload. Without the different points of view I think it may have been hard to truly grasp all of the intricate details that go into the story and also hard to slow myself down long enough to allow all of the information to seep in.

I have to make note that CSM’s Thompson Series is one of my all-time favorites. I feel so invested in this family and they are truly some of my favorite characters to read about. That being said it is hard for me to rate this series separately from his first series. For me, this book is a 5-star read, hands down. However, the tidbits of information that we get about some of the characters that mean so much to me and make it 5 stars most likely wouldn’t hold the same importance to someone who hasn’t read the other Thompson Sisters books. The emotions that I feel and the “AHA moments” that this book creates might not be as strong for someone that doesn’t have the whole background story of these characters. I am not saying this to encourage new readers to stay away from this series…not at all. What I’m encouraging is for you all to read the first Thompson Sisters series first and then dive in to these books. There really is no way you could be disappointed, these books have it all.

I also want to comment on something else... I try to never compare one author to another in fear of offending either author but I just can’t help myself this time. In high school I was obsessed with John Grisham books. OBSESSED. I read them for pleasure and when an assignment came up that we could choose our own reading material I would somehow find a roundabout way to make a Grisham book I hadn't read yet meet the criteria. I eventually grew tired of reading those kinds of books and started branching out into different genres but always remembered Grisham my first “adult” favorite author. CSM, I hope that you don’t hate John Grisham and that this doesn't offend you but I want to say that these stories remind me of his political thrillers. Your words, your crazy twists and turns and the time that you put into adding the important details all blow me away in the way only his books have ever done. I can only hope that one day your books make it big time like his do and get the attention that they truly deserve.

So anyways, if you are a romance reader that has read CSM’s Thompson Sisters series but don’t think you’ll enjoy these political thrillers please take a chance on them. They are amazing…truly amazing. If you haven’t read any of CSM’s books and would rather only read the political thrillers that is okay too but if you have the time to read his other books first I’d highly recommend that so you get the full effect and fall in love with this family like I have. None of CSM’s books are cookie-cutter novels and they all hold something truly special and unique that I honestly feel everyone would enjoy.

Another 5-Star read from Charles Sheehan-Miles. It is official, I love everything he writes.

Charles Sheehan-Miles is simply amazing.  Girl of Rage is EPIC.  The entire series so far is EPIC but this book, this book is just phenomenal in my opinion.  You're immediately sucked right back into the story as if you never stopped.  The story picks up pretty much where Girl of Lies leaves off, with Andrea and Dylan on the run.  Julia and Crank are trying to get back to the East Coast.  Carrie, Alexandra, and baby Rachel are at the safe house.  Adelina and Jessica are also on the run and hiding. No one is safe and we still don't really know who the bad guys are.  Although lots of questions do get answered.

Girl of Rage is not an easy read.  You must read book one, Girl of Lies first to get the background and foundation of the story.  Girl of Rage is just a continuation of the saga.  I don't even really know how to explain all of it.  But we learn in book one that Richard Thompson is not Carrie or Andrea's father.  We know that Richard was involved in a government cover up in the Wakhan Corrider.  There are several players including; Prince George-Phillip and Ahmad Shah Massoud.  It feels like everyone is trying to cover themselves and we don't even know who all the players are although we do know more about the bad guys.

There are so many secrets and for the girls, the Thompson sisters, it's all very confusing.  They know how they grew up, with a mother they think is crazy and a detached father.  Now the rug has been ripped out from under them as they learn that their father raped their mother and beat her repeatedly over the years.  They now know their mom had an affair.  They know their father is involved in a scandal.  The government it seems is determined to take them all down.  On top of all of that someone is trying to kill them.

I said this before and I'll say it again, this series is a movie in the making.  I felt like I was reading a movie script.  Charles Sheehan-Miles has told an amazingly good story here.  It's obvious he's put in a lot of effort the writing is impeccable.  What I really love the most is the underlying love story.  Because a midst all the drama, lies, intrigue, there IS indeed a love story.

I can't wait to see how this all plays out.  Obviously I don't want any harm to come to these girls but I wouldn't be surprised if there's more in store for them before it gets any better.  You can trust no one in this series.  And their allies may just be in the ones they least trust.

MICHELLE'S REVIEW

Warning: This is not a standalone. If you have not read Girl of Lies you will be really mad at yourself for reading this review so don't do it. You don't need to read the Thompson Sisters series but you should cause they're good books.

Girl of Rage picks up exactly where Girl of Lies ends. You can read my review of book 1 HERE

Once again, Charles has knocked it out of the park. Just when you thought this story couldn't get anymore twisted and depraved, just when you thought maybe you know what's happening, more twists and turns get thrown in and you are left feeling like your whole life is a lie.

I seriously don't trust anyone after reading this book. No one. And it's worse because I live in DC so clearly everyone is an undercover CIA operative.

If you read the Thompson Sisters books, you probably hated Adelina. She came off as a total monster and uncaring mother. Richard was slightly more bearable. Putting yourself in the shoes of the sisters- I can't imagine how it would feel to know that your mother is not this evil person you thought she was and that your father is a liar and a monster.

And for two of the girls- finding out your father isn't even who you thought he was.

Seriously- this book. Amazing.

There is plenty of action in this book but there is also a lot of the story being filled. We're finding out a lot more about Adelina and her past and also a lot more about the "bad guys" and how they are all basically playing each other. Fans of Julia and Carrie will love them even more. I hope we get more of Alex and Dylan in the next book. And Andrea is so amazing. No way you can't love her. She's just a bad ass and your heart breaks for her as she discovers more and more of the truth.

This series is a perfect read for anyone who loves a political drama. There isn't sex in here but once again, we are getting touches of Adelina's past romance with George- Phillip.

I am so pro Team Adelina. I find her strength remarkable. She was broken by her husband and while she wasn't a great mother because of him and what he did to her- she truly tried her best to at least be there. Being a victim of extreme abuse-both physical and mental- she did the best she could.

I cannot wait for the next installment. There are so many secrets left to reveal and I can't wait for them.

So, the youngest member of the Thompson clan tries to search to find the answers – is she, or are they all ready to finally know the truth even though it may have the capacity to shatter them all?

I haven’t met stronger sisters than the Thompson, they might have their baggage and issues both in the past and the present, but they can withstand any storm that has been thrown at them. Andrea – OMG – I completely adore this girl, she’s made of the strongest stuff among all of them, and she’s the youngest.

The secrets, and the glimpse from the past will show us what everyone has been through, and why their mother behaved as she had always had. It might have been a little late for regrets, after all, they were all grown up. But I completely believed that she had changed, and really trying to make amends, now I wonder how would she react when she will finally know who stepped foot in the US to make sure she, and her daughters are safe…

THIS BOOK WAS WORTH THE WAIT!

Charles Sheehan Miles makes the best rollercoaster to ride and the best adventure experience – enough to give you all the thrill, suspense that you can handle in one read. I think my heart didn’t go back to its normal rhythm until I had finally reached the end of the novel. WOW.

I have been hanging on to my dear life when the first book end, and I was gifted by more secrets, more running, and more interesting ‘facts’ with the second book in this trilogy. Considering that everything happened in just four days – how can he manage to compress all those heart-stopping, mind-numbing and earth-shattering revelations, deceptions and betrayals in those pages, I have no clue, but one thing is for sure – once you pick this up, your heart must be ready – because Charles Sheehan Miles doesn’t do mediocre, and even if it’s just the second book in the series, he will give you the same amount of emotion, suspense and thrill that he offered you in the first book, and surely in the last book of this trilogy.

So I actually made myself reread Girl of Lies before letting myself start this book. Even though it was sitting in my Kindle app begging to be opened. But I'm glad I did because the 2nd pass sure helped me get the characters straight before diving headfirst back into the lives of the Thompson sisters.

The suspense and action from the first book only intensifies in GoR and I was so engrossed in it at times that I couldn't put it down. Didn't want to put it down. I've been invested in these characters for some time, having read the books for Alex, Carrie (my favorite even though it tore my heart out), and both for Julia. They almost feel like an extension of my own family and I hope that after all the action dies down we will get books for Sarah, Jessica, and Andrea. At this point I think I'd even read one about Oswald O'Leary even though I want to punch him in the throat.

Andrea is one tough girl. Having taken down 2 grown men in the first book, she continues to surprise with her ability to think, process, and act on her feet. I see a bright future for Andrea and I can't wait to read more about her.

Crank and Julia....well, I just love them. I love how over the course of these books we watched them fall in love, struggle, and come out on the other side a strong mature couple. Having been married over 20 years, I recognize the strength of their relationship as they work through the tragedies and support each other through them. Mature love may not be romantic and exciting, but there's something to be said about a relationship that has withstood so much difficulty.

Carrie....bless her, she just keeps chugging along. She is so tough but so broken in this book and you just want to hug her. I hope that sometime in the future we will read another book about her moving on with her life after she has had a chance to properly grieve Ray.

Alex and Dylan are struggling but in this book we clearly see the love they have for one another and I have my fingers crossed for them.

Sarah is spunky and loyal and Jessica is so lost and confused. I'm anxious to see where those stories lead.

Lastly, I actually began to feel sorry for Adelina in this book. Actually, I guess I started feeling that way in the first book. I hated her after reading Julia's story, but these books have shed a tremendous amount of light on her and shown the depth of her suffering.

I eagerly await the 3rd installment of this series. With non-stop action and suspense I have no doubt it will be as much a page turner as the first two.

This series is quite different from the other books in the Thompson sisters series. Those were more focused on romance, this series is more action packed, with lots of political intrigue. But at its heart, it's still about the women of the Thompson family, whom I've totally grown to love. This book picks up right where the last one left off, and it's edge-of-your-seat the whole way through.

Adelina, the family matriarch, is a character that I hated in previous books. As more of her life gets revealed, I find myself feeling pity for her more than anything else. She's been a terrible mother, but she acknowledges that, and she's been married to a monster for more than 30 years.

Julia and Crank (who provides a few much needed comic moments in this book) have found out quite a few of Richard Thompson's secrets and find themselves totally embroiled in the scandal. Julia's phone conversation with Harry (from A Song for Julia) was heartbreaking and empowering at the same time. I love how Julia steps into the big sister/family fixer role.

Carrie is still fearing for her daughter's health, still grieving Ray, and trying to find answers about who her father is. I think I saw some sparks between Carrie and Anthony (the Post reporter). She so deserves some happiness in her life!

Alex is frantic about Dylan (who is finally pulling his head out of his butt in regards to his behavior toward his wife), who is on the run with Andrea. Alex is also reeling from the bombshells dropped about her father, and she seems kind of torn on who to believe.

Sarah isn't in this book too much, but she also provides some comic relief here. I love her feisty attitude, and am hoping she gets her own book eventually.

Jessica is a total mess. Detoxing from meth, she's on the run with Adelina, trying to get out of the country. Jessica's moods swing from rage toward her mother, to feeling sorry for her and confused about her father. I liked seeing the protective side (finally!) from Adelina when it came to Jessica.

Andrea is an awesome character. So confused about her family, wondering why they never wanted her around. The chapters with her and Dylan were some of the most intense. And the scene with her at the end was perfect, I can't wait to see what happens next.

The political drama, cover ups, backstabbing, it was all pretty riveting to me. It's scary to think how much power the government holds and how much is kept from the public.

This book ends on a major cliffhanger, but I can't complain about getting more books with these characters I love.

This was a page turner in the best sense of the term. From start to finish I could not put Girl of Rage down. (It may have accompanied me through my kids’ bedtime routines, kept me up past my bedtime, and infiltrated my dreams even after I had finished.) Where the middle installment of many trilogies fall flat, this one captured my attention and held on until I lost several hours buried in the book.

Girl of Rage picks up right where Girl of Lies left off. And from the very beginning the action is on. I was grateful for the way it picked up. It’s been nearly half a year since I read Girl of Lies, and as I opened to the first page, I couldn’t remember exactly what had happened, except that I was worried about Dylan. The ending points of the first book were subtly referred to without taking up a lot of description, so that my memory came back without it being too much retelling for people who may read them back to back.

Each sister and their parents have their own mysteries to work through. Rachel’s illness has taken a backseat to the turmoil the family finds itself in. Julia and Crank face issues with their business. Andrea and Dylan are still on the run and out of contact with the rest of the family, causing added stress for Alexandra. Adelina and Jessica are also running on the opposite coast. And amidst all the danger to the girls, no one hears from their father.

The secrets that are revealed in Girl of Rage begin to answer the question about what is really going on, but there are just as many new questions as there are answered ones, and the truth is far from clear.

The one thing some might question about Girl of Rage is where is the romance. Several potential romantic pairings have been hinted at, but the root conflict in Rachel’s Peril as a whole is the family secrets, which don’t need to be confused with romantic overtones. I never missed a romantic storyline through either Girl of Lies or Girl of Rage. There was far too much action to miss anything!

This series is one of my favorite spin-offs. It has taken the families created in the original trilogy and turned everything we thought we knew on it’s head. It was so fast paced, filled with so much mystery and hidden truths that I couldn’t help being sucked right back into the Thompsons’ lives.

I was gifted a copy in exchange for my honest review. This review is also posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.

Read this in one day! Amazing follow up to Girl of Lies and I can't wait for book three.

Expanded review coming :)

~*~*~
I am a huge fan of Charles Sheehan Miles. His Thompson Sisters trilogy sucked me into this totally dysfunctional family and his follow up series Rachel’s Peril is a complete roller coaster of events. The first book in the series Girl of Rage set the tone and began a fast paced series of events that changed everything you thought you knew about this family. Girl of Lies continues in the same vein, exposing characters stories little by little until your impressions are flipped on their heads.

The story follows numerous paths, weaving each character’s story together into a brilliant tapestry of events. Andrea and Carrie are learning the secrets of their parentage, ultimately discovering who their real father is. The other sisters are also traumatized by the many secrets uncovered. Their father, Richard Thompson, is not the man any of them thought he was. And their mother, Adelina, is not the woman they all believed her to be. Her moods, her behaviours, her distance, is somewhat explained by details kept hidden by both their parents.

I was never a huge fan of Adelina. She wasn’t given much of the story previously, only that her behaviour and attitude was the cause of many of the girls issues through their lives. She wasn’t a likeable woman. Now, this book gives us her story so we, as well as the sisters, are all finding out the truth. She is much more sympathetic. I’m waiting to see how Richard is painted. To me, he was a distant father figure but not inherently bad. Now I am questioning all of my impressions.

This book is another example of fantastic writing and a tight, rapid fire plot. All the dribbles given in the previous books are linking up so it makes sense. I can’t wait for the third book in the series to be released but I’m also dreading it because it will mean an end to characters I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about and living with.

5 stars!

Girl of Rage starts where Girl of Lies left off in the story of the Thompson sisters, as powerful men in our government and foreign government attacks them in an attempt to cover up a wartime bombing of a village with sarin, a deadly biological weapon. Richard Thompson was one of the men involved in supplying the gas for the attack.

Andrea, at sixteen flew to the United States from her home in Spain to help her older sister Carrie, was kidnapped upon arrival and escaped. Then Carrie's townhouse was attacked and she went over the penthouse balcony using a blanket to go to the floor below and is on the run with her brother-in-law, Dylan.

The IRS is after Julia and her husband, cash and drugs were planted in the room Andrea was using at the penthouse and their mother and very ill sister, Jessica are running for Canada.

Questions to be answered:

Why did their mother lie and stay with Richard Thompson when he beat and raped her?
Who is Carrie and Andrea's father?
Who is behind the attacks on the family?
How will they find a way to fight back and restore order and peace to their lives?

I can't wait to read Girl of Vengeance to find out how this all ends for the six sisters and their mother.

This series is like crack. I can't put it down. As a reader I've been sucked into this fictional world where the Thompson Sisters are my BFFs. When they hurt, so do I.

The writing is flawless. As a reader, I appreciate the depth of the characters, how connected to them I feel, and the ease at which I am following along in the series. As an author, I am in awe at how CSM managed to keep so many characters and story lines straight, as well as keep them clear to the reader. I have a feeling he is well versed on foreign affairs, but still, there is so much info that it's astounding.

Now, you might see "foreign affairs" and think WTF but it's not what you think. Whatever you think, this series will blow your mind.

I strongly recommend reading the other Thompson Sisters books, but these can be read as a standalone trilogy. After reading the Thompson Sister tho, I don't know why you wouldn't read them cuz they are the shit. I read backwards and read Julia's song last. It was a blessing tho as it remains my favorite.

In this book, I manage to feel sorry for Adelina, something I thought impossible. As with Girl of Lies, be prepared to cry. Not hard core sobbing (ok, maybe) but def misty eyed in various places.

WOW!! wow wow....5++ stars

Great second book in the trilogy (which is a continuation of the Thompson Sisters books)

Thoughts about this book

* I was glad that we got some answers, but also new questions. Not everything is answered. But it also wasn't a 'typical' second book which can sometimes be full of fluff and/or just becomes the link between a great first book and a great third book. THIS second installment was it's own story. I felt satisfied but also anxiously awaiting more.

*as the story unfolds (through multiple POVs) it becomes more complicated and more heartbreaking. The story is so intricately woven. Charles is a master storyteller

*Best to read the Thompson Sisters books before this trilogy. This trilogy references things that happen previously and add some context. BUT you should also read them because they are amazing

highly recommended....and although there is a cliffhanger, the third book will be out soon

4.5 out of 5 stars! The plot is getting thicker and more muddled. Sadly my political knowledge isn't that great. I'm one of those that tends to skim the news and I read for pleasure, mostly romance. These last three books in the Thompson sisters series wouldn't technically be considered romance and yet, there is definite romance involved. The more than a quick look, a sigh and a jump in the sack type romance. These relationships are built on trust, respect and commitment (or lack there of). This book is full of action and political intrigue and in the hands of a less capable author, I would have given up. More characters are introduced and it could have become a confusing mess. However, this author is a skilled storyteller and the pacing of the book is just right. I was able to keep the characters straight in my mind, even as more are added. I will be diving into the final book to see where it goes.

OK I finished this bad boy in one night and let me tell you!!! Charles Sheehan-Miles knows how to tell a story! I COULD NOT put "Girl of Rage" down. The story was action packed from beginning to end.

The story immediately picks up from book one where Andrea escapes and Dylan stays behind defending her. I'm so glad to know that he didn't die protecting her. All of the sisters are intricately involved throughout this story. It's such a great read and flows beautifully.

Book two delves into Adelina's story. Okay so maybe she isn't the horrible witch we all thought she was. I mean I did NOT expect YOU-KNOW-WHO to be Carrie and Andrea's baby daddy! But I digress... There is so much going on but it beautifully comes together. I CANNOT WAIT for book three of this series. I love, love, love how the Thompson Sisters series has become so much more!

BEYOND AMAZING - COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN, NEED THE THIRD BOOK LIKE YESTERDAY!!!
Charles Sheehan-Miles is one of very few authors, whose new books you take with 100% certainty, that it will be unforgettable and quality reading. Girl of Rage was all that and more. Loved every episode, every plotline, every emotion and development of events. A rare case, when the spin-off is even more powerful, than already excellent main series. Doubtless highly recommended! Those, who haven't read the books of this author - you miss a lot, don't waste your time on primitive and all-the-same books about various tattooed singing, or dominant, or sports cliche jerks and silly, hysterical, annoying heroines, who swoon over them. Form your taste in books reading such books as this one!

This book went way too quickly. I need more!!
The story of the Thompson Sisters continues as we learn more and more about the secrets of the Thompson family. Excellently written with characters your heart aches for, this story continues to unfold and pull you even deeper into the twisted web of deception that has masked the truth for these sisters throughout their entire lives.
Important info and events have left me yearning for the conclusion of this story!!
Bring on Girl of Vengeance, Charles Sheehan-Miles!!!

I read this book in one day... Between my daughter's recital performances!! I love this series... Every single book! The story picks up where it left off and some of the puzzle pieces begin to come together. The Thompson sisters are spread all over the country, all in danger, yet you feel they are all fighting for each other. This book was suspenseful from page one. This family has been through hell and I hope they find peace in the last book. I need this book yesterday!!

It happened again. I was so engrossed in this book that the ending caught me by surprise. The books involving the Thompson sisters just get better. From the first book, a romance involving broken characters such as Song for Julia, to the very gritty view of the military and then leading into the ugly side of the world of espionage in Girl of Rage. What will happen next? I am so invested in these characters that I need the next book now. Please write quickly Charles Sheehan-Miles.

I read the Thompson sister trilogy a while back and waited for this second trilogy to be complete before I continued with the story because the last book "the last hour" left me pretty traumatized. This was a fast paced intricate tale of corruption and abuse. It explained the dysfunctional family dynamic we are introduced to in the first series. The truth of how the family came to be is intricate and complicated. I read all three books in three days. I couldn't put them down.
