Where law means nothing, life becomes about one thing: control. In the underground society of shady dealings and everyday crime, only the most powerful thrive.
Apollo isn’t one of them. He’s a doll, an escort available to the most important figures of the local crime world, and an omega lover to the boss of the organization. Apollo remembers how hard life used to be before Jasper, and he’s happy enough with how things are most of the time… Even if his relationship might not be as great as he deludes himself into believing.
Kobe’s place appears to be a bit more desirable in the hierarchy, despite him being an omega in an alpha-dominated industry. He’s the gang leader’s new driver and someone who’s asked to take care of things from time to time. But even he feels unfulfilled and unsteady in his position, constantly torn by the war of good and evil around him and inside himself. While he secretly wishes to leave the life of danger behind, he stays for the money it brings him and his family. After all, he’s gone too far to back out now.
When the two men meet and strike an unusual, delicate connection, they realize that they both could be exactly the push each has been looking for in finally living the life they want. But life is hardly ever easy, especially when one surrounds themselves with those who know only power over people, and they don’t take kindly to parting with it…

I don’t have enough words to describe what Toy No More made me feel. Honestly. It’s one of those books that gets inside you, shakes you up, and leaves you with the sensation of having lived something intense, dark, and completely addictive. I read it twice in a row. Twice. Because when I finished it, the only thing I could do was go straight back to page one.
Kobe and Apolo’s story is unlike anything I’ve read lately. They’re magnetic. You don’t just get hooked. You fall for them with every scar, every layer they reveal, every glimpse of vulnerability that slips through the raw, perfectly built world they live in. You hurt with them. You cry, you get angry, you feel everything. And still, you keep turning pages because stopping isn’t an option.
Kat Sinclair’s writing is brilliant. It pulls you right into the action, like watching a movie in your head. Every detail is so vivid you can almost hear the gunshots, smell the blood, feel the tension crawling under your skin. There were moments when I realized I’d been reading without even breathing.
It’s a dark romance with a guaranteed HEA, but getting there is a full emotional ride. And it’s absolutely worth it.
I connected with this book on a visceral level. The atmosphere, the gritty and dangerous world, the unforgettable main characters, the villain I hated with everything in me... Every part of this book hits hard. It’s a solid ten. A never-ending five-star read. No doubt, it made it straight into my top five of the year.
I said it after her last book, and I’ll say it again, Kat Sinclair is an author to watch.
This book still lives in my head weeks later and I just hope Apollo is doing amazing.
Toy No More was such a captivating read! Beautiful and dark and honest and tragic. Between organised crime, the brutal cards life can deal and what it means to be stuck in a position where you don't hold any power, the story of Apollo and Kobe is one of heartbreak, despair and beautifully raw love.
The author did such an amazing job with the characters in my opinion. The MMCs in particular are so multidimensional and tangible, but the same certainly applied to Jasper. The way we are introduced to the underground world was ingenious: Seeing it through Kobe's eyes that emphasise the contrast and severity, the first perception of the almost ethereal Apollo to introduce him as a character. I was hooked from the very first chapter.
While this book would have worked as a regular work of fiction, the added layer of the Omegaverse / Venusverse was intriguing and ultimately intensified and visualised the power dynamics.
Despite being set in the Venusverse, the book had a brutal sort of realism to it. The emotional journey and character development were intense to witness. There were many points when I didn't see how this could be resolved in a way that wouldn't shatter my heart.
And yet, Kat Sinclair never chose 'the easy way out', nor did they sugarcoat anything. Which also allowed the story to find the precarious balance between romance and smut on the one side and graphic, traumatising (for the characters) scenes of oppression on the other.
If there is one thing that might slightly subtract from the full 5 stars it's that the author sometimes used sentences that are grammatically correct but slightly confusing. Despite that, the writing was great and I very much enjoyed the style.
Overall, Toy No More broke my heart and mended it again and I enjoyed every second of it. I think it is also a great intro book to the Omegaverse / Venusverse as it focuses so heavily on the dynamics and differences. And beyond that, it is a beautiful story of love, empowerment and freedom.
Initially I was excited to read this. Omegaverse (called Venusverse here) is already a subversion of traditional tropes, and the synopsis for this one was poised to subvert omegaverse tropes. I do love me some subversion-ception. Unfortunately I found myself a little let down. The book has some interesting ideas and a solid skeleton, but for me, it didn't quite manage to deliver in a satisfying way.
I never really found myself emotionally invested in either of the main characters. Their personalities felt like they changed to fit what the plot needed from them in the moment, which made it hard to get a clear sense of who they really were. The way Kobe's family backstory was presented slowly made it harder for me to connect with him. It was teased out in a way that keeps adding a little more to the struggles of Kobe's daily life... details that would have made me feel more empathy for him up front, rather than having to look back and recontextualize. A character having a disability isn't a plot twist. The caregiver aspect of Kobe's life mostly felt like it was there to make drama, and I wish it had been treated with a little more care and nuance, or left out entirely, if the time couldn't be devoted to it.
As for the romance, I didn't feel much chemistry between them. Their initial attraction felt kind of hollow, and the alternating POV format was fine but didn't really add anything compelling or give them contrasting perspectives to enrich the story. The Venusverse setting and the idea of two omegas being romantically involved is really interesting in concept, but the story didn't push it far enough to be compelling. The tropes felt pretty familiar, and the central conflict never had much bite to it.
The pacing was okay. I did find myself wanting more from the mafia aspect which kind of felt like it faded into the background more often than it should. As for the writing itself, the prose and dialogue were fine. Nothing stood out as either particularly good or particularly bad, other than some editing issues. It got the story across but not much more.
It's a quick, easy read, and if you're already into this universe or just want something with a light mafia flavor, it might hit the spot. I do respect the effort that went into the initial worldbuilding, especially in regards to the biology of the characters. That said, the first third of the book didn't really hook me, and as a result, the rest felt like a bit of a slog. Some readers might find it picks up later, but for me, if it hasn't grabbed me by that point, it probably won't.
All in all, it's... alright! It didn't quite work for me, but if the premise intrigues you, it could still be worth checking out. Not every book has to be a favorite to be a decent read.

I knew I was in for a treat and that this author was serious about the omegaverse (or Venusverse), from the incredibly detailed intro. And I mean detailed, haha.
While yes, this was a treat to read and I genuinely enjoyed this book…it was way more brutal than I thought it was going to be.
I went in thinking this would be a dark romance, but it leaned more toward a dark story with a really solid romance between the two MCs. I mean, yes, it is a dark romance… just not in the way I was expecting. If that makes sense….
This felt wayyy less tropey or gimmicky than a lot of other dark romances I’ve read, and I appreciated that. This was my first time reading anything by this author, and I would 100% read more of their books. I thought the writing was great and that they handled the darker topics skillfully.
The author includes a list of content warnings at the beginning, and I think they were adequate—definitely one you’ll want to check before reading.
what didn’t work:
Jasper, the mega alphahole, he was too easy of a character. He was one-dimensional, existing purely as a villain to drive the plot with no real motivation beyond “I’m an alpha, I want more.” It just didn’t feel nuanced and made me want to gently yell at Apollo. lol
There was also one other thing that didn’t quite work for me, but I can’t explain it without diving into major spoilers. While I personally didn’t like it, I’ll admit it did make the story feel more grounded and realistic.
In conclusion:
4 hearts! If you enjoy this genre, this could easily be a 5-star read for you. I was genuinely impressed by the writing and story—seriously, when do we ever get omega x omega?! I’d absolutely love to read more from this author.
[ I was provided an eARC copy in exchange for an honest review~]
This is my first time reading a true omegaverse piece outside of fanfiction or manga, and I really do love how it was handled here. The dynamics in this book were familiar, but had their own personal twist that made it feel very tailored to this setting. I loved that the dynamics of Venus-verse played a big part in character interactions, but wasn't the central focus of the plot.
Both Kobe and Apollo as characters had an incredible depth and complexity to them that kept me interested and invested in each of their stories. I did feel like Kobe's motivations and drives were revealed mush earlier than Apollo's and it felt like I was waiting to know more about Apollo. When Apollo's past is talked about more in depth, it felt very much like the last pieces of a puzzle were being put in place and I got to see the full picture of his character. Their dynamic together was so intriguing and I really did love how their relationship developed and evolved throughout the events of the book. It very much felt like the timing between things was realistic and things weren't just happening back to back to back. The tension regarding the development of the conflict also had me on edge. I knew that something/someone was going to be a problem, I just didn't know how until it was happening. The conflict and its escalation was handled beautifully and kept me reading because of its stakes.
Overall, this was a fantastic read and a lovely dip into the omegaverse aspect in fiction.
THIS! This is what a dark romance omegaverse/venusverse story is supposed to be like! Highly enjoyed Kobe and Apollo’s story. There were parts that seriously made me tear up through out their story.
Also, this was my first book by the author and I was pleasantly surpised and loved the writing style. So I will make sure to read her other Venusverse books.
Apollo is a s*x worker in The Dollhouse, owned by his boyfriend Jasper, a mafia heir. They live together and he thinks it’s everything he needs in life and more. When Kobe, another omega and new employee and driver for Jasper appears in his life, he starts to doubt everything he thought he wanted and needed.
So yeah, Jasper is a big alpahole, and sometimes I got frustrated why Apollo didn’t see right through him, but love makes blind, or so they say. My heart bled for Apollo, he has been through so much. But at the end there will be a HEA!
Make sure to check your trigger warnings, ‘cause this story has some. Your mental health matters 🩷 And thank you BookSirens for providing me with an ARC copy!

Kobe is a driver to a mafia boss, as an Omega, he has to prove himself that he can fit in to an organisation that is Alpha heavy, whilst also being the guardian to his younger brother. From the moment he starts working, he has an instant connection with Omega Apollo, the lover of Kobe's boss and popular escort of the Doll House. Going from One Last Chance, I was surprised that this was a lot darker story and I cannot remember reading a story that involves two omegas. With Kobe and Apollo both working for the Mafia, there was action and violence, emphasising how dangerous their jobs were and how dangerous them being together would be. The first part of the story was at a slower pace, as we were introduced to Kobe and Apollo and the further I got into the story the more I learnt about Kobe's family and what had happened to get Apollo in Jasper's clutches. However as the action intensified the pacing picked up. Even though Kobe and Apollo lived in a violent world, their relationship was engaging and I was willing them to survive. A good read
I love omegaverse—give me knotting, dynamics, and social hierarchies and I’m in. But Toy No More takes all of that and throws it into a blender with the mafia, a pinch of forbidden romance, and a whole lot of grit. The result? Absolute magic.
This isn’t your average omegaverse. It’s dark, violent, and soaked in tension. We’ve got Kobe, an omega in a 99% alpha mafia world, doing his best to survive—and, of course, drive the boss around without getting himself killed. Then there’s Apollo, the boss’s omega and star of the boss's brothel. These two absolutely should not be drawn to each other... and yet? Sparks. Chaos. Very bad decisions (and I loved every one of them).
Kat Sinclair doesn't hold back. There’s spice, there’s violence, there are enough trigger warnings to make your jaw drop—and yet it’s all written so compellingly, I found myself turning pages at 2 a.m. like sleep was a myth. If you like your romance dark and your mafia stories extra bloody with a side of forbidden love, you’re in for a ride.

A very dark and disturbing story of life in the criminal underworld where sex is a commodity and life can literally be held in the balance. Apollo is a sex worker and the omega to the alpha boss. He thinks he has it made because it's better than what he had before, until he meets Kobe. Kobe has gotten involved with the mob because of the money it offers him as a driver to support his family, not because he really wants the violence that others seem to crave. The bond that forms between Apollo and Kobe is stronger than either expected and spurs a desire for a different life if only they can find an escape. Some scenes in the story are quite literally disturbing so be warned that they could act as triggers. Despite the disturbing aspects it is still very much a love story between two unlikely characters.

Holy Sh*t, what a rollercoaster of a book! I love Omegaverse with deep depths, and Toy No More was exactly that. I'd advise checking the TW/CWs of this book because there are some dark themes, both environmentally and personally, for the characters. Apollo was so multifaceted that he really felt like a realistic character, and Jasper made my stomach drop multiple times while I was reading with his pattern of behaviour. Kobe was also an interesting character, and his character arc felt right for him. The relationship between Apollo and Kobe was also engagingly complex, there wasn't a time when they were together that my eyes weren't glued to the page.
Toy No More was haunting, one of those books that you wish you could reread just to feel the same feelings you felt the first time. Just Wow. Definitely worth investing the time into a slow read if deep, complex characters with darker themes are something you enjoy.
“There’s something intriguing about you. I’m not sure what it is, really. It just is. Clearly, you’re not some deadbeat or a psychopath, and you’ve been strangely good to me, so… It seemed to me you were intrigued too, or have I… read things wrong?” His voice falters at the end, and for the first time, Apollo appears genuinely insecure.
I really enjoyed this book. Good world building and characters. It was easy to get sucked into the storyline with the setting, suspense, and danger. I loved both Kobe and Apollo. I enjoyed how they got to know each other and their relationship developed. There were so many layers to their characters- which is also necessary in this world. I really liked the dynamic between them. I was also very interested in reading a romance story between two omegas- which I rarely come across. 4 stars.
I absolutely love when an author gets a bit more creative with world building beyond scenting, nesting and knotting. The in-universe sexism isn’t over the too villainy either, it feels very realistic and grounded. And the glossary at the beginning? Chef’s kiss.
The characters are great developed and the writing style flowed very well.
The themes are definitely dark and mature, so keep that in mind before reading.
Probably a top read from this year for me. I can’t want to check out more from Kat Sinclair.

This story combines a lot of elements that make the story somewhat dark while also crafting a strong relationship within the dark elements for the main characters. An omega in an alpha dominated world who is with the alpha boss and is settling as he thinks he has it better than he had it. Until Apollo meets Kobe, who drives the boss around. Even in the midst of surviving you can see a life line and want better. That is what this pair wants with one another. If only they can escape. This was gritty and good.

Toy No More gives me Mafia Romance meets Omegaverse and I really enjoyed it. The story follows two Omegas bound to the same organization but in two completely different capacities. Apollo who is tied to the cruel mafia leader Jasper as his love interest, if only that were the case and Kobe, his driver who is a good hearted Omega as well, who happens to be drawn into this scrupulous world of danger, death and drama.
Throughout the novel we see Apollo and Kobe grow closer while the world around them implodes into betrayal, treachery and everything a great mafia story includes. I loved the story and the ending was everything I was hoping for.
While I enjoyed this book, please be aware, this book is not for the weak minded. My advice is to pay attention to the trigger warnings placed in the beginning of this book. We do however get a HEA romance. Apollo is an ex-addict who now works in a seedy club for his Mafia heir boyfriend Jasper. Kobe is Jasper's driver & sees everything Jasper is & does. Jasper is not a nice man, he is the worst of the worst in the crime world.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Apollo and Kobe are the focus of the relationship part of this book, but it’s more of a mafia story. The two are both more on the periphery of the bad stuff but have to walk the line between good and evil with the mob boss in between them. I only wish that more had been written about the omega/beta/ alpha world because it sometimes seemed like an afterthought. I haven’t read the first book in this series and maybe there is more in there.

This book was intense, especially the relationships between omegas and alphas. I thought Kobe was really strong omega, mentally strong, to take on an alpha, who treats his friend Apollo badly. Jasper really was a mean, conniving, manipulative alpha. The fact that Apollo had lasted so long was truly a necessity. manipulated until he meets Kobe. Their choice is not easy as they have to fight for their happiness, but in the end there is also happiness for the mafia employee and the dollhouse employee. And I also thought Sadie was a beautiful character.
This was a first read for this author, and let me tell you i will be searching for her other books. This book pulled me in from the first chapter. I wanted to know who Apollo and Kobe were and what made them tick. The connection these two have is just chefs kiss. We all need that one person and they find that with each other. Not going to lie, I’m so happy the baddies got what they were owed! I will definitely be rereading this one!
I couldn't get enough in Sinclair's writing style. The world building was realistic and vibrant while the characters felt beautifully 3 dimensional. The story and spice was well balanced.
