Bathed in the beauty of Germany on a storybook assignment, Major Jackie Austin is revered across Spangdahlem Air Base as an officer and leader. The Air Force is looking to promote her ahead of the pack. From the outside, she's got it all, to include a fighter pilot husband, the handsome and popular Stan "Mace" Mason. In truth, things are fraying behind the scenes, as the compromises of a two-career military marriage take their toll. All of it factors into the greatest tragedy Jackie will ever experience, yet she'll have no time to heal. The Air Force Office of Special Investigations' lead investigator Chris Marquette has her locked in his sights. Only Jackie Austin can save herself, even if it means walking straight into a den of terrorists.

You guys already know- I met Dawn Brotherton at the market awhile back. I read the cozy mystery series first (which is an ongoing series). I really enjoyed that. This series is based on Dawn’s time in the Air Force.
This second book:
Jackie Austin and her husband are now in Germany. She and her husband are struggling to decipher between work and home and their marriage is suffering. She is apart of the training team-putting together scenarios for the military to practice as if they were true. He is a pilot. They are both working towards promotions-one more than the other. A plane crashes and there are fatalities. It seems so close to a training scenario that Jackie has put together. When she becomes suspect, she goes to all lengths to uncover who is to blame for this.
I quite literally could not put this book down. The relationships of the Air Force background is true as Dawn was a proud member of the Air Force-one of the first female launch officers on a coed crew for Minuteman II. Not too military that a non military person got lost. I really really enjoyed this book. I could see how someone would say it became slightly slow but really not because the chapters are short and we were onto the next “adventure” quickly. I cannot wait to pick up the next one. This one was a slower burn than the first one BUT not enough that I couldn’t get into it. The build up was just a little bit longer. So many emotions. So many thoughts and I didn’t suspect until closer to the end who was responsible. This was a fun quick read and I really enjoyed it. Onto book three….
What will I do when I’ve read all of Dawn’s stuff?!?!
