Sari Robins was born and raised in New York, married a Southern gentleman, and lives with her family in Georgia. She is a tax attorney with a Masters at Laws in Taxation. Before changing careers, Sari worked for Delta Air Lines and a premiere tax advocacy trade association.
In 2000 Sari realized that deep inside her beat the heart of an author. Now, while using her legal skills to navigate the business of publishing, she also gets to be more creative than she ever could have been with a legal brief. She loves writing fiction, particularly narratives set in the era Jane Austen made famous, England's Regency period (1811-1820).
It was okay. There is a lot of twists in that story that the reader finds about, but most of it is predictable.
To make it short, Lilian was the mistress of Dillon, a marquis. Dillon was her best friend and her protector. She needed him because of her step-father Kane who is the ultimate vilain in this story. His villainy started with Lilian's mother and still exists with Lilian.
One night she meets Nick Redford while he was working as a Bow Street Runner, he makes a lasting impression and she keeps fantasizing about him for months. When Dillion is arrested one day, she goes to seek Nick's help since he is a investigator.
There is a lot of tension in the beginning because Nick doesn't want to take her case since he doesn't like her reputation of a kept woman. He is also attracted to her but of course he fights it. She will do something SHOCKING to force his hand and they will start working together and get really close of course.
The story has 2 mysteries in it, first the Dillon case and another one Nick had to take later in the story. That 2nd case pissed me off because we spent like 4 or 5 chapters on it. Right when I thought Nick and Lilian would make some progress on the romance side -_- There is also another unraveling mystery right at the end, linked to Lilian's birth father...
The book was ok, I wish there was more to the romance than the mystery.
I like Sari’s books and this one is no different. A charming story of finding love and one’s place in life. Nick is an orphan with a talent for catching criminals. Lillian is a kept woman who has a brute of a stepfather. Together, they embark on a quest that is wonderful and, of course, happy ever after.
This was a good story and what a drool worthy cover.
The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.

My issue with this story was in the first love scene. Lillian isn't sure she wants to go through with the plan to seduce Nick. That's fine, typical set up. But,as things progress Lillian changes her mind and says 'NO' and then Nick keeps going. That's rape. That's when I quit reading. I read a fair number of historical romance. The heroine can be hesitant, but wants to be there. I am fine with that. I just felt that when the heroine says 'no' then the action should stop.
This book was really good. and it had a great balance in the book but i wished it focused a little more on the love story and their backgrounds. i did want her to be a virgin which she was and i was very happy about that. i will read the next book in the series.

This is my first book by author Sari Robins, and I was not disappointed with the novel One Wicked Night. I loved the story and the characters in this romance. Some of the book is so good that I was laughing out loud especially when Lillian and her friend Fanny drugged Nick and striped him. The passion between Lillian and Nick is red hot and will not disappoint. Can not wait to read Ms. Robins other book in the Andersen Hall Series, More Than a Scandal which is the love story between Major Marcus Dunn, a war hero and Catherine Miller. I highly recommend One Wicked Night as a wonderful romance read.
I do love Sari Robins novels. They are all very well written. I remember reading them all, including this one, years ago when they were first published. I really don't know what's happened with this author - has she given up writing, is she still with us? I just don't know! Anyway, I do love this particular book. The characters are well thought out, I especially like Nick Redford, the Bow Street Runner/enquiry agent, and the plot isn't bad either. I think, even though this book is a few years old, it can still hold its head up with more recent novels!
"Never underestimate a sleeping draught, a see-through night rail and a plan"
This is a book that I have re-read many times over the years, and never loses it's appeal. It's well written, with a good plot, a nefarious villain, a swoon-worthy detective, and a cast of hilariously inappropriate characters.
