And good news! They are on a case now. Someone is causing trouble all over their small town of Huckleberry Springs. Each night, the troublemaker strikes – breaking into houses, spilling garbage, and stealing toys. Nobody knows who the culprit is, but everyone blames someone else. Ellie and Ace have to solve the mystery fast – before their neighbors go to war.
Ellie could smell the mystery in the air. She could also smell a lot of knocked-over garbage. She and Ace had a job to do, and they had better do it fast.
“Are you ready, Ace?”
Ace barked and tightened his collar. It was go time!
Girl detective Ellie and her dog pal Ace are on the case. Can they catch the bedtime bandit? Read to find out!
Ellie & Ace: The Case Of The Bedtime Bandit is a cute children’s book. It is the story of a girl and her dog, who are almost, but not quite, world-famous detectives. She just needs to solve a few more cases, and with the help of her dog, that will not be a problem.
There are strange happenings in Ellie’s neighborhood: things missing, garbage cans turned over and messes made in people’s kitchens. With the help of Ace, will Ellie be able to figure things out and restore peace to the neighborhood?
This book is written perfectly for a young child or young reader. The book is just the right length, long enough for the story to unfold but not so long that a child will get bored. I like the fact that the book has chapters, which helps get the child ready for longer books. The words that are written are age-appropriate and will be easily understood by a child. I like the fact that this is a mystery and a good way to get a child interested in becoming a mystery lover. I would definitely recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. And I honestly thought this was a great children’s book.
This is such a sweet story about a girl and her dog.
That’s right, a girl and her dog.
Ellie, a fun-loving child, wants to be just like her dad – a police detective, a real hero. She already has her partner – a dog named Ace. It doesn’t matter if it’s a missing shoe or tangled trash cans, Ellie and Ace will keep their neighborhood safe.
With these two super sleuths, there are no crimes too big or too small that they can’t solve.
Elementary aged children will adore this duo of modern day crime busters.
Disclosure - I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
This is such a fun book. Not only do you have an amateur sleuth on your hands, but also a brother with smelly sneakers, a police detective dad for some inspiration, and neighbors with silly names. As more things disappear, Ellie and Ace work to uncover the mystery and apprehend the culprit. And you won’t believe who the culprit is.
Toodles and Whistlehoot have created an engaging and imaginative humorous mystery for young readers that will keep them turning the pages and yearning for more Ellie & Ace.
Ellie & Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit by Tangerine Toodles and Wednesday Whistlehoot is a fun and informative read for 6-8 year olds, with cute little red, black & white pictures on each page. A wonderful story about Ellie, who wants to be a detective and starting early and her dog Ace who has a nose for clues... they will soon be on a new case where they follow the clues to catch the thief! Ellie's brother has lost his left sneaker and she finds after Ace has sniffed it out, it is in a hole under the fence.. Ace likes smelly things and does not want to give up the sneaker! Trashcans have been knocked over on the next night along with other strange things have also been happening, at night, Ellie is thinking up a plan to catch the thief. The following night Ellie has an idea so she decides to stay up later than she ever has before to find the culprit and just before she falls asleep Ace starts behaving very odd and barking etc and off go Ace and Ellie following the bedtime bandit chasing it a long way before capturing the culprit Ellie & Ace have saved the day! Unfortunately I cannot tell you who that is, you will have to read it and see who did it!! 4 Stars for a fun, fact filled detective story for young readers.
Ellie and Ace start their journey here. Looking for clues to figure out who is toppling the garbage cans, Ellie and Ace dream of being famous. Ellie is a smart little girl, who is easy to relate to. Ace is a fun dog, who helps Ellie sniff out the clues. This detective team share giggles and fun with their readers.
Tiffany Williams has a way to bring these characters to life. Ms. Williams narrates Ellie as a sweet but determined girl. I enjoyed Ms. Williams narration of Ace. it was fun to hear his thoughts. My son has never been so quiet as he was listening to this book.

The Good: Ellie and Ace are an adorable duo who are smart and curious. Ellie, the human counterpart is one part smart and one part Inspector Gadget (that is, sometimes she is a little oblivious) and Ace is one part trouble-maker and one part Penny (that is, he seems to know what is going on, but no one really listens because he's a dog). The stories are sweet and exciting as this smart duo soles the problems of the neighborhood!
The Bad: The narrator talking to the audience would be a writing style I'd save for an older audience as it reads more like a report and less like a story - which could make it hard to understand. I'd recommend this book to a stronger end of second grade reader, who might not like it because of the simple storyline.
Who will love this book? Readers of Amelia Bedilla and Fly Guy will like these simple mysteries and getting to know Ellie and Ace better. Kids who like smart pets will really like these stories as well.
How much did I like it? 6.5/10 (that whole style vs age gap presents a problem)
Ellie is a young girl who wants to be just like her father, a detective. She and her dog Ace enjoy solving mysteries and someday soon they will be famous detectives.
But first, they need to solve the mystery of who is stealing food and toys, and even a stinky shoe!
It was so easy to read about Ellie and Ace. It's a story for only a couple of minutes, with four chapters and some illustrations. At the start of the book there is a introduction for everyone who haven't read the other books, I think this was a great idea because you get the feeling you know the characters. I loved Ellie and Ace interactions, I love dogs and I think their friendship was well written.
Overall, I definitely recommend Ellie + Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit for the young readers. It's the perfect length, simple to read and it won't bore you. It's a children book but it caught me from the beginning and I wouldn't mind reading more about this girl and her dog adventures.
This was a cute mystery story with a girl and her pet dog as the detectives. Kids would enjoy this book because of that fact, but there was too big of a difference in the targeted age range and the way the story was told. I read it through twice because it seemed to have gaps in the telling the first time through. It seemed more cohesive on the second read through.I think 5-7 years old would be the age range of this book with 5 being read to because of the older narration and 6 or 7 reading alone. It is short so kids could feel a sense of accomplishment in finishing a chapter book. The younger kids (5) wouldn't be able to make some of the connections that the narrator states as understood. I read some of it to my 4 year old and she lost interest. I think it's because of the more grown up telling of the story. I could see my 7 yr. old reading it and liking it, but not enough to read another one in the series.
A great book for newer readers and for readers wanting to engage other readers into the love of books. This story has the makings of mystery, kids, a dog named Ace, detective story, laughter, and shenanigans that will surprise you even though it is made for the age group of 7 - 8 year old. I enjoyed the story and will read it to my grandchildren. I expect them to laugh and want to read it again!!! Who doesn't like the idea of a girl named Ellie wanting to emulate her father being a detective and wanting to be the world most famous detective. She just needs cases-- so she looks for them and finds them. 4 distinct stories of a case of the runaway running stinky shoe, the knocked over trash cans, the missing bear, raided kitchen, with a stolen tie. Ellie & Ace finds the culprits and now she is off for her next case.....
Ellie and her super sleuth dog, Ace are destined to become famous detectives -- if only they can find plenty of cases to solve. Fortunately, there are mysteries abounding in their town, including toppled garbage cans and items that go missing in the night. Will Ellie and Ace crack the case of the bedtime bandit and become famous detectives?
The illustrations are done in black and white with eye-catching splashes of red that kids will love -- and the main characters are adorable. Plus, with chapter titles like "Smelly Brother Funk . . . Eww," kids will be giggling their way all the way through the short, engaging chapters. An added element of fun is reading about the authors and the illustrator.
Thank you to eBooks For Review for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review -- the only kind I give.
I received this book for free to do a honest review. I actually read this story to my eleven year old daughter and she loved it. She also loved the pictures that was on each page. This story is about a little girl who wants to be a detective and what does most good detectives need? A good dog to smell out the clues. Ellie has a mystery to solve someone is making a mess at night all over the neighborhood. Who could it be? So off goes Ellie and Ace to try and find out. A good story for younger kids, especially if you love to read to your kids. We also enjoyed the parts about the Arthurs Tangerine Toodles and Wednesday Whistlehoot my eleven year old said I didn't know kids could write books. We also liked how it told about Kathrina Iris, it got her thinking was they sisters or maybe best friends who wrote this book, so it also got her imagination going.
I chose to review this book because I have an 8 year old who loves to read and to be read to. She enjoyed reading this book on her own. It was perfect for a 3rd grader. She enjoyed it most because like Ellie's dad, her dad is also a detective! Ellie and her beloved puppy, Ace, love to solve mysteries and are great at it too!
I thought, as a parent, this book was cute. The illustrations are simple and sweet. There was fun humor for kids and a little bit of mystery. This book is simple enough for a young reader to read on their own or for a parent to read to a pre-reader. My daughter enjoyed it, but I don't think she will read it again as she is a stronger reader and enjoys books with more depth.
**I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received a copy of this free for an honest review which I've given.
Ellie & Ace is a very cute book about a little girl named Ellie and her dog Ace. Ellie's dad is a police detective, so Ellie comes by her curiosity naturally. When crazy things start happening in the night, Ellie & Ace are on the job. They question the neighbors and look for clues. Ace sniffs clues out, and Ellie thinks she knows how to catch who is knocking over trash cans, taking teddy bears, and making messes! She sets a trap with cat food and stays up late one night. Does she catch the bandit? Or will it remain a mystery!
This is a great book for children who like mystery books. I enjoyed it and thought the drawings were very cute. Ellie and Ace make a great team!
My little boy is an advanced reader. He read all the Nate the Great and Olivia Sharp books in kindergarten. This year, in first grade, I have struggled to find books that he enjoys and that engage him. We have tried so many and I was quite worried and discouraged. Then I downloaded this book to my kindle. He read it twice within a week before I could get my hands on it. I think that is the highest compliment for a book. My older daughter also read the book and enjoyed it. I liked the sweet characters and story line. I loved the simple illustrations. My son is asking for more and I hope they deliver soon. I am back to trying to find another enjoyable book for him, but I think he reading this story through for a third time, so I can wait a bit.
In the book Ellie & Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit I had to admit that I read it with more of a critical eye than I expected. Of course it is a children’s book but I have worked in schools and have been trained in many reading programs so I find myself wondering which grade would do better with whatever I am reading. This being said, Ellie & Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit is a very nice book for a parent to read to a child or for a child about 1st or 2nd grade who is above-level in reading. I do believe some of the words were quite difficult while the content was very simple. I think a short chapter book about a little girl with a smelly brother, a fun dog with fun illustrations is great! 3 ½ Stars. Cute pictures! 1st or 2nd grade independent reader chapter book.
I can see this being a fun story for early readers. I have always adored books with child and animal detectives growing up so this is definitely for children who love pets and mysteries.
The story follows Ellie and her pet dog Ace as they try to uncover the mystery of who is behind the tipping of trash cans and other messes around the neighborhood. Ellie and Ace decide to set a trap to flush out the culprit. They are mighty surprised when they catch the thief red-handed!
With short chapters and easy to read text, children between the ages 6-8 who enjoy mysteries and animal antics may find this a fun read.
cute childrens book about Ellie(a child) and Ace (her pet dog) that are aspiring detectives that solve a case in their town where there are bandits messing up everybodies yards, and house. who the bandits are is quite a suprize to say the least.
very well written . would be easy for a child to read and understand. adorable illistrations that go along with it.
5 stars
other books in the ellie and ace series:
The case of the Pinched Peaches The case of the Mixed-up Mutt The case of the Quick Quack Sneak Attack
I have a feeling if this series was around when I was a child it could have been a personal fave. It just reminds me of my childhood & maybe that's why I feel it's an instant classic. I fell in love with the minimalist yet classic illustrations in shades of white, black, & red. The writing is descriptive without being overwhelming which is why I believe this would be a wonderful transition level book for children. Oh, & I adored the meet the authors & illustrator sections!!
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
This is a cute detective story for kids. It is a girl and her dog out to solve a mystery! It is very short, with short chapters and brief pages. It was funny and sweet.
Ellie and her dog Ace are trying to figure out who is stealing toys and knocking over garbage cans. So they follow clues around the neighborhood.
The language is simple and lighthearted, great for early readers. It is a story that a five year old will love!
I loved the about the authors and illustrator section at the end, they definitely sound whimsical and fun.
Ellie and Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit is a fun early reader about a young girl, Ellie and her dog, Ace.
What does a tenacious girl, the daughter of a police detective and her dog do for fun? Sniff out and solve crimes and mysteries! No crime is too small for this duo – missing shoe – never fear; has your trash can been dumped over and gone through during the night – this duo will get to the bottom of it.
With a fun storyline and great illustrations, young readers will enjoy this series.
I loved this little book so much. It's written in a way that is great as a read-aloud with children yet too young to read on their own, yet also perfect for those beginning readers. Most of the words were small and common enough for those that are just starting out to read with little assistance. The story is cute, engaging, and humorous. I most enjoyed that all of the humor was age appropriate. Often in things intended for children there tend to be veiled references to more adult themes. Not here. It was really adorable.
Ellie + Ace: The Case of the Bedtime Bandit is a cute story for young emerging readers. It is perfect for a chapter book read loud or as a beginning chapter book for a newly independent reader. The story follows Ellie (a young girl) and her dog, Ace, as they solve mysteries. Ellie's dad is a detective and Ellie wants to be a detective like him. The characters in the story were cute and would appeal to young children. What child doesn't want to be a great detective and solve mysteries? I really enjoyed reading this story to my daughter and she really liked it.
Ellie is a little girl who is well on her way to becoming the world's greatest detective. Her dog Ace is her trusty partner, using his curiosity to help Ellie uncover clues. In this book they have to discover who is stealing things and knocking over trashcans in the middle of the night.
I thought this was a really cute book. It is perfect for kids who are starting to read short chapter books on their own. The story is fun and I love the illustrations. I enjoyed this enough to want to get the rest of the series.
I received a copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.
This is a really cute children's Book. It is a story about a girl & her dog who are going to be world famous detectives. Ellie & Ace set out trying to find who the bedtime bandit is who is upsetting their neighborhood. He is causing all sorts of trouble! This was just the right length for my kids to listen in & enjoy the mystery but not so long that they lost interest. And with a gap of 4 years between them all, that says a lot! Huge difference in attention spans. Really cute story. I will be getting the others to read to them too!
Ellie and Ace are adorable! I imagine any 5-8 year old would adore them. The story is fun and cute. I, however, found myself concerned. Ellie roamed around her small community unchaperoned - including sneaking out at night. The idea of impressionable readers snatching onto this being okay for them to emulate terrifies me. I do wish her clue searches had been limited to her own home and backyard. That would have allowed me to bump my rating to 5 stars and recommend to all.
I liked this story. It was sweet and involved solving mysteries. Ellie is a young girl who wants to be a world famous detective. Her dog Ace loves to sniff smelly things and often helps her find clues. Her father is a policeman. He has been getting a lot of calls about trashcans knocked over and other messes and there is a lot of friction in town. Ellie is able to solve the problem with logic, intelligence, but most of all her dog, Ace. He catches the culprit.
Ellie and Ace was a cute children's story about a girl detective and her dog. It is an easy chapter book for kids who are not quite ready for a long read. I teach school and feel that my students would enjoy this fun mystery! I haven't been able to find many short mystery stories to introduce them to this genre and will be looking for more Ellie and Ace books to enjoy together.
This was a wonderful children's book about a young girl and her mischievous puppy. The two solve a fun neighborhood mystery as they aspire to be the worlds greatest detectives.
The story line was fun and my 7year old son was able to read the entire book at one sitting. We are certainly looking forward to reading more adventures about Ellie and Ace.
This was a cute little story. Ellie wants to solve mysteries and be as good a detective as her dad. Her dog, Ace, helps her out on her cases. I think young readers would enjoy this story and appreciate the bits of humor too. The illustrations were darling as well.
This was a fun read. Great kids mystery for ages 5-8. Children can read this on there own or have their parents read to them. It reminded me of stories I read when I was a kid a long time ago. I received an ebook copy from ebooksforreview.com for a fair and honest opinion.
