A Good Time

Rate this book
When straight-laced Angela impetuously scrawls her phone number on the wall of a truck stop bathroom, she thinks she might get one night of wild abandon. But while she was sewing her wild oats, someone flattens her tires. Handsome tow truck driver Damon steps in to help her get home in time for curfew, but his help comes at a price, Angela's infatuation with her savior and her desire to help him spend the night repossessing cars.

And to make matters worse, someone keeps calling her, threatening to tell her parents--and her whole religious congregation-- about what she's done. To top it off, Damon's crazy ex-girlfriends are still fawning for his attention, a few religious wackos are threatening to ostracize her from the only life she's ever known, and some boy band wannabes need help battling skinheads. All she ever wanted was a good time. Angela's tame life was as flat as her tires, but now she feels she's headed for a complete blow-out.

Will Angela ever be able to find out who's stalking her and keep them from revealing her terrible secret? And what about Damon? How will she ever be able to go back to being a good girl with his rockstar kisses only a phone call away?

A fast paced coming of age story involving Angela, the soon to be 19 daughter of borderline religious fanatics, a gloryhole in a seedy truck stop-cum-adult bookstore, and a long-haired metal head repo man. It's not Candy, but a fun read nevertheless. I highly recommend it to all my horror loving friends as a change of pace read.

This was a great story about Angela, an 18-year old raised in a strict Jehovah Witness family and church community. She is devastated to feel that she has no future except in the church which she doesn't want to belong to anymore. She craves the independence, the experiences of being a normal teenager; including a bit of alcohol and sex. A rash decision on her part; leads to her meeting Damon a heavy metal loving character with a tow truck and a Camero.
"...not with longing for wickedness but with a desperate need to escape this hell."
"Let them all know the mousy witness girl was blooming into a woman in her own right. A woman with her own brand of morals and spiritualism. She didn't plan to screw around. Didn't plan to share. And-by darn-didn't plan to let what she wanted, get away from her."
"Her heart nearly burst with affection and her breath grew shallow. She discovered her nails digging into his back. His rhythm increased. Each plunge further penetrated her soul. Everything felt so wonderful, so right. Heaven sent."
This story was well written, with characters that you couldn't help cheering for. We were all young once: and felt just like Angela did. Maybe not with all the religious influences, though.
