Charm Nixon, a sexy, independent woman, is having trouble finding a man that she'll keep longer than a one night stand. She thinks all men are flawed, but her best friend thinks Charm's standards are ridiculously high. When Eden challenges Charm to a dare which forces her date a man "beneath her station," Charm is in for the ride of her life. Beyond finding the sex explosive, will Charm find a man she actually wants to keep?
Recieved from the author for an honest review. This book wasn't bad. It just needs to be tweaked a bit. The sex scenes were repetetive. The dialogue was a bit high schoolish, considering it's between two successful adults. Xander and Charm were not as likeable as they could have been. And I honestly didn't feel a connection between the two of them besides the sex. It was an easy read and the issues of the characters were good and made sense. In my opinion, if it was meshed out more and the ending not so rushed it'd be a better book.
This book is unlike anything I have ever read. It is very raw and in your face. Dare is not for the fait at heart but take a chance and try something a little unconventional.,,,,, Charm is what I like to call “that girl.” She is one who has it going on but knows she has it going on. She has high standards and an even higher sex drive. Because she can be very vain she uses sex as a weapon. No man is ever good enough. Basically what Charm wants is just too much and very unrealistic. This book and character I am sure every woman has known someone like Charm at one point in their life. Loving friend but misguided when it comes to love and life. Let me repeat again this book is very gritty and high on the sex aspect but once you dig a little deeper in the story you will realize that sex just masks the deeper issues and Charm like many characters are flawed.
Now on to Zander. The chapter introducing Zander I won’t ruin it for readers but all I can say is wow!!!!! Zander like Charm have been hurt by love once in life and has never overcome or even faced the issues. He is a man that loves them well sex them and leave them. You see Zander has some shortcomings that fact that he is short but well-endowed is his weapon. At one point I wanted to yell at both characters and tell them to get over themselves. When these two meet it’s like a hurricane meeting a volcano. What do you do when you meet another version of yourself? Do you run or face the fact that love has found you?
This book was well edited and the characters were well developed. The author has talent but I wished there was more of the characters interaction then just sex. Some scenes were a bit repetitive. But all in all this was a well told story I hope that in the next story we get more on Eden and deeper in the story then just sex. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thanks author!!
I would rate this book 4 huge STAR!
First let me start with the character:
Charmaine Nixon, or Charm as her best friend Eden called her - always having one night stand because she is having trouble finding a man that fit her ridiculous package requirement. It's either he is good looking but too clingy, or their ego is too small.
Xander, on the other hand, has all the women ever dreamed of, but his lack of height really hit him hard - women referred him as 'midget' because of his 4'5" height. He had relationship issues due to his love experience gone sour in his younger year. He met with one of his father's mistress, Dani, who taught him everything on how to pleasure a women and how love can destroy his life. Since, all the women he has been together only wanted him for his junk, but ashamed to go out with him, he put up a photo collection of his conquered quests on his website.
So, one day, Eden dared Charm to give the first man who walked in a chance to have more than a one night fling. Xander taking Charm as another of his conqueror, soon having issues with himself when Charm asked him out in public, and worst he realized he already developed feeling for Charm when Charm told him that she love him.
Like: This book discussed real life issues that happened around us; self-esteem, hope, courage, relationship and love. And, [spoiler alert!]happy ending of course.
Dislike: Repetitive scenes which I'm easily bored with. I just skipped most of the part.
Xander has been burned by women since high school. His intimacy skills are top notch, yet none will give him the time of day outside of what he can do for them... In private, of course. None dares to show up on his arm in public, even acknowledge him in front of others. They dare show up with a man of such short stature, no matter what kind of person he is.
Xander does what any tech-savvy guy with a relationship chip on his shoulder and no conscience would do: film their escapades and create a shady exposé website. Much like the Mean Girls burn book, Xander exposes girls in the worst way, only he is significantly more graphic and even has shocking and embarrassing visual aids to accompany his comments.
Charm is a girl who has also been burned, but by her cheating ex boyfriend. She how's just looks for the latest and greatest hookup. Challenged by her friend to accept the next guy completely, flaws and all, she begins a relationship with Xander, not knowing anything about his sordid affairs.
The main deal in this book is: can Charm and Xander have a real relationship? Can Xander leave his hang ups behind and enjoy a woman who might just be able to love him?
The story is fast paced and super steamy. I was able to read it in two short sittings. Characters are somewhat shallow, though. It seems at first that the two MCs try for depth in their own way, but lack the skills to achieve it. If you're looking for extreme declarations of love and a typical HEA, move along. Not my cup of tea, but a good, quick read.
Xander is only 4'5 inches tall in a twist of irony or some form of compensation for his short legs he's been blessed with an extremely large 3rd leg. So much so that as a teenager his father's mistress took him under her tutelage and provided him with the skills needed to seduce women regardless of his dwarfism. Although Xander has no trouble bedding women he's still shunned by them when it comes to public outings. Xander deals with this rejection in a very destructive manner.
Charmaine has no problem meeting men but her high standards usually leads to her disqualifying them before the relationship even starts. On a dare made by her best friend Eden Charmaine agrees to give the next man who walks into the bar a real chance at capturing her heart. That man turns out to be no other than Xander. Will Charmaine be able to look past Xander's shortcomings and will Xander be able to let go of his animosity towards the opposite sex?
Author Lyla Marie Ross has an original premise with her novel Dare, Xander's bitterness is very plausible. The only drawback from the book was its excessive sex scenes. Xander's exploits were detailed on almost every other page and became a little repetitive. If not for that the book could have been recommended for readers outside of the erotica genre.
Final Rating 3 Stars Delonya Conyers ARC Book Club Inc.
This is really a good and unconventional novel that I read it in one sitting. The author laid out each character's story in the beginning, and Xander is really special.
When the description said "beneath her station", I didn't expect it to be literal. I didn't like what Xander did to those who used him and liked him cause he's great in bed, but I understood his feelings. A little later in the story, he eventually realizes it doesn't really do him any good. He built his company from scratch and now runs a successful business.
Charm is a confident woman who loves sex and knows how to get it. She's beautiful and smart and sets the bar too high. The dare made by her best friend Eden changed her life. There are a lot of sex scenes which were really steamy, there are two FF scenes others might not enjoy.
I liked how she saw and appreciated Xander as the person, and not just because he's well endowed and gave her multiple orgasms. She was inspired by him and wanted to be a better person.
This is a fast-paced story with morals. There were conflicts which were resolved and I'm looking forward to this author's other works.
The description and cover of this book immediately caught my attention. The characters, while sometimes annoying, were well written. For me, the story did stall about and I didn't think I would be able to finish it. When it picked up it was amazing. For a good part of the book, it was all sex. Now don't get me wrong, I love a sexy good time in a book as much as the next reader, but it seemed like there was nothing else going on. However, I continued to read and I am so glad I did. You find out why there was so much sex and it makes sense. If you're going to read this book, and I suggest you do, you may feel like I did and think about not finishing. FINISH IT, you won't regret.
Although this a very graphic novel it has positive aspects and a lot of heat. Zander has issues that sadly were taught to him as a teen by his fathers mistress. Charm looked or fun without complications of failed relationships. Their meeting was a challenge by her best friend. This novel not only provides us with lots of smut but challenges the acceptance of society and are inner exceptance of who we are deep down and how deep we are willing to go to accept the truth. Both these characters have down falls yet it's satisfying to realise when all was done and said the positive side of human won out. This was not entirely what i expected yet pleasantly saisfying.
I thought that I would really enjoy this after reading the blurb. But I just couldn’t get through this book at all. The writing style just wasn’t my thing, I would have liked the writing to be smoother and had more flow. I couldn’t feel the connection between the two characters and I didn’t feel the dialogue fit the two characters. It was a little too childish for two adults who should have had a better grasp of the language. The sex between the two were a little repetitive but my main issue was just the writing style. I expected a little bit more class and sophistication to the story.
Eh.. I really dislike negative reviews so I'll make it short and sweet.
This synopsis pulled me in and I thought I would love this. However, the author's writing style and the character's dialog are just not my thing. I like a little bit more smoothness and flow in the writing style. For the characters, I like a little bit more sophistication and grace, a little class... When the male lead calls it a taco... Eh... No thanks.
I'm sure others will enjoy this one but it just wasn't for me.
Recieved from the author for an honest review. Ok so the dare made by her best friend Eden changed her life. There are a lot of sex scenes which were really hot and steamy. ..This is an easy quick read and I really enjoyed it. Thank you for letting me read & review.
