It's alive! It's alive! (Thanks to biochemistry, that is.)

Biochemistry is the science of the chemical processes that allow for...well...life. If it moves, breathes, eats, or sleeps, biochemistry can probably explain how. So, it stands to reason that the fundamentals of biochemistry can get a little complicated.

In Biochemistry For Dummies, you'll explore the carbons, proteins, and cellular systems that make up the biochemical processes that create and sustain life of all kinds. Perfect for students majoring in biology, chemistry, pre-med, health-services, and other science-related fields, this book tracks a typical college-level biochemistry class. It simplifies and clarifies the subject with easy-to-follow diagrams and real-world examples. You'll also get:

Explorations of cell biology, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and other fundamental building blocks of life Discussions of the basic structures common to all living organisms Treatments of the microscopic details of life that make us all tick If you're looking for a hand with some of the trickier parts of biochemistry--or you just need an accessible overview of the subject--check out Biochemistry For Dummies today!

This book really helped me, I recommend it for everyone who are going through biochemistry in college, not as a textbook but for helping you understand what you are studying.
My professor recommend Voet for studying the parts of aminoacids, proteins, nucleic acid, carbohydrates and enzymes. For the part of metabolism he recommended lehninger. I read both lehninger and voet and concluded that I would have to memorize all those names and I didn't understand anything the first time I read, all my friends were dropping the course or preparing to cheat.
I read this book as I was studying for these topics and the book helped me understand better and I saw videos on the subject as well.

A necessary study aid that I am glad to say will no longer be needed.

Started a new job that requires a better understanding of biochemistry. This book is a brilliant place to start. Explaining many concepts well.

Easy to pick up and read at any time. Book arrived in perfect condition. Quick delivery, great value for money. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking to understand the basics of biochemistry.

This is a well written book, covering the basics of biochemistry. It is written in a format that allows you to simply open up to a chapter that you are interested in without having read others, if that is what you suits you best.

Not a good book for medical purposes, because:
Uncolored, there's no clinical oriented spotting, superficial
and gives lots of attention to chemical structures.

What I like is the simplicity, jokes, and some of the tips included.

Biochemistry is super interesting but 300ish pages doesn't do it justice. This book is perfect for supplementing a textbook

For people who haven't formally studied chemistry, I'd recommend looking into some general and organic chem first...

So... maybe this is a useful review for those who already know biochemistry? It's also supposed to be an approachable intro for those without a biochemistry background, and it fails at that.

Good review

This is a good review of biochemistry. The only drawback is that many of the figures are clipped because of the formatting.

Not at the level that I expected. More "Real World" sections that point out information that have direct applications in the everyday world would have been useful. However, I can understand that there are concepts and topics that can't be explained that way. In retrospect, I wish I had invested more time in the book.

Love the "for dummies" version of a complicated topic, especially when it's witty and relevant. And the authors don't take themselves too seriously! Sometimes it's much harder to make things simpler than to make them complicated, that's why this book is so great. :)

The only reason I passed biochem without killing someone. Not quite at the level I needed, but it made sense of the basics so I could sorta get all the complicated stuff.
