Secrets Trilogy #2

Captured Immune

Rate this book
He’s determined to save her, but he’s the one who needs saving.

Trey

She knew the word goodbye would crush me. She knew, and she used it anyway.

Goodbye is the word my mother taught me to use only when I’d never see someone again. Hearing it from Arella destroys my heart, but that pain is nothing compared to the agony of finding her held captive—and it’s my fault. I never should have let her go.

Now I’ll do whatever it takes to rescue her, but first, I need to figure out how to do that—without getting killed.

Arella

After waking up in a strange place, surrounded by people I don’t recognize, the last person I expect to see here is Trey—especially while I’m in handcuffs and he’s not.

I always suspected he was hiding something; I just never imagined he was part of a covert organization that kidnaps people. Oh, and did I mention that he has powers? He can make fire come out of his hands. His hands!

I need to get away from him. He’s dangerous and has a past littered with secrets—a past we discover is intertwined with mine.

Captured Immune is the suspenseful second book in the Secrets Trilogy, bursting with unexpected twists, sensual spice, and a heart-pounding cliff-hanger that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Best enjoyed after Ordinary Secrets, this dual POV contemporary fantasy romance is perfect for readers 18+ seeking a thrilling blend of mystery, adventure, and a love as intense as the danger surrounding it.

Melissa Lam loves reading and writing romance books that take the reader on an emotional roller coaster full of mystery, suspense, and heartache.

As an extroverted introvert who doesn’t like to leave the house (because it requires wearing pants), Melissa enjoys playing strategic board games and taking long showers. When she does find the will to put pants on, she can be found traveling, enjoying bubble tea, or experiencing the world through food.

TL;DR I like to eat and write about heartbreaking stuff.

This book was a roller coaster of emotions, story telling and character development. Never quite knew what was coming for you and it was glorious. I loved the introduction of new characters and new plot lines in book two. I thought we had a lot going on and we were given even more to enjoy and puzzle over and new characters to adore. Definitely was kept on the edge of my seat as so much was revealed and yet more puzzles were uncovered that we don't even know the stories behind yet !!! I absolutely adore Arella and really hope we get to finally solve the puzzle of her in book 3 because its killing me !!! Trey is adorable and wants to protect and keep Arella safe which is just the best but forces beyond them definitely are conspiring against that. Definitely need book 3 stat.

Thank you to the author for gifting me this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I could not put this book down!! And the world building is AMAZING.

Captured Immune, book 2 in the Secrets Trilogy, is non stop action, and holy bombshells. You get one bombshell and you are just like no way, and then not too long after that, another bombshell, and again what!? I think there are at least 4 bombshells in this book if I remember correctly, so be prepared!

As the headline states, I love the world building in this story. Book 1 (which you definitely have to read before reading book 2) talks a little about the Zordi world, but only some hints here and there, in Captured Immune, you get to break the Zordi world wide open and learn so much about it, and all the different types of powers and politics that are going on in this crazy world of gifted humans.

Captured Immune starts right at the cliffhanger that book 1 ends on. And the action doesn't really stop from beginning to end. Arella is captured by ZIRDA, who are trying to figure out how her immunity works. Unfortunately, that means conducting painful experiments not only on her, but also on Trey, to get her to be able to project her immunity onto others. At first Arella has every intention of running away from Trey as fast as she possibly can when she finds herself captive, blaming him entirely. But after an intense battle, well more than one, she realizes that he is someone she wants to stick around if she wants to survive, and she kinda loves him too, so that doesn't hurt.

I loved this story! I loved it more than book 1, I think because we get to actually learn more about the Zordi world, which is extremely fascinating.

There's a part of the book where Arella and Trey are literally flying through the forest on a tire, and I just can't get that image out of my head of how amusing that would be to see!

I love the character growth that Arella is going through, from book 1, to here. I mean she goes from being this Ordinary human, with an amusing assumption that her boyfriend might be an alien, to finding out he actually has superhuman gifts (but not an alien, technically just human), yet she manages to not lose her mind amongst learning of this entirely new world that exists right alongside humans, and getting literally tortured by a secret agency that supposedly are the "good guys." She comes out of that relatively unfazed (maybe some nightmares), and actually way stronger because now she has a gift that she can actually use.

Plan some time to read when you start this book because you won't want to put it down!

Fav quotes (this isn't even all the ones I highlighted lol):
"He's gorgeous - a towering muscular frame that was my safe haven for three months."

"As soon as I see his abs, I realize this is a horrible mistake. I can't see him shirtless. It's my kryptonite."

"After he refused to tell me his secret - one I didn't realize could be this insane - I asked, "Are you dangerous?" Without hesitation, he said, "No. Not to you." "Who are you dangerous to?" "Anyone who tries to hurt you.""

"This is a lot for me to process. It's as if I've recently discovered that math exists and I'm trying to understand all of its elements from simple addition to calculus in one day. It feels impossible, yet I'm curious and I want to know it all. I suppose that's a little counterproductive when I'm also trying to forget that any of this ever happened."

"I was wrong when I thought Trey had done nothing to prevent my abduction. Turns out, he had tried, although his plan was stupid. Move to Paris? Seriously? Couldn't he have come up with something better?" (I find this amusing because I felt the same way, no woman is going to just agree to move to Paris with you without an explanation!! Total red flag vibes)

"I love this woman with my entire soul, and if never seeing my face again is what she wants, then okay."

"I'm going to make this up to her. I don't know when, and I don't know how, but someday, someway, I'm going to make up for my mistakes."

"It's official: No matter what happens, I'll always love the sound of my name on his lips."

""...I used to spend those hours just holding you and trying to sync my breaths with yours." ...With anyone else, that statement would be creepy. With Trey, it's wholesome."

"The things this woman does to me. The power she has over me with just one touch. I'm hers. For as long as she wants me, for whatever she wants me for, I'm hers. All hers."

"My lips travel upward until I find her mouth again. Panting hard, we return to what can only be described as an animalistic make-out session."

Thank you so very much to the author for a copy of this book!

Melissa Lam has done it again.
Just when I thought Ordinary Secrets wrecked me enough, Captured Immune looked me in the face, smiled sweetly, and proceeded to ruin me all over again. And you know what? I loved it.

This is the kind of “next book in a series” that doesn’t let you breathe. It builds perfectly on what Ordinary Secrets set up, upping the stakes, deepening the chaos, and dragging my emotions like a ragdoll through every scene.

Ariella and Trey are still a whole mess. I still love and hate them in equal measure. But Melissa Lam’s greatest magic? Making you want the pain. She gives you just enough hope, makes you believe maybe something good is coming... and then? Nope. CHAOS. And then more chaos.

The battle scenes (yes, plural) are short, sharp, and absolutely brutal. She doesn’t hold back. People die. Stakes rise. And somehow, through all that, the emotional undercurrent gets even stronger.

Melissa's writing style continues to be casual, smooth, and casually diabolical. Like your best friend is spilling secrets over coffee… except the secrets include soul-wrenching trauma, longing glances, and emotional gut punches.

Fast-paced. Raw. Wildly emotional. A total roller coaster.
If you haven’t started the Secrets Trilogy, I genuinely don’t know what you’re doing.

So far im IN LOVE with this series! I will say this book had some elements that felt "copied". It had a lot of elements that reminded me of twilight a little too much. Same wording for some conversations and the same "acts" or "scenes" (don't know what else to call it) from twilight just different character names. Other than that it still was a 5⭐️ read for me!

This book is deep yall. Secrets are uncovered, more questions arise, and alliances are shifting.

If I thought Trey’s inner dialogue in book 1 was gold then Ari is a comedian. The way I was snort laughing. Well that was in between cussing her out 🤦🏾‍♀️ now these 2 nutcases have rubbed off on me and have me looking like a psycho cause I’m going from laughing to being pissed off 🤡

We get to see more of Uncle Victor in this one and yes, he’s still a jerk. Even more so. We also meet some new Zordi’s and see some very interesting powers 😬

This is for sure a 5 steel toed boots rating because of the amount of times I wanted to play kickball with someone’s head 😡

Melissa loves her cliffhangers and this one is crazy. I’m talking jaw on the floor but also please be ok 🙏🏾. 15 more days until book 3! Not that I’m counting or anything 😬

OMG. MELISSA LAM YOU GENIUS QUEEN!!! 👑🔥
Melissa really said, “You thought Ordinary Secrets was intense? Let me blow your mind again.” And she DID. I literally devoured Captured Immune like a starving reader who hasn’t had a good book in YEARS. And now??? I’m emotionally unstable, brain-fried, and screaming into my pillow because HOW do you expect me to move on after that cliffhanger?! 😭💥
Captured Immune had me in a chokehold from page one. The twists? The secrets? The way Trey and Arella’s connection somehow got even deeper and more complicated? I wasn’t ready—and I loved every second of it.
Trey has my whole heart—flawed, fiery, and fiercely protective. And Arella? That girl is strength and sass wrapped in one complicated, lovable human. Their chemistry? It sizzles. But what really got me was the emotional weight behind their choices. You feel everything. The pain, the confusion, the trust issues, the slow (and slightly chaotic) healing.
Also, can we talk about the plot? Captivity, betrayal, secret powers, mysterious organizations, and an ending that made me stare at the wall like: what just happened?!
Melissa, please—never stop writing. I will read everything you create until the end of time. You have officially owned my heart and bookshelf. 💜📚
If you haven’t read this series yet, I am begging you to fix your life. Start with Ordinary Secrets, then come join me in this spiral of feels and desperate need for book 3. 😭🫀✨

Thank you Melissa Lam for giving me a copy of Captured Immune prior to release. All opinions are honest and my own.

First off, AHHHHHHH! This one has to be my favorite so far!

The first book, Ordinary Secrets, dropped off with an insane cliffhanger, and this book picked it up and RAN. The reason why I love this one so much more is because there’s a lot more action and a lot going on with the main plot of figuring out Arella’s immunity. AND THE TWISTS 😱 The way I audibly gasped every time there was a twist.

And then the ending…I did not want it to end. And in true Melissa style, had to leave me hanging so high with that cliffhanger 😠

Can’t be too mad though because the release of the third and final book of the Secrets Trilogy is only a couple months away! 🫶✨

I thought book one in this trilogy was intense, and it was. But jokes on me because this book was full of gasps and twists and heart pounding unpredictable moments and is sooo much more intense. I honestly am not sure how it is possible but I loved this book even more than the first one. What I loved: the pace of the story, learning so much more about the zordi world, the new character additions, the spicy scenes. This book is emotion evoking. It’s awesome. I am a bit miffed about some of the chaos at the end like wtffffff happened omg noooo. But once again feel as if I’ve been yeeted off a cliff and am going to pace around my house until the final installment comes and we have closure to the story. A must read! But clearly, read the first one first!

Read this baby in one day. Am I upset, yes. Am I worried..also yes. I couldnt put this down. I was crying through most of the book and my heart was racing through the rest. I love the magic in this book. The emotional wreck I'm in has me spiraling. Now I'm on a cliffhanger with my heart in my throat. Beautiful work. If you love to be emotionally destroyed definitely give this series a read when it's out. ❤️ this is definitely a book where love conquers..until the cliffhanger..uhhhg more tears now 😢 😭 you go through torture and healing then just more unknown turmoil!

Captured Immune is a roller coaster ride of emotions! Trey and Arella are dealing with what Trey believes to be the impossible. It’s so frustrating that the laws the Zordis have in place prevent Trey from being able to be truthful with Arella. I wanted to scream out, “Just tell her, dang it!” We know that Arella is obviously immune, you find that out pretty early on in Book 1, so I’m just going to say: Arella gets captured because clearly ZORDA wants to figure out why, and Trey wasn’t figuring it out fast enough (not that he’d share anything anyway).

I did not want to put this book down. Like, I could not! I needed to find out what happened next… then next… and ohhhhh boy, did the twists have my mouth dropping multiple times. Holy crap! Seriously, you are going to want to read this series, ’cause oh man, does it get your emotions going!

WHERE'S THE LAST BOOK?! I needed it like 2 days ago!

Ma'am, I thought the first one was good, but you one-upped YOURSELF! Wow! I love the fight in Arella and her growth. The suspense and twists? Who said you were allowed to do that to me? Trey's excitement? BROKE ME. 💔💔💔💔 I actually had some tears this time along with some goosebumps.

It may be fiction, but my brain did not get the notice. 😭

⭐️ 4/5, 🌶️ 1.5/5

Part two of this Zordi World is Captured Immune and as the title gives it away, Arella is captured and still quite immune to the Zordi gifts.

Arella and Trey are on the rocks after the whole pregnancy situation, and just when things start looking up again, everything gets flipped upside down. I won’t give it all away, so I’ll just say that their characters both have a lot of growth and development in a short timeframe that this takes place in… and it leaves us on another cliffhanger.

This is such an interesting and fun world to delve into, and we see a lot more Zordis and their gifts being used with this book! We also get a deeper look into Trey’s past, and even he learns a lot more about it than he knew before.

Overall, I enjoyed this, even though it had even less spice than the first book, and I can’t wait to read more and find out what happens next!

🔥 Book Review – Captured Immune (Secrets Trilogy #2) by Melissa Lam 🔥
Spoilers ahead, and trust me—you want to hurt this beautifully.

Let me start with this: I am not okay.
Melissa Lam didn’t just write a sequel. She built a pain tunnel, threw me in, sealed the exits, and then had the audacity to whisper, “This is just the beginning.”

Trey and Arella are back—but the fairytale doesn’t resume with warmth. It starts with a goodbye. A real one. The kind that leaves you gripping the pages, breath held, waiting for anything to make it stop hurting.

And then... it gets worse. And better. And worse again.
That emotional whiplash? Felt like flying through the sky on a tire at one moment and crawling through grief the next.

The way Lam writes? It’s cinematic. I didn’t just read the book—I smelled the rot of that god-awful car ride (and yeah, toe jam mixed with expired yogurt? Forever ruined cars for me). I felt the wind lash my face. I heard and felt the screams, pain, broken bones and blood. If immersive storytelling was a competition, this book would steal the trophy, light it on fire, and hand it back to you with a smirk.

Characters—old and new—hit hard. No one’s a filler. Every interaction is a thread in this massive emotional tapestry, and by the end? Baby, you’re tangled.

Let’s talk Trey.
Sacrifice? This man redefined it.
Promises? He doesn’t break them.
Loyalty? Brutal and beautiful.
Whether it’s flying through chaos or stealing a damn car, he does it for her. And you feel it—every choice, every look, every quiet moment he gives Arella when words aren’t enough.

Then... the bear.
That question? That lingering, gnawing mystery from Book 1?
Yeah. You’ll get your answer. And it won’t just satisfy you—it’ll shatter you in the best way.

Oh—and the interactive special edition box? Still an elite storytelling tool. Opening each item at the right time sucked me in even deeper. It's not reading anymore. It's living alongside them.

🔪 Gut-check moments: Countless.
⏳ Did I finish it in one day? Of course.
📚 Do I recommend it? Don’t walk—run. This story demands to be felt.

Lam knows how to write with intention. She lit that “smoking gun” in the background and waited... let you forget it... then boom—wrapped it up like the perfect bow on a ticking bomb.

So yeah, Captured Immune?
It doesn’t just continue the story.
It elevates it, destroys you with it, and then seduces you into begging for more.

I was given a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

I was so excited to get into this book! I went to re-read the last chapter of book 1, Ordinary Secrets, to get into the right mode. And OMG I was upset all over again! I didn't read the sneak peek chapter 1 on Captured Immune at the end of Ordinary Secrets because I normally don't read those, so going in blind after a few weeks had me gasping and making faces as I read it.

Captured Immune picks up where Ordinary Secrets left off. And I won't give the cliffhanger, now it ends on one and when we get into book two, the hurt is still there and ready to make you hurt more.
Arella is captured by ZIRDA and subjected to tests as they try to figure out her immunity. They have to escape and there are sooo many more secrets that get uncovered in this book that my head spins thinking about it. Just when you have an idea of what's going on, it shifts. Melissa did such a great job writing this. And the descriptive escape scene was so good. I was rooting for them and breathing hard while they did what they had to do to get out.

I really didn't want to put this down. I had such a good time reading it. I don't highlight (on my kindle) passages and phrases a whole lot, but here are a few I picked out because it had me in my feels for them or it made me laugh pretty hard.

“You look like the Wish version of Henry Cavill.”

"I flashback to the night I questioned Trey about his abnormalities. After he refused to tell me his secret—one I didn’t realize could be this insane—I asked, “Are you dangerous?” Without hesitation, he said, “No. Not to you.” “Who are you dangerous to?” “Anyone who tries to hurt you.”"

"The car smells like toe jam and expired yogurt. The backseat is covered in fast-food wrappers that have been collecting there for who knows how long."

Melissa has completely wrecked me and I am all too eager to see how this all ends with book three, Scrubbed Minds!!

Captured Immune is book two of the contemporary fantasy romance, Secrets Trilogy by Melissa Lam. I was excited to jump right into book two after the minor cliffhanger of book one. We rejoin Arella and Trey where the last book left off. This book is packed full of unexpected twists and turns that gave me whiplash in the best way possible! It’s a mixture of romantasy, mystery, adventure, and the constant danger surrounding the main characters.

This dual POV again focuses on Arella and Trey. Arella is captured by a secret organization called ZIRDA, a secret Zordi location used to run tests on special humans like Arella. The Zordi world is revealed to her, and Trey’s secret is out in the open. Arella’s special ability is highly sought after, and the Zordi will do anything to get answers, but her resistance to participating led to violent interrogation methods with a heartbreaking result.

Trey is put through the ringer in this book. Between being tortured and finding out some pretty shocking secrets, I have no idea how he keeps it together as well as he does. With his secret out in the open, he can finally be himself in front of Arella and show her the depth of his love.

I loved the introduction of the new characters and exciting new abilities. I am a sucker for superhuman powers. I loved the world that Melissa has created and how she allowed my geeky little brain to gobble this up. The action and uncertainty of who could be trusted kept me on the edge of my seat. There are still so many unanswered questions that only book three can answer! Sooo good! Highly recommended!

Thanks to Melissa Lam for gifting me an eARC of Captured Immune. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review. All opinions are my own.

He's determined to save her, but he's the one who needs saving.

I said the first book had me in a chokehold, which holds for the second book. This whole series has me in a chokehold. I read this book in a single day because I NEEDED to know what happened next so badly. I love this world, and this book adds so much to it. Melissa continues to make this world so interesting and has built such a fascinating world. I love the writing style within these books. Everything feels so thought out and planned down to the smallest detail. Thinking back on the first book and seeing the foreshadowing is AMAZING. I am pretty good at guessing twists, and some of them came out of left field in the best way. I was never expecting them. I still love Trey and think he is a green flag book boyfriend, trying his absolute best. He is such a complex character, and I want to hug him. I cannot wait to see him in book 3. Trey’s inner monologue is hilarious. Sometimes I just love reading from his POV. I am so excited to see how his mindset changes in book three after everything he has dealt with in books 1 and 2. I also love Arella. She is one of my favorite FMCs. She is bright, funny, and empathetic, even after dealing with so much. I cannot wait until the next book. I would still give anything to read it right this second. The Zordi World is so immersive, and you care so much about the characters that you are stressed out with them.

A Favorite Quote: “I’m hers. For as long as she wants me, for whatever she wants me for, I’m hers. All hers.”

Self-written Blurb: We are back in the Zordinary world and this time, Trey is determined to get his girl back. But when Arella is taken, Trey’s deceit comes to light. Can Arella see past Trey’s lies enough to trust him to get her out? Or will her entire world and everything she thought she knew to be true, crumble around her as she grapples with the discovery of the zordinary secrets. The only one who can save her is him. The only one who can save him is her. Can love heal all wounds or will their love perish in the ashes just as quickly as it ignited?

What I enjoyed: What a followup to Ordinary Secrets! Captured Immune was action packed and full of twists and turns. It was gritty and raw as Melissa Lam slowly began to peel back the layers of betrayal and secrets that is Trey’s life. I really enjoy Melissa’s style of writing in these books. It makes it easy and enjoyable to read and it is almost as if you are in the characters' heads. I like to say I’m pretty good at predicting twists, but there were a couple here that I didn’t predict. Melissa has a way with story telling that will distract you with one aspect of the story while silently building up another. Such a great read and I cannot wait for the third and final installment of the Secrets Trilogy!

Any struggles?: I didn’t have any struggles with this book and had it not been for life getting in the way- I would have zoomed through it!

Will I recommend and to who: Anyone who likes contemporary or urban-like fantasy with romance should read this series.

Captured Immune is book 2 in the Secrets Trilogy and it was a crazy ride. Book 2 picks up right where we left off. Trey and Arella have so many secrets and what seems like an impassable barrier between them. They will try to move on without each other, but unfortunately the people who seek to use Arella will take advantage of Trey’s absence.
When Arella finds herself alone and captive in a strange location with strange people. She is so confused and scared. That confusion only worsens when the one person she never expected to see walks through the door.
There are so many twists and turns in Captured Immune. It is an insanely fast read and there is never a dull moment. Trey and Arella will need to work together to figure how to get themselves out, but working together doesn’t mean staying together. With so many secrets being revealed and betrayal around every corner, their relationship will face trial after trial. Along the way they will learn more about their pasts and about themselves. And in the end as the smoke clears, while some things will be revealed the ultimate question will still be unanswered. Can Trey and Arella have a happy ever after?
I had so much fun with this book and I can honestly say I did not see that ending coming. The reveals are insane and the cliffhanger is absolutely brutal, but I’m a glutton for punishment. So here is sit waiting for Melissa to serve me another portion of crazy! Captured Immune will release on May 15th. Read Ordinary Secrets now, so you can be ready!!

Review:
Taking off seamlessly from book one, we experience the fall out of Trey and Arella's revelation and status of their relationship. Rather quickly the drama deepens as Arella is kidnapped and Trey becomes a pawn in a cruel plan by his Uncle to torture him in an effort for Arella to control her immunity powers. I'm also glad for the recap of the Zordis powers and abilities because sometimes I couldn't keep track (because each has several) so it helped a bit. There is a plot point or two I questioned but the pacing kept me continuing on with ease. And Arella seemed to go back and forth about trusting Trey a few times too many. Guess I just fell for Trey so much! He's such a protector in this one and goes through a lot.

What I loved in book two was how we learn more about these two super powered factions and their secret war brewing and also having our couple test their true feelings towards one another now that his secret is revealed. It's always wonderful to see an FMC fight to protect her man! And there's exciting action set pieces in the middle that were a highlight for me. I love when we get some adrenaline going!

So in all, I really loved how we got some intensified drama here as well as some down time to learn more about what's going on behind the scenes with the Zordis and The Royals. Definitely wanna see how this wraps in the final book.

I was given a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

First off: A huge thank you to the author, Melissa Lam, for gifting me a copy of Captured Immune! I am voluntarily leaving a review, and all opinions are my own.

With that said, OMG. I binged this entire novel in a total of approximately six hours. This novel is—alongside book one (Ordinary Secrets)—absolutely amazing! Not going to lie, I had very high expectations after book one, and this novel did not let me down at all! The character depth somehow just keeps growing, the overall story plot and progression are so very clearly thought out, and everything just worked in perfect harmony. At no point did I lose interest. I actually found myself up past my bedtime due to needing more. This book left me feeling heartbroken (much like the first one), questioning, happy at the good things that happened, and honestly just a tornado of emotions that words simply would not properly explain. The writing quality is top-tier, there’s emotion, there’s plot, there’s smut, overall, this is a beautiful novel. It is very obvious that a lot of time, hard work, sweat, thought, care, love, and more has been put into writing this series. I am very much looking forward to the next novel! (Especially after that ending.)

Again, thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of this novel and giving me the opportunity to read it! I don’t need to read the next book to know it will be just as good if not better, so, to anyone who happens upon my review, I strongly recommend this series!

I was so thankful to the author for sending me a copy of the second book in her debut series. I really didn’t know how I was possibly going to survive the wait.. now here I am, pacing, waiting impatiently for the final book. I suppose I could use this time to (voluntarily) share my opinion of book two, Captured Immune. Side note: if you haven’t already, check out my review of book one, Ordinary Secrets, to get an idea of my state of mind coming into this book.

I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this was so much more! The transition from book one to book two is seamless. Character development deepens as we learn more and more about our main characters and some of the others. Captured Immune mirrors, possibly surpasses, the action, excitement, and suspense we came to know and crave in Ordinary Secrets. If you’re hoping to find any sense of closure after that double cliff hanger in book one… you won’t. Melissa has a knack for keeping you on the edge of your seat and leaving you in shock and wanting. I can’t wait to see where the third and final book of the Secrets trilogy takes us, and I already know I’ll be holding my breath, praying for closure as the release date approaches. Something tells me I’m in for one hell of a book hang over. (The best kind!) it can’t get here fast enough!

I was gifted a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

In Ordinary Secrets, Trey gets assigned a mission to find out more information on Arella and her immunity to the Zordi powers. Little did he know he would fall hard for her and would do anything to protect her. Captured Immune picks up immediately from the cliffhanger and takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. Will Trey be able to keep Ari safe while staying alive? What if Ari wants to keep her distance? Will Ari be able to trust again?

I absolutely loved this book, so much that I read it in one evening. Captured Immune is THE EXACT sequel to Ordinary Secrets that I envisioned. I love Melissa's writing style and her descriptive words. She truly writes for your mind, body, and soul. There are parts that I could feel and hear like it was happening to me. Other parts that make you want to scream and yell (those twists!!!!). And other parts are so emotional that you don't even realize that you're crying. My favorites are those little quips that help ease the pain and make you laugh. Some of my questions from Ordinary Secrets were answered and can be checked off the list, but I have new questions and new theories.

Thank you so much to the author for gifting me this book

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Where do I even begin with this review?!

This is the second book to this amazing series by Melissa Lam and man does she hit it out of the park!

The first book ends in a cliff hanger that was so good, this book is another cliff hanger and it's even better!!
My jaw hit the floor and I can't wait for the third book!

I was hooked immediately, this book is full of action, heartbreak and twists that I never saw coming! I usually can figure out what is going to happen in a book, but not with this series and I LOVE that!!

When you start reading you think you have an idea of what is going to happen, but you don't! This storyline continues from the first book into this one perfectly, and it keeps you wanting more, I had a hell of a time putting this book down.

Melissa is 100% one of my new favourite authors!

Her writing style is descriptive, you can picture everything in your mind as you read, it's like a movie ( I told her this series would make a fantastic movie ) it will have you feel all the emotions, I laughed, I cried, I swore, lol! It's like a rollercoaster!

If you want a book and series that will reel you in right away, than this is for you!!

Thank you to the @authormelissalam for gifting me this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review & it was such a treat to dive into this world.
There are books you read, and then there are books that grab you by the throat and refuse to let go, Captured Immune was the latter. I was not prepared for the chaos this book brought into my life. Trey and Arella's bond somehow got even messier, more magnetic, and 10x more intense. The way their story unfolded felt like watching something beautiful burn fast, fierce, and impossible to look away from.
The twists was absolutely relentless. Every time I thought, “Okay, I’ve seen it all,” the book said, “Oh really?” and flipped everything upside down. My jaw stayed on the floor, honestly. But what made me love this more than book one? The pace, the stakes & the secrets plus that maddening mystery around Arella’s immunity that kept pulling me deeper with every chapter. This book didn’t just raise the bar it launched it into orbit. Now I’m just sitting here, emotionally unstable, counting days till book 3 arrives

I CAN'T NOT GIVE IT A 5 STAR!
This book absolutely deserves all the love from wherever possible!!!
You love fantasy? Read this.
You love overprotective fictional men? Read this.
You love stories that mess with your head?? READ. THIS!
The plot is wild and the plot twists? They will wreck your brain's chemistry.
A very clear warning: When you come up with your own theories after reading the first book, be ready to be proven wrong!
Our beautiful author, Melissa (I repeat for the 100th time), is a pure, gorgeous-headed genius!
Her writing flows onto the paper and she WILL keep you engaged with whatever masterpiece she writes. I was thrashing in bed while reading this and at one point, I had to put my phone away to let my brain process the plot twists.
If you are going to read this book (I know you will because once you are done with the first book, you'll crave more), keep your tissues/ handkerchiefs ready. You are gonna need it. And wish you all a safe roller coaster ride, guys! *a huge ass flying kiss to anyone who reads this*

Tropes-
Tortured hero
Angst (it's obvious)
Redemption
Forced Proximity
Kidnapping
Secrets
Family drama
Drunken confessions
Do not touch her

After the shocking ending of book 1, Trey and Arella’s saga continues in Captured Immune. I want to keep this review spoiler free so this will be mostly impressions and not a lot of actual facts. Also, if you don’t need to check for triggers, skip trigger warnings until after the book because there are some mild spoilers, but read them because Melissa is creative in how she writes read them because they are a good read.

This book will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. There is relationship drama, forced separation, a lot of action, and some unexpected heroes and surprising villains. Aside from all that you have a story that pushes the limits and tests the idea of who can you really trust and what you will do for love. Some questions are answered, some questions remain, and once again this book ends in a doozy of a cliffhanger.

The pacing is excellent, in this book. Once you start you won’t want to put it down. I recommend allowing time to read the whole book in one sitting. Melissa has woven together a story that grabs you and won’t let you go and you will wish for more pages and count the days until you can get your hands on book 3. Grab your snacks and dive in because this one is a wild ride.

The first chapter of this book got me. It sucker-punched me straight in the heart and soul. I was living the loss of Arella through Trey, and I was SHATTERED. Then I read the next two chapters and wondered how I was going to survive the jagged pain burrowing deep into Trey. If you ever want to suck me straight into a book, give me pain. Give me devastation. Make me feel like the world is ending. Because I chugged this book like it was Healing Water, except I had no desire to be healed. Gigantic round of applause to Melissa for this second book in her trilogy. The twists and turns, Katie, VICTOR!!! I didn't even care that I didn't get more of Javina or Liz (although I'm waiting for either some crazy business to happen with Liz or for her to be the ultimate friend). I cannot WAIT for the final installment, because I need that clarity regarding Arella's backstory and I need to see some people go down. I'm here and ready to FIGHT!

It’s taken me two days to write this. I can’t put into words how emotional I was reading this book. The middle books in a series usually hit the hardest. There are so many obstacles for the characters to overcome, and it never ends how you want it too. The wait for book 3 will be excruciating!! See below for the full review.

I was gifted this book by the author. All opinions/thoughts are my own.

We pick up right where we left off in Ordinary Secrets. Betrayal and more secrets hang in the air, and our dear characters are going THROUGH it!

This installment in the Secrets Trilogy has everything the first book had, and more. MORE stakes, MORE emotions, MORE action, MORE laugh out loud moments, and (much to Trey and Arella’s chagrin) MORE devastating moments.

Grab a box of kleenex and something to throw across the room that isn’t your kindle, and buckle up! It’s worth every page and empty tissue box.

📝He’s determined to save her, but he’s the one who needs saving.

Tropes/Stand Out Moments
💔Attempted redemption
😬High stakes
🫦Will they/wont they
♾️Relationship building
