Toshia resides in Nicholasville, Kentucky with her husband, son, a dog, and a cat. Growing up in the small area known as Poosey she was a tom-boy and country girl at heart. At nineteen she married her husband, and then at twenty-one was blessed with a beautiful baby boy. She's been a stay-at-home mom since he was born, enjoying watching her son grow up.
Now, five years later, she is an avid reader and known in the book world as a reviewer. She is currently running a group for another author on Facebook. It was there, in that group, that she found the strength and courage to write her own book. Always having a love for writing, she finally said. "I can do this, I can write my own book and share the stories that are in my head." She's gearing up to release her first book Ten Year Crush.
I've read quite a number of books where the girl falls for the brother's best friend. But I did not like this.
The writing was alright. What infuriated me the most were the characters. I knew what was bound to happen and it felt like they took a long time to get to that point. And in the midst, the main characters made some foolish mistakes. I get that characters aren't perfect and they make mistake, I accept that fact. But it didn't feel realistic for them to do such things especially with the feelings they both had. I felt that the storyline was also a little too predictable. I didn't like the way it progressed.
I really didn't like the book. That does not mean it's a terrible story. No. These are my opinions and your thoughts may very well differ from mine.
OH MY GOSH!!! This novel was awesome!!! Gabby & Cam we such awesome characters. Gabby was spunky, caring, loving, and funny!! Every emotion she went through I felt it. Cam was definitely swoon worthy material and oh sooo sweet!!! His love for Gabby had me smiling mostly the whole time. They had their ups and downs just like every couple and they both grew from the experiences. Now the secondary characters, Josh & Tiff....wow....loved them so much!!! They had me laughing so hard. Fantastic job Toshia Slade!!!! I cannot wait for the second book!!!
Ten Year Crush is the debut novel from new author Toshia Slade. I was lucky enough to be offered an advance copy of this book, to read and offer my thoughts on. The book is a sweet, fun, easy romantic read. This is one of those books that you can sit down with and just enjoy. The plot was something a little different, the characters were easy to connect to. I mean hey, I’m sure at one time or another - we’ve all had a crush on that one person that you thought you could never have. I for one, was the queen of little heart doodles on yearbook photos of my object of affections over years ;)
We meet Gabby Murphy on her 11th birthday. As a young girl, her heart is open, she is ready for that precious experience of first love. And for her, her crush appears in the form of the most forbidden fruit - her brother’s best friend Cam. As the years pass, she falls more and more in love with him, but is too scared to ever admit her feelings. Instead, she suffers watching him ride the carousel of girls that comes with college life. All that changes when someone comes into her life that catches her eye…
Cameron Taylor has always know that his best friend’s sister Gabby had a crush on him. Not wanting to ruin their friendship or risk hurting Gabby, he has always kept her at arm’s length - never once crossing the line. At 11 years old, she was adorable. At 21, she is irresistible and he struggles to keep the promise he made to himself. When Gabby starts dating, he finally realizes that he is done denying what he wants - and what he really wants, is Gabby.
I truly enjoyed this book - its a light read, full of romance and lots of sexy scenes that will satisfy your inner naughty girl. There was plenty of drama and suspense to keep the story interesting as the love triangle between Cameron and Gabby and her new beau unfolds. Was it the most complicated and emotional book? Maybe not, but I am a fan of romance, and this book gave me what I needed.
Toshia Slade, this was a fantastic debut - I can’t wait to see what else you have for us in future books. Tiffany and Josh get my vote for their own story *hint, hint*.
Cam is a hunky mess. He doesn't know how to be with the woman he loves without messing up his friendship with his two best friends. This guy makes me angry but at the same time makes me jealous. He is swoon-worthy!
Gabby is trying to get over the man she has crushed on since she was 11 years old. She meets someone else but is he enough to get her thoughts away from Cam? Her embarrassing moments were so funny I couldn't help but laugh at the awkwardness I would feel if I was in her position.
Ten Year Crush is so absolutely cute. You can feel the love between Cam and Gabby every time they talk to each other or ever look at each other. Toshia, this was an amazing first book. I look forward to reading more from you. So keep writing!
It started out good, but soon became annoying with all the crying. In my opinion the story was dragged out. The only reason why I even finished the book is because I can't stand to leave books unfinished.
I don't love nor hate this, cause the story is very predictable and not much of an awesome one. So, I guess for a light weekend read this one is for me.:)
More than half of the book consists of read the heroine fucking with Brandon... While thinking about the Hero all the time. Then, as soon as she finishes with him, as soon as, he leaves the door, she begs the Hero to make her forget (with sex, of course) And when they finish, she tells him that it has been “the best sex of her life”... Exactly the same thing than she told Brandon xD "Now in college, she's finally ready to get on with her life." (Synopsis) WTF? Gabby LONG AGO continued with his life. She had appointments and relationships with other boys. Brandon is not the first boy he dates, nor is he the first boy he sleeps with. Because according to the synopsis, it seems that Gabby has spent years waiting for Cam sitting and it's just now that he decided to go ahead and go out / fuck someone. And it is not true! Brandon is simply the guy she is tangled with now while the book is running. Nothing more. What makes Cam's reaction with Brandon theme look very absurd, when there were more boys before. I also found Gabby very hypocritical. She is enraged to learn that Cam slept with another girl after them having their first kiss ... But she, Gabby, after that kiss, has been fucking non-stop with Brandon (For 2 months, like rabbits in heat) When Cam reminds him of this she gets upset and angry! Hahaha By the way. Gabby is also super romantic lol She has Cam's birthday card next to the condoms she uses with Brandon.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Gabby's reaction to Cam when she met him for the very first time was realistic and absolutely adorable. I swear it puts you right back to your very first crush and the whole...giggly ohmygod that boy is cute phase.
Even as the time passes the feelings she has for Cam only grow as they grow. I could see the struggle he had and why he would keep his distance. But Gabby was freaking strong and vocalized how she felt.
We all have our weak moments and make mistakes. Our two characters do too and it helps them grow. They finally come to terms with what they want.
This book had me wanting to sit down and read. The story is that good. I think my cowboy book boyfriend just got knocked on his ass by my new cowboy, CAMRON TAYLOR.
Gabby and Cam have a beautiful love story. They go through a lot but hey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and truly their strength gets through a lot.
Toshia, has done a great job as a new author and I am excited to see what else she can grace us with. I am happy to say that she had me emotional in some parts and that is a huge thing for me. If I start talking to the characters its a very good thing and boy was I talking to them.
Toshia Slade is a new author for me and knocked this book out of the park. This book follows this lives of Gabby, her brother Josh, her friend Tiffany and of course there is Cam who is not only the guy Gabby has been crushing on for ten years but he is also Josh's best friend and business partner.
Gabby is tired of waiting for Cam to get his act together and even though she is in love with him she tries to move on with a kid in one of her classes, Brandon. Cam knows he wants Gabby but he is so afraid of losing both Josh and her in the end that he won't persue his feelings, until jealousy of seeing Gabby with Brandon kicks in. Of course Cam and Gabby get what they want in the end.
This is a fun and entertaining story. It fills you with anticipation so that you can't wait to see what happens next. I struggled each night to put this book down. I hated when I had to be at work because it meant I couldn't read. I had to know what happened next and boy was I surprised by what I got. I would highly recommend this book to everybody!
OMG, I LOVED this book!! I was hooked from page one and did not want to put it down once I started. I loved Gabby and Cam and was rooting for them from the start. I will admit that there for a while I wanted to knock Cam around a bit but only to make him wake up before it was to late. Once he got his stuff together he was the perfect #1 boyfriend and Cam and Gabby together......HOLLLLLYYYYYY HOTNESSS!!!! These two were on fire and had my kindle smoking!!!
I loved Gabby's best friend Tiffany. That girl was such a hoot and an awesome best friend. I am crossing my fingers that we will get a book two on Tiffany and Gabby's brother Josh. The sparks between these two in Ten Year Crush was off the charts!
This is Toshia's debut novel and I absolutely LOVE it and can't wait for more books from her!!! If you have not one clicked it yet...what are you waiting for? I highly recommend.
I honestly could not finish this book...I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but I just couldn't do it.
The writing style is not one that I enjoy, and it felt way too much like it was a teenagers journal entry to be completely honest. Way too many descriptions on things we really don't need to know about, and the thoughts of the characters were just too highschoolish to me.
After finding out her boyfriend has lied and cheated on her she shouldn't be ready to fall into another guys bed not even an hour later no matter how much she was in love with the guy. It just doesn't happen! Completely unrealistic in my opinion.
Returned this ebook for a refund and will not be recommending it.
Loved this book!! Ladies, if you want a great love story that stretches through time than this your book. 10 Year Crush delivers just the right amount of heartache and emotional drama, only to pick you up and put you back on your feet. The characters are fun and easy to love (most of the time ;) and have great chemistry. (Hello HOT sex scenes!)
Toshia did a great job with her debut novel and this definitely needs to be added to your TBR list... The only question that remains....Will there be a Josh and Tiff book??? My vote....HELL YES!!!!
This book tells the story of Gabby Murphy and Cameron (Cam) Taylor. Cam is the best friend of Gabby's brother, Josh. They first meet at Gabby's 11th birthday party when Cam comes to spend the night with Josh and that is when Gabby's crush first develops. Fast forward 10 years and it's the day of Gabby's 21st birthday and she is getting ready to celebrate with Cam, Josh, and Tiffany (Gabby's BFF) and here is where the story begins.
This story is told from both Gabby and Cam's POV's. Even though Gabby has harbored a crush on Cam for 10 years, she has never expressed this to him (though he knows) and Cam has also realized he is feeling something for Gabby that is more than a friendship, but this is only something he has realized in the last couple of months. Cam may recognize he has more than platonic feelings towards Gabby, he is also not willing to risk the friendship he has with Gabby or Josh, so he feels that is is best that he ignores whatever feelings he has. While the four of them are out celebrating Gabby's birthday, Cam gets extremely jealous when Gabby starts dancing with another male. Cam takes her from the club and in the middle of the parking lot an argument ensues. It is during this argument that Cam confesses his feeling to Gabby, but stabs the knife right through her heart when he tells her that he will not jeopardize his friendships and pursue a relationship with Gabby. Gabby is clearly heartbroken, but moves on by dating Brandon (the guy from the club).
I will say at this point, drama will fly in this book. It is a love story, so I don't think that I am spoiling anything when I say that of course, Gabby and Cam wind up together in the end. It's the process of getting there that comprises this book.
I really wanted to love this book. In fact, I think that the actual storyline is a very good one, it just wasn't very well written (in my opinion) and here are my issues: The story is told from both POV's, which I love. I enjoy being able to get into the mind of both the H and h. In the case of this book, I will say that the author did better telling the story from Cam's POV (but only slightly). The inner dialogue of Gabby was very frustrating to read. So much of it was unnecessary, that it seemed that the author was just filling space. So because of this, I really wasn't too fond of Gabby. Also, there are some issues with Gabby's relationship with Brandon. Usually if the end result of a relationship is bad (in this case, very bad), there is at least some foreshadowing. Truth be told, Brandon was a pretty decent guy, until BAM, he wasn't. Like, he went from good boyfriend to douche canoe very quickly. Nothing was amiss in their relationship until they go out one night and he begins to disappear a lot. Her inner dialogue questions this as being very strange behavior, but she never really digs in, she just accepts his answer of the "beer going straight through him". This is also the same time that Cam kisses Gabby. I get there needs to be drama, I enjoy drama in a book. However, in this book, the drama seems to be compacted in areas. Everything seems to go straight to shit at the same time. Now, another issue is the relationship between Tiffany and Josh. I will say, the author did a very job with these characters. It is clearly obvious at the start of this book, that Josh and Tiffany have a "thing" for one another, and that theme runs throughout the majority of this book, to the point that you think they will be hooking up. But NOTHING comes from it. There is even a point where Gabby recognizes that something is not quite right with Tiffany and even expresses that she needs to spend some quality girl time with her. But it doesn't develop, you never know what was wrong with Tiffany (and she was a character that I liked), it was almost like the author forgot to tie up those loose ends. Josh is very protective of Gabby (his only sibling) to the point of punching Cam a few time is defense of Gabby. And this happens, even though Josh knows Cam's true feelings towards Gabby. Here's where that protective older brother vibe didn't click for me. A Halloween party is happening, and Brandon shows up (as Gabby's date). Something goes down and Cam and Brandon get into an altercation. During this altercation, which is being witnessed by all, Brandon calls Gabby some very ugly names, but Josh does nothing. He doesn't jump and get a few punches in, in fact, when Gabby slaps Brandon across the face (which was very well deserved) Josh pulls her off of him. Very strange. It didn't vibe with the character traits that were already established.
As a side note, if the sex was written better, the book would be a little better. I didn't think that they were hot at all. Maybe my mind is dirtier than most (although I don't think so), but the scenes had potential, just came across as very amateur.
So, as you can see I do have many issues with this book. I really wanted to see where the relationship between Josh and Tiffany went, which even if there is a follow up to this book, I don't think I will be able to read it. I did give the book 3 stars, because I think that the story is a great idea, it just wasn't well executed. There is an epilogue and they do get their HEA, it's just so frustrating when the book could have been so much better. So, really I don't recommend. But if you chose to go down the road, know what you're getting.
"You don't think I notice you?" I yell, causing her to jump back a little. "You're wrong! I notice your beautiful green eyes. Your short legs and how damn hot they'd look wrapped around me. Your curves that make my damn mouth water. I wanna run my hands from you perfect tits, to those hips and around to your sexy ass. I get hard every time I look at you." I take a deep breath. "Yeah, Thumper. I do notice you." ~ Camron Taylor
You'd think well, problem solved, they're both attracted to each other end of story. Yea, not so much. Because sometimes, even when you want something really bad, you know you just can't have it.
Haven't we all had a crush at sometime in our lives? I know I have. I've had one that lasted almost as long as ten years. Well, truth, it's still kind of a crush. But this book is about Camron Taylor and Gabby Murphy. Camron is Gabby's brother Josh's best friend. They've all known each other forever. At one point, Camron even thought of Gabby as a little sister. Then about five years ago, he started to see her a lot differently.
Here's the thing, Gabby doesn't think 0f Cam as a big brother. She's had a crush on him since she was eleven years old. On the night of Gabby's 21st birthday party, everyone's tipsy and having a good time, so you think sparks will fly between Gabby and Cam. Nope, that's not what happens at all. In a huge show of testosterone Cam drags Gabby off the dance floor, confesses his feelings and then tells her they can't be together. Cam feels like he can't have sort of relationship with Gabby because if it ends he thinks he'll lose not only Gabby, but his best friend Josh.
This decision leaves them both miserable. And what do you do when you're miserable? You drown your sorrows in alcohol and random sex to forget the one you really love. It's a huge mess. Cam tries to forget Gabby by getting wasted and having random sex every night. Then Gabby hooks up with the first guy that asks her out. The problem? When they're with these other people all they do is think about each other.
This all blows up one night when Cam discovers Gabby's boyfriend Brandon doing something uber stupid. After thoroughly kicking Brandon's ass, and throwing him out of the party, Cam makes the decision that he's going to do whatever it takes to make Gabby his. Even though Cam wants to wait for things to get physical, when Gabby says she needs him, it's on. And damn is it on! These two definitely get very hot and sweaty every chance they can. Unfortunately, one big brother Josh is not crazy about the timing of this new relationship and punches Cam out.
Now don't think I gave it all away, because there's a plot twist that involves obnoxious, pill popping Brandon. If you didn't like him before, you'll absolutely hate him now. The boy is a fool.
Camron is completely swoon worthy. I could see crushing on him for ten years or more. He's got dark hair and blue eyes. Then he's got, the type of hair that always looks mussed up and tattoos on his very fit body. Tattoos that Gabby finds herself wondering what it would be like to lick them. Camron is loyal and fiercely protective of the people he loves. All of that equals a very close to perfect book boyfriend.
If you've ever had a crush in your life, you'll understand the way Gabby felt. I'm giving Ten Year Crush a four lip smack rating. It's such a sweet story and the characters are totally likable and realistic. Now, I'm waiting to find out what's going on between Tiffany and Josh. Hmmmmmmm....
My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘TEN YEAR CRUSH' by Author TOSHIA SLADE (via: Booksmoviesfandoms.wordpress.com):
This is the debut novel for the new author Toshia Slade and the novel is titled: Ten Year Crush. This novel is of the genres romance and New Adult. The story is written in the two P.O.V.’s(point of views) of the main characters, Gabby Murphy and Camron Taylor.
The story is about college student Gabby Murphy and her long time crush on her older brother’s best friend, Camron Taylor. She first became well aware of her crush on her eleventh birthday after literally falling into Camron’s arms(and lap). From that day on, she has watched him date and flirt with many girls while wishing that she could be the one girl he would want instead of the rest. For now, Gabby and Cam share a great friendship and that’s all. She now lives with her long time best friend Tiff who also is well aware of Gabby’s secret crush and she always tells Gabby she needs to do something about it.
Camron Taylor never saw Gabby as more than his best friend Josh’s little sister until she became a teenager and he began to take notice of her in a different way. Regardless, Cam never said anything or tried anything because of his loyalty to the friendship he has had with Josh. He’s liked her for so long and tries his best to make sure to never let his feelings become anything more than friendship. Now that he has a successful business with his partner and bestfriend Josh, he tries to focus on that instead of on the girl he can never have. But on a night out, Gabby begins cutting loose and Cam can’t take keeping it all to himself. And soon after, he begins to feel like something isn’t right about Gabby’s new boyfriend.
‘Ten Year Crush’ reminds us about carrying a long time crush on that one special person, that seems to only gets stronger with time. Will Gabby and Cam ever share their true secret feelings for each other? Is something going to detour them from getting a chance to ever be together? Will Cam ever be able to admit his feelings to Gabby without ruining his friendship with his best friend Josh? I definitely recommend this lovely novel for all readers, especially if you’ve ever experienced your own special crush. There are so many feelings, references to great songs from this sensational story that will take you back to the exciting flutters of your own first crush.
My Blogging Reader's Star Rating for 'TEN YEAR CRUSH' is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars! :)
Visit my Blog and see Memorable quotes and character photos of how I imagined them while reading TEN YEAR CRUSH.
It has been a long time since I have read such an emotionally charged book. This book had me holding back tears before the second chapter. I could actually feel the heartache and undeniable love that these two had for each other. To read about the way Gabby went from having a crush to loving Cam with all that she was over 10 years made me want to go hug my hubby and be thankful that he got his head out of ass faster than Cam..lol But then to read how Cam has been in love with Gabby for the past five years but is afraid to show it outta fear of losing her brother Josh as his best friend and then screwing things up with Gabby and losing the relationship he has with her, was absolute torment.
Gabby first laid eyes on Cam at the age of eleven and literally fell for him that night. Fast forward ten years and she still carries a flame for him but it has grown to full blown love that all but consumes her. She feels like he will never reciprocate and after her twenty-first birthday party he tells her just that. (And let me tell you that seen will tear your heart out and have you giving your book a what the fuck look.) So she decides to move on and meets Brandon, at first he is so loving and caring towards her but then she starts to notice something is off but can’t put her finger on it. When everything comes to ahead she realises that the love she feels for Cam can never be replaced by any man and decides to end it but when she does all hell breaks loose but never fear one sexy ass man is there to pick her up..Cam
Cam has been best friends with Josh for the past ten years and watched Gabby turn into a beautiful women and he slowly fell in love with her. But fear keeps him from moving forward till one day after countless nights of being a man whore, he realises that Gabby could very well be the love of his life and he’s throwing it all away. He vows to show her the man he can be and be the one to make her smile, scream out in pleasure and hold her in her lowest times. When Brandon is in the picture he just knows something is off about him and when push comes to shove he is there for Gabby every step of the way.
So I don’t want to give more away to you all so I’m just going to let you in on my love of this book and its characters. Gabby and her best friend Tiffany have a friendship that I think every girl can relate to. The names they call each other and the shit they say and do to each other had me smiling and laughing till it hurt. Plus I had to call my bestie to let her know I love her to death. The way I see it any book that can bring out every emotion known to man in me is a must read in my opinion!! So do yourselves all a favor and read this book…hot country men, hot sex and one hell of a story that goes from crush to burning bright love.
Exuberant, wonderful exploration of love between old friends turned lovers!
Exuberant, wonderful exploration of love between old friends turned lovers!
This is a rather steamy book, with the "f" word rather prevalent: I think I would have liked it a lot better without so much of that. That being said, once I got used to just reading over the overwhelming number of those, the story is well done. The two main characters take turns narrating, using the first person. Conveniently, their best friends are the other's siblings, and roommates. Also conveniently, they all seem to have more than enough money. While the two guys have jobs, the women are in college. The book begins with Gabby in love with Cam, from the time the were a lot younger. Just another case of females mature faster than males, really. However, he seems to still think she is just his best friend's sister. In the meantime, he thinks she's off-limits, because she is....his best friend's sister. (I have never actually seen this happen, but it is prevalent in books.) In true romance fashion, she tries to make him jealous, either consciously or subconsciously, by dating another guy. He tries to ignore her by sleeping around, big time. Eventually, they do realize that they love each other. She breaks up with the other guy. And then the best part of the book starts. There is a certain amount of tension that develops due to the ex-boyfriend, who turns out to be a real problem type. Drug dealer, and user, with a Texas-size streak of mean, and an inability to understand small words, like "no". The author does an excellent job of bringing out the fear a stalker can create. She should be commended for trying to bring this issue forward in a way people can see it. Hopefully, this will allow more people to understand the fear that stalking victims feel. In addition, this book may help people understand that stalking doesn't necessarily end. with watching. The book does have an excellent ending, and I confess, in the last couple chapter, I shed a few tears. If bad language puts you off, this book won't work for you. There is also a lot of graphic, sometimes rough sex, with descriptions that would be clinical except for the use of slang for body parts most of the time.
Ten Year Crush is a beautiful love story about two people who loved each other as long as they can remember.
Gabby is a sweet girl who is also strong and feisty. She is loyal and a good friend, a good sister and a good daughter. Gabby is the girl next door, the good person we all would like to know.
Cam is also a very loyal and dedicated person. He is the hot guy all the girls and ladies of all ages have a huge crush on. He is the hot guy we all crave and the one who melts us.
The best thing about this book was the characters. They all fit perfectly in the story. Their personalities blend beautifully and create a nice and lovely environment. Josh and Tiffany are very good supporting characters. Tiffany is the outgoing girlfriend who always has Gabby’s back and who has such a unique way with words..Oh Tiffany’s toasts are memorable! Josh is a very good friend to Cam, but also a very good brother to Gabby. He manages to maintain that invincible line uncrossed. He doesn’t meddle but speaks his mind from time to time.
The writing is good. There is a nice flow throughout the book, with no loopholes and no abnormal transitions. There was a point in the story that I didn’t like, because the involved characters moved too fast. You may have no problem with it, but I did.
In general, the book was good. However, the story as it was presented is not original at all. Like I said before, the book is well written. But the events that occurred in the book are very predictable. It felt like many other books I’ve read in the past. The first half of the book was extremely better than the other half. The second half, though, was too predictable.
In conclusion, Toshia Slade seems to be a good and talented author. Ten Year Crush is a beautiful romantic book with many sexy elements that will leave you hot and bothered… I would simply prefer more original scenes..
So, 4 Gorgeous Stars go to Ten Year Crush..........
Ten Year Crush by Toshia Slade 6 freakin stars! Oh, I can only give 5 you say? Booo to you.
Very rarely do I sit down 2 minutes after I finish a book to write a review. Most of the time I take a while to sort what I want to say. This book demanded that I not wait. Gabby has had a crush on Cam since her 11th birthday, the day she first met him. He is her brothers best friend and business partner. 10 years later and she is still crushing on him hard! Cam is conflicted on his feelings for Gabby. He has noticed her as more than his “best friends little sister” for more than 5 years, but has never acted on it. He does not want to ruin his friendship with either of them. In walks Brandon. He is a way for Gabby to try to get her mind off cam. He and Gabby date for a bit, all while she is trying to get Cam off of her mind. The emotion in this book is the first thing that I noticed. You really relate to how the characters are feeling right off the bat. I am not usually a fan of more than 1 POV, but Toshia did a great job and balanced everything out well. The way Gabby and Cam feel about each other makes you want to climb into the story and shake the ever loving crap out of them and ask them “what the hell are you doing?” The sexy scenes are HOT. Gabby knows what she likes and surprises even herself when she says what she wants, and how quickly. She is my kind of woman! Cam turns out to be a stud in the bedroom. He also is well aware of what he wants and knows how to get it. The love and hate shown in this book really take you on a journey. There are drugs, violence, and other issues that may turn some readers off, but I can honestly say, justice is served. Have no fear on that.
Ten Year Crush is such an easy read that you won't want to put down. I finished this story with a great big smile on my face. This book will make you laugh, sigh, and sympathize with Toshia Slade's characters. In this book, we are focused on Gabby and Cam. Gabby has a had a major crush on Cam for ten years. Cam is best friends with Gabby's brother, so when he starts to have feelings for Gabby, he buries them and loses himself in other women. When Gabby turns 21, her brother, Cam, and her best friend Tiffany, take her out for drinks and dancing. A guy from one of Gabby's classes asks her to dance and she accepts. Cam gets jealous and pulls her off the dance floor. Gabby admits to Cam that she's been in love with him for ten years and he tells her he can't be with her, because he doesn't want to lose her or her brothers' friendship. After that, Gabby vows to get over Cam and hooks up with Brandon.
Can I just say how much I loved that Gabby hooked up with someone else. I can't tell you how many times I read a story about some girl being in love with the guy for years, but refuses to be with anyone else...even if the guy she's in love with, sleeps with anything with boobs. I loved how strong Gabby was and how she refused to wait around with Cam. The best thing Gabby did, was date Brandon and lose herself in him for awhile. If it wasn't for that, who knows how long it would have taken Cam to man up. I was so happy when Cam realized he couldn't be without Gabby and loved, loved how he beat the crap out of Brandon. Brandon totally deserved it!
I loved this book and would recommend this, to anyone whose looking for a good romance to read. Hopefully, Toshia Slade has plans to write Tiffany and Josh's book because I am dying to read their story.
I loved this book! Gabby has had a crush on her brother's best friend since she met him when she was eleven. The book takes place when she is 21, 10 years later. I know I have had a lot of crushes when I was in middle school and high school, but I've never had a crush last 10 years or even close to that. So the fact that Gabby has had a crush for ten years, means she is really into this guy. It isn't Gabby that is holding back, it's Cam. Cam is afraid of ruining his friendships between Gabby and Gabby's brother, Josh.
"If you won't do anything about your feelings or give us a try and be with me, then you need to stay out of my love life. No dragging me away when you don't like it."
After ten years having this crush Gabby has finally decided to try to have a relationship with someone else even though she is still hopelessly in love with Cam. When Cam sees her with another guy he freaks out. He won't take the risk to be with her, so Gabby lets him know that because of that he gets no say in her love life.
Throughout the beginning of the book I really just wanted to slap some sense into Cam. He obviously wanted to be with her, he just didn't want to mess up their friendship, but in the process he did anyway. Through all the mistakes he made, he realizes that he does want to be with Gabby, and it is worth it. But is he too late?
I loved the way the book ended. I can't wait until Josh and Tiffany get a book. I want to know what's up with the two of them! This was a great debut novel. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Very rarely do I sit down two minutes after I finish a book to write a review. Most of the time I take a while to sort what I want to say. This book demanded that I not wait.
Gabby has had a crush on Cam since her 11th birthday, the day she first met him. He is her brother’s best friend and business partner. 10 years later and she is still crushing on him hard!
Cam is conflicted on his feelings for Gabby. He has noticed her as more than his “best friends little sister” for more than five years, but has never acted on it. He does not want to ruin his friendship with either of them.
The emotion in this book is the first thing that I noticed. You really relate to how the characters are feeling right off the bat. I am not usually a fan of more than one POV, but Toshia did a great job and balanced everything out well. The way Gabby and Cam feel about each other makes you want to climb into the story and shake the ever loving crap out of them and ask them “what the hell are you doing?”
The sexy scenes are HOT.
6 freakin stars! Oh, I can only give 5 you say? Booo to you. ~ Devlynn, 5 stars
Gabby has had a crush on Cam since he showed up at her house on her 11th birthday with her brother. The decade since that first meeting, the fixation for him has not lessened but has changed into a sexually charged lust. He is gorgeous at over 6’3’’, with black hair and blue eyes and spending time with him and her brother is bittersweet. It is hard being near someone your body craves, like the air you breathe. To then watch him leave the bar with another woman is an agonizing end to every evening they are all together. But no more, she has to get over this obsession or be miserable for the rest of her life. Cam has known for a while that Gabby has had a crush on him. As much as he would like to spend time with the beautiful brown haired, green eyed girl, he just doesn’t want to risk his relationship with Gabby or his best friend and her brother, Josh. If it ended badly, he wouldn’t survive without them in his life. So why is he clenching his fists when he sees a guy flirting and dancing with Gabby on the dance floor? Isn’t this what he wanted friendship only with no possibility of a relationship and all that comes with it? The anger that consumes him when he sees another man with his hands on her confuses him. What has he done by pushing her away, into the arms of someone else? But more importantly, how the heck does he fix it? Good story, with character descriptions that draw you into their world. I love HEA and this author does not disappoint there. 4 stars
Wow! What an amazing debut! I couldn’t put this book down and I LOVED it!! In Ten Year Crush we are introduced to Gabby, a smart, fun girl who has been in love with Cam, her brother’s best friend for the last ten years. She has kept her feelings hidden for the last ten years (or at least she thought she did) except from her best friend Tiffany. She is close to her older brother Josh and the group of 4, Gabby, Josh, Tiffany, and Cam, would hang out often. One night while Gabby is dancing with another dude, Cam flips out. He has also had feelings for Gabby, but kept them hidden for fear of losing both Gabby and Josh’s friendship. We then get to see them finally get together, which results in some STEAMY, HAWT scenes!! “Bend over the arm of the couch. I want to see that sexy ass while I fuck you.”
Everybody needs a Cam in their life; a man who treats you right, loves you for you, is romantic, and a sexy cowboy!! “I love you so much, Thumper. I realize that now. There will never be another girl for me. Just you.”
Ten Year Crush has it all: sweet romance, true love, laughter, friendship, and sexy times. And there better be another book with Tiff and Josh’s story (5 stars)
Ten Year Crush is an adorable quick read. Gabby aka Thumper and Cam have been friends for ten years, Cam is her brothers best friend. Gabby fell in love with Cam early on, she's been in love with him for years but never done anything about it, certain she's not good enough, that he only sees her as a sister. Cam knows Gabby is in love with him, he feels something for her as well but has kept his distance, afterall she's his best friend's kid sister and he's no good for her. On her 21st birthday Gabby comes clean with Cam and is shot down, she decides it's time to try to move on, she's been in love for too long with someone who will never love her the same way. Now it's Cam's turn to suffer, seeing Gabby with someone else is too much for him, brings out all his feelings and his protective streak. At this point the back and forth begins, both of them trying to understand their feelings for each other and how they will handle them, now that Gabby has a boyfriend she's confused, she's not in love with her boyfriend but how can she know this is for real an not just jealousy, is Cam really ready to be with her? Ten Year Crush was an enjoyable read, I read it in one sitting. The characters are real, you can relate to their struggles.
I adored this book! It had the perfect amount of angst, confusion, tension, and indecisions when it came to being in love with someone you have been crushing on for years. Gabby’s older brother, Josh is best friends with Cam. The first time Gabby meets Cam is a day that she will never forget. As they all grow up together the feelings she has for him continues to grow more over time. The nearness of someone who has captured her heart was a struggle that became more inevitable when one night the truth all comes out.
Cam was such a sweetheart in this story once he knew what he wanted and needed to do but getting to a place he wanted to be at was not easy. He is a typical guy after all.
Falling in love with someone so close but yet so far away is never easy and Gabby and Cam’s story will clearly show that. The author had such a realistic feel when I was reading that I felt like the characters were close friends of mine. An awesome must read debut novel for Toshia Slade and here is hoping for a second book in the series. Who wants to know more about Josh and Tiff? If its any indication on what we got a glimpse of them in this book I definitely would love to know more about their story. ;)
OMG!!! I loved this book! I loved it so much so that I don't know where to start!! I really enjoyed the story line and especially the main characters, Gabby and Cam. To me, they felt like the down home, All-American characters that I know or would expect to find in a southern based story. I especially loved getting the story from both point of views it really added to me getting to know (and love) the characters as the story progressed. The secondary characters were pretty awesome too! Tiff had me literally laughing out loud and Josh reminded me of my own brother! I had the pleasure of reading the book twice and found myself completely absorbed both times. I still felt that rush of excitement, and elation when things were going well and worried and scared and even my heart hurting when things weren't going so well. Oh my gosh and the end (don't worry no spoilers) but I loved it so much so that I was envious! I can't wait to read more!! If you like the sweet, down home love story you should definitely pick this book up!!
Could you imagine being in love with someone hoping and dreaming that one day he will love you back. Ten Year Crush is a modern day fairy tale, Gabrielle Murphy has been in love with her brothers best friend Camron Taylor since she was 11 years old and for ten years Camron is everything she wants. Toshia Slade has write a wonderful story that makes you believe in fairy tales, make you believe that everyone can have a Prince Charming, a knight in shining armour.
Thing can go horribly wrong when you reveal how you truly feel but fear stops all you wish for coming true.
When Gabrielle tells Camron how she feels he fears that if they are together what friendship they have will die if the relationship doesn't work.
They both try to forget one another but true love and soulmates are meant to be together.
I loved this book and the journey I travelled though it, you feel the pain and the happiness for both Camron and Gabrielle. Thank you Toshia Slade for making me believe and you truly have written a 5 star book
This is the first book I have read by Toshia Slade, and I can honestly say I loved it. I cant wait to read more. It had every ingredient in that we love to read about - secret love, angst, pain.
Camron Taylor is Josh Murphy's best friend. They have been best friends forever. Gabby is Joshs sister. After Cam comes to gabby's rescue at her 13th birthday party it begins the start of a ten year crush.
Is it on both sides though?
I liked the way this book was written it held my attention all the way through. Constantly thinking will they, wont they. I loved the interaction between Gabby and Cam through out the years. This is a sweet, easy story to read. I loved Cam, ladies he is a hottie.
If you are looking for something to read, I really suggest this one. Its amazing. The character's and plot flows perfectly together. There isn't one part of it that I struggled with.
