Randall Family #1

Like a Curse

Rate this book
Logan Randall must marry to prevent a pack war and secure an alliance for his pack. His fiancée is everything Logan wants in a wife, but the problem is, she's not the one who makes his blood burn.

Now that she's a werewolf and a freak, Freya has enough problems as it is. Attraction to an engaged man is the last thing she needs on top of that, no matter how handsome he is. Logan drives her crazy. He's bossy and possessive, even though he has no right to be. She hates him and hates what he does to her. He makes her weak for him and needy, and she makes him want something he shouldn't want.

It's wrong and reckless. They know they shouldn't. They know they can't.

This book contains explicit sexual content and is intended for adult audiences only. #1 in the Randall Family series, but it is a complete, stand-alone story.

Logan is marrying to form an alliance to help his pack, Vanessa his fiancé is everything he could want, stunningly beautiful and understanding about his commitment to his pack, so it doesn't matter that he doesn't love her it's more of a business transaction anyway and everything would be running smoothly if it wasn't for Freya the newly turned white wolf, the attraction he feels for her is annoying but he can't ignore it, as for Freya, she feels it too but it's hard to avoid him.
I had several issues with is book one was the fact that Logan was engaged to Vanessa and while I liked the fact that she's not painted as an evil bitch which seems to be the case all too often in books like this and I know we don't really know her or like her but I still wasn't happy about Logan cheating on her, he might say they're not exclusive but I'm sorry that didn't work for me.
Another problem was Freya I struggled to like her, I assumed that ultimately we'd be given a valid reason for her change and everyone would be wrong about her being spoilt and just deciding to become a wolf would it would appear not, she is spoilt and again she knows Logan is to be married and I know this is about love so powerful they can't fight it but I really didn't want to feel sorry for Vanessa but I came close. For this to work for me Freya had to be nicer, I needed a reason for a change, Logan needed to be less of an a** I didn't like him a lot of the time either, plus and this isn't usually a big thing for me but it needs editing, it's disconcerting when the wrong persons name is used,
Example: 'Flushing, Freya glanced at her son.'
Don't worry I'm not spoiling the book it should be Jane not Freya.
Normally I wouldn't continue on with this series but I have to admit that I'm intrigued by Sandra and Hunter so there's a very good chance I'll read the next book.

I really enjoyed this book and quite frankly, I didn't see it coming.

To dive in a book, I usually need to instantly connect with the main characters and love them or at least understand them. Well, I had a hard time with Freya and Logan.

Freya is impulsive, stubborn and behave like a spoiled brat. I usually love strongheaded heroine but Freya appeared rather immature. She asked to be turned for childish reasons. Now she regrets being a shifter and is conscious of some unwanted side effects of her predicament.
She always was "on the outside" with no great social skills and she still feels like an outsider.
She acts like a petulant child with Logan, always goading him. She resents his pull on her, the way she is affected by him.

Logan seemed a little bit too serious for my taste. On one hand, he wants to redeem himself for his past mistake and place the pack's interest before his will. But on the other hand he can act like a selfish prick, always wanting Freya while engaged to another woman. He treats her like a child and is very possessive. If he can't have her no one will. He acts, pun intended, like a dog in heat.

So not promising beginning but ...their attraction is so heavy it's overwhelming. It was fascinating to witness their battle to fight their need and succumb so feverishly. I new Logan didn't like Vanessa and their relatiosnhip was an open one but it still felt like betrayal to me. And yet I could not stop reading about their steamy hot encounters. It was like a morbid fascination when you can't stop witnessing people running to their impending doom. Each time they try to convince themselves it's "just sex" and they'll be able to stop it but they're like drugs to each other. "She would pull away in a moment. She would".

So it kept me rooted to my chair and I had to read it in one sitting.

Unsolved mystery: I'm still wondering who or what Hunter Lampard is To be continued in book 2.

I was given this book for an honest review and I am glad I did. After reading the book I looked up the author for more of her books and I was quite shocked to see this was her first book. Wow nice start.

In the beginning I had a hard time getting into immature Freya. Her wanting to be turned because it was cool drove me crazy. I like the fact that she did mature as the story grew. I really appreciate her ability to stick to her promise to herself when the wedding between Logan and Vanessa approached.

Logan I got right away. He's sense of responsibility to his clan and also his needs to make amends for something he did in the past that caused loss to his clan shows a strength of character. I like the way the author kept cranking up the sexual tension between the two with Logan's wedding quickly approaching. You really need to read this for the very interesting twist to the ending,

Now I really need to know what is going on between Logan's twin sister Sandra and Hunter but it looks like I need to wait till she writes it...

I really enjoyed this book, a brilliantly easy read that left me wanting more...

While I do love the “alpha male” Logan seemed a little too serious, yes he wanted to do right for the pack and make up for past mistakes, but he came across a little rigid. His relationship with Freya seemed more like that of a parent than a lover, But then Freya did behave like brat, always inciting a reaction. It was due to this interaction between the main characters that I couldn’t put the book down. I was constantly waiting to see if they would or wouldn't give in to their attraction each acting like a drug addict, the other, their drug of choice, while waiting for the shoe to drop and there attraction to each other being discovered. Thank god for loving if not annoying siblings, who although tried to encourage Logan to do the right thing for the pack, but also wanting him to be happy.... The book was easy to read and left me with that “feel good” feeling you get when you finish a book and it ends not how you expected it too, yet still leaving you wanting more....Looking forward to the next book in this series...

I struggled between a 1 and a 2 star rating - I could not stand the heroine in this book - she was sooooooo immature. She was 19 and in college but acted more like she should of been 15 in high school. The Hero is suppose to get married to another chic, but cant keep his hands off the heroine. They had a secret affair going on. Which irritated me. "I am going to have sex with you but sorry I am marrying someone else.." That was most of the book, obviously until the end.

Some of the "wording" the author chose to use was kinda immature - "He shot his load inside her" <-- wtf was that?? I about lost it.

I received this book for an honest review. it's been a while since I've read a werewolf saga and I'm not sure why. I enjoyed this book from the beginning. The characters were introduced smoothly and I wanted to learn more. Character development is key to a good story and this author nailed it. I was a little disappointed in how Logan's story came to an end as it seemed a little rushed but I liked it overall and can't wait to read more about this clan.

I find it very exhilarating to be able to read the first book in a series even more so from a author I have not read before. Than also is the double pleasure it is a genre I find myself reading quite often because it takes you to worlds with out paying a arm and a leg for a ticket. In this novel you are introduced to twins that are also like no other in their pack. As they grow more and more who will be the dominant one will come to a head. I say never marry out of obligation because it is not the happiest of roads and sometimes things will happen to keep you from making that wrong turn. Logan and Sandra growing up hearing the different versions of the original pack with how the legends grew will also come face to face with more than the legends come to life in their lives. Evil also seems to have to rear its ugly head in these novels with this being no exception. Factions at work to bring their own agenda to forefront will be thwarted by one named Freya. Not knowing her choice would lead to such as she soon learns is and will be part of her life always must now learn to live with it. Also being a symbol also of a part of the legend love also will have its way when all this is said and done. Once you get a taste of love that is true wonder why they think they can wish it away or walk away from it for that matter even if it is for duty. Becoming the alpha by one vote also leads him down a path he did not dwell on too often because he did not think it would be his. Loved how the author weaves together this story that will have you also caught up until you too know who will be the victor. Your heart will go pitter patter when he thinks that them being together will be ok and he will be able to walk away with said duty. Ah greed and power can be such ugly companions. A perfect picture of that is portrayed in this. Experience the heat that happens between Logan and Freya and know too why love must be the victor. A sacrifice by a loved one is what will save the day for these two but the path still will be a little bit farther to go before the final meet. So would read more from this author. Received a arc for a honest review (Paranormal, Fantasy, Dystopia and Romance Readers, Writers and Reviewers)

I really wanted to like this book. Waring werewolf clans, alpha leaders, political alliances, a wider world of supernatural beings including vampires, what is there not to like? The whole white and black wolf background story line could've been made much more of. More of the clan members could've been introduced instead of being almost cardboard silhouettes in the background. It felt like far too much of the book was taken up with repetitive sex scenes along the line of "I'm engaged, I can't keep my hands off you, but this will be the last time honestly." I kept wishing it was the last time. It felt like padding rather than detail moving the plot forward. Sandra's character needed a lot more fleshing out as did the wider family dynamic. The father is only mentioned once in passing, so he joined the rest of the card board cut outs for the reader. The general world created has a lot of promise, but based on how bogged down in repetitive sex this book was, I will give the rest of the series a miss.

Free download. This was an interesting take on werewolf lore. Logan is a black wolf who doesn't want anything apart from his pack to be prosperous but other packs are trying to take over any way they can, so he arranged a marriage to help align his pack, unfortunately he didn't plan on Freya, a newly turned wolf who pushes all his buttons and they can't help each other's reaction to the other, there's a thin line between love and hate, but with Logans upcoming nuptials how will they handle the future. I enjoyed Logan and Freya's story, it was different to the usual supernatural stories, I liked that it was mostly about them as a couple but you also got more story regarding the pack. Some grammatical errors but nothing huge, nice characters and plot, good sex scenes, and nice ending, can be read as a standalone even though it's a series. Would recommend.

I received this book from the author and the Paranormal, Fantasy, Dystopia and Romance Writers, Writers and Reviewers in exchange for a honest review.

This was an ok book for me. I just could not get to like the heroine. She was a spoiled brat who decided one day she wanted to be a werewolf. She is now changed and is not pleased with some of the aftereffects of that. There was no build-up in the hero and heroine's romance. There is always an attraction between them so I wonder why the hero did not pursue another way to build an alliance with other packs. I did not like them fooling around behind his fiancée back even through she was not a nice person. There is an HEA at the end, but it seemed rushed.

I really ended up with mixed feelings regarding this book. I liked it, but was frustrated by it. I guess I don't believe in doing what is right for everyone else, if it is so wrong for you. Logan was engaged to marry Vanessa, even though he didn't love her. He loved Freya, even though they couldn't be together. I can only imagine the heartache. The black wolf aspect of the story and the legend of the white wolf was interesting. I did find the struggle of the alpha in the Randall pack added to the story. The twist with Sandra at the end leads me to want to read the sequel, as well as what was going on in New York...

I was given this book to write a review.
I did like this book as I do most werewolf books.
l found the characters likeable, Freya was immature at first but she is young and Logan was very serious most of the time but being alpha i suppose he has to.
Im looking forward to the next book as I am sure it will cover Sandra & Hunter - l don't trust him as far as I could throw him.
I thought the book was well written and the author did a great job considering it was her first book.
I felt the book was original and fresh, it left many avenues for the author to follow in the series.
I would recommend for paranormal lovers!

I found it hard to get past Freya's age and maturity level. The whole story felt rushed and uneasy in parts for it to have been fully enjoyable. Loved the lore of werewolves but that was pretty much the only aspect I found worth it.

Hasty relationship which did not even develop from any solid point except her attraction to his black wolf and his role as alpha. Also, many of the characters rubbed me the wrong way. For instance the challenge between brother and sister and the mother willing to sacrifice her son's happiness for the sake of the pack.

It was a decent read for me. Contemplating reading the next book though already iffy about Hunter.

Not sure where to begin but let's just saw wow

This was the first book that I have read by Keira Levett, and it will most definitely not be the last!

Her writing was clever and well thought out with interesting character development and dialogue. There were a few minor errors however they were far from impending upon the results of the writing. She pulls you in and the book becomes so enticing you won't want to sit it down until you realize you hit the last page and are still left wanting more but also satisfied with all that you've read.

I will be getting the next book and likely many more from her. Yes, I recommend this book!

what is it that attracted me to this book? Oh it was probably the fact that it is a Fantasy story.... maybe it could be it is Paranormal with werewolves.... it could be that it is a romance. The best thing was putting all those together and how it read. The words flow over you like silk across your skin, you did know this book is part of a series right? Well even with it being a part of a Series it can be read as a stand alone story.

I received a copy of this story in exchange for a honest review. This story was about a strong alpha male's struggle with his lust/love of a turned werewolf and his desire to do the right thing for his pack. At the end of the story the decision is taken out of his hands. This story was a good start to a new series.

Explanations were a little rushed so I had to read some sections more than once to make sure I understood the lycan lore for this series. Like other reviewers I found that the heroine was immature. It kept my attention, so for a quick read, i thought it was okay.

I really liked the story, but I felt like something was missing. I just can't explain what though. I would have liked a little more oomph in the sex area, it still wasn't bad. I'll read the next one and see...

Good story

I really liked this book. The story was great right from the start. A bit of drama and some angst. Some great love scenes and a surprise ending. Great book and was free on Amazon.

3.5 stars. Until the ending I really enjoyed this story (free download from Amazon) but the ending seemed a bit hurried and the "problems" too easily solved so I take away half star. I may continue reading the series, though.
