Cole Manning has had several years to plan his revenge on Morgan O’Riley and Seth Reed for putting him in prison after he brutally attacked them. Now he is out and it’s time to put the plan into action. Seth, an ex-Marine has built a post-military career in the security business but his one regret was letting his guilt and fear destroy his relationship with his first love. He knows he is playing right into Cole’s hands when he receives a cryptic message threatening Morgan, but it doesn't stop him from rushing from Portland to Missoula in order to whisk her away to what he thinks will be a safe location while he and his associates work to eliminate the threat. But Cole is a step ahead of them. Morgan has spent many years trying to put her past behind her but in a matter of hours that fragile world is turned upside down by the return of two men; the one she loved but who pushed her away without an explanation, and the one who is obsessed with her fear. Now Seth and Morgan are thrown together and find they cannot deny the chemistry that still exists but the emotional scars run deep. Will they be able to survive the wreckage of their past along with the current threat to their lives? Or will Cole win and destroy them both?
Obsessed With Fear is the first book in a series and as such has to do the heavy lifting of introducing main characters and setting the stage on which they will act. It does an excellent job of both which makes this reader hungry for the next book in the series to be released.
The book traces the lives of two compelling characters through their teen years and into young adulthood. There is lot of action, romance, and yes steamy passages along with mystery and suspense. The resulting cocktail is a mystery suspense thriller that drives the page turning to an ever increasing rate toward the conclusion. The characters are extremely well portrayed and it is easy to imagine this as a television series as even the minor players are interesting. Great contemporary settings complete a well written book.
