Righteous and Wicked #1

Righteous Damnation

Rate this book
I was never the perfect daughter—the disgrace of my aristocratic Catholic family.

To save themselves from shame, my parents send me to Augustine Diocesan Academy, an elite Holy School buried deep in the Scottish countryside.

The price of redemption? I must be engaged by graduation or I'll lose my inheritance.

My plan is seduce Silas Peregrine-Ashford IV, the golden boy of Augustine. He’s everything my parents want—charming, wealthy, devout, and destined for a dukedom. I’ll secure my trust fund, end the engagement, and disappear.

But Augustine is not what it seems.

Behind its sacred halls lurk dark secrets, demented psychological games, and sins masked as salvation. The rich rule with wicked appetites, and salvation comes at a price—one paid in blood.

Silas’ obsessive devotion should be my escape, yet it threatens to consume me. And then there’s Lucian—a walking blasphemy, a man steeped in corruption. He’s everything I was raised to fear… yet I can’t stay away.

Now, trapped in a deadly game of love, power, and sacrifice, I must choose between the two forces pulling me under.

Loyalty or betrayal.
Love or ruin.
Heaven or Hell.

God forgive me.

I’d like to start by saying thank you for this ARC copy ☺️

I downloaded this book the second I got the ARC email, and started reading straight away. When I tell you I couldn’t put it down — the only thing that got me to was food. I was hoping to read it on a 7hour flight, but it didn’t last that long 🤓

I loved how fragile Eden was, how easily manipulated she was. I loved how her BPD was written, and I severely loved the author definitions and explanations at the beginning.

It always baffles me in books when the MMC barely knows the FMC but decides he loves her - in this case, with Silas it makes perfect sense. His warped sense of love and understanding and romance fully fits with the vibe he has. I am still wary of Lucien’s interest, but I do like him a lot and I’m rooting for him.

The writing is solid, and I think complements the fact the main character is a sheltered 18 year old. I really like the internal thought processes that are shared, where she’s clinging to her faith and religion to make sense of what’s happening, even when it still doesn’t make sense.

The ended crept up on me and I’m devastated it’s over. And extremely excited for book 2.. even though book 1 isn’t officially out yet 🫠

Thank you again

ARC Review. All opinions are my own.

This is incredible, frankly. I am not a regular reader of dark romance, but Raven's dedication drew me in, and I'm so glad I decided to give this a shot.

I could not put this down- and when I had to, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The themes of religion, power, and abuse are extremely well-executed and that is exactly what makes this work for me. Raven introduces a character who is blinded by her faith, but also begins to experience doubt, and as someone with religious trauma I felt deeply seen.
The writing is engaging, the characters are fascinating (I hate Silas. I also loved reading his POV), and the worldbuilding is excellent.

PLEASE pay attention to the trigger warnings before diving into this, because there are a *lot* of triggering moments in this. Heavy on the TW for anyone with religious trauma and/or domestic violence history.

Cannot wait for the sequel.

PLEASE CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THIS BOOK!!!

Banished to Augustine Diocesan Academy, I have one rule: get engaged by graduation or lose my inheritance. My plan is simple - seduce Silas, the school's golden heir, get the ring, then vanish. But Augustine isn't as holy as I thought - it's a sanctuary for sins wrapped in ritual, where salvation costs blood. Now I'm caught between Silas' obsessive devotion and Lucian, a sinner that's everything I was taught to fear. God forgive me.

Character thoughts:
Eden - Eden was a highly relatable character to me. I thought she was stronger than she gave herself credit for, and I can't wait for her to realise that she deserves so much more than she's gotten in life so far. I think it's so sad that she has been taught to fear her bisexuality due to religion, but her character growth and development has started and she's beginning to realise that religion is not everything it seems, certainly at Augustine.
Silas - I started off loving Silas. I liked his obsessiveness, and I was willing to overlook any red flags. However, as the story went on and his behaviour escalated, it became harder and harder to excuse this pitiful boy. His treatment of Eden highlights domestic abuse excellently, and how easy it is to look the other way and make excuses for their behaviour.
Lucian - Lucian grew on me throughout the novel. While his description sounded sexy, I wasn't too sure in the role he would play. I grew to love him and his concern for Eden was touching, and I felt by the end,

Plot thoughts:
I felt like this was an excellent show of the effect of borderline personality disorder. It highlights that it's not always loud outbursts of emotion, but internal conflicts of feeling simultaneously too much and not enough. This is not a well-spoken about disorder but one that deserves more recognition. I felt like it was dealt with in a superb manner.
As stated above, this book deals with domestic violence. It highlights the escalation in violence, and how possessiveness is almost seen as a positive, when actually it should be causing alarm bells to ring. Silas is a perfect example of someone who is able to get away with this behaviour, and how Eden continues to forgive him, even after he does some despicable things to her. There are some scenes from Silas' perspective that give pause for thought on how consensual the acts actually were (specifically that scene in the North Tower).
I felt that the pacing of the novel was appropriate and good-paced. Plenty happened in this novel and it was a real page-turner. Additionally, that cliff-hanger has me needing the next book like right now!
As my first ARC, I was highly impressed, and felt that this book was amazing, hence the 5 stars.

Author thoughts:
I have grown to know Raven throughout the past week and a bit. I think Raven is a brilliant author, and an even more brilliant person. She's kind and funny. She has the sweetest accent, and she's always made time to talk to me. I have grown closer to her, and relate to her so much. We have a lot in common, and I feel that I have the beginnings of a strong friendship with her!

This book was one of my most anticipated reads this year and was so excited to be approved for this arc. I still can’t believe I got accepted!

If you haven’t read anything by Raven Rage you definitely need to check them out.

Righteous Damnation truly lived up to the hype. The plot was thrilling, with a dark academia setting. The suspense builds beautifully, with secrets, power struggles, and moral dilemmas at every turn. The psychological tension kept me hooked and the romance was intense. This was a love triangle like no other!

I also really appreciated how the author portrayed BPD in a positive and realistic way. She also addressed classism and a range of other mental health issues that many people face today.

The pacing slowed a bit at times, but overall this was an addictive, dark atmospheric read that I couldn’t put down. This book is a dark romance and it does have a TW list so please check that when the book is available on KU, which will be April 1st!

Righteous Damnation by Raven Rage
A Dark, Addictive, and Unforgettable Read

I received this ARC from my fellow mutual Raven and I couldn’t be more proud ❤️‍🔥

Righteous Damnation isn’t just a book, its a damn experience. One that will grip you, unsettle you, and leave you desperate for more. Raven Rage masterfully crafts a story that is equal parts haunting and intoxicating, weaving together themes of power, religion, and psychological warfare in a way that is impossible to ignore.

At the heart of it all is Eden, a girl burdened by expectation, desperate for love, and trapped in a world where faith and fear walk hand in hand. Her struggle with BPD is raw and unfiltered, making her one of the most complex heroines I’ve read in a long time. Then there’s Silas, the golden boy, the perfect image of devotion (not really)

Behind closed doors, he is anything but. A master manipulator with a chilling grip on Eden’s reality, his presence is suffocating in the best (and worst) way.

And then… there’s Lucian. The loner. The sinner. The man who sees beyond the gilded cage Eden is trapped in. He’s a mystery and yet, his role in her salvation is unclear (I assume we will find out later) But one thing is for sure…
Silas does not like his presence one bit.

This book is heavy, dark, and drenched in tension. The themes of religious trauma, abuse, and mental illness are handled with a brutal honesty that makes this story all the more impactful. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you crave a dark romance that will make you fee, this one is for you.

The cliffhanger ending shook me. Leaving me wanting to read more! Need book two immediately!!! If you’re looking for a story that will consume you, break you, and leave you desperate for more, Righteous Damnation is it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5.

This book was REAL!!! First and foremost this is not the dark romance I am used to reading but I was not upset AT ALL. I could not put it down! The Catholic private school deep in Scotland should be a totally strait laced private school. OOOOOOO how wrong. I think we all know by now that the darkest things lurk just under the surface of those pretty shiny strait laced things.

Be ready for the extreme dark romance. This was no joke when it came to the love interests and religion. I think I could sit and delve into each over arching theme in the book to the max BUT i will leave it here:

Religion: Being raised Catholic doesn’t allow a girl many avenues for expressing herself. Whether it be through clothes, hair, reading, hobbies, or just plain ole living. You are taught to be pliant, non-abrasive, respect those who are your betters. Eden accepts all of that and in whole it seems to help her but when she’s given a different way to see things the struggle is real. The duality of a benevolent God and a malevolent God was an interesting twist being faced by those attending the Academy.

Romance: When one is deprived of touch the first to willingly and continuously give it becomes your world. This point is made immediately. Watching the growth and the realization that there is a difference between all-consuming, obsessively controlling love and intense mutually beneficial love was moving. Sure, no relationship is the same BUT that is something that should never be mentioned when your mental health and physical health are at risk. That is felt throughout the book.
~~~The R rated scenes weren’t what I thought they were going to be…
Mental Health: Eden faces so many highs and lows right off the bat. The realism felt by the writing was devastating. I had to put the book down a few times to settle myself. The accuracy of how situations were felt was a HUGE part of what made me love this book. This is a big facet to how her faith ruled her life and how she looked at making decisions. It also added to the depth of the romance but also the friendships Eden cultivates. I don’t think I have read a book which writes so honestly about mental health.
In all I cannot WAIT for the second book and to see how everything grows!!!!!
This (literal pitch-black) dark academia novel may have been just a bit too dark for me. I did read the trigger warnings though, so while I knew what I was getting into, it triggered me in many ways, especially as someone who is a domestic violence survivor.
I will say, Raven did extraordinary things with accurately depicting the PTSD that surrounded Eden from distressing situations within the book. The constant second guessing herself aka gaslighting and the overwhelming “love bombing” that accompanies this type of toxic relationship, was all too real. Silas, the MMC, was just too dangerous and out of control - he made me anxious reading his chapters.
I was so happy when Lucian was introduced and they began getting closer. I am someone who loves a good underdog storyline so I am rooting for him to save her from Silas’ savagery. #teamlucian all the way! I will likely read the second book, because I want to know what happens - the cliffhanger at the end was completely unexpected.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5) stars!
Holy shit…
This is freakin wild. I was sucked in from the beginning and literally could not put this book down. This is not a romance this is toxicity to the max sprinkled with trauma.
Silas does not love Eden that’s for sure but she does not love him either. He’s in it for all Eden can give him. She’s blinded by pretty words and the fact that she just wants her mother (who I am not at all convinced is her mommy dearest) to love her.
Who Eden should be in love with is my man Lucian and I really hope that’s coming! I need book 2 more than I need air to breathe cause that cliffhanger 😭
In all seriousness check the content warnings do NOT go in blind this is not the book for that your mental health matters babes 🖤
This book sucked me in almost IMMEDIATELY. It was full of suspense, emotion, and chaos. You really get a good feel for the characters their struggles. There are characters I love, characters I can't stand and characters I need to know more about. I feel like there was a good balance of current events versus past experience/memories (reasoning as to why they're doing something specific). Raven did an amazing job building this world. I will absolutely be reading the next installment in this series and can't wait until I can do so!
Please pay attention to the trigger warnings, as this book gets kind of dark during some scenes. It's crucial to the story, though.
I was given an ARC of this book and I'm so glad I was given a chance to read it. I loved it so much. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Righteous and Wicked book 1
Eden has never been appreciated in her family, even if she’s devotion incarnate. Her parents send her to a Christian academy so she can excels and find the perfect husband; Silas, none other than a Duke’s son set on inheriting the title. Alas for Eden, Silas isn’t what he appears to be and soon, she’s entangled in a dangerous situation.
Sweet Eden, doing everything she can to have her family’s validation and Silas’s affection, yet all she gets is deceit and harm. The battered woman syndrome is intense and infuriating to witness. The way she has faith and is blinded by it is also infuriating, yet when she starts to have doubts, Silas always make sure to appease her, resulting in a continuous cycle that I want to see destroyed. I hope Lucian will be able to do something. That cliffhanger is brutal. I wonder what book 2 has in store for us.
Thanks to Raven Rage for the arc!
First of all, being gifted an ARC to read before the publishing date will never get old to me! So thank you again Raven for the opportunity to read this amazing work of yours!! My goodness.. that cliffhanger!
I truly can relate to a lot of the themes and feelings that you’ve chosen to highlight in this book. More specifically, I really see parts of myself in Eden in ways that really hit deep. Having grown up catholic, those parts in particular hit home. Being uncertain of what is right vs wrong and to put your faith in a higher power as she has chosen to do. And then the dynamic between her and Silas…WOW! The Spirit and the power exchange scenes in the catacombes is absolutely riveting and mind blowing the symbolism and amazing visual representations and imagery is just incredible! It truly feels immersive in those scenes to me.
I cannot wait for the next one!! I’ll be biting my fingernails in anticipation!
This is my third ARC read for the year, so I want to thank the author for allowing me the opportunity. That being said, the FMC, Eden, is a very fragile character. Her BPD is well represented throughout the story, complete with manic highs & lows. The MMC, Silas, is your typical narcissistic sociopath who has a penchant for gaslighting poor Eden. This may be a hard read for anyone who has, or knows someone who has, suffered Battered Woman Syndrome. The amount of physical abuse Eden takes is astounding, yet she keeps coming back. Then there’s Lucian, who we only see glimpses of, who he really is, & how he figures into Eden’s salvation. I definitely needed more of his story to really like this particular read more. And of course the ending definitely is a cliffhanger. I am patiently waiting for the conclusion of this story to come out because I need to know what happens with Eden & Lucian, & hope that Silas gets his comeuppance.
ARC Review 3/22/25
3/5 Stars
First off, I am so thankful to have gotten an early copy to review! Raven’s writing is compelling and descriptive. Even when I wasn’t vibing with the story, I was still pulled in and I will definitely look out for the sequel to complete Eden’s story.
This is definitely a story to take the trigger warnings seriously for. Was there a single consensual sexual encounter in this story?
Eden finds ways to be loveable even when I wanted to scream at her naivety. Lucian is mysterious but definitely the good guy in this story. Silas can jump off a bridge.
I felt that the pacing was very off throughout the whole story. Things that felt that they should’ve taken weeks or months were happening in hours? Days? It took me out of the story more than once.
I enjoyed it enough. I would recommend it, but it’s not for everyone.
The gothic setting of this book is what pulled me into it first and I must say this book delivers exactly what it promises with a morally black mmc ,a naive innocent fmc and our second male lead who’s a full package of mysterious,charming & caring. I could relate to the character of Eden on so many different levels how most of her decisions were taken just on the basis of being a good daughter that her parents wanted her to be . Now let’s talk about Silas Peregrine Ashford IV who’s our mmc at least for this book since the second instalment of this series is on the way I don’t want to consider him as the one who gets the girl in the end coz he doesn’t deserve her in any ways I’m sure he has a backstory and reasons for why he acts like a douchebag but I’m 100% team Lucian even though he didn’t get more scenes in this book I’m sure his character will shine the most in the next one the way he cared for Eden and how mad he was at Silas for hurting her I’m totally head over heels for Lucian and the way this book ends in a cliffhanger has me anticipating for the next book there are so many questions in my head right now and I can’t wait to find answers in the next book. I consider myself lucky since I got an ARC for this book and it was totally worth the time I spent reading it
What in the world?! 4.5 star read
Holy smokes what in the world did I just read? This story started at one way, and then went totally in another direction. I could not get enough. I finished the book in less than a day. I gobbled it up like nobody’s business! I could not believe the twists and turns a story took there were so much action going on that there was never a dull moment.
I am having trouble visualizing our hero and our heroine. I even went to Instagram to see if I can find some people’s storyboard to see if they had a better idea than I did. Silas was definitely dark haired and tall, but what color were his eyes? Was he super tall and skinny like a track or basketball player? And then there was Eden… I almost thought she was possibly black! We kept hearing about her brown skin and red curly kinky hair. Very likely that she could’ve very well. Been Brown except that her mom has blue eyes. So very confused.
This book took us on a wild ride and it ended on the cliffhanger of all cliffs! I don’t even have time to brute over the review on the story, I have to get over there right away to find out what happened next.
All in all, I am always enthralled whenever Raven Rage comes out with a new book. She knows how to weave the story like no other and draw us into her darkness. Cannot wait to find out what happens next!!
HOLY. CRAP.
Let me just start out by saying that I’m coming to this review right after finishing the book and I literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor because of the cliffhanger of an ending!!! Talk about not seeing that coming. 🥵
I loved everything about this book and it made me feel some deep emotions that I wasn’t prepared for. My heart ached for the turmoil that Eden faces because of her upbringing and how much weight is placed on her shoulders to be perfect. All she wants more than anything is to be unconditionally loved and to be accepted as she is. She will do anything to get under her mother’s good graces in order to keep her family inheritance and to finally win her love, and that includes being sent off to Augustine Diocesan Academy and into the arms of Silas—who is seemingly perfect on the outside, but he holds deep, dark secrets behind closed doors. He’s supposed to be her knight and shining armor, after all. The perfect image of a man devoted to God.
Then walks in Lucian. The drifter. The sinner. The one who doesn’t quite fit into the morals of Augustine Academy. but he’s more complex than Eden once judged. After being paired with him for a literature project, she finds herself wondering if things aren’t always what they seem…And Silas doesn’t like that… ONE BIT. #teamlucian
This story highlights the turmoil and corruption that is often hidden when it comes to religion and classism, and I think that Raven paints a heart wrenching, but truthful point between the two. It also accurately depicts the emotional cage that comes with having a personality disorder and that really spoke to me.
I fell in love with this story, and I’m so ready for book 2 of the series to be released! Definitely a must read! 🖤
I received this book as an ARC, thank you for giving me the chance to read this book!
Eden is our FMC, who is shipped off to a Catholic School in the Scottish highlands. She is from a very religious family & is expected to find a suitable match. One that matches her family’s “title” as her father is a Viscount.
Silas is one of our main characters- and as soon as he sees Eden, & learns of her family’s wealth- he sets his sights on making her his.
We also have Lucian1 who is surprising and not what Eden expected at all, nor what I expected either.
It also has such a good section about BPD.
I would definitely read the trigger warning, as your own mental health is most important.
This is a fast paced story and sucks you in from the start. Sometimes a little too fast, but it didn’t distract from the story too much for me. There were a few times I wanted to shake Eden because she is sooo nieve. She immediately fell into Silas web and ignored everything every one told her. Within days she was totally consumed- which is very rushed within a normal, non book timeline.
I would recommend it to anyone as long as the triggers are not bothersome. I would definitely take them seriously.
*ARC review*
WOAH, this book was incredible, I have been so looking forward to reading this and I was so excited to receive my ARC copy! Firstly, before you read this book, make sure you read the trigger / content warnings before diving into this book.
I LOVED this book, I have been so excited to read this and it did not disappoint, I liked all of the characters and the story had me hooked from the beginning. Even when I wasn’t actively reading the book I was constantly thinking about it! I couldn’t stop thinking about what would come next and how the characters would react / handle the situations they are in.
I thought this book was paced perfectly for the story and everything was just incredible. I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book as long as you have seen the content / trigger warnings first. The cliff hanger left my jaw on the floor and I audibly gasped at the end.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book I can’t wait for the second one in the series!!
Thank you Raven for sending me this ARC copy!
Up front, the only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because it's not romance. Not even in the dark twisted way that some of us have come to love on that unhinged end of the genre.
Silas DOES NOT love Eden. I doubt he even likes her. What he loves is what he stands to gain through Eden. Power. There was never a moment in this book that suggests they'd be friends if neither had something to gain from the other. On the flip side, Eden doesn't love him either. She's merely clinging to the attention and pretty words he weaponizes. In her mind, he will right her world even if it hurts.
Which leads me to why I like this book. Raven does an AMAZING job of making you feel throughout the entire journey. From sadness, frustration, anger, and even a little hopeful. I cannot tell you the last time I hated an MMC as much as I hated Silas or wanted to scream at Eden to stand up. I 100% understand why Eden does what she does, thinks the way she does, and believes the things she believes, BUT a FMC that does not make any steps toward reclaiming her life or defending herself will always piss me off.
I am always for the heroine saving herself but in this case, I hope Luican has a cape with skulls and wilted roses at the ready.
Beware: that cliff will make your heart drop.
Please, please, please read the triggers before reading this book! It's heavy.
Righteous Damnation was intense. My heart felt Soo much for the FMC 😭
From the abusive religious family, to the grooming of her to be the perfect wife, it was heart breaking. The villains in this story are written so well, I was actually rooting for one of them in the beginning, but what a mistake that was.
I am so glad she met two people who tried to set her straight on her love interest. But, knowing what it's like to be in an abusive relationship and having others tell you that is not ok, you still need to be the one to leave, no one can make that choice for you.
'That's the thing about the dark. You never know it's there until it has already consumed you.'
Thank goodness there will be a book two and Raven explicitly states that the FMC gets a HEA so I can't wait for it to be available! Eden deserves so much more than what she's been dealt.
If you can handle this cliff hanger ending, and tons of trauma, this book is absolutely worth the read.
OMG! This book is insane!!!
Raven, thank you to bring us this book.
*First of all check out the trigger warnings before reading this book*
A pitch black dark romance that brings us to world building in a religious dark academy style, full of suspense, blind faith, abuse, power and darkness. Sacrifice, spirits and ritual also have their way in Eden’s world.
I loved the way Eden starts to evolving, questioning her faith and her parents teachings. I also wasn’t expecting Silas to be that twisted… and his POVs are definitely insane. Being inside a twisted mind like that was horrifying….The way he sees violence as love is definitely horribly twisted and yet I couldn’t put the book down for one minute! I don’t need to say that Lucien is already on my book boyfriend list… also what was that ending?! For Christ sake the last couple chapters ripped my heart out of my chest! Amazing!!!!! I can’t wait for book two.
When I picked up my advanced review copy of Righteous Damnation, by Raven Rage, I was already expecting an intense read due to the extensive trigger warnings. My expectations were spot on! Eden is shipped off to a Catholic school to continue her education, where she is expected to become engaged to a man befitting her family's status by graduation, or else she will lose her inheritance. In no time at all, she and Silas are entangled with one another and it seems that the engagement her parents desire is within easy reach. However, Silas in not exactly the man Eden was expecting, and soon things are spiraling out of control.
Eden is an interesting character - depending on her religion to ground her, trying to overcome a neglectful and possibly abusive upbringing, and dealing with mental illness to boot. She comes off as a bit naive and easy to manipulate, especially when Silas comes into the picture - a man used to power and always getting his way, ready to do anything to secure the future he desires. Vivienne, Eden's roommate, quickly becomes a good friend, though the girls don't always see eye to eye. Lucian is a surprising character, who isn't what Eden suspects he is in the beginning. The story is fast paced, drawing you in and leaving you constantly wondering what will happen next. The cliffhanger at the end is unexpected and will leave you desperate for the next book in the best kind of way.
I would recommend this story to anyone who loves to lose themselves in an intense, emotional story, but I would warn readers to check the trigger warnings and proceed with caution. I give this book 5 stars and cannot wait to read the sequel!
Righteous Damnation follows Eden, a meek and fragile Catholic girl. She is forced to attend Augustine Diocesan Academy, an elite Holy School that is set up in Scotland. Her parents task her with one thing, she must get engaged by graduation, or she will lose all financial support and her inheritance. And while this school may be considered Holy, there are dark secrets lurking in the catacombs…
Righteous Damnation is Book One of Righteous and Wicked. It is a dark historical/religious romance, with heavy representation of BIPOC, abuse, and panic attacks. This book has quite the list of trigger warnings, to name a few, sacrifices, abuse, sexual assault and many others. Which is to be expected from Raven.
I devoured this book, I started reading it in the morning and it was done by that evening. The characters, the MMC possessiveness, the side characters. It made me want even more. This book also ends in one hell of a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read Book 2 once it is released.
I rated this book a 4 out of 5 stars, and 3 on the spice scale. I would recommend this book to those whom are dark, twisted, and love a possessive/villanous insane MMC with a more fragile FMC. This book will be available via Kindle and Paperback on April 1, 2025.
*ARC Review*
Firstly, to the author, thank you so much for the opportunity to read this before release, I really appreciate every ARC i'm offered.
Ok, so this was one of my most anticipated reads of this quarter and it didn't dissapoint!
Righteous Damnation very much lived up to my expectation and more, and the CLIFFHANGER!?
I don't want to give anything away as the experience of wanting to cry, scream, and throw my kindle against the wall was so worth the read.
I can't wait until the next book.
Please make sure that you read the triggers as it's a dark romance - look after yourselves. <3
I knew this was going to end on a cliffhanger but HOLY SH-
I was on the fence about reading this cuz the trigger list was a lot but I gave it a chance. I DEVOURED THIS BOOK.
Not gonna lie, I knew Silas was going to be toxic cuz well, this is a really dark romance. I feel like the author used that against me. I fell in love with Silas as the story progressed until the dude pulled some insane sh-t. Then he just got even more unhinged and by the end, I felt like I went through a hurricane of emotions along with Eden.
I want to hold Eden and protect her from all the bad things but alas I can't. I can't wait to see what she does in the next book. She's slowly finding herself and I hope she manages to succeed. I want her to get her happy ending because she's been through so much.
I do hope Lucian is ok though cuz he was trying his best to be a good guy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eden has felt that most of her life she is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. She's viewed as a disappointment. Her last chance comes in attendance at a prestigious academy and has to find a man befitting her status and marry him to keep her place and her inheritance. She has no idea what is to come, who really does care for her and who doesn't. Events will shake her to her core and how she perceives the world around her. I didn't want to stop reading and the cliffhanger leaves you with a brutal surprise and more question you feel you deserve to have answered!
One burning question remains...will be it Silas or Lucian?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
I had the privilege of being an ARC reader, this book is pitch black, and I strongly urge anyone with triggers to read the trigger warning list before diving in. That being said, I enjoyed the story. It sheds light on BPD in a way that felt raw and unfiltered, making Eden a deeply complex character. Her internal struggles, how easily she’s manipulated, and her attempts to rationalize everything through faith felt real and heartbreaking.
I still don’t know what Lucian’s true intentions are, but I hope he can help Eden or at the very least, I hope she can help herself. Silas, on the other hand, is completely obsessive and unhinged, making his version of love both fascinating and terrifying.
The cliffhanger completely caught me off guard and heartbroken and now I have no choice but to wait for the next book (send help!). While there were some slower sections, the story as a whole kept me hooked, and I literally finished it in one sitting.Looking forward to book two!
Full disclosure: I read this as an ARC.
Lady Eden is sent to Augustine Diocesan Academy to finish her schooling, and to come home with an engagement secured... or be disinherited. She sets her sights on Lord Silas, a future duke. She quickly falls into his dark spell, working to secure her future. Lucian, a loner who clearly is a blasphemer, draws her in. Despite Silas, she can't seem to stay away from him.
Firstly - read the trigger warnings. If anything on there doesn't work for you, do not read this book.
I couldn't put this book down. Eden suffers from BPD, but it's portrayed in a way that doesn't consume her character or paint her negatively.
Silas' obsession with Eden evolves quickly, while Lucian's steadfast support evolves slowly. I couldn't tell you who's going to get the happily ever after, and I can't wait for the next book.
If you like pitch black dark romance, this book is definitely for you.
FYI I rated this book 4.5 stars, but Goodreads doesn't have half stars.
