2.5 stars from me. The descriptions of 19th century Siam were truly detailed and it seemed like a tropical paradise indeed. The two main characters, Tod & Elly, from 2 vastly different backgrounds, fall in love and, for better or worse, are locked in a tempestuous relationship. I reckon in today's terms, it may well have been a rather toxic relationship! The tumultuous political background in Siam lent this story an exciting edge as well. All in an interesting book but for some reason I didn't like more than to rate it 2.5 stars.
A girl from Denmark visits the court of Siam with her father, a doctor. She makes friends and vows to return when she has completed her own medical training.
The descriptions of Siam - now Thailand - are lovely.
