Ella Larson is allergic to me.

I don’t blame her; we do have a history, and I can be what you could call uncooperative at times. So, it’s not a wonder she looks stressed when she comes to tell me I’ve been selected as the new face of a promotional opportunity for the Dominators.

As we talk, I find out there’s another source of her stress, she’s also allergic to wedding season, at least that is what she tells me when she finds out her friend is getting married.

I hate to see pretty girls stressed, so I offer to be her date for her friend’s wedding and to cooperate for the promotional event I’ve just been assigned to. When she looks at me wondering where the catch is, I drop the bomb. I need something from her. I need her to come with me to visit my mother and be my fake girlfriend for the weekend. A simple exchange, two friends helping one another.

Little did I know how this one little exchange would end up blowing up in both our faces and make us face a reality we both thought didn’t exist anymore.

A short sports romance perfect for a weekend reading. The Vancouver Dominators are a hockey team filled with outstanding players on the ice and very attentive lovers off the ice. This is Knox’s and Ella’s story. Having dated years ago which ended in heartbreak due to career decisions has left them both in turmoil and unable to move forward. However, when an unexpected opportunity arises for them to play a make believe couple in Las Vegas, the hidden sparks are again ignited and real truths are revealed. A spicy reading YOU don’t want to miss!

Lucas Clark and Ella Larson used to date. However, his eyes were always on the prize. Getting to the NHL and leaving little time in the end for Ella. The sad thing is, they loved each other, but they were in two different places in their lives. She loved her mom and sisters. She dreamed of one day being a part of their family. Now, she is working for the team her father owns, the Vancouver Dominators. The head PR person and Ella’s father were making a change to the Children’s Hospital Campaign.

All because Lucas got injured and would not be traveling with the team. Therefore, leaving him open to doing the campaign. They could now send both Knox Evans and Dylan Hayes along with the team to be at the away games on the dates of the filming. They requested that she meet with Lucas about the campaign. This put her in a panic because she had done all she could do to avoid him, and even Lucas knew it. He had been the only player to give her a hard time working for her father. So, when she walked down to the lunch area.

She approached the table, folder in hand, avoiding his eyes. “Well, well, if it isn’t Ella.” He winked. “What’s Guy (her dad) got you up to today? "Spying on us boys, so you can tell Daddy all the horrid things we say in the locker room?” He chuckled. She frowned. When did Lucas become such an ass? She wondered. “Look, it wasn’t my fault my father caught word of what happened in the locker room the night you grabbed my ass when I first started,” I said, staring him right in the eye.

Yeah, you read that right. The man thought she was lying when she told him about her new position with the team, and to prove it, he’d pushed her up against the locker room wall, looked her directly in the eyes, kissed her, and grabbed her ass. Not a wise move in general. But for those hard-headed males FAFO. That had been her welcome to the team, and when her father caught wind of it, he’d asked her if it had been true. She didn't feel she could stand there and deny it. The mere memory of it had made her blush when he confronted her, so she told him the truth.

Although they had dated, and they had been extremely intimate, Lucas had gotten in shit for the lack of respect he had shown Ella. He’d been lucky her father took pity on him and hadn’t suspended him, but this reaction had started this reaction every time she had to communicate with him. “Sure, whatever you say,” he murmured, digging into his food. “Lucas, despite what you might choose to believe, I never said a word. He asked me, and I didn’t lie to my father. "You know that,” I grinted, giving him an evil glare.

He told her he used to do things for her. She had never told her dad before. I would have told him you never do things to me out in the open, in his arena locker room, and in front of teammates. Plus, he didn’t listen when she said she worked there. So why would you disrespect her either way in public? Get my drift. Either way, Ella was under a lot of stress. Her friends were all at different stages of their love lives and marriages. One was on the verge of divorce after only six months and her Mr. cheated. Her next friend is dealing with infertility and the stress that is putting on their marriage, and the last friend is just launching into wedding planning.

This means she wants Ella to be her maid of honor. When Ella is not even sure she believes in marriage anymore, since she can not find a decent guy to date. Then, on top of it, her friend is hounding her, wanting to know if she is bringing a date. Lucas knew she needed a break, a mini vacay. Maybe they could help each other. He could be her date, and she could be his and get a vacay to boot. Things were about to get interesting. Too many hard drinks, and I Do, and a runaway bride from Vegas later. You come to realize that this couple’s issues stem from a lack of completing the half-ended conversations or incomplete thoughts, leading to hurt feelings and the idea of a lack of being in love with one another, which is untrue.

This is next in the Vancouver Dominator hockey team series by S.L. Sterling. It is a short second chance, what happens in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas, romance book. Elle Larson is under a bit of pressure, not just because she is the daughter of the owner of the Vancouver Dominators but because she is really trying to make sure that her job with the team works out. It just doesn’t help when one of the assignments she is means she is working with Lucas Clark, her ex. The one she still has feelings for even though she is in full denial they are there. It doesn’t help when he gives her two suggestions. One is that he becomes her plus one for a wedding and two that she goes with him on a weekend trip to Las Vegas to help convince his mother that they are dating again so she needs to but out of his love life. Will they be able to figure it all out, especially with that one special night in Vegas. Or will they throw away the passion and bond they have because a few people think they shouldn’t be together. This is more like a novella as it is just over 100 pages, but it is one that captures you attention from the start and doesn’t let go until you finished it. Can’t wait to see what happens to their characters in the future.

Ella and Lucas dated in college, now they’re working together. She is the owners daughter and he plays for her father’s team. Nobody knows that they used to date besides her father. Ella is working on the latest project for promoting the team and has been told that the guys she was going to be working with are being replaced with Lucas. Now; she just has to tell him that he’s been volunteered and pray that he agree’s to do this publicity.

The Deal; Ella agrees to help Lucas get his mom and sister’s off his back by agreeing to pretend for a weekend to be his girlfriend. In exchange He will do the publicity event. They agree to help each other out with this deal.

They fly out to Vegas to meet his mother and sisters. Everyone is shocked to see that Lucas has walked in with Ella. His sisters are immediately on guard and a bit hostile when they see her. However, she is able to cool the tension and everyone behind to get along. Before they know it; Ella and Lucas are agreeing to a Vegas marriage! She doesn’t believe they’re real and boy is she in for a surprise once she’s no longer intoxicated.

What could possibly go wrong from there?! Did they really get married? How is she going to hid this from friends? Will her father approve? Can they survive the threat on an annulment?

This was what you might call a hockey light romance…there was no actual on page, on ice time as it took place while Lucas was recovering from an injury so if you were hoping to sit back and lose yourself in a little hockey romance, this one might not be what you were looking for.

I enjoyed the book for the most part but there were several instances that I could’ve just jerked the team’s owner (and Ella’s dad), up. Both he and Lucas behaved several times as if she didn’t know her own mind or that she was unable to make her own decisions. I kinda got a little aggravated there a few times but that could just be a me thing.

They did finally get their HEA though so I can’t complain too much (even though I have to say, it looked a little iffy there a time or two). This wasn’t a favorite of mine but it would probably appeal to anyone who loved second chance romances, a fake relationship to make mom happy and a smidge of hockey on the side…for me, 4 stars!

I received a copy of this book for free but this is my honest opinion.

What a sweet second chance short sports romance!
Emma and Lucas dated in college, and now have a second chance when Emma’s father buys the Dominators, the team that Lucas plays for, and Emma starts to work there too. Can they have another chance? Do they want one? When Lucas asks Emma to pose as his fake girlfriend for a weekend in Vegas to appease his nagging mother, in return for Lucas being Emma’s date for her best friends wedding in a few months so she doesn’t feel alone….. things heat up….
One hot weekend in Vegas, a few really strong drinks, some teasing, and Emma agrees to what she thinks is a fake Vegas wedding! Can they stay together for real? Will her father kick Lucas off the team for this? Read on to find out!

There are some minor editing issues.
Otherwise it was a sweet read with a hurt Emma feeling like she was left behind for Lucas’ career and Lucas realizing Emma was always the one…but he has trouble expressing his feelings…Is it too late for them?

The moment Lucas Clark of the Vancouver Dominators hockey team was introduced in this book, I knew he was going to be something special, a sweetheart, one of those who can read the thoughts of their special someone, anticipate what they’re going to do and fight for what he knows they both want even when the other one doesn’t seem to realize it quite yet. He proved this to be true with everything he did in this, his second chance with Ella Larson, the owners daughter and co-worker. My favorite quote comes from Lucas after Ella has repeatedly pushed him away, ignored his phone calls and texts, he replies to her, “You have to shove harder than that to push me away, Ella.”
A fun, second chance, “fake” Vegas marriage romance with some dips along the way but with Lucas it’s no doubt he’s going to make everything right. A very enjoyable read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a short little story about Ella Larson and Lucus Clark and the Vancouver Dominator hockey team.
Lucas is a player and Ella works for her day with team. 5 years ago they dated but broke up with each other but never got over each other.
Both needed a favour from each other. Ella need Lucas to do a photo shoot and Lucas needs her
to be his pretend girlfriend on a trip to Vegas to see his mom and sisters. They are always nagging him about being single.
Everyone is getting along when a suggesting is made about them getting married. Both agree but Ella thinks it's all fake. They go thru with it. While drunk Ella reveils her real feelings for him and the freaks out.
Weeks later they finally figures things out and stay married but not until her father is told about it.
Don't want to spoil how it get works out .... please read and enjoy as I did.

What happens in Vegas………

Hockey player angst, this time off the ice. Ella and Lucas were once an item and are now forced to work together when he is a player on her Dad’s team (Vancouver Dominators) and she works in PR. Somewhat abruptly they decide to let bygones be bygones and help each other - Lucas will do PR event and Ella will pretend to date him to get his mother off his back. The books flows quickly and there is moderate angst. I related more with Lucas as Ella needed to get her head into a more mature space for most of the book. Though I could see how some of her relationships issues/reactions came from a dysfunctional relationship with her Dad (that I felt her Dad needed to own more than he did). I did shake my head at some of their decisions but was very happy with the ending. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this story.

Crossing the Red Line by S.L. Sterling was unputdownable!!! I loved this book from the first chapter and wanted more from Ella and Lucas. I enjoyed the storyline; it was original, page-turning, and the backstory of the main characters was intriguing. I enjoyed the characters; they had an undeniable and intense chemistry. Their history with each other made for a great story that was well-paced, had me laughing and swooning throughout the book. This book is part of the Vancouver Dominators series and should be read in order, as it features other characters from this series. This book is one of my top 5 favorite contemporary sports romances this year. I love S.L. Sterling's books; they are filled with drama, action, more drama, a whole lot of spice, and angst. I so can't wait to see what comes next!!!-By Brooke

Crossing the Red Line is Ella Larson and Lucas Clark’s story. It’s a short second chance story that takes us to Vegas and a chance to catch up with The Vancouver Dominators.
Ella and Lucas have a history, they previously dated but broke up because he was just starting his hockey career and she felt hockey was more important than the relationship. But now they find themselves working for the same team and they both need something from each other…..
Ella needs him to do a photo shoot and Lucas needs a fake girlfriend to stop his mum and sisters giving him a hard time about being single. This should be a win win for both of them so they head to Vegas to meet his family…….and that’s when things really start to heat up.
I really enjoyed this short read because it has all the feels, the chemistry is sizzling, the banter is witty and the characters are adorable but the road was never going to be easy for these two and at times it looked like second time around was not going to be any different so will love win the day. One click this little gem to find out.

A sweet second chance, sports novella romance with a little spice that is a joy to read. Crossing the Red Line gives us Lucas and Ella's story. Lucas is a Vancouver Dominator player and Ella is the owner's daughter and is working for the team. They have a history but she ended up with a broken heart because of his career. She is under so much stress and adding to it is working with Lucas. When Lucas offers her an opportunity which see the two of them going to Vegas, Ella can't say no. Was it the idea of a paid vacation or time spent with Lucas that sees her saying yes? One weekend, a little too much to drink and feelings resurfacing, sees the two of them igniting the spark that seemed to never really go out. Secrets are shared and hearts are healed.

Emma and Lucas get a second chance when they are forced to work on a charity event and it comes to pass that they could help each other by being each other's fake date. Emma needs one for her friend's wedding and he needs one to visit his mother in Vegas. While in Vegas, she is having a great time and thinks that she is fake marrying Lucas to make his mom happy. Misunderstandings happen that are eventually resolved. Emma's tendency to make assumptions and not listen to others verges on being annoying, but the short nature of this novella prevents that from happening.

Note that the story of the wedding Emma needed a date for isn't told.

If you like sports romance, you'll like this quick read that's just spicy enough.

Vancouver Dominators

Ella Larson and Lucas Clark both work for the Vancouver Dominator hockey team, and they also previously dated each other but broke up. She felt he was more into hockey than her.
All her friends are getting married and she just wants to not be a part of it all. Lucas keeps getting flack from his mom about being single and has avoided getting together with her.

When the two of them talk about an upcoming photo shoot she needs him to do, he agrees but they both come up with agreements as long as they help each other out. The agreements are acting like boyfriend and girlfriend. Oh gee what could possibly go wrong?

Ella and Lucas broke up a few years ago, but they have kept this a secret from their friends. They are forced to work together due to a charity for the Vancouver Dominators team.

A series of events leads Ella to join Lucas and his family in Vegas where she pretends to be dating him. The close proximity brings forth long hidden feelings for both of them.

This is a novella so expect a fast burn, especially with the history between the couple. I loved how persistent Lucas was despite Ella trying to shut him out. I also enjoyed the banter between the guys.

Ps. I am looking forward to Clay’s story.

OH WOW this was a great book. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. It was addicted. Lucas needs a girlfriend so he asked Ella to be his fake girlfriend for a couple weeks. Ella and Lucas were going with each other because of his reputation. Now she was falling for him in this moment as she was surprised. They couldn’t fight the temptation any longer and the desire was strong and spicy hot as things were heating up between them. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

Lucas Clark is my new book boyfriend! I fell in love with him instantly in S.L. Sterling's newest release, Crossing the Red Line. I could not put this book down and I finished reading this in one sitting. It was captivating interesting and intriguing. I loved all of the characters and the world S.L. Sterling has created for them. The relationship between Lucas and Ella is sweet, hot, and heartbreaking. I wanted so much more of their story. I did not want it to end. I loved it! And I look forward to more! Chefs kiss!

What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. What happens when you lie to your Mom? How can you think that Vegas chapels are all fake? These two totally confused people, who have quite a history, find out that Karma really is a bitch! They decide to do each other a favor (not that kind) and it all ends up in a muddled mess. Finally, they get it together and admit that they aren’t over their feelings and he has to convince her to give their marriage (it wasn’t fake) a real try. This is a fun read as Lucas and Ella navigate all the mistakes they can possibly make to get their HEA!

Great sport romance novella to cuddle up to on a cold weekend, like the one I had this past weekend. When Lucas and Ella’s find themselves together in a fake dating situation for the first time years after their breakup. The banter is wonderfully witty and their chemistry is smoking. Their careers had them going into different directions the first time, will their opportunity at a second chance be it or will they let it past by. Highly recommend you read to find out, you won’t be disappointed.

A Whole Lot of Assumptions

It's one thing to finish the thought or sentence for another you're in tune with, but another if you're finishing a word or thought based on your assumptions. Ella did a ton of it. There really wasn't a whole lot of story. It picks up as a second chance over a weekend. In a month's time the author simply notes, "a week later" Lucas and Ella finally stand still long enough to declare their feelings and really listen to each other in order to get their happy ever after. It was ok. 🧐

Emma and Lucas dated in the past but they broke up so he could focus on his hockey career. They are thrown back together when Lucas is playing for Emma’s dad’s hockey team. When they agree to pose as boyfriend/girlfriend to help each other out of sticky situations, what starts as fake becomes very real.

They have a fun and flirty relationship. This is a shorter book so there is a little less character development time. I would have liked to know more about why their relationship did not work out the first time.

I read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

A fantastic quick catch up with the Dominators! The little love story for Lucas and Ella, they had a history back in college but now they work together. After some fake dating and a trip to Vegas, everyone’s feelings seem a bit of a mess. Hot and spicy with great chemistry, glad they have both matured enough to deal with their feelings, a great read!

This hockey romance is an entertaining and enjoyable read set within the Vancouver Dominators series. I haven’t read any other the other stories in this universe, however I found that this can easily be read as a standalone. After finishing Ella and Lucas's story I now want to go back and read the previous books about this hockey team. If you like second chance romance with fake dating then this book should be on your list!!!

Crossing the Red Line by S.L. Sterling is the hugely romantic story of Lucas and Ella. They used to be a thing…years ago. Now, he’s part of the Vancouver Dominators, a team that her father coaches. So, they make a deal…one that could be the biggest mistake of her life!

This story really touched my heart and brings out the feelings that the characters have had buried for years. Things are hugely awkward and strained, but they can get through this! Sweet second chance romance!

Ella and Lucas have dated before, but Ella couldn't handle being second to his hockey career. However, Ella is now working for her dad who owns the team and she needs Lucas for a photo shoot. In return Lucas asks Ella to be his fake girlfriend to get his family off his back. When they reconnect, the original chemistry is still there and they go to Vegas to meet his family and what can possibly happen there!
This was a very entertaining if somewhat short read.

For a short story, it packs a punch. It is well written and fully describes the relationship between the two main characters. They have their own individual issues, but Ella has more baggage than she seems to acknowledge. Their past is pushed into their present and despite it all, things are running smoothly until they are caught up in it all. The path of love is not always smooth, with lots of obstacles to overcome.

Weekend in Vegas
This is a quick and easy read about Lucas and Ella. Having dated in the past but now working for the same team, things were a little tense. A weekend in Vegas as a fake couple brings old feelings to the surface and so much more.
With angst, banter, family, teammates, emotion, steam and some much needed communication, these former lovers finally find what they both thought was lost.

Oh emmm gee! I absolutely loved this book. The fact that they got a second chance was amazing. I love how they still had feelings for each other but they didn't tell each other. Her dad is the owner to the team and she works for the team too. I hated how her father talked to her and told her that she was reckless and he knew she would pull the stunt she was pulling. I love how Lucas stood up for her after she left and how she was stuck in her head but he pulled her out.

A stellar hockey second chance romance! Several years ago, Ella and Lucas were together and thought they were solid but life intervened. Fast forward to the present and neither has gotten over the other; once again, life intervenes and puts them back in each other’s orbit and the feelings and chemistry is still there leading to hot, steamy moments as well as sweet and tender. Misunderstandings and words left unsaid makes the road toward happy ever after a bit bumpy but they get there and lucky for us, we get to tag along for the ride.

Crossing the Red Line is Ella Larson (daughter of the team's owner) and Lucas Clark’s story. They need one another's help: A plus one for a wedding and a fake girlfriend to get mom off Lucas's back.
A lovely short second chance read that brought a smile to my face and provided a refreshing break from the rest of the series. I truly enjoyed it!

Thank you for the ARC, S.L. Sterling—I look forward to reading more of your books!
