Tess Hughes is on the run from her abusive ex-husband. The problem is, he’s a detective and there’s no place on Earth he can’t find her. Solution? Hide somewhere that’s not on Earth—the Kindred Mother Ship. That’s how she winds up posing as Pairing Puppet—one of the robotic mistresses that service the Unmated Males of the Kindred who need a little sexual stress release from time to time. Of course, Tess never actually performs a Pairing Puppet’s duties—she hides every time a new ‘customer’ comes in. But then she gets caught out in the open…at exactly the wrong time.
Garron of the Rai’ku Kindred has a dragon sized problem and it’s living right inside of him. His dr’gin, the ravenous beast that lives inside every Rai’ku male, is trying to get out. Problem is, if Garron lets it escape, it will eat the first person it sees. He’s burning with need and the more his desire grows, the greater the danger to those around him. Desperate to quench his smoldering desire and keep his dr’gin contained, he goes to the Pairing House…and chooses Tess.
Now the two of them are on the run. Expelled from the Mother Ship, Tess is once again menaced by her abusive ex who will stop at nothing to get her back. Garron has sworn to protect her but the beast inside him is more dangerous than any outside threat could be.
Can Garron protect Tess from the man who has sworn to destroy her without letting the beast inside him run free? If not, she will surely be…Devoured.
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Main characters: Garron and Tess Hughes Type of Kindred bonding: Half Twin Kindred & Rai'ku
The description of Rai'ku warriors and Garron (Truth's little brother) we had in the previous book as well as the title of this book "Devoured", made me think -before I started reading- that at least someone or maybe many will be eaten in this book, literally. Garron does his best so that his alter ego, the beast dr'gin, won't rise. He tries to bury his feelings, his emotions which will trigger the transformation. He also tries to use a transplant to destroy any love he has BUT no use. The beast will rise. In the end someone is definetely eaten by Garron's dr'gin and I cannot say I feel sorry at all about it. The guy who is eaten totaly deserves it :) Unfortunately two wolves are also eaten in the process and I am not sure they deserve it. The wolves were not really mean or monsters in human form. They just needed dinner which they did not have before they were eaten. Pity for them, true luck for Tess. Nevermind, I am babbling... I loved the story, as I have loved all Kindred stories so far. Garron is wonderful and patient. Tess is super sweet and a true fighter underneath her sensitive behaviour. Both of them had suffered in the past: Garron under his father's fists and Tess under her husband's continuing torture with his fists, his kicks, his belt, his teeth. Garron and Tess are perfect for each other and their love will win in the end - despite the lack of understanding from Tess sometimes. Garron will protect her, will fix her and will make her "Tess BP" again ie. Tess Before Pierce (who is her shitty ex husband).
I will admit that as much as I love love love the kindred series I was a bit scared to see where she would go with this, but once again I had no reason to worry. I have no idea how she can continuously turn out stories that not only put me through the wringer emotionally, but she does. Not only this, but I was simultaneously ecstatic at the ending and begging for the rest of the next story!
Anyway this story did a great job of dealing with some really touchy subjects that involve a bad home life. I love how the characters can be so different and yet have similar experiences that can both pull them apart and bring them together. It took me no time to fall in love with these characters, flaws and all.
I didn't think I could love the gentle Garron more, but this book proved me wrong. He is so sweet, caring, gentle, and all around amazing. It is hard to imagine him having a ferocious beast living inside him. Although he can be pretty growly when needed.
Tess is a kindhearted woman with a dark past. She was easy to relate to and I really felt for her. I was a bit skeptical on a few things she did, but understood given her background. However I was pleased that even given her tragic background she still knew how to stand up for herself. She was a strong heroine and kept going no matter how hard things got.
The romance was of course red hot, but not too fast. They had time to build up and get to know each other. This is one of my favorite things about Evangeline Anderson's books. The build up, it makes everything so much better. Its nice to be able to anticipate the happy ending without it being handed to you on a sliver platter.
Another great book from Evangeline Anderson. Garron is a really cute hero, protective and all... kind of what I like in books. Tess is a battered chubby heroin with a big heart and a lot of scary memories. So ... you can imagine what happened... they met, he protected her, fell in love and ... HEA ^^ But between the meeting of this 2 people and the HEA, there's a lot of things...
Read the book to know more ;)
If i could I've given more than 5 stars.
There is another thing I liked in this book : before beginning, the author give "advice" to reader, especially battered woman, with the number to call if you are in this case. Do let this kind of things happen, fight them ! I'm more than one hundred percent agree with that !
Another instant love. I swear this series and this author can do no wrong in my eyes. :sighs: Thank you book fairy for leading me to Evangeline Anderson.
I couldn't stop reading this until I was absolutely finished. I threw this ontop of my ever-lengthening TBR pile because the fairy was saying...
Tess Hughes may have left her abusive husband but he's made it clear that she can run but she can't hide. She's his. In a last ditch effort to hide, Tess's friend sneaks her aboard the Kindred Mother Ship where she hides in the equivalent of a cyborg brothel for the unmated Kindred warriors. She's able to keep under the radar until Garron, a Rai’ku Kindred, chooses her as his release partner.
Garron has been fighting feelings that are taboo on his home planet but is finding it harder and harder to suppress as the date of his 'name day' approaches. It is on that day that his inner dr'gin will force him to undergo the change threatening everyone around him. Convinced by his brother that a session with a Pairing Puppet will be beneficial Garron chooses one. Bringing her to his room he finds out that she's no puppet and is on the ship illegally.
Tess is returned to Earth where her abusive husband is waiting for her and has plans that will assure she never leaves him again. Garron realizes his mistake when his body demands Tess and no other and sets out to correct his error only to find Tess a prisoner to a man who won't let her go. On top of that Garron's dr'gin is demanding to be released which would be a very very bad thing.
First a cautionary word to any potential reader. IF you have any sort of triggers in regards to abuse at the hands of a partner or spouse, I highly advise you not to read this book. There are many scenes that address Tess's abuse at the hands of her husband including flashbacks that could be disturbing if you have such a trigger. Do not take my opinion lightly.
Reading this book was an eye opening experience as the author didn't shy back from showcasing Tess abuse history. So many times I wanted to jump into the pages of this book and be there for her as she survived through abuse upon abuse at the hands of her 'loving' husband. I wanted to scream at anyone who saw the physical evidence and didn't step in or at least report what they saw to the authorities. But. The author had a diabolical fall back in that the 'husband' was a good looking attractive charismatic man on the police force. He KNEW how to play the game and make it so Tess had no chance to escape him. How many of us are guilty of judging abusers by their physical appearance or demeanor little realizing that behind beauty there may be a core of decaying evil.
On the other side of the coin. Garron had the potential for evil inside of him. His dr'gin. Everyone knew if he released his inner beast people would die and Garron himself might need to be exterminated if he couldn't regain control. So. Judging him as the villain was a no brainer but again, is he being judged on that evilness when HIS core may be of caring, compassion, respect, and wouldn't harm anyone....
As for the actual adult content. Fictional romance reads have the leeway of accelerating points and events that in real life would probably need more time to resolve. Such is the case here. Tess is a broken shell girl who has a second chance at love. Love with an alien. An alien who shapehifts. Shapeshifts into a beast that 'devours' living breathing entities. Therapy would definitely be needed in real life but love does tame the savage beast. :D
Getting to my issues. Totally appreciated taking on the subject of abuse and the potential that there is always hope regardless of how bad things are. Also appreciated the cast of characters and tie in to the new evil bad guy element. Further loved getting the feel for the next installment and those main characters. What I wasn't a fan of was the editing side of things. This is a futuristic sci-fi setting with advanced technology and science. I feel this wasn't taken into account as so many times I questioned if events should have played out the way they did and found myself shaking my head. Also, cheesy dialogue instead of descriptive worded scenes didn't work for me. Seriously drew me out of the pages of this book.
I've been debating whether this could be read as a standalone installment or not. On the surface it could. But. There are scenes and characters that a reader seriously needs to have the background about to understand the significance of them in this book. There is a glossary at the end of the book that does explain some of the series terminology and such so if you are reading this book and aren't sure of a specific term, phrase, or such you could resource that glossary. In the end though I personally have reservations if this is enough to get you up to speed or not to understand things in this book if you haven't been reading the series.
I liked the book. However, the audiobook narrator whispers every time the characters have some internal dialogue, whispering that I found intensely annoying; it pulled me out of the story every time. A really strange and unfortunate choice on the narrator’s part. I also dislike the meat voice he uses for the female lead.
Read this book very quickly. Have read all the Kindred books, but I think this might be where I tap out on the series. At this point, the overall plot elements, dialogue and even sex scenes are becoming too repetitive and predictable, in my opinion. I feel like I can reasonably predict the 12th book already, and I have no sense of anticipation for it, which is a first in this series for me.
My overall feeling is "meh" toward this book, which is disappointing. I have read and enjoyed many of author's books and hope to read and enjoy others in the future.
I loved their whole meet-cute, with Garron thinking Tess was a robot (a Pairing Puppet). So it turns out that Garron's beast was going to come out after all, because in the previous book, it seemed like that wasn't happening. I'm not going to spoil who Garron's beast ends up eating, because a reviewer here inadvertently spoiled it for me.
I think I might be getting slightly sick of the eating the woman out scenes because the same words are always used--"lap her honey from the source, for example". I skipped one scene like that.
Then, when they both get banished from the Mother Ship, Tess and Garron are traveling on Earth, from Florida to North Carolina, specifically. I was just thinking to myself please get off of earth and be traveling to alien planets! When it's sci-fi, you don't want to be reading about experiences on Earth; you want to be reading about other cool planets. Fortunately, they left Earth and went to Zeaga Prime, which was a new planet introduced in the series.
I loved that Garron was able to fly in his dr'gin form and how Tess was like "it's a magic carpet ride"! More like a ride from a polar bear.
Oh, and Tess's ex husband got progressively worse throughout the story...
I'll definitely read Book 12 sometime, but I want to take a break from this series, just so I enjoy the pussy eating scenes more next time.
This was another great entry in a series that I have come to love so much. The characters are ever changing and yet still manage to allow time for characters which had been established in earlier books. The stories seem simple but have a complexity that makes them more interesting than if you had something just totally straight forward. The narrative flows very well though there are sometimes things that hold it back a little. The characters speak and act as you wold expect them to in most instances, though sometimes they seem to do things just to make the story progress.
Garron has been banned from his home-world, Pax because of his siding with his half brother Truth when he had visited with his twin and mate. Garron is Rai'ku but his was a twin Kindred who had lost his twin and mate. He is living on the mother ship and trying to come to terms with the new feelings that he has been having as well as the fact of his 'other' possibly coming out. Tess is running from an abusive spouse who could end her life and make it seem like an accident or something someone else did and has nowhere she can really hide. Her friend takes her to live at the Pairing House (pleasure-bots) for the unmated males where they figure her ex would never look for her. She has lived there for week with no problems when Garron comes to choose one of the pairing bots and accidentally chooses her. Neither of their lives is ever the same after this.
I liked the story between Tess and Garron because they were both kind of lost. Tess because her ex had beaten her down so much she could not see the good in any man and Garron because he had loved and tried to protect someone he couldn't and sought to punish himself forever. There was the requisite trip off-world which I have come to expect and look forward to since you never know what type of place it will be. I got to catch up with my girls from previous books to see what was happening in their lives. And we got to meet the next couple who will be brought together, and see what the malevolent entity in their midst will cause to happen. Really want that wrapped up because it just annoys me a bit.
Overall I would recommend this along with all the series as a must read!
Tess Hughes has found the perfect place to hide from her abusive ex-husband. The Kindred Mothership. However, her hiding place is discovered when she is unable to hide from a male. Soon she is booted off the ship into the arms of her murderous ex-husband, whose plans of ‘punishment’ leave Tess’s future looking bleak and short. Garron cannot believe he found a human woman hiding on the ship and is ashamed of his feelings and reactions to her…but when he sees the future that awaits her on Earth, a future that he has pushed her into, he vows that he will protect her.
I now have another alien on my list of men-i-want-to-be-abducted-by list. Evangeline Anderson has once again got me hooked in to her book by luring hot alien men in front of me. How am I supposed to resist that? This installment in the Brides of the Kindred series gives us Garron’s story, we first meet him in the previous book Divided and I am glad I didn’t have to wait long to see him get his well deserved HEA.
Tess, the heroine of the story was also great, my heart broke for her as you are shown the abuse she has suffered in the past and I loved watching her slowly come to trust Garron, especially as they fit so well together, both in and out the bedroom. In the bedroom the heat was sizzling, and Anderson writes the best dirty talking aliens ever, even the sexually inexperienced ones have got it down. Outside the bedroom, they were just adorable.
This book also continues the story arc of the demon slowly usurping power from the Kindred and trying to start a war with Earth. I can’t wait to see what happens next with this as it adds a great bit of intrigue to the series as well as setting up the next couple in the Kindred series.
I continue to really enjoy this series, it is just the sexy light relief I need and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Word of warning if reading abuse especially by a spouse upsets u don't read this book. EA is very descriptive and Tess reflect back on her marriage in parts of book also Garron reflect back in having a abusive father. I did like the book but parts just didn't flow for me or when reading about Dark Kindred it sound very Star Trek collective names being One or Six. I also kept seeing captain Picard when Borg took him in Six place which was annoying. Anyway I did like the length that garron took to save Tessa from his other self. I'm not keen on Terex with the fact that no one has mentioned he's completely change and coming up with ideas that clearly hurt the unmated kindred. Starting to feel maybe the series is losing its appeal which can happen when this long. Was hoping Di got a story, maybe with Terex as a mate.
I promised myself I was done with the Kindred after the last book. None of the characters are evolving and every book is the same-- the h's all whine and are all "wait, I'm not ready, um, um, um" and the H's are either over accommodating or, in this case, fighting their feelings as well. I feel like every single heroine spent 80% of the book on an inner monologue describing how wrong it is to have a sex drive. So frustrating to read. AND, just because it annoyed me, I need to point out that it's impossible (by definition) for an adult to get a greenstick fracture. My God, the character was supposed to be a nurse and she called it that? Do your fact checking Ms. Anderson.
The series was going downhill for me... But Devoured is amazing!! Garron is a male of worth and the other inside him provides an interesting storyline. Such a sweet pairing between Tess and Garron, he's such a gentle soul.
Devoured is the 11th book in the awesome Brides of The Kindred Series. This is one of my all time favorite series. I highly suggest reading them in order as this saga has characters and storylines that interact with each other throughout the series.
I love starting each new Kindred book as Evangeline's world building is so exceptional, imaginative and enticing you just jump right back into these fantastic and wonderfully familiar places.
Tess is trying to escape from her abusive, controlling ex husband and hides on the Kindred Ship as a Pairing Puppet. Besides having to live with repetitive trauma and constant fear Tess is less than confident. She feels her curvy body with her wide hips and generous breasts are not what attracts men, especially a hunky, gorgeous kindred male with mesmerizing turquoise eyes.
Garron has has his own share of traumas to overcome, from an abusive Kindred father to the harsh violent society of his Rai'ku mother and home world. To avoid burdening a potential mate with his past and his dangerous Dr'gin shifter waiting to emerge, Garron seeks to find some release with a Pairing Puppet. Of course he is instantly drawn to Tess, who is finding refuge among the female puppets.
Together they go on a roller coaster of emotions, adventures, dangerous and shocking events, and of course the blossoming of love. The obstacles and struggles they must overcome ends up cementing their bond, and allows them to heal each other. There are some graphically violent and disturbing scenes especially by Tess' ex-husband. This subject is handled handled tactfully and draws attention to the fact that domestic abuse is still prevalent in our world and must be eradicated. . I loved the way this couple fits together like two halves of a struggling soul, each has what is needed to heal the other. Garron's past gives him the ability to understand and patiently support Tess. Despite the hell Tess has had to live through she is resourceful and resilient. She never loses her ability to empathize with and help others. Until now, Tess worked in a home for the elderly. She is exactly what Garron needs to help overcome his many issues.
True to Evangeline's extraordinary writing are her love scenes, and this couple is no exception. The gradual build up of their romance, physical relationship and fantastic storyline make this an exciting read that you will not want to put down. The love scenes that the author is renowned for, are as usual 5 star hot, they are also pertinent and always enhance her characters while staying true to their stories. Evangeline definitely knows how the feminine mind ticks.
The Kindred Brides is very much a saga, there are several background stories adding depth and excitement. I love revisiting with characters from the previous books, who continue to interact and play important roles in each story.
The closeness of the women on board the Mothership is awesome, I love their often humorous interactions. Together they are delightful, funny, always supportive and understanding of each other, makes me wish I was part of the group.
Already the story for the next book has been imaginatively woven into this story and there is a sample at the end. Now I am not too patiently looking forward to reading "Enhanced."
I loved "Devoured" it is another fantastic addition to the phenomenal Kindred Brides series.
Tess is a strong willed woman scared and on the run from her abusive husband. She tried to do things the legal way but he is a detective and knows how to get away with murder if need be. Where do you go when you are running from someone who can find you anywhere? Answer the Kindred mother ship. She hides out in the pairing puppet housing but not long until Garron accidentally comes across her. Garron is trying to hold his promise to somebody in the past and knows his other side is coming closer to surface. On his home planet he has seen that other side on others rip innocents apart. Tess seems to be the only thing able to calm him but he feels betrayed by her finding in her the pairing puppet housing after he has told her things he hasnt told anyone. What happens next? You will have to read this awesome book and series!
Evangline Anderson is a great author and I love this series! I couldnt put this book down like every other book in this series. If you havent read this series yet I suggest the Brides of Kindred Volume 1 which is books 1-4. I can't wait til the next book comes out!
Tess is on the run from her ex husband who is an extremely abusive cop bent on getting her back. Tess escapes to the morning ships pairing puppet house where Garron mistakenly thinks she isn't real. Having been banished from the ship Garron goes to earth to protect Tess from her ex.
This one was by far the most disturbing in terms of past the main characters had to go through, especially for Tess. I felt her fear and bravery over what choices she made and the fact that she kept going. This one really had more than a positive attitude towards overcoming something someone thinks is impossible.
Another great book by Evangeline Anderson! The Domestic Violence issue in the book was handled with decency. The heroine's trauma from that abuse was filled with so much emotion that I couldn't help but feel it along with her. And then to find a "healing" kind of love in Garron was beautiful! Wonderfully written and can't wait for the next book in this series that always leaves me on the edge of my seat while reading it.
Tess is trapped in a very abusive marriage. To escape her husband who is also an detective, she hides in the "cyborg bordello".
Garron is new on the Mothership, and has a powerful beast living inside of him. To keep the beast from coming out, e is advised to go get a pairing puppet, to get his rocks of. But every time he tries, his superior sense of scent makes it hard for him to choose a puppet. They smell too much like a robot...
Then one day, when his need is very high, he visits the bordello again, and finds Tess there. She smells heavenly, and not at all like a puppet. Tess is so afraid that she will be send back to earth, that she pretends to be a new model of puppet, and Garron, who thinks to finally have a solution to his problem, takes her to his room.
I really liked this book. It might be triggering to people who have been in abusive relations, but I think it is portrayed very well. Being from an abusive family, Garron can relate to her in an unique sort of way, and the love is so well written.
WOW. THat was one of the most intense books i've ever read!!!
I'm not pretty sure where i should start, because it was an emotional ride from the beginning. I loved both of them equally. SHe was half broken, (yeah i'm saying half, because she was broken, really broken, but still holds her mind together without breaking in so many pieces you couldn't count). I trully can't imagine to be in such a Situation. Not in her and neither in his. I believe everyone gets some experience with abusive situations in life and I realy hope not a lot have to experience it to this extent. I wish that the People will get this book in their hands and find the curage to fight back. This Story really got me. I never losed the Feeling of being hunted and cornered. There were Moments when i started to look over my shoulder to be sure no one was following me. In the parts were it would be a little cozier and sweet i loosed for moments the feeling of being chased, but after that it was like being imprisoned from her memories who became like my own one and i couldn't stand any touch from someone else (i didn't shake any Hands on that day). I will not say that his abusive parent experience less is, but I am afraid to say it is more normal in our daily lifes. And so, not so shocking at all. It is not less and the betrayal still hurts a lot.. My heart silently bleeds for him, but in her case it was screaming and that very loud. And when i finaly believed it would end great, i was so hurt and disapointed and angry (it did end well!!) with myself and everyone around me that i barked at people near me till i did read the last page. AND THEN everything simply flowded out of me and i was feeling like i had run a Marathon in the last days.
That was my impression of the book. Soooo, know is your turn to take this roller coaster and experience your own Story with this book :). I absolutely recommend it!!!! 5 Stars
I've had a love/hate relationship with this series. The characters are hit and miss and there tends to be repetitiveness that leaves you feeling like you wasted your time. So, I stepped away from this series for a while. I think stepping away helped.
Devoured is the 11th book in the Brides of the Kindred series. There are cameos from several of the other characters, especially Truth, Far and Becca (since they were the main characters in the last book). Truth's half brother, Garron is the main character of this book. The author gives you background to help you understand Garron's plight, but I think you need to read book 10 to really understand all the issues.
Tess is the heroine of this story. She is also the victim of spousal/domestic abuse. Her husband is manipulative and sadistic. He's also a cop and uses all his resources to manipulate Tess. There are detailed flashbacks, recounts, and dreams that may upset readers who are not aware of this content.
I liked Garron and Tess together. Garron was patient and understood the trauma that plagued Tess because of his upbringing. Garron was half Kindred half Rai'ku. He was worried about his "other" manifesting on his "naming day", think like birthday, and murdering people. Along with Garron trying to suppress the rise of his "other", there are complications with the High Counsel, tensions from the humans on the World Council, and low-key demon possession. You've got yourself a catastrophe waiting to happen. We also get a glimpse into a new planet where an enhanced Kindred is dream-sharing.
This is an adult read with a tiny splash of gore. I like the ideas within the stories, but I don't always enjoy the execution. I did find myself skimming through some parts that I thought were overly done...and I didn't feel as though I missed anything meaningful by doing it. I will also warn you that editing is needed. 2.5-3 stars
I was starting to think these books were starting to follow the same scenarios over and over again. Then I read the story of Garron and Tess.
To start off, I really connected with these two characters. Tess is trying to run from an abusive ex-husband. Garron is trying to run from who he is. Two broken souls wanting to beak free of their past and start anew.
Such intense emotions are portrayed in this story. I feel for Tess and her problems. It is heart wrenching to see someone like her go through such intense pain, suffering and emotions. Unfortunately there are many women like Tess. I am happy she finally found the light at the end of the tunnel. It was a stressful and highly emotional journey, but she got there in the end.
As for Garron? I love him. Such an honourable man who has never felt love, feelings or intense emotions before. And his Di'gin? Gorgeous! He is such a complex man who has been through much. Garron has never found his place in the universe until his brother Truth showed him a different way of living
I cannot help but feel that this book is also a turning point for the Kindred Mother Ship. With Ur being within the Kindred High Counsellor, it has become a crucial turning point in whether the Kindred stay as they are, or whether war will erupt. I have not liked the villains since the scourge and was wondering if the Shadow Demons would be the same. Unbelievably, I am actually liking these villains.
I look forward to see what is install for the Kindred in the next book. With he introduction of a new type of Kindred, it has spiked my intrigue to keep reading more.
4 stars ⭐️ Another winner from Evangeline Anderson!!!
I really enjoyed this addition to the kindred series, yes it’s similar to others before it but at the same time it’s different.
I really loved Garon, he was just as sweet and protective as his kindred brothers before him. He was so swoony and adorable I couldn’t help but love him. I will say that I was surprised by this book in the way that Garon had a lost love before Tess and I usually hate that in books when the hero was in love with someone before the heroine because it usually always feels like the hero feels guilty for liking the heroine, especially when the previous love has died rather than breaking up, and while yes there was guilt from Garon it wasn’t a huge part of the story, and it wasn’t shadowing every single thing the hero and heroine did together. It was at first but I was glad that Garon was the one to decide to move on rather than Tess pushing him to leave the memory of his past love behind, Garon chose to move on because his feelings for Tess were so strong compared to what he felt for Nella In the past and that was really nice to read. Tess was also a good character for me, I felt like she compared so much of everything to her ex which got a bit repetitive in areas but I mean I think after the kind of trauma that monster put her through I’m not sure if I’d be able to not compare everything of the male species to that piece of sh*t.
This book also sets up the next book pretty well and introduces the next type of kindred in a really eerie and interesting way and I’m exciting to read a new type of my kindred book boyfriends 🥰😍
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 11th in the Brides of the Kindred series and ends in an HEA for the couple, but a main plot point is still unresolved. Garron is Truth’s half-brother. He is fighting urges not allowed on his home planet. He finds Tess pretending to be a robot prostitute and forces her off the mother ship. Tess goes to the extreme of hiding with the Pairing Puppets to escape her abusive ex. The abuse is truly horrific. Some is viewed by Garron and some is told by flashback.
>Garron decides to help save Tess from her ex, but he falls for her himself. He fights letting the beast inside of him loose, thinking it will kill Tess. Garron’s lost love was killed by his brother’s beast, so he has a point in trying to protect Tess.
>I love when the couple visit strange planets. The dark Kindred’s planet was very weird and emotionless. Most of the inhabitants were partially robotic. The descriptions were good, making the reader feel as if they were there. Garron’s beast was very unique. I was expecting something dragon-like, but the actual creature was very odd. The scene of the almost rape was so vivid with the author using taste and color to create a truly scary scene.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the book 5 stars. The book is a bit hard to read due to the abuse, but really worth being read.
I WANT THE NEXT ONE! Spoilers; This book is the 11th instalment of the Kindred series this one moved away from the main cast of the other books but you will still need to read the others first to understand what is going on and who is who. I highly recommend reading but caution if you don’t have access to an e-reader of some type if you don’t then you’re going to be disappointed because half of these books are e-books but they are well worth the leap into e-books they pushed me into taking that leap and now I can’t stop reading them but I will always be a real book reader. This book carries on nicely from the previous book and delves into the dark side of Ur. (Bad guy) But it centres on Garron and Tess with him trying to protect her from her abusive nearly ex-husband but Garron has taken a vow to never fall in love again after his first love Nella died at the Hands of his brother but there is an attraction that he can’t fight but it also depends on the beast within will it eat Tess as it’s first meal or will it see Tess as it’s mate? You’ll have to read it to get the answer I’m not going to tell you. This book also leads into the next book and if your anything like me you’ll want to read it and the others in the series enjoy….
This is my favorite of the series so far. It's got everything: shifters, monsters, aliens, fated mates.
There is a huge trigger warning which Anderson describes at the beginning of the book. The main character, Tess, has a very abusive (former) husband who is also a police officer and seems to be able to control her even as she is trying to separate from him. Previous abuse is discussed, and during the book he does kidnap her and follow her after she is rescued by Garron, her fated mate.
Garron is also half Kindred and half from Rax? (he's Truth from the previous book's half brother). He has been worried about shifting because the men from his planet shift into a monster and eat whomever is around when they first shift, then they mate with whomever they choose afterward. He tries to protect Tess from his other side as much as he can, while keeping her safe from her husband.
The husband, Pierce, does get his comeuppance, though, and the scene, while gory, is cathartic after all he's done to Tess.
The series is interlaced but you could frankly read the previous book and this one together and not have missed too much to enjoy just them in this series of over 40 books.
This was so much ex husband drama and them not being completely open and communicating with one another that I wanted to throw my iPad. The heroine had been a away from her ex just a few months and he had JUST killed her dog, but she all but acted normal and healed. Then after he snatches her and beats her back she’s all of a sudden this scared, terrified, trust no one, screaming nightmares and anti sex annoying brat. So instead of her starting that way and growing, she flipped switch and stay that way basically the whole book. No sex until basically the end. She loves the hero Garron but then all of a sudden when he needs to mate with her she refuses because he killed her psycho ex. Uh okay.... Again why couldn’t anybody just honestly communicate and say what would happen or what they thought would happen if he let his beast out? Too much unnecessary drama and anxiety producing moments. No romance vibe.
I do not usually criticize, but the situation pissed me off. Well, you marry a guy, and on your honeymoon he bites you so hard to leave a scar, in a delicate area of the body, if that does not warn you that you are facing a monster I do not know what would. That's proof enough to get him behind bars, no matter how police. Many times abuse is avoided by putting a brake on from minute one. Yes, I know that the writer wanted to reflect a battered woman and all that, but the lack of emotional intelligence and survival instinct of the heroine is stunted, I can't believe there are such idiots. And for the record, I speak with knowledge of the facts, I have met abusive men or liars before, and I quickly made zero contact with them, it is the most effective with this type of men. Otherwise, Garrón is very cute.

Book 11 in the series, as usual, loved the hero and the world building (kudos on such amazing detail and wonder), absolutely hated the heroine. I'm terribly sorry that such stuff happened to her and no torture is enough for the a*hole. But, she has the personality and charm of dishwater and her entire life is consumed by her ex-husband, even in subsequent books. Ms Anderson is definitely capable of writing excellent, likeable personalities. Just doesn't give them to her heroines. I wonder why that is. I've only liked a couple of her heroines so far, Nadia, Nina and maybe Lauren. The rest have all been whiny, flaky, indecisive, selfish user jerks who use the heroes for their selfish purposes and leave them hanging. Yikes. That said I'm in love with the entire kindred world and will continue reading. This world is like Crack and I'm a junkie needing a fix lol.
