Rachel is a dedicated nurse, tending to others while sick in the hospital. When she is diagnosed with a terrible disease, she no longer knows what to do with her life. She wants to continue helping people, but now she will resort to very different means. There are too many scumbags on the street hurting others. On the other hand, Detective Brian O'Reilly cannot be more frustrated because after working earnestly he manages to put a rapist and murderer in jail, only to find out that he is again on the streets after certain evidence is thrown out. He and his partner have to start again from scratch. In the meantime, a serial killer appears to have arrived in town. Now they have these two cases in their hands. An interesting plot, but highly predictable, although some nice twists keeps you wanting to read more. The book deals with a moral dilemma.
