WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE KIND OF LOVE YOU TRULY NEED? “If we want real love, ideal love, limitless love, God’s heart is where to find it. It’s the only love big enough to meet the God-sized needs of your life.” --Ruth Myers
Most people–even those with a deep faith–fail to really grasp the incredibly deep and passionate love God has for them. Yet, while God’s love for us is beyond description, it doesn’t have to be beyond our experience.
In The Perfect Love, Ruth Myers helps uncover the surprising, quiet clues and expressions in Scripture of just how much God loves you. With the expressions of prayer and praise at the end of each chapter, you’ll learn to experience God’s love more deeply and return it more fully in worship. And you’ll welcome a new sense of security, honor, and significance that comes from experiencing how God’s love — The Perfect Love–truly meets your deepest needs.
I've read many books about God's love, but in The Perfect Love, Ruth Myers addressed God's love in the most intensely personal way I've ever experienced. This book is not an easy read, but it is a worthwhile read: one to be savored as you contemplate God's love for you in a way you've never considered before.
I did not enjoy this book as much as I have other books by Ruth Myers. This best part of this book is when she quotes Jim Elliot or C.S. Lewis. She just seems to have little original thought in this book.
The Perfect Love- by Ruth Myers is an inside look into the relationship Ruth has with God. The book is PACKED full of advice for growing closer to God, memorizing his deep truths and how to practice relying on Him more each day. Ruth was in her seventies when she wrote this book (she has since passed on), and you can tell she has lived a full life learning to trust in her savoir. Yes, this book is about how amazing God’s love is, but it goes deeper than traditional God-is-love books. She shows us what this means to us, and what our response should look like.
There is so much freedom in learning to trust God, in learning more about who He is. Ruth said “It’s who He is that makes me who I am” and later talks about how God is first. For women, this message is especially huge, as husbands and friends can and do disappoint. I know that I crave the intimacy that can only be satisfied by Christ. He is who will fill us, and He is the one we need to aim to please. “Building our sense of identity on human responses is like building on sand, which easily erodes when the winds blow and the rain descends. It can not give us the foundation we need both today and all our lives.” (p. 247) I loved reading this book, and will definitely return to it again. Ruth doesn’t minimize pain, or our individual struggles, but she shows how God really can bring you through all of them and that he is the answer to what we are all searching for.
This is a book to sit on- to take slow sips away over an extended period of time. The message is often repeated, and the book feels long, but it is strong. A wonderful message that Ruth supports with Bible verses, poems, songs, and quotes. I wish that her reference section had been a little better showing readers where to actually find all of the wonderful references she made, but that is only a small complaint. I received this book free for review purposes, and it will remain a staple in my library for years to come.
- I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. -
When so many books one can find in the Christian section seem to focus on spiritual warfare and all sorts of negatives (that aren't really applicable to my own personal faith, not believing quite the same way as so many), it's really refreshing to have a book devoted to the idea of God's love, and not only vaguely, but specifically, individually, God's love for YOU. Being someone who believes strongly that God is love, I'm always glad to see *this* side of faith represented, and I'm thankful to Ruth Myers for being a part of that.
Granted, this book wasn't quite what I anticipated, but it was still a fresh breath of air when the rest of what we are exposed to as Christians is so often stale and stifling. Any book that is encouraging, uplifting, and positive is something I feel is valuable. Faith shouldn't be about dragging people down with condemnation and judgments, but about reaching out to the dignity and worth of every being and telling them "you, yes you, you are special, you are loved; loved deeply, unconditionally, completely." And this book is about just that, revealing to the reader just how much God really does love them.
I may not have agreed with absolutely everything the author had to say, but I did enjoy her writing style and personal reflections and experiences, and there was much that one could take from this book even if one doesn't feel receptive to all of it.
The title of this book is so captivating, I was excited when l received a copy for me to read and review. Unfortunately it has taken me over a month to write a review about it because l did not enjoy the book as much as l thought l would. I read the first few pages and l just could not get it together, l put it down for a couple of days almost gave up but I finally read it to the end. I did not connect with this book because there are many story lines within it that l could not keep up with. At the beginning the book drags along and l found it really hard to get engaged with what the author was trying to portray.
Having said that, I must admit the author does bring out God’s love in a way l had never looked at it before. She tells about how God carried her through all the trials that she encountered particularly since she lost her first husband to cancer at a young age and had to travel from one place to another alone with her two children to carry on with her ministry. There were moments when she felt alone but God’s love was more than she needed and He carried her through. You can carry on reading my review here; http://www.womensetapart.com/the-perf...
I was excited to read this book because in college, I had the pleasure of reading different book about God’s love for you called ‘Falling in Love with Jesus’. I learned so much from that one and used it as a comparison point when reading this one. I have to say I was rather disappointed. Although the topic of this book was great it really wasn’t a good read. I found it hard to be engaged in what the author was saying. It tries to be a devotional book which isn’t a bad thing, just not what I think the Author was trying to do. Unfortunately, I found this book extremely difficult to get into. I did stick it out and finish the book and I would like to add that although the books starts off slow and a bit boring it does get slightly more exciting and fun to read towards the end, but not enough for me to want to read it again. One aspect of this book that I liked is how she applied scripture to her experiences in her life to point out God perfect love for us. I Wouldn’t say I wont recommend this books but its definitely one you have to be seeking not just one to pick up and read on a whim.
This book sat on my shelf for years, and I finally felt compelled to pick it up and read it. It was exactly what I needed. I confess that the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the book felt a little weak to me, mainly that she wasn't saying anything I didn't already know. But the last half of the book - WOW. It took me weeks to get through because it was so deep and rich. It completely changed my perspective on some aspects of my relationship with Christ, and it really re-focused my attention on the things that matter most.
I read this book slowly (usually took a chapter and split it into two nights of reading). The author had a lot of great things to say and I didn't want to read this book fast. There was a lot of great bible verses that spoke to me while I read this book and this will be a book I will keep on my bookshelf and will re-read it over and over again. If you enjoy reading non-fiction Christian books that will help you grow in your faith with God then you need to read this book!
