I own women. It’s the chase that gets me, that look in their eyes when they surrender.
Until Sarah.
She won’t give in and I won’t give up… until she is mine, even if she has to suffer.
But in her eyes I don’t see surrender. I see something darker, something dangerous and there’s a twinge in my gut that tells me I might’ve just picked the wrong woman.
I have been an avid reader for longer than I can remember, desiring the darker, edgier works of Bram Stoker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I first started writing in High School giving that away when my first attempt was nothing more than dribble. I wish now that I kept at it, pursued it with a hunger that I currently possess.
Writing is my passion, it is what fuels the fires inside of me and it is an all-or-nothing furnace that keeps me up at all hours.
I am married to a wonderful supportive husband, I have 2 wonderful kids and the best friends that I have waited some 35 odd years to meet.
Wow what a ride. This is a new to my author and a very talented one. She has that unique ability to truly show and not tell, making the reader feel like they are in the story ****shudders.
Why the shudder? because some of the story was scary shit, and had my wanting to turn around and run, instead I was screaming out warnings to the characters.
I would call this an erotic thriller/horror with a touch of paranormal.
Warning: Contains Non/dub-consent and all sorts of kinky sex, including Mf, ff, Mff, Mm and Fm.
Thank you to the author for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review
Do I intend to read more by this author? You bet ya!
Derek Winton has it all. Prestigious job, outrageous salary, luxury car, extravagant home, any woman he wants, and so much more as is befitting an alpha in the business world. Yet, it's the one female who doesn't want anything to do with him that has him obsessed. There's no woman who can replace her even though he tries and tries and tries. The only solution left is to MAKE her agree to be his which will require the use of ropes, chains, and other useful convincing equipment.
Sarah Caldwell has a stalker. One who may think he's God's gift to women but in all actuality isn't even close. Her repeated attempts to get rid of him only seem to make him more and more determined. Little does Derek realize that Sarah's not the innocent little PA he thinks she is. She so much more and if he continues to pursue her he'll find out exactly what that means.
This book was provided to me free in exchange for an honest review.
Warning: This book is dark. It's a psychological thriller sort of read that includes topics that will affect those who have triggers with rape/non-consent scenes. Highly advised not to read this book if scenes of that type affect you.
I am one who can appreciate fantasy erotica of all shapes and sizes. I have no triggers and my hard limits are restricted to a select number so books of this type excite me more than anything as I love erotica thriller/horror themed books.
With that being said this book read like an episode of "Twilight Zone" with it's over the top man whore Derek who readers will come to hate and despise hoping karma will meet him head on. He's a total and complete sociopath who treats women in the most deplorable of manner which is graphically depicted in several non-con scenes.
This leads into Sarah. Initially she has all the classic submissive tendencies that would have the reader believe that she will end up as so many of the other women in this story have. Used and thrown out as garbage. But. There's a hidden side to Sarah's character. Non spoiler code of conduct restricts me from going into who/what that means but it's a doosey.
For those readers who look for a romance slant in their reads. Move on. Not here. BDSM with emphasis on the S-M side. Erotica. The HFN ending could evolve into some sort of affection/romance in any follow up installments but it's open ended for now.
I'm on the fence if my issues were because of editing issues or a lack of research into BDSM and the paranormal slant posed in this book. There is a VERY emotional prologue teaser that sets the stage for a mysterious point that is in all actuality suppose to be an epilogue (?) or occurs at some point in the actual storyline itself (?) but it's never clear to me where it really fits in the grand scheme of the story itself. Also, a male can't just declare one day that they're a Dom and be one. Especially if said Dom is a sadist. So so so wrong on many levels. On the opposite spectrum. If a female is a Domme, they're a Domme and will have that behavior and mind set. Last issue was the fact that there were multiple secondary info/details that made no sense in the grand scheme of the overall story for me. If secondary characters are pulled into the storyline (instead of a social or complimentary role) I need to know the end result and not have it drop off.
This is a book that will appeal to a select target reader fan base as it's dark and can be disturbing to sensitive readers who have triggers. The concept was a definite plus and I totally appreciated the role reversal aspects. I just have issues with the meat and potato body of the read that I couldn't get past.
From the sexy, to the sadistic, to the downright dark, Kim Faulks once again delivers a high quality thrill with "Suffer".
Having read Ms Faulks' other works, I was eagerly anticipating reading this and it didn't disappoint. Her no holds barred style of writing is the perfect vehicle for dark erotica, safe, sane and consensual have no place here. With content ranging from dubious consent to mind melting psychological torture, "Suffer" describes the journey of high powered marketing executive Derek Winter from abusive misogyny to willing slave at the hands of the mysterious and slightly strange Sarah Caldwell.
Ms Faulks has the enviable ability to make her readers love (and hate) her characters passionately. Yet I was sure that I was too rational to completely hate a fictional character, until I encountered Derek Winter. As Ms Faulks walked me through his world, I began at distaste for his attitude towards women, moving swiftly to dislike of his professional and personal practices. I was completely surprised however, when I realised that I actually hated this man.
I probably should have expected the hatred. The mind blowingly sadistic, dubious consent sex scenes provide an insight into the mind of this scumbag that most erotica does not offer. In "Suffer" the reader sees the darkness inside, the reality of hatred, the swirling quagmire that is the innermost thoughts of Mr Winter. It is this hatred of this character that makes what comes next all the much sweeter.
With all the dark erotica on the market, it is a rare book indeed that makes me feel that psychological torture is deserved. I enjoy the physical degradation, the humiliation, the sadism, the pain (and Ms Faulks does these OH so well) but I have a hard time with the mind twisting. But boy did he deserve it. It felt justified by my hatred, righteous in my mind, in fact at some points, I REVELLED in his punishment.
And Sarah, well.....
I refuse to say more, as this is a book that should be read and giving away the plot line or more about the characters would do all other readers a disservice. Be aware, this is not a BDSM story, it is DARK, it made me flinch at some points.

I hate rating books. I'll review and give my honest opinion but the rating always seems unfair.
So the story goes...
Derek Winston is a Pompous Ass, total d.bag. What I did like about him was he knew it. He knew women wanted his money and he treated them all like whores. I related to one part of him. He was a sadistic fuck. I personally love mild to moderate sadism. Derek however was extremely sadistic. He might even be described as a sexual sadist cause he never claimed any feelings for the women he fucked. This isn't some guy pretending to be anything less than a man who likes to own. His house. His car. His women.
Until meets her...
Sarah Caldwell is described as dark skin but that could be any ethnicity. I like the idea of leading lady not being cookie cutter. She was not ever submissive to Derek and rebuffed him to the point I almost wanted him to shove something in her mouth to bring her to her knees.
I can't sat much more without giving away the ending. Suffice to say Derek gets a lot more than he bargined for messing with Sarah.
My gripe with rating this book was the ending. I'm sure if I had a little more I would have been happy but I just was not happy with the way things ended.
The sample of the next book was what turned things around for me. Those few pages renewed my interest in the series. That character had more swagger than Derek. They really had no comparison in my opinion...and yes..that will be for another review.
Overall I give Suffer 3.5 rounded to 4. I rarely rate first series books that high anymore because the follow up is usually a let down. I have a feeling Kim Faulks will be my go to girl for PNR/DE in the future.
I don't even know where to begin with this book. The synopsis sounded promising, too bad the book didn't live up to it.
It started out pretty good, like it was leading up to a dark non-con.. then it took a nose dive right off into "What the HELL" land.
Sure, Sarah was suppose to be "teaching Derek a lesson" about how to treat women.. okay, I get that, but that's about the only thing I *do* get about this book. It just kept getting worse until it was crazy ridiculous. It was almost a DNF for me, but when I got to about 80% I figured I'd already invested time that I'd never get back so why not go for it.
The author should have stuck with one theme.. BDSM (con?) non-con, or Paranormal Erotia.. for me, mixing those two genres, the way it was written, just came off like a train wreck. It was like changing horses in midstream with no real rhyme or reason for doing so.
This book is actually a 1.5 star, rounding it up to 2.
Wow! I don't even know how to write a review for this one. First, Derek is an a**hole. I mean, I didn't see one nice part of him, but in the end, I kind of fell in love with him. He uses women, is arrogant and takes selfish to a whole new level. Sarah is strong, and seems uncompromising. We don't really get a feel for the 2 of them together until almost the end of the book and it kind of ends in a cliff hanger (in my opinion). It is written from Derek's POV, which I found a refreshing change. I like seeing it from the "monster"'s POV. There were a few parts that I had to re-read because I was a little confused as to what was going on, which is why I didn't rate it a 5. Be warned that this is not a romance, but is very dark. It has elements of BDSM, what some may consider rape, m/f, f/f, m/f/f, m/m. With that being said, I can't wait to read the next one by this author!
***I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.***
This is what you would call a comeuppance story. For the man who uses and abuses women and feels he is in control and has the power. Well, payback bites! He has gone after the wrong women this time. Does she hold a dark power over him? All the warnings and he never heeds them, part of his arrogance. I guess this is one time when the golden rule of life isn't so golden and paying the piper comes at a high price. This is a dark paranormal erotica with BSDM and absusive sexual behavior of sadistic nature.
I received this story from the author in exchange for a honest review. This story is an erotic dark read that encompasses the moral of paybacks are a b****. The main character is a rich playboy who treats woman poorly and takes what he wants. Unfortunately he goes for the wrong women and is given his payback in the form of severe sexual suffering.
I can't believe I finished this story. But I did. Not for me. But the writing is good. This came out of some dark spot in the authors mind, I don't want to go there again. 2 stars for the writing.
This is a DARK read. Suffer is about a man named Derek. He's wealthy, arrogant and a grade A jack wagon. He takes what and who he wants without regard to their wants and desires. Everything is about him, always. One day he meets Sarah and boy does she deliver his just desserts to him. You see, this story is much more than erotica, BDSM, violence, rape, etc. At it's core is a story written for every person who has ever been violated, abused, used and has flipped all of that ugliness in a way to provide an eye for an eye justice, if you will, for the victims. Yes this is fiction however what a great way to get revenge without actually committing a crime by writing a story. I find it brilliant especially with having a female as the villain. Read only if you love DARK books with explicitly disturbing and adult themes.
SPOILERS This is is the first book that i have read about a Domme witch. It was darkly refresing and totally different. I first heard of this book from one of my groups on Facebook which was a teaser. And it did not disappoint. Finally a book that has a bad man getting what he deserves after what he has done. What goes around come around.
Derek- Written from his point of view. We don't know a lot of his back story. Only that his mother abanadoned him and he was a skinny kid that always got picked on. He never wanted to be at the mercy of a woman agan. He is a total man whore who is used to getting what he wants, no matter the costs. He thinks with his lil head without thinking about what his actions might cause in the long run. Then one fateful day he meets Sarah and his life has never been the same. He gets lost in his need to claim her. When in fact she is luring him in with her own spell. You never really see it coming. His dominance is all an illusion.
Sarah- We don't know much about her besides that Derek is obsessed with having her. She's the receptionist for a marketing company Derek uses. And he wants to claim her. He was even thinking of basically kidnapping her. I loved how she played the weak one to make her more appealing to Derek. When in reality she is the dominant one. The turn about in this book.
This has all the element of a great Dark Erotic Book like obsession, kidnapping, forced submission, dark desires, mind f**ks and the works. One question though, was the prolog part of the time she had him in captivity or was it after he submitted? Can't wait to read more from this author.
I got lured in by the cover. Suffer has an awesome cover. It one of those got to have covers that draw you in. Then I read the blurb. Oh yes…very intrigued here. Couldn’t wait to get started. I was in for quite a treat.
Derek is a complete A$$HAT! He treats woman like crap and you just can’t WAIT for someone to take him down a peg or two…or twenty. Pay back are a b!tch…or shall I say witch. I’m not exactly sure what Sarah is but I do know she is vengeance to Derek. This is not a woman to trifle with. Derek has certainly met his match. This book will take you on one crazy ride and will keep you guessing all the way through. The book starts out with a Prologue that has me wondering how did we get here and finishes with an ending that has me screaming I want more. Of course it’s the crazy journey in-between that will keep guessing and coming back for more. All the stuff Sarah puts Derek through almost makes you feel sorry for him…almost.
I’ve read several book but author Kim Faulks and each one has lured me in. Suffer is dark and twisted. It certainly will have you begging for more. Now the hard part is sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for the next book to come out. Will it be more about Derek and Sarah? Who knows! All I do know is I want it and I want it now!
I received this book from the author for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.
Exceptional start to a series. I loved it. There's nothing I didn't like about Suffer. Another fantastic dark and twisted tale by Author Kim Faulks. I love her style from her in depth characters to the story line. She masterfully captures your attention from the very first pages. I've personally never read a book by her that I haven't loved! If you like a bit of dark with your reads then she's definitely the author for you! I NEED the next book in this series!
Derek has a history with hurting women and likes it until crossing paths with Sarah who he can't get out of his head becoming obsessed with her fiery spirit and his drive to make her submit to him. Who will Suffer in the end?
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was introduced to this author's works just recently. This is the first book I have read by Kim. I have to say she has me hooked. Suffer has an unexpected twist that you would never guess just from reading the synopsis. I look forward to reading more of this talented author's work.
Derek is a priviliged a-hole, used to get (or take) what he wants. Meeting Sarah is the start of something else, though, and soon he´s getting what´s a long time coming. Quick read and the start of a series. Dark, smutty and gritty.
I got to 21% in the book, just past the point where Derek pretty much turned into a woman hating rapist who refers to females in extremely derogatory words. After that, I had no desire to waste my time further.
Different story! Loved the characters! It was over way too quick! Highly recommend especially if you are looking for a quick read. Read the preview of another book in this series and I am looking forward to reading more!
It's a good book I would say for readers in their maybe twenties and are very sexually active but for me this book is a little much I prefer mysteries drama and some romance .
