When an old acquaintance from Gabe’s past shows up to collect on an unpaid debt, Gabe is wise enough to the ways of his old world to understand the dangers of refusing to pay up.
But when he learns that the “payment” involves acts that will cause him to betray Cole’s love and trust, he is torn between his fear of losing the man he loves - and the threat of harm that could come to Cole should he interfere.
NOTE: This is Book 1 of Gabriel's story. Gabriel is Volume 4 of the Phoenix Club Series.
Born and raised in scenic Coos County, Oregon, CJ enjoys the small town atmosphere and down-to-earth country folk who populate the area. She is a single mother and lives with her 18-year-old daughter, 1 horse, 4 dogs and 6 cats deep in the country woodlands which gives her plenty of time to write.
She is a Christian and a strong supporter of the LGBT community and favors gay erotic romance when it comes to writing. She hopes that her stories of love and acceptance will help further compassion and understanding for LGBT people who she feels is greatly misunderstood and persecuted - in a large party by the Christian community.
Most of all, she is hopeful that her stories will bring comfort to those who have been told that God hates them because they are different. It is her strong belief that God loves everyone and His love covers all.
I was afraid to begin this first book in Gabriel's trilogy, and the tenth in the overall series. Gabe and Cole have been a fixture in all of the previous books, and watching them change from friends with benefits to exclusive has been a joy. I couldn't stand the thought of Gabe's past coming between them, and even though I had an inkling of how this was going to transpire, knowing how protective Gabe is, I still wasn't sure how well I was going to handle it. Let's face it, people, I'm a sucker for the guys of Phoenix Club.
The author left me hanging, a little, at the end of the previous book. Who is Quint Santini, and what does he want with Gabe? It seems that Gabe had a rough upbringing, got involved in a gang, and then he met Nathan Santini, head of a mob family. Nathan became the father Gabe never had, and Quint, Nathan's son, resented Gabe as the "golden boy". There is bad blood between Gabe, and Quint, and now that Nathan is dead, Quint has all the power he needs to seek revenge on Gabe.
Much like the other books in this series, 'Hostage Hearts' had a number of converging storylines occurring together. In many ways, it was wonderful to see Angel, Dane, and Maddy so happy together, and, of course, the emotional drama brought about by Horatio and Max was ever present. Including watching Max start a potential relationship with Carl. When I finally get to Max's books, it better be a really good secret about Horatio and him, since I've been front and center for this since book one. Anyway, I would've liked more of just Gabe and Cole, but I also understand that since they've been so prevalent in all of the other books, the author is taking her time getting to their climax. Pun totally intended.
You'd think by now I'd be used to these cliffhangers the author leaves me on. Well, I'm not. So there. I guess I'll just have to hurry up and read the next book.
Ugg, this mini series of this whole series is going to cause me panic attacks. C.J. has just finished the third book in this mini series, Gabriel, so you can read all three. This series is like nothing I have read before. If you don't have a faint heart, you can read on. If you are bothered by abuse, rape, or torture, this series is not for you. I want to adopt every one of these boys. They are truly Phoenix's rising up from the ashes. Gabe and Cole are like the "big" brothers to all of them, so when they fall apart, the family could shatter. I cannot say a lot because it would be nothing but spoiler, but the family has to step up and help Cole and Gabe from flying apart. I will say they do step up and it is beautiful. Please read this whole series starting with Abel, then Caleb, Angel, and Gabe. The next one is Maxwell and I cannot wait. This series is very affordable, some of which are free or 99 cents. I only hope this author is writing from imagination and not from experience, because what happens to these boys will break your heart. Please take a chance with it, you will not be disappointed!
Cole & Gabe are my second favorite couple in this book series. We also got some Angel and Dane in here as well. However this is mostly focused on games problems that are coming back from the past after the guy that was like his father Nathan, has died.
The guys biological son I'm thinking is going to make Gabe's life miserable. He's already shown up at the club and he's putting Gabe in a position that he does not want the guy near Cole or to know how much coal means to him because he'll use it against him.
It's actually already drove Gabe away because he's trying to protect Cole. Which one previous books I know this is not going to go well until book 3 when everything gets sorted out. I was happy that there was an appearance by Clint I cannot wait to see how he plays into this book more well the next two books rather.
I know what Angel overheard gave saying to his phone is not true because he absolutely loves Cole. However things are going to get rough. There was plenty of good moments with Cole and gaben here Angel and Dane as well. So I'm still not happy with Max and Horatio. That and the whole Quentin deal is the reason I knocked off one star.
I really like this saga, and this book is a nice explanation of everything in the previous book. I`m running to read the next one. Amazing and totally recommendable for a cozy afternoon with a cup of coffee with soy milk.
CJ, you don't disappoint! I am an addict when it comes to your Phoenix Club series. I have loved each and every single one of the men from the club. The Gabriel trilogy looks to be an intense roller coaster of emotional traumas from not only Gabe, but Ricky and Max too (although I am happy to see that we are FINALLY getting to read about Max in the next trilogy).
I started reading book one in the trilogy late last night and I finished it as soon as I woke up. There is such a truckload of shit about to hit the proverbial fan and CJ is taking us all along for the ride. Hey, we all know that Gabe will get his happily ever after. Right? I sure as Hell hope so and I am so excited to read the second book. Any new releases by CJ, I automatically download them and get right in there with the reading thing. I love this woman's work! Such an awesome and amazing author to have stumbled on.
I am not going to give away any spoilers. I will say this fellow readers ... Sit down, buckle up and enjoy the ride!!!
I know Horatio and Max's secret... well I'm guessing but what I think is the ONLY reason they feel they can't be together that I can think of even though its killing them to be apart... anyway before we get into that we have to finish with Gabriel which is driving me crazy.
You would think that by now all the men would know there is NOTHING they can't solve or get through together... after dealing with someone being rape, murdered, blackmailed, abused, put in prison, sold... there is nothing they couldn't get though just by being there for each other... so Gabriel not telling Cole what is going on is, I'm sorry just STUPID... especially when his life can be in danger as well... off to read next book to see what stupid move Gabriel does now.
OMG I had so many freaking up and down emotions reading this book I now have a headache. I swear to god I wanted to scream at Max and Horatio. I mean what the fuck already, I want to know what the hell could be so freaking bad that they can't get back together when they obviously love each other with all their hearts, UGH! And Max and bartender, NOOOOOOO!!!! My heart is literally breaking for them. And Gabe you are a fucking asshole, Cole loves you so much that you should understand that he will stand by you through anything, but you aren't even giving him a chance.
You know .. This series started out really good! I was hooked from the very first one but I'm kinda tired of the same old story line with just a different name .. ): it's oohmygod I like you .. Ooh noo something horrible is keeping us apart and then the last chapter of the last book it's I love you .. Let's be together forever!! Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I don't like them cause I do .. But maybe I just don't need to read them all in one go ..
Yet again another emotional rollercoaster !! As with all the other books so far there's more than one story happening in each book but predominantly we are getting Gabe and Cole's story. Already i can feel this is going to be a hard one to read as i think Gabe and Cole are such a cute couple together as they've been the one constant couple throughout the series and also the strong ones too. But are they strong enough to make it through whatever is Quint has planned ??
Gabriel is having a blast with his work and enjoying Coles company then someone enters the club and his world is taking in an direction he's ran from.
Will Gabriel survive his journey and with starting a relationship with Cole will he be able to hide what's happening and as he's the soul of the club will everyone stand by and see him fall.
Loved this one as Gabriel is always there with is cheeky comments and has me laughing loads. Enjoyed this one.
Love this series so much. I think Max and Horatio are going to b the death of me though. All the other boys stories are bad enough but 20yrs apart has got to b so bad!!! Gabe's story hasnt really been mentioned yet just that he is thinking he is going to lose Cole. Tissues are being got ready for book 2.
Things can never be easy for the Phoenix men, I mean never. What is going on with Gab this is not going to be good. OMG when well Max and Horatio have there HEA, They break my heart with each new book. On to my next heartbreak.
