Breaking free series book 1 by C.S Court
This is a good book. Fast paced and full of twists and turns. I found the characters diverse, they had a depth that you don't always find in books. The layout was interesting, we had the original back story of how Connie had been living her life for the last 10 years, and how the only thing that gave her strength to carry on from day to day was her two lovely children. The book starts on a typical school day. Connie is trying to get the children ready, do lunches, nip to the shops to get essentials and do all of this, singlehandedly with two small children and a racing clock.
Connie is a great mum, she adores her children more than life itself and would do anything for them. She has a select few friends that she shares snippets of her life with but will never be able to open up and trust anyone totally.
Lottie is Connies best friend and she's the only person who Connie trusts entirely. She's a bubbly, fun loving friend who, on the outside is a total flirt and a bit of a joker, but in the inside, a warm and loving friend that just wants the best for her best friend, and will do anything she can to make that happen for her.
Dan is a controlling man, who would sooner smack his wife around than iron his own shirt! Everything that he says to his wife is controlling and mean. He had no tolerance forbid children and if they make even the slightest noise, he punishes them verbally and throws away any offending 'loud' toys.
Hunter is a businessman that has been burnt in the past. He likes the finer things in life, but having lived a quieter life as a child with not mug money, he appreciates the fact that money shouldn't change you, and he's looking for someone who feels the same way. After a chance meeting in a bar, hunter and Connie discover a deep connection that neither of them can explain. Their chance encounter is cut short and they desperately try to hold into the few hours of time the managed to spend together, before everything turns sour.
I liked this story, however I thought the plot moved too quickly at times. The story lines are sometimes a little haphazard and you have to skip back a few pages to see what you just read, and refresh yourself on where you are or what characters are speaking. There are a lot of twists that you don't see coming, so it's definitely one to stick with. I'll be reading the next one in the series soon, and as this one ended in a killer cliffhanger, I'll need to get stuck in to see what happens next xxx
