I can sense you by me. All you have to do is pick me up to give me life. I am here to listen. The question is, are you?
I am bound to these pages with words unread. It is a journey through time of being forgotten. Will you condemn me to this fate?
My name is Adam and it will be my pleasure to be here for you. Turn through my pages to give my life meaning. Make my life worth something. All I need is you and only you.
The late Benjamin Daniels had a love for this story, the character and his readers. I was fortunate enough to be able to talk to him about this story. His concept was to save the lonely by creating someone that loved them. Adam was designed to make people feel like there was someone that needed them and depended on them. It was a beautiful concept from one of the kindest hearts and most creative minds of anyone that I've ever met. Though this story may be misunderstood by some, it could be the very thing one person is needing.
This was a most curious book. I've never read anything quite like it before. The narrator is the book itself, and it's addressing you, the reader. This means, of course, that the entire book is written in second person... which is a very difficult thing to do. I've never known any other author to attempt this kind of writing experiment, and succeed.
I'm not quite sure Mr. Daniels succeeds, but he comes close. The story is an interesting love letter from the book to the reader, and I think the premise is a good one, just not quite as well done as I would have liked. The narrative was extremely redundant, and often, thoughts go unfinished. I think the author was trying to convey the missing element of engagement when a reader puts down a book and comes back to it later... which makes sense... but I think it could have been done with fewer redundancy and holes. I'm not sure of the origin of the author, but in several passages, it seemed as if English was not the writer's first language. The book seemed loosely edited. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it did make the book a bit choppy to read.
I think, though, that it's a brave experiment; one that, honestly, I'm not ready to take on. And yet, I'm shelving this concept for later. Reading this book did give me some ideas about how I might craft a novel in second person. Perhaps some day. Certainly, Drake is noodling this around as a future project.
This wasn't an exceptional book, but it was an intriguing read; and as an author, an interesting approach to craft.
Wow! I'm not sure how to explain my feelings of why I loved this book so much. It's "deep". Very hard for me to write this review. Just read it for yourself and you will understand!
The story of Adam is a complicated one. His story is written soley for me. "Because you are the one who matters. You are the one who isn't written, you are the one who doesn't have a predestined outcome." Adams story starts off on an introduction to his world. We dont have much to compare when I tell him about my day. Our worlds are so different. He is a good listener, and we both admit to an immediate feeling of connection. Throughout the pages I am taken on a journey through his world and daily life. Towards the end I am left feeling like we grew apart. I come to realize it's because we have to have an ending to every story. I will forever love Adam.
Creepy but not in the good old fashioned chilling way.
This book from my pov is a brilliant production to showcase current trends on social media. Book boyfriends etc. personally I find the trend disconcerting but that apart Adam goes too far. Gets to be too pathetic towards the end and that simply adds to the creepy feeling this book held for me.
However the plot is unique and it might be more your cup of tea than mine. Even if the story does not appeal the unique plot alone is worth picking up a copy.
It started off great. I was connecting with Adam and there was a moment where I felt he embraced me and really listened. Then as I kept reading something happened. I wasn't connecting with Adam anymore. I felt bad for him but instead of making me feel that he was in love with me (the reader) he started to be depressed. The book just became depressive instead. Maybe the book just wasn't for me.
Oh Adam..... Well this was a very interesting read. The way it is written had me struggling to get my head around it to start with because it was completely unexpected and new. It wasn't long before I couldn't put my kindle down as I needed to see where Adam was going to take me and the story. I did miss Adams happy side a bit towards the end but it all makes sense once you finish the story. very well written and definitely worth reading :)
This is a very unique story. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I have not read anything like this before. Kudos to the author. This is a story where the character in the book falls in love with the reader. This is a must read. It will suck you in from the first page. So unique and such a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend this to everyone. This is a must must must read!!!!
This is the most amazing unique little story ever, it made me feel loved and truly wanted. Shame it is not in a print format maybe a little tiny pocket book that I can carry around with me now and always. It brought tears to my eyes and at one point I was shouting "It should'a been me"
