Senpai against kouhai... Somehow, not the best volume in the series, I fell asleep twice (might have been out of shere exhaustion, but still, I never fell asleep reading Hajime no Ippo before...)
HnI is a juggernaut in the “ain’t broke, don’t fix it” storytelling world. For obvious reasons, the fight camp is solid in this arc. Ippo struggles to make an enemy out of Naomichi, until he realizes that Naomichi isn’t the same old Geromichi he was at the KB Gym.
It’s a compelling storyline on both sides. Ippo has rid himself of his moral quandaries about whooping on Naomichi while recognizing himself in how Naomichi has pursued him. On the other side, Naomichi still idolizes Ippo and is terrified to fight him, but plays the heel to amp the fight up.
The fight itself is also good. Naomichi being more than Ippo expected is very predictable, but Ippo trying to beat the brakes off Naomichi early was a big surprise. The choreography and fight IQ is there, the gumption is there, and those beautiful two-page spreads are there to drive it all home.

Really love Hajime no ippo!! Easily my favorite sports manga/anime, it’s a lot more than just the boxing! Great character development and story outside the sports part!😁👌🥊🥊❤️
