It's the last day of school, and Greenleaf High School's bell is about to scream, “Summer!” The kids are ready to GO. Until Claire Vaughn, beloved school counselor, walks into Room 217 with a gun. Ten kids are who she wants—the rest can leave. Now it's a waiting game.
Claire Vaughn is a patient woman, an immortal woman with unusual powers, and proof that her kind can die; by choice, she's well on her way to dead. Claire has been walking the world for an eternity, hunting down others like her. And one of her tribe is right here in Greenleaf, in this building, wearing a friendly, helpful face.
Claire came to destroy her kin and prevent a crime, but her quarry is an immensely powerful man, and his hooks are buried deep in bones of this bucolic town. He's not letting go without a bloody fight—not now when he has a shot at creating a tragedy of horrifying and deeply personal proportions.
I always look forward to reading Alex A. King's books. I've read all of her series of books; the Women of Greece books, Kat Makris Greek Mafia, Greek Ghouls, Revenge Services and Penny Post Myth Agent, each book 5 stars in my opinion and I'm always looking forward to her next release. I just didn't care too much for this book. It didn't seem to be her style of writing. It's just my thoughts of the book, for all of her excellent books, there is bound to be one mediocre book. I'm still anxiously waiting for her next book.
This is not a book to read in stages. You will lose some of the plot. It is so cleverly written that I'm tempted to call it a psychological thriller. It does mess with your head. You have to pay close attention otherwise you lose some of the clues that are cleverly dropped all through the book.
I really hope there is a second book. It ended with a whisper of a promise.
