In Thirteen, Victoria Dean takes the listener on a journey through the multifaceted landscape of horror. This collection of thirteen short stories offers a tryst into the paranormal, the terrors of the mundane, and what the dark shadows may be hiding around every corner.
From the heart-pounding battle against a mad serial killer to an unseen evil terrorizing two best friends, and monsters that roam the night, Dean works to explore what fear is all about and what it means to overcome it.
Author Victoria Dean's collection of 13 short stories is an exploration of horror and the paranormal. Ranging from terrifying to creepy, Dean explores the monsters you can see and the ones who lurk out of sight. Dean brings fresh ideas to scare her readers, allowing them to reconsider the concept of fear. Dean does a great job building that feeling you get when you read horror - a combination of anxiety, fear, isolation, and terror. The atmosphere of each story creates a fantastic backdrop for the characters, allowing the unbelievable and unknown to take center stage.
I couldn’t put this book down! Each story was nail biting and terrifying. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It was packed with suspense, deeply disturbing, and chilling. Victoria Dean’s writing left me with a lasting sense of dread and wanting to sleep with the lights on! If you’re a fan of horror, suspense and/or thrillers, this is an absolute must read!
I listened to this on audiobook read by the author. She did really well. I really enjoyed the stories. If you are looking for some creepy stories, give this a try. I don't always enjoy all the stories in a collection, but this one I did.
