"The universe is like a river. The river keeps on flowing. It doesn't care whether you are happy or sad, good or bad; it just keeps flowing. Some people go down to the river and they cry. Some people go down to the river and they are happy, but the river doesn't care; it just keeps flowing. We can use it and enjoy it, or we can jump in and drown."
The author mainly pushes us to realize how important our thoughts are, and our 'self-talk' is in influencing our unconscious thoughts, which later influence our attitudes and our life. The most captivating idea for me was that everything that happens in our life, even if we feel like it is out of our control, is actually something we've allowed to happen, consciously or unconsciously.

Wonderful lines from "Beyond Positive Thinking": "The universe is like a river.
"Beyond Positive Thinking", as the name suggests goes beyond just positive thinking and emphasizes on self talk. What you think about yourself matters, it influences your attitude, actions and your life. The author urges to aim for happiness, abundance and health above everything else. He implores to change the world inside out, heal yourself first before healing the world.

This book really opens your eyes about seeing the truth about yourself and your life. I've read many other books on similar topics, but this one hit home. Now I get it. Excellent principles to guide your thinking and your choices, improve your relationships and happiness. My #1 self-help resource. I re-read this regularly to keep me on track.
The book brought me indeed some new ways of thinking, especially about setting a mindset. Wanting, desiring and having goals are ok, but that makes us live in the future, which does not exist. Neither does the past. Both are just borrowed realities from the now. If we force ourselves to change, for example, “I have to/must lose 10lbs”, we will never be really engaged and probably won’t achieve or the change won’t be permanent. What we need to do is believe in what we want us to become, and then become. I will be thinner.
Half of the book is some pseudo-spiritual crap about how the universe is knowledge and power, and together with us makes a whole, the total. And we are so deeply interconnected that when we believe in something, it happens. This mystic part annoyed me.
Another interesting insight is about how we set limitations to ourselves. We rely too much on previous knowledge and experiences because we are raised since a child to need acceptance and approval of others, so we need to verify within our knowledge what will work or not, what will other people think or not, is it difficult or not, am I like this or that, am I capable of this or not. Our conscious is responsible for sending information of our PERCEPTION (whether it’s true or not) to our subconscious, which just accept because it cannot differentiate between what’s real and what’s not. After that, our subconscious guides our future actions. That’s why we limit ourselves so much: I can’t draw, I can’t sing, I wasn’t able to do this before, so I’ll fail again... changing our beliefs by positive statements and thinking is key to putting this new information into our subconscious so that we eventually start acting towards our new belief (which should be what or who we want to be). It’s all a Self-Reinforcing Cycle: 1. I notice my performance at a task 2. I choose to evaluate myself in a certain way and send that to my subconscious 3. This self-talk reinforces either a positive or negative self-image of how I feel about myself 4. How I feel about myself forms a self-image, which is the regulating mechanism that controls how I perform next time
Also, whenever we face a problem we can’t solve, that’s because we just resort to previous knowledge. However, it is this same knowledge that generated this problem, so we need to stop worrying about the details and just start working on a solution, thinking creatively and differently. Every decision we make and every action we take is based on our level of awareness at any given point. In order to be all we can be, we must constantly work to change and expand our level of awareness, or our perception of reality. One of the faulty perceptions in most people’s beliefs is that “seeing is believing”, but the truth is, not being able to see it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Rather than waiting to see before believing, we must first set a goal for our reality to change. The reasons we don’t see opportunities or solutions isn’t because they aren’t there.
DON’T BASE YOUR GOALS ON WHAT YOU HAVE OR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE, BUT ON WHAT YOU WANT AND WHERE YOU ULTIMATELY WANT TO GO.
Also, the author warns us not to share too much of our plans, since our aliveness and enthusiasm makes other people’s deadness stand out and feel more real, that’s why they create a thousand problems and say it won’t work.
Take risks. Leave your comfort zone as most of what you want lies outside of it. What keeps you in your comfort zone are the constraints aforementioned. Start picturing yourself in different situations and feel well in them so you get used to it.
“We would rather be certain we are miserable than risk being happy and satisfied”
Like most personal development books, this one has a few platitudes that I could do without and it makes some bold claims I didn’t really agree with. That said, this was overall one of the best books of this genre I’ve read. Not sure how I came across it because it’s not very popular, but I highly recommend it and will definitely be rereading it eventually.
The book that gives you a complete insight about how to develop yourself and to think what's right instead of living with your own paradigms.
Thinking right is better than thinking about something else. Every chapter in your life has you to take action. It is not the hope or the universe that comes to your rescue, living in NOW is. Take action and universe will answer to all your problems. There is a higher self to support you.
A packed guide for emotions and to move on with life. This book is a clear insight into how we need to lead our lives to be strong and independent. This book is certainly more than one time readable. Every time you read, you get a new insight to follow your life on. The path toward your goal will become clearer and the purpose of life will be redefined.
Everyone has trouble staying positive from time to time. We all have trouble getting out of our ruts. This book is an excellent book to help you break those habits, to help you make new habits of staying positive. I have shared this book with a few friends that were really in a funk. After finishing this book, they were able to make adjustments and change their lives around. Even if you aren't in a rut, this is a good book to help you set priorities and achieve goals. Read it!
something to think about: "somewhere in a person's life, one has misused or misunderstood the law (cause & effect). it doesn't mean one is bad and not loving. it simply means through ignorance or misunderstadning that the person misused the law."
I'm not sure what to say, because when I read the book I was waiting for the formula. There is no formula, except a gradual change of the mind that brings you change in your success. The takeaways from this book: 1. Stop blaming others. 2. Believe before seeing. 3. Nothing on the outside can make you happy. 4. Enjoy today. 5. Everything is a choice. 6. Act on a deadline. 7. Setbacks are temporary. The author does well to stress on all of these points through the chapters, and it makes for very encouraging reading.
This is the second of four books I have on my shelf to read from daily. The book is more poorly written than anything I love. But this ideas in it will change your life.
Every success book has some version of this formula. They all have it because, face it, it works! This is the key to success. It's not easy. It's not quick. But it works. Try it!
It was a struggle it had some good points. He kinda references God in a round about way by saying you are connected to the universal creative mind. I think he said it like that to sell more books including those who are not Christen
I had a lot of conflict going on while reading it but got some nuggets from it.
A book following the lines of many others that speak about belief in yourself, optimistic thinking being the center of all the control you have over the world around you, and positive affirmations. I better alternative, at least in my opinion, is Psycho-Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz.
In this 30th anniversary edition, you will find that Dr. Anthony has combined “The Secret” with other esoteric philosophies for the mindset of positivity for achieving whatever it is, really, that your heart truly desires…"As a man thinketh…”
In this expanded issue, we find visualization techniques and step-by-step methods of clearing the mind to trust our own innate creativity in overcoming old beliefs and limitations. This issue is, in itself, an example of that. Originally published in 1988 by Berkley Publishing as “The Advanced Formula for Total Success,” the company discontinued printing. The good Dr., seeing it still had value, did a rewrite and brought it back under the current title.
It is pointed out that many of our mindsets and limitations stem from childhood training or exampling we saw in others. We are raised in what we cannot achieve rather than beliefs that say anything we desire is possible with enough belief, effort and breaks. If we have a new concept (to us—or others) or a “better mousetrap,” our minds try to limit what can happen. We need to learn to leave our comfort zones and take risks.
Dr. Anthony cautions sharing too much too early as others don’t have our vision and maybe are not moving in the same direction so they may thwart our efforts and ingenuity. Another key point was ambiguity. Too often, we generalize what we want without specificity, i.e., “I want to lose weight.” It is not specified how much and in what time frame and any methods that will be used to achieve our goals. His method employs “The Five R’s:” Relax, Recognize, Realize, Reason and Release with explanations on his version of how to use each.
Further along, he points out that worry is a choice. It equates powerlessness and that there is no way out. What we think is what we get…more worry of lack of success. His solution? Observation of your behavior leads to consciousness of the problem and its solution. All throughout the book are such suggestions to change “stinkin’ thinkin’” into something more productive as you work through his suggestive exercises.
This book offers a great tool for those of us stuck in our own way on our path(s) to greatness. “We would rather be certain we are miserable than risk being happy and satisfied”
If you’re looking for advice on how to take control of your life and become successful, this book isn’t for you. It’s based on delusional nonsense that has no basis in reality, evidence or critical thinking.
On the other hand, if you want to laugh at some of the absurdest new-age semi-religious fantasy ramblings ever, this book might just be for you after all. A word of warning though, your bulshit-o-meter might might suffer from severe integer overflow from time to time, but it might be worth the excruciating mental agony it inevitably inflicts on your mind. You might also be able to see past the insanity, as long as you’re high as a kite, dumb as a leaking bucket or as delusional as the writer. Either way, it’s not going to be an easy journey, so embark on it at your own peril.
Anyway, what’s specifically wrong with this book then? It’s based on the idea, that daydreaming causes things to happen and normal rules of causality don’t apply.
I received this book as a Christmas gift from my sister. It's about the Law of Attraction, so it repeated things I am already aware of, but it repeated them in a way that reinforced them very well. The whole time I was reading I kept texting my sister, telling her how much I LOVE this book. I will keep the book nearby to refer to. There probably are no more than half a dozen pages in the book that I haven't circled, underlined, or starred, and those are in the very beginning. I know this isn't much of a review, but I love this book so much I just can't help gushing about it. I hope, if you read it, you'll love it too.
i can never explain what this book is about , it s a life changing in so many ways and levels , it doesn t say that you have to do this or that to get what you want , it s all about you thinking for you and deciding for your own good . about the choice you have in creating the best life you can have , and not to blame yourself or others for your courant situation , it s simply how to be happy and have a joyful life . i really hope that every one in the world read this book , just to make the world less unhappy .
