First Time Josh & Dan

Rate this book
Josh and Dan have been best friends since grade school. Now Dan is getting married and Josh is to be his best man. When Dan confesses after his buck’s show that he’s getting cold feet, Josh – who can’t help feeling a little jealous of his friend – doesn’t understand why he wouldn’t want to marry the gorgeous Rachel Moore.

Everything becomes clear later after a few drinks. They share a kiss that leads to them having sex and Josh finds out the best friend he thought he knew so well is actually gay. He doesn’t know how to deal with this or his guilt when he has to face Dan’s fiancée and tell her what happened. Especially when he starts to develop his own feelings for Dan.

Dan is about to marry the gorgeous Rachel. Josh, his best friend, will be the best man in the wedding. Josh throws a buck's party (bachelor party for us Americans) the week before. Everyone else has a nice time, but Dan seems really down and doesn't seem to be as excited about the upcoming nuptials as he should be. After the guests leave, and it's just Dan and Josh, the reasons for that become clear. Dan has a secret and once it's revealed, neither his nor Josh's lives will ever be the same again.

Overall, a nice story. I'm not a fan of the GFY story line (by any means) but this author always seems to make it work. I liked Dan and Josh right off, so that's a big plus.

This is my second by this author. I look forward to reading more.

Not bad but I don't think Dan had as much of a problem with it as he made out to.

Josh and Dan's story is short but eventful and while there are ardent sex scenes, E M Rise is still able to convey the message that often an individual succumbs to their heart, rather than their head.
In this part of The First Time series Josh overcomes his fear, guilt and even disgust to admit his love for the person he least expected; his male best friend. Although the reader does not really have time to form a bond with the characters, E M Rose allows us to fully acknowledge the difficulty of their situation and the reason for their unconventional decisions. In doing so the author encourages us to care about Josh and Dan and the outcome of their liaison.
E M Rose challenges the majority of m/m fiction during this story with the relationship between 'straight' Josh and 'gay' Dan and the fact that platonic love can grow into romantic love, even when its means a change of sexuality.
I would have liked this story to be lengthened with a greater development of the characters, but it is an interesting read, particularly for fans of typical m/m romances.

Josh and Dan
is the second short story in the First Time Series. They are both stand alone books with completely different characters and stories. Their connection, as the author describes, is the, “moment, hot, sexy, males decide to cross the line into the world of man love.”

We quickly learn that Josh and Dan have been the best of friends for years. We do not see any of that and we are just in present day. The story moves fast, really fast. Dan sort of maneuvers the whole thing and after giving Josh the best blow job of his life, puts a condom on Josh, hands him lube, and says, “Rub some on your cock, stick it in my ass.” And just like that, I’ve-never-been interested-in-men-before-Josh does exactly that. There is alcohol involved and raging hangovers the next day, but the guys did not appear drunk on page.

I wavered on the rating because I liked it but I didn't. I thought it was a great compromise but I wished they had another way. So I'm wishy washy about it and went with a 3.
